I like making these :)
please do keep making these :) thanks for the epic content :)
U got sm stuning skills man😍
Peter McKinnon nonfication squad where you at?
Peter McKinnon thank u for making videos it helps allot I turned 12 yesterday and I asked for a canon eos 200d and I am so happy I got it and thanks to u I now know how to take amazing photos. I was also wondering how you take photos in log settings so it’s easier to colour grade
My heart falls every time you leave the camera how did u do it ?
Need camera basics 3! ❤
Explain Exposure,
Need part 3! Spell Exopsure!
*exposure
look at this ua-cam.com/video/ixRKeQMa7Nc/v-deo.html
I’ll explain EXOPSURE ...... it’s when there’s a lot of light inside your brain but you can’t enlighten the equipment . Therefore you need an exopsure which is a product available online but only between the hours of 6am and 5pm usually people want to buy it but sometimes you can’t buy light because the Time is not right . Sometimes it’s even FREE of cost!! Maybe wake up when you feel like sleeping . I love teaching exopsure I learnt it in oxford University back in Texas 🙄
@@jadoon702 I'm talking about the exposure in camera
I've learned a lot from your videos. The only thing preventing me from getting into photography is buying a camera. 😂😂😂
Same too. Used to have a camera back then. Canon or something. Never get to learn, cause I was forced to take pictures of my mom while traveling without learning the basics. Now I had those memories I can remember, the angles my mom want me to take pictures are too much😂
@@stemberkudang5110 I feel you brother
Camera is the cheapest part.
@@jamielynch2186 Lens is the expensive part
Ovicom plenty of cheap lenses out there, I’ve bought 2/3 and I’ve switched back to my kit lens, you don’t need to get lenses from the get go.
Not gonna lie I had to rewind the intro 😂
Devin Vasquez same wondering how he did it
Two-person job
I think he had a tri pod and he just picked it up there might have also been 2 people.
Ben Feldman Not a tripod. You can see handheld camera movement when he’s not holding it.
@@rafaelpereira1074 He could use fake camera movement in post. I think it was a 2 person job. Matti Haapoja shooting in this office too, so I think he helped him a little bit with intro
Peter, can you do a video on editing audio, needs to be extra crispy right? But how?
Yeah! Ive been gathering a few things with regards to audio actually, so I am about due for that! Thanks!!

@@PeterMcKinnon Great! You're the sole reason I'm into photography, such an inspiration. Keep up making great videos, they make my day!
Would love to see this as well!
Amazing videos, I truly admire the shots and creativity
‘Do I take the battery out?’ 🤣🤣🤣
dead😂😂😂😂😂😂
When he said that I'm like... YUP! That's me! LOL
Should I buy another camera
@@adriansalinas7026 thats me 🤣🤣. I returned the camera and swap with another camera

Its 2020
A business from scratch 2020 now
I've tried watching so many other youtuber's explain the camera basics and I have to say you have the best way of explaining how to use a camera. Your videos are very entertaining to watch in a way that makes it fun to use my camera. Best photographer on youtube is Peter McKinnon... By far.
Him and David manning
WOWWWWW!!!! First 30 seconds are amazing!! I try to understand how you do it.....small details make the difference!
he was carrying the camera already attached to a tripod and applied a fake camera movement right after he put it down
Matti obv
Maybe a monopod? Though it could be matti...
it does look like fake camera movement, i feel like you're on to something here
Matti is walking behind him at the first handoff and just grabs the camera as peter continues to his desk (or matti could have been holding it the whole time), then as Peter takes the camera back and rotates 180°, Matti has to move quickly to stay behind the camera, grabbing it again allowing Peter to free his hands. Very nicely done! Peter/Matti did you get it in one take? Would love to see bloopers in some of your videos.
Man imagine having Peter McKinnon as the photographer at your wedding... 🔥🔥
I would pin that comment 😍
And obviously think of getting married if he is da photographer 😊

"maybe you photograph kids"
FBI: intetesting....
theholyfish123 the FBI has so many questions watching any photography video, he keeps talking about shooting people
joe tomato sauce exactly
Would've been really funny if he said "maybe you shoot kids"
The first time I touched a professional camera was 3 days ago when I picked up a Canon Rebel T6 from my college's media center. The last three days have been filled with play and watching your Basics videos. Because of your videos, I feel extremely confident that I'm having a photo shoot for a project today! Thank you so much Peter.
Uh that is FAR FROM a professional camera. Decent prosumer but not pro my friend.
silbay as far as I know, it’s not a phone. it’s professional to me. I don’t really care what labels you slap on it
That intro shot messed me up. I LOVE how creative you are with two people!
I know right...I'm always blown away by the level of creativity.
I had to go back and look, “What just happened there?”
me too!!!
i had to rewind few times and see what actually happened lol
@@rolo_061 I still don't know what happened LOL
The post effects in this video are phenomenal. Incredibly smooth and seamless in your movement, and paired with the sound design from this video, it might be one of my favorite tutorials you've ever made. Super entertaining. :)
Night photography, Fireworks, basic settings for shooting in the conditions - also difference between low light and other light settings and how to adjust to these
Man, really love the small details, bringing up the camera settings in text and the tracking and the sound and shutter effects. All just works perfectly together and makes the video even more captivating than it already is !
The symbol for the location of the sensor = mind blown
Spondoolie you have the best name I’ve seen on UA-cam 👏👏
Same, never knew about it
i thought the sensor was kinda where the mirror is
It's not physically where the sensor is, the symbol represents which depth within the camera body it's located. The sensor is of course physically located behind the mirror or lens but at the depth indicated by the symbol.
thanks. should have expected that, makes a lot more sense
Those who had to learn it from scratch are able to teach it from scratch. Super clutch to have this all in a beginner friendly form, no matter where you're at. You're the man.
Your Peeps so true. Helped me out a lot. 😉
"super clutch" - hahaha. WAT.
“Rooms aren’t gonna run away from you”
You don’t know that
Has any the four of you seen my bank?
I really love back-button focusing, super versatile for events, weddings and portraits - AND you can use it in both ai focus and ai servo modes.
Those little screen/sound effects like at 2:20 were amazing.
I would like to hear about flashes, off camera flashes, and accessories to get the best light indoors
Another amazingly awesome tutorial - I would watch these just for the entertainment value - all the incredible information you pass on is like super fudge icing on top. Can't wait until we see Basics 3 - Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge and experience - greatly appreciated.
Dude! You’re so great at explaining this stuff! I really appreciate it.
The intro choreography was sleek! Those "under-the-rug" techniques are gold! Keep em coming!
Pete please teach us about metering modes. I've always seen the options on my 77d but never known which is best for certain situations. Thanks!!
Bump
Please
I too have 77d and I too have no idea whats metering modes.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Metering modes are peculiar oddities #tautology
This!!
I'm so grateful for these videos. There's a lot of videos out there explaining camera and photography basics. But a video made by a photographer that you really admire, whos personality and style you're already somewhat familiar with and enjoy, makes all of these concepts not only easier to understand but more engaging as well. I wouldn't put myself in the complete beginner column but I definitely have a lot to learn and there has been a wealth of knowledge in both of these videos.
You're officially my photography professor. Thank you for the uploads. Learning a lot
Pete I had to stop watching mid video to tell you that the motion graphics/ after effects in this are just INSANE! So good! I’ve watched (99% sure) every video of yours on UA-cam; it’s so freaking cool to see how you’ve implemented more and more elements. You my sir, are a king!
Right man, those were some amazing after effects. BTW u have any idea how he did those? I am very new to video editing so just curious..
After effect, Motion tracking with a null object, you attach an object/composition/Shape layer to the null in 3D, done :)
Peter is very good at what he does and I love those efects in the tracking that he does, it is right on the money 💰
Oishik Goswami Peter did a tutorial about it bud. After Effects Tutorial , check it out
I think Peter got an editor now, so that might be him doing theses, what I like the most is the used of sound with it, it's pretty well done!
Amazing, the very first video actually got me into photography. Never learnt so much from a single video. Now I even have my own channel because of you, so thanks for being such a great help. Excited to watch this!!
That’s amazing!
Subscribed you man 😉
Subbed!!! amazing content
Jesus Christ the perfect Son of God lived a perfect life and died as a sacrifice to pay for your sin which the penalty of sin is death and he rose from the grave and conquered death and offers salvation and Paradise in heaven if you repent of your sin. believe in him and put your faith and hope in him, if you do this you will be given the Holy Spirit which is the literal precance of God to help and guide you!
Subbed~your vids are awesome!!!
Hey man, just wanted to reach out and say thank you! I am just starting out with my Cannon T7i and I have learned a ton from your videos. You have a wealth of knowledge and your videos are packed with new things for me to try and think about. I have some experience in editing but have never gotten behind the camera myself until recently. I turned 30 this year and money was always an issue I felt that kept me away from my new found obsession. Through your content you inspired me to just take the plunge and not be scared to get out there and start taking shots. I appreciate the work you do and for the community. You have DEFINITELY gained another subscriber and I look forward to future content!
Just found your channel, thank you so so much for an informative, genuinely helpful video. Your explanations are extremely clear and also creative. Starting to love your channel! Keep up the good work!
37 seconds in and was sold on the sick camera moves
HOLY BLEEP this is amazing my videos are the greatest on UA-cam lol how did this happen my dear friend Erik T
I thought I was trippin. I was hoping I wasn’t the only one that caught that lol.
It is so cool how much more creative you can be since you got an editor. You guys have been taking those after effects to the next level. Whomever you got compliments your skills perfect. Keep it up man!
I'm actually curious who it is, as I saw a video from a while back that he was going to hire someone via a contest but I couldn't find the follow up video. 😊
@@dianalupu84 he never announced it. I guess he didn't like all the hate Matti got for who he picked or rather didn't pick.
Is nobody going to appreciate that first badass minute of the video....where the camera is literally placed in mid air.....in continuous shot....hot DAMNN.!!
Dude, I love your videos! You inspired me to buy my first SLR-camera just a couple days agoo.
Thank you for being an inspiration & for all the tips/tricks!
Peter's life motto: When you feel depresso have some espresso.
That intro blew my mind
i'm so confused
@@MarkReddington another dude behind the camera. It ain't rocket science, brah.
or he managed to make the camera float
I had to rewatch it like 5 times. How in the world! Is he using a tripod that he’s carrying around and then introducing shake in post when it’s standing still on the floor? I guess I’ll just have to keep watching.
This has to be a two-dude setup
I did a whole portrait photoshoot yesterday on manual focus. A good way I learned how to use it was using the screen instead of looking through the viewfinder. I would look at the screen find my subject (person's face) click on the zoom-in button (on the top corner of the camera which is also what you use to find focus point for autofocus) find where my subject is and move the focus on the lens until my subject looked sharp then I would shoot the picture.
i love all of your tutorials, they are BY FAR THE BEST i've come across.
please please do more! i'd love to watch a series where you talk about and explain all the other camera settings!!
various times i just want to give up because no matter how hard i tried, how much effort i put into making my videos.. how patient i had been.. no one seems to be interested... but everytime i watch your videos..they somehow were able to magically pull me back and tell me to try again..I just hope i can keep on getting better and someone will finally notice it and show my channel some love...

Hey Peter! Id love to see some beginners tutorials for videography. Would you be open to filming something like that? 🤗
Dude, you making these episodes are SUPER HELPFUL and AMAZING. I would love to see more of these "BASICS" video. LOVE YOUR WORK BRO!!!!
Hey thank you so much! I started out myself as an inked model and have friends who are photographers who have been helping me but WOW this is great info you have! I hope to have something to show for it! Thanks so much Peter!
You have actually helped me so much in my first year of filmmaking. Thanks Peter!
SO happy to hear that! Thank you!
Extra details durings editing videos makes your videos extra crispy and makes us pumpeeeeeeed up.
Even extra sounds makes a big difference.
This was so helpful man! I realized I have been shooting on manual for a while and I was always wondering why never autofocused lol. Keep up the fantastic work.
Need camera basic 3, AND love your premiere pro tips and tricks!
These motion graphics are so on point! Gotta appreciate it
Keep this videos coming please! They are so helpful and I thank you for your time. Love your channel!!!
Peter, you have a gift to explain complex topics and making them easy to understand. Thank you
Loved the video, thanks Peter for always giving the best info in the best way possible. You make learning fun! Not everyone learns the same way, and you always manage to hit the nail on the head for me! Thanks man, much appreciated! Keep em coming!
Peter! Do a frame rate video and when to use certain rate!
Higher for more action, lower for less action.
Did you mean shutterspeed?
Frame rate. Like for Tv or cinematic look, they typically shoot in 24 fps.
Yes, I think he has talked about it before, maybe discretely in a video at some point.
Yes!
That motion tracking though! Also that intro was amazing. Messed with my mind even tho I knew what was going on after the fact :D
Super job of explaining... new at this, but learning so much from you! Keep the videos coming!
Thank you sooo much for the explanation, this is my first time watching your videos cause I’m planing to get a mirrorless to mark my life with some pics and videos. And your videos for the basics are exactly what I need right now. Btw if you coffee is cold you can heat it up in the microwave...
I love your videos so much! They help me ALOT with photography!
The sound effects you're using are so satifying to hear, lol
I love how clear and concise your explanations are
Oh Man! that effort that you make for this video is tremendous
thank you for sharing it with us Pete, Appreciate it!
BRO OMG I LOVED THE FIRST LITTLE PART WHERE YOU MADE THE CAMERA FLOAT :))))
Wyatt Kramer yeah that was some tricky camera voodoo
Yeah that was MAD!
More videos like this please!!! I’m a beginner!
I really like the way you teach man, you've been helping me out a lot in terms of building my own brand and learning new skills. Great job!!
I love these videos so much! I'm learning so much from your channel, Peter! I love hearing that you use mainly autofocus. As a total noob, I was questioning if manual was something that you wanted to master to be a pro. Thanks so much ^____^.
Ohh that after effects 3d tracking magic
I love experimenting this..
Love your videos....
I use manual focus all the time, because my camera has focus peaking, which makes it a lot easier. You cant really miss focus with that.
What is focus peaking?
The area in focus will appear with a specific color on your LCD screen and/or your electronic viewfinder :)
@@kamykasedu13 Exactly.
*anyone with a more serious glasses prescription* "challenge accepted. Ever since I had to start wearing glasses manual focus is the bane of my existence. I have a fear of manual focus 😂 maybe focus peaking on a full sensor sony. Maaaaybe.
One of the most helpful videos I’ve seen, im new to photography but i want to get familiar with everything first and you did a good job explaining.
thanks for making these videos! Very helpful!
"rooms aren't going to run away from you" 😂😂
I can know literally everything you're about to say on a subject but sit there and watch the whole video anyway...
That is charisma my friend!
These videos are addictive
I am new to photography and I have found your basics videos to be the best that I have watched! Thank you so much!!
These videos are great and are easy to follow. Thank you! More basics videos like this would be awesome.
When using manual focus, I use manual mode 90% of the time. I would recommend using the digital zoom in Live View then adjust the focus ring. Sometimes you may even get a sharper image. Hope this helps!
Love this! Huge help Pete! Much appreciated buddy!
Thank you for contents like this it's really helpful!
I stopped using manual focus a long time ago. Too many photos uploaded to lightroom, that I THOUGHT were focused, but to my unpleasant surprise, were not in focus. I cant trust my eyes!! Great video!! Thanks for explaining white balance in english! And the different focus methods! -Gil
how many people works on those videos??? I mean.... that editing and stuff... Amazing
Just him I think
I don´t need these tips anymore but I watch this video anyway just because your videos are AMAZING - just DOPE!
I'm still an amateur photographer but all my understandings on photography and my cameras I taught myself with trial and error and playing around with stuff. However that can only get me so far in A standard way of taking photographs and thanks to you I am able to learn more without using a text book. Thankyou.
truly invaluable! keep up the amazing work peter, you inspire me every day
Hey peter, recently my dad gave me one of his hands down camera sigma sd14 because I took an interest in photography recently. I’m quite new to this whole photography thing so should I use the camera to start or use another different camera because someone told me that it’s hard to use it.(anyone are free to give suggestions) I’m open to any advice or tips. Thanks and sorry for the long question. 😄😄
What I do using manual focus that helps a lot is using your zoom button and clicking it once or twice (depending how far the subject it) adjust the focus and then press zoom out and it’s in focus! Takes two seconds and is a quick way to make sure what you’re focusing on in in focus :)
I have my GH4 set up so that it zooms in automatically when I focus manually 👍
Gustav Holmström that is a really cool feature, I didn’t know they did that!
I do this too, but it really only works on a tripod or a mirrorless that has an evf you can zoom.
I was about to say this
almost all mirrorless cameras have Focus magnification and focus peaking the idea is you target focus mag once or twice depending on how critical you need to focus, peaking works by adding colored pixels in the focus area so you know exactly where you are. Im only manual focusing, to be more specific I don't own any autofocus lenses and once i used it i did not like it , i felt I was shooting with a smartphone ,there is a special thing about manual focusing there is a slowed down process you compose plan your shot and the final outcome is so much more rewarding .
Thank you so much for making this! This was so helpful 😊
After years of watching you and you teaching me about video I am now rewatching videos because I want to learn more about photography! Damn I miss this old studio, Nostalgia!
Would like to see landscape compositions techniques for the next topic.
Night photography, galaxy photography and long exposed waterfalls are something that comes to my mind as well.
Bumpy Stories YES NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY!!!
can we just take a second to appreciate that intro
I love your videos, they are so inspirational :D Thank you for all your advices!
You are a master of explaining these 2 subjects! Thank you!
*Those edits are just* 😍
Can you speak on camera operating modes, i.e. shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, etc.?
I just asked the same thing lol
Watch his Camera Basics part 1 video. He explains shutter speed and aperture in that video. If you understand what those mean, then shutter priority mode means that you can set the shutter speed yourself and the camera will automatically set all the other settings for you to give you a well-exposed image. Aperture priority works the same way. You set the aperture and the camera figures out the rest. Manual mode means you are in control of everything and nothing is left automatic for the camera to figure out for you. Make sense?
ok cool
I love these kind of videos. You are super easy to connect with through this videos and you explain things in such a way that is easy to relate to. I also get a little laugh in as well. Thank you for doing these and helping me with my new craft.
I didn’t realise how much I needed this, thanks so much dude!! I thought manual meant manually focusing and have been terrified to do it but I think I’m finally ready!!
I started using manual focus on my phone because of focus peaking, makes life *much more* easier
If manual mode: check out "Focus peaking" on your Digital Camera while in Manual mode.
Really helped me get it into focus. specifically on my Sony A6300
Same, it’s not perfect but it helps a lot on my G7
Great refresher for someone getting back into photography after years. Thanks bro!
Love your style of explaining so much. I just got my first DSLR from la familia so I can shoot on my adventures. I'm going to the Arctic, Africa, France and around Scotland in the upcoming months so I chose a weather-sealed kit, which is all nice and lovely, but... how am I gonna learn the basics of shooting with a DSLR? And then I found your videos. What makes them even better is that you're really explaining the details, but at the same time, you also make the viewer feel good about it, it doesn't feel like an expert on their high horse talking to a beginner at all. Great job, got a new subscriber!
