i, too, remember Melanie. i remember coming home from Vietnam, still a boy, exhausted with the sorrow, the hopelessness of years i had not yet lived, weighing on my soul. No one understood the burden i carried for the acts of a humanity i had seen spiral into madness during the war. But then, there wuz music. The poetry of lyrics that still held hope --- even for me who seemed to have lost it somewhere in those dark jungles. iyam here, today, because i found just enough light in the music and words of poets like Melanie, to try one more day. "They" can only destroy you if you allow them to. i found that understanding via the deep diving music of late 60's, and the early 70's. --Thankx Melanie
Artists like Melanie kept me from putting up with the destructive absurdity of militarism and from ever being seduced by war and the foul odors of patriotic nationalism. I have always thanked God for folk music. Across the world folk music of all kinds has done more good than almost anything I can image.
I'm certain you're so happy you wrote this touching post to Melanie a week before she passed. I know this would have meant as much to her as she meant to you. It's real.
How good was Melanie???!! Beyond Excellent. I only regret I had lost touch with her music the last half century. This was my loss. Sad that it took her passing for me to rediscover her. The time just flew by. God bless her memory. What an incredible legacy she's left us. And she was part of my mother's musical legacy to me, because it was my mother who "discovered" her on WNEW FM in 1968. Beautiful people.
Once in awhile God slips into this world a real prophetess singer. Melanie was just that. Light a candle for peace and pray for another like her to come.
It warms my heart to read all of the beautiful and respectful comments. It makes me feel a part once again with people and love. We'll always be together in music. They cant take that away from us, it's in our heart and soul. 😊🎼🎶🎵✌️❤️
As a four year old I first heard Melanie singing "Ruby Tuesday" thanks to my older sister playing the single. Ever since Melanie's beautiful voice has been a source of bliss and comfort for me. Love you forever 💔💔💔😢
Melanie one of the great unsung heroes of the 70s but many peoples secret pleasure. Dad loved her and we played babe rainbow at his funeral. Thanks for the beautiful memories Melanie x
God made melanie safka that bit more special😎 Peace has come for a beautiful and talented songwriter who touched me so much and for that I thank her and her family😎
Melanie's talent is unique, and her childlike charisma assured her successful career. Gotta love a famous musician who (it seems) wanted to make a mark, rather than seeking stardom.
It warms me inside to see so many people feel the way I do about this fabulous performer. She might not be the biggest name, but certainly among the biggest talents. Sad for the loss, but glad for the opportunity to revisit the lady and her songs.
Getting over being sick and i see Sweet Lady Melanie has passed..Im remembering my childhood with her music..Play and Sing on Melanie..you will never be forgot..so many lives and hearts you touched 🎉❤😢
Bliss ... exactly the right word. I've spent recent days reminding myself of her music that I cherished in my youth. How many singer-songwriters can make you smile and weep at the same time, in every song? Who sang with so much depth, emotion, beauty, anger, love, power, courage? And with such a unique and uniquely lovable voice? Melanie, Gather Me; you are loved!
Oh so early. Started to cry when I read the news. One of the best voices of Pop / Folkmusic.. So deep, so clear, so true "Peace will come..." Rest in peace. Dear Melanie. Harald
I'm giving Melanie a huge hug ❤ My Sister listened to Candles in the Rain & her voice floated downstairs to me in the 1970's. Lovee you always Melanie , keep on singing , 1 day we will all be together 💜🐱🏴
Love Melanie❤️: been to a record store in Hamburg several times just to hear you sing in Carnagie Hall (didn't have the money to buy the record then) and then you came to give a concert in Hamburg- I was there. Thank you! I have followed you as you have followed me! Through time. You have given me so much and I am so thankful❤️ Two nights ago I had the pleasure dancing with you singing 'Blowing in the wind' while rains of bombs were falling around us-it was a dream, you and I were amidst the carnage- it was a dream. But you were there-with me. Thank you,Melanie❤️ Love, Thilo, former German, now Danish citizen: you are alive in my heart and soul. Love
Within that first song ("Close To It All") it's understandable why Melanie has maintained a most loyal and devoted fan base. Beautiful concert. Beautiful woman. Beautiful People.
Thank you for posting this concert. I never had the opportunity to see her live in concert, but if I did, I would sure have been there. I believe I have all of her CDs on my ITunes and I listen to them often. So sad that we lost her this year (2024) she is now with Peter. May she rest in peace and thanks for the music Melanie.
A good soul with an unbelievable natural talent.i especially remember Melanie fróm the 70s.fond memories from my youth when listening to this lady.r.i.p.
I was most fortunate to see Melanie in concert, in Perth, Australia in 1976. Just her, and her guitar, like above in the Sky Vibes video. I will never forget it, as it was so special, and she was so beautiful. RIP.
For 26 minutes and 45 seconds I was one of the 'people in the front row!' I loved it! Sky Vibes, this is one magnificent video! My deep appreciation for the journey back to see our dear Melanie in her youth and in her natural setting: as a brave, lone performer yearning to share her music and to be accepted! We not only accepted her, we embraced her ... and we have never wanted to let go...
1972 was the longest year ever, as two leap seconds were added during this 366-day year, an event which has not since been repeated; fortunately Melanie has repeated many times her ability to move people with her art.
So many beautiful and meaningful people have left us and moved on - we carry on living because we have to but with every passing we lose a little of who we once were, what we once felt, who we once were. When they have all gone what will be left for us - just the memories of better times blown away with the brown dead leaves in the dust of time by the cold harsh winds of death.
Goodbye Melanie I remeber loving your music even tho I was just a kid with older sisters who played all the greats! I loved every song you ever did you had an amazing voice it was like nothing any of us had ever heard back then The 60’s became the era of enlightenment in our country thanks to artists like Melanie
Find the location, grab a shovel, plant this time capsule for all future generations. Close to it all, nickel song, peace will come. Freeze this moment in time. I would love to visit. Best job ever Sky Vibes. Thank you muchly.
Already done Dave. Sign says "If humanity still exists 100 years from this day, 20th September 2018, please open, dust off your DVD player, insert disc, press play and prepare to be entertained and enlightened. Peace & Love"
That image is excellent and you got it off 50 year old video tape. The audio is great as well given Melanie's huge range in singing volume. Really prescient, like the swan song of the entire peace movement. Thank you!
I'm so glad I am enjoying this perfomance now. Truly a bliss. Year 2020. I was born in early 80s. We must be doing something right in our modern times when we treasure these beauties.
Peace will come, but not for Melanie and thanks for all the memories. Are you listening to the words of peace as the world erupts into chaos and war once again. Godbless Melanie. R.I.P.
sky vibes, the feelings of that time you mentioned did move on, at least for me, as i took them into the world around me. i realized early on that i couldn't necessarily change people, but i could change me and then perhaps others might come along. peace, love and understanding has been my direction ever since those times and often because of artists like Melanie. i can testify that in me it is alive and well and in all my interactions outside of my self. love you, mean it! peace!
You were so loved Melanie. I'm Australian & one of our hip hop bands... the HILLTOP HOODS...got you to sing on their version of PEOPLE IN THE FRONT ROW... it's called THE NOSEBLEED SECTION. It's a tribute to your talent as a musician & a song writer. I knew it was your voice clear & true... the first time I heard it. You'll be missed very much. R.I.P. dear Melanie. KAZ from NSW AUSTRALIA xx
I remember seeing her on "Happening '70" one Saturday on Channel 0, (now 10) singing Ruby Tuesday on our black & white TV. 10 years old and I loved her singing, her everything, it was beautiful. Then later I heard her sing "Lay down, Candles in the Rain", I was smitten. We are running out of beautiful people in this century. If there is a Heaven, Melanie is there.
Absolutely love Melanie, from first hearing her in 1970. My friends and I would meet in an evening and play records; these would be predominantly prog rock (Wishbone Ash, Yes, ELP etc). We would each take a couple of LPs....they would NEVER play any of mine because I wanted them to hear other great singers like Melanie, Peter Hammill (VDGG) and too many to mention, ......boy, did they miss out. I lost touch with Melanie's music in the mid 70s when I got married, didn't buy much music and career etc got in the way. Now discovering her again. Not heard much of Miley Cyrus's music but the video of them duetting Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma is superb.
Thank you so much for posting this, it really is bliss It is the most moving collection of Melanie’s songs I’ve heard. Her lyrics and her singing is so original so timeless so quirky so individual, it is a blessing. I feel enriched, I feel more human listening to
I've been listening to her music/her words since the news if her passing. Such a beautiful soul - sweet face, sweet voice. Boy, could she belt out the tunes when she chose. Peace
As a 15 year old who had just started writing songs (I still do) I fell head over heels with both Melanie and her songs. I remember this concert very well and so many other wonderful concerts from that marvellous period of the singer songwriter. As for her "Hippy " message, I am in full agreement with Robin Williamson's look back at that period in his song "Sands and the Glass": I think we were duped But I don't forget Things that were true I believe them yet I've seen a new day Beyond the sad sunset It looks so fine Let it shine in the end Let it shine
Just heard of Melanie's death. She meant so much to me, and her words are still so relevant today. She really was one of the beautiful people.
I'm in tears
Member of her channel, got the updates.. shocked and sad, such a loss
Me too, just tonight I heard. She meant a lot to me.
I felt I was Melanie's untalented twin sister when I was young & had literally no one. 😢
i, too, remember Melanie. i remember coming home from Vietnam, still a boy, exhausted with the sorrow, the hopelessness of years i had not yet lived, weighing on my soul. No one understood the burden i carried for the acts of a humanity i had seen spiral into madness during the war.

The earth lost a gentle soul today. 🖤

Beautiful Melanie RIP. It was so sad to hear of your leaving this week. Thank you for the beautiful music.
So many wonderful songs, but with Beautiful People she defined an era! The message is so simple, yet so profound.

What a unique and compelling songstress and musician. Thank you for sharing this superb quality recording with the rest of us....
The voice, the artist, the poet, the soul that is Melanie dissolves whatever it is that separates me from the rest humanity.
Still touching and beautiful performance. Bye, Melanie.
I'm giving Melanie a huge hug ❤ My Sister listened to Candles in the Rain & her voice floated downstairs to me in the 1970's.

Thank you for the upload. Melanie was something special. 🇬🇧👍
"Someone Special"
Definitely deserves a place in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame but never was nominated!
Whoever decides on these issues misjudged on this one big time!
She gave us the message of LOVE ❤
Wow and thanks. Am I the only one who 'enjoys' the sound of those nylon strings?.
RIP amazing - wonderful singer - will never forget her.

If there is a God (I've yet to see an ouce of proof) he is happy to a have MELANIE singing to him!
In those 26 minutes in January 1972, Melanie came into my life and never left.
1972 was the longest year ever, as two leap seconds were added during this 366-day year, an event which has not since been repeated; fortunately Melanie has repeated many times her ability to move people with her art.

She is singing with the angels
I hope they're willing to sing back-up.
We Hold On Still to Hope for Peace, somehow...
Burning Fuel and Waging War, but Still there's Hope...
Melanie Leads Us Onward...
There's Still Time!
In a world full of people spouting hate she was and is a beacon of light

As for her "Hippy " message, I am in full agreement with Robin Williamson's look back at that period in his song "Sands and the Glass":
I think we were duped
But I don't forget
Things that were true
I believe them yet
I've seen a new day
Beyond the sad sunset
It looks so fine
Let it shine in the end
Let it shine
Thanks a million for posting this loving piece of beautiful songs. Sad I lost track of her until the devastating news of her death.
Melanie is Brilliant
Agreed!
