Finally! My friends say they are fine with watching a board game review as long as it’s accessible and funny, and I’ve been looking for a video like that on this game to see if they like the sound of it. My prayers have been answered! Thanks SU&SD!
@Neil N I certainly would! In the others the theme falls flat, or is cold; nothing holds me there. Altiplano is most certainly warm and fuzzy! (In the best non-theological sense, of course). It's fun.
I really appreciate that many of your videos show game set-up in fast motion. It's a really nice touch and gives a sense of what a first time buyer should expect.
It's shocking to me that the biggest gripe with the game was length. We've played with max players multiple times and I think it moves at a great pace. I'm with you. I don't know why I love it, and I can't say it's better than similar games I've played. But I sort of just love it. A weird feeling I don't have for many other games. I honestly think it is because it flows so well.
I use cheap plastic food containers for each type of good. Makes set up and tear down really fast. These are the small soy sauce containers. And they all fit in the box.
Altiplano is great. Especially when you put on some thematic music. Game feels like it finishes too fast for my girlfriend and I, so we've added on extra turns before. It may take time but it just flows smoothly that it doesn't ever feel like a slog. It's one of her top couple games. We don't even have Traveler yet.
Four hours? Never a game of Altiplano have gone that far here, we usually play in about 1:40, 2hs with 3 players. But if time is a problem as shown in the video just keep saying llama to add more time.
"It's a problem on Wednesday night when everyone needs to get home." Welp, my weekly game night is Wednesday and we start kinda late, so this game is right out. Oh well.
Rules section 4 paragraph 16 states that the repetition rule does not apply to words containing double letters, unless that word is contained within this rule.
Strange, I've found that this game isn't that slow and it's somehow a game that both new board gamers and seasoned gamers can enjoy. I often times have a hard time getting my play group to want to play root or spirit island and the like, but most of those players love altiplano
I love love love this game. I like the fact that you need one thing to get another and then with that thing you can get something else again. Some things are hard to get, which makes it challenging. And I always like games with bags to pull things out of, which means you've got a factor you can't control. Plus, you need to plan how and where you're going to walk or drive. There's so much going on in this game! Plus, it looks great. And it doesn't have one game board, it has different areas that will be in different places each time you play. The whole game has a trillion variations because of all these options, also to score points. IT'S AWESOME!
I made the mistake of trying to play this game for the first time at a very loud PAX East. After 45 minutes of setup, it was abandoned. Glad to see we made the right choice.
Orleans, if not for the setup, would be like a top 3 game for me...my wife LOVES Orleans....this...despite having llamas...just doesn't pique my interest...also F you Matt Lee's for insinuating Wiz War is anything but pure magic!
this is how I remember the difference - Sheepdog : Sheep :: Alpaca : Llamas I think they were bred to be meaner, tougher, llamas to protect other llamas
Here in Australia, alpacas are often used to guard for flocks of sheep in the field. They're less likely to get distracted and wander off or try to eat the sheep than an unsupervised dog would be and at least as vicious when foxes turn up.
It is interesting. Whereas I am ok playing Altiplano but I would rather play something more exciting, my friends and my wife love it! This was a good review and maybe would have prevented me from buying the game, to the disappointment of my friends. I might get the expansion if I see an offer sometime, if that brings a bit more of player interaction to the game (what I find lacking on the game too).
Guys, what a great review. Perfect delivery, great presentation and hilarious as always. Just had a thought... Possible to get Wil Wheaton as a guest?!!
I feel like if Quinns did not like it, it must be great. I was on the fence on this one but I think I am going to get it. Great review Matt keep breaking the Quinns.
As someone who has knitted an alpaca from handspun alaaca, with bags of unspun alpaca in the room behind me and friends who own alpacas and who knows far too much about all the different South American camelids, can I just say that I bloody loved that ending!
I played Altiplano once. I spent it texting another friend about how the best thing about the game was the first player token. Altiplano has the problem I find in a lot of worker placement games where someone created a really neat system and someone must have asked "Cool system, what's the game?" the creator stumbled back, thought about it and went "Uh....victory points!" As an aspect of a game Altiplano would be great, but as the entire game...I was pretty bored out of my mind. And yes, it does take forever. Still weirdly glad I played it?
Wiz-War is fun. I've always enjoyed every game of it, regardless of winning or losing. The rules highlight the theme, and the randomness calls for some creative play decisions. Altiplano looks like a boredom simulator. I believe that a lot of designers wrap their games in dull themes to give them intellectual street cred.
Matt miming Quinns while he gave the over saturated market speech was absolute gold!
Finally! My friends say they are fine with watching a board game review as long as it’s accessible and funny, and I’ve been looking for a video like that on this game to see if they like the sound of it. My prayers have been answered! Thanks SU&SD!
SU&SD picked me this is literally the best day ever
Best board game review channel on the interwebs! Every episode is entertaining regardless of the game on display.
The plot for the review was basically written as a device to allow you to sing "Llama Chameleon," wasn't it?
The all-star troll is real.
That payoff ending. LOL.
I love this review in the same way Matt loves this game.
I'm glad you see a glimmer of beauty in this game. I find it challenging and interesting. It is enough. It is enough.
@Neil N I certainly would! In the others the theme falls flat, or is cold; nothing holds me there. Altiplano is most certainly warm and fuzzy! (In the best non-theological sense, of course). It's fun.

This review was incredible and the smash mouth at the end completely got me!
It's shocking to me that the biggest gripe with the game was length. We've played with max players multiple times and I think it moves at a great pace. I'm with you. I don't know why I love it, and I can't say it's better than similar games I've played. But I sort of just love it. A weird feeling I don't have for many other games. One of the rare channels where the reviews are fun, informative and insightful. Great work guy's.
This video went some unexpected places
Oh my god that ending is the single best ending you've pulled ever. I think this even eclipses the Arkham Horror and Tash-Kalar review finishes.
Great video guys! Gotta say, after watching the Feast For Odin clip, I really miss Paul. I hope he is happy where ever he is.
That ending bit was utterly fabulous.
Not sure about the game itself, but the review is top notch. Llama llama llama!
Llama Llama I'll live forever!
Llama Llama Llama Llama...
🤷♂️Wasn't worth it, I'll take my chances.
I don't know why, but giving extra time for saying "llama" made me smile.
SUSD: The board game market is too saturated. It's our job to only review games we think are good enough
Also SUSD: Reviews the Fallout board game
Never stop being entertained by you guys. Even if I have no interest in the game I look forward to your Friday reviews and enjoy them all.
There is a designer-approved variant setup that makes the game much faster. You should always use it. (link added to reply)
do you have a link? :)
Dennis Olesen think it’s in the rules that come with The Traveller expansion
I use cheap plastic food containers for each type of good. Makes set up and tear down really fast. These are the small soy sauce containers. And they all fit in the box.
I didn't know how much I needed to hear a MIDI version of All Star 😂

The best channel on UA-cam/twitch....love you guys.
I deeply love this game.
I’ve also only played it twice because of the length. Root hits the table far more often for me
Careful you can damage games if they're hitting the table
Aw, man. I love root. And it's thanks to SU&SD that I heard of it =D
Four hours?

But if time is a problem as shown in the video just keep saying llama to add more time.
Careful. Too many llama refs will summon Jeff Minter. Need a whole nother colour grading for them jumpers.
When I saw the footage from the feast for Odin review I got really excited but also a bit sad
Thank you for the sheer joy of watching that.
"It's a problem on Wednesday night when everyone needs to get home."
Welp, my weekly game night is Wednesday and we start kinda late, so this game is right out. Oh well.
Long? Slow paced?
Altiplano is one of the fastest games we have! Depends on play style.
*Spoiler*
10/10 Alpaca not = to Llama Reveal at the end there! Was driving me wild during the video, very meta play, well done as always!
Genuinely one of your most entertaining reviews.
Classic Shut Up and Sit Down End of Video Midi Turnaround!!!
One of my favorite endings xD
As soon as Quinns said "You do know they're not llamas." I said out loud "What's an alpaca?!"
ua-cam.com/video/NcKRco2Zu0Y/v-deo.html this is all I could think of
2:45 rules goof: repeats "llama", but does not get penalized for repetition?
Rules section 4 paragraph 16 states that the repetition rule does not apply to words containing double letters, unless that word is contained within this rule.
This review is a masterpiece!
Strange, I've found that this game isn't that slow and it's somehow a game that both new board gamers and seasoned gamers can enjoy. I often times have a hard time getting my play group to want to play root or spirit island and the like, but most of those players love altiplano
The ending was brilliant!

IT'S AWESOME!
Been waiting for this one for a while, ever since Matt mentioned playing Altiplano on a livestream :D
That review is hilarious! lama lama lama!
Best video ending
I made the mistake of trying to play this game for the first time at a very loud PAX East. After 45 minutes of setup, it was abandoned. Glad to see we made the right choice.
I did not expect that ending
LLAMAS!!!!!!!!
Oh dear. Didn't watch to the end before commenting, did we ? It's fine. All fine. I'll just dock some time from your lifespan. ;)
But Have you ever seen a llama, kiss a llama, on a llama llama's llama, tastes of llama, on a llama, llama llama duck
ALPACA ALPACA ALPACA ALPACA ALPACA
Hey man, don't use Wiz-War as a dis; in what other game can you become a "Big Man"?
I've had that dumb intro jingle stuck in my head for weeks. Thanks a lot, Matt.
Can't say id buy this game but it's the best review vid I have seen in a long time!
Orleans, if not for the setup, would be like a top 3 game for me...my wife LOVES Orleans....this...despite having llamas...just doesn't pique my interest...also F you Matt Lee's for insinuating Wiz War is anything but pure magic!
You can’t just end the thing on the cliffhanger! I wanna know what an alpaca is!
Altiplano with Traveller exp. or Orléans with Trade & Intrigue exp. is better in your opinion?
This one's for Matt and his love of Don't Hug Me
"That's not enough time!"
this is how I remember the difference - Sheepdog : Sheep :: Alpaca : Llamas
I think they were bred to be meaner, tougher, llamas to protect other llamas

I agree, Altiplano has issues but I love it
_but what's the giant alpaca for????_
"We have royally taken the mickey out of games..." I'm going to need a British translator.
Taking the piss. Making jokes at the expense of other games basically.
Nice new experimentation of tone in your videos Matt and Quinns. What happened to the new editor position you guys are hiring for?
Intern? Hired

in my experience, the Traveler actually made the game faster.
Guys, what a great review. Perfect delivery, great presentation and hilarious as always.
Just had a thought... Possible to get Wil Wheaton as a guest?!!
I fear it'd turn into Quinns and Wil comparing tattoos and tattoo ideas.
OH GOD DAMN YOU FOR USING THAT SONG
I LOVE you guys!
Hilarious! Thanks again guys
I feel like if Quinns did not like it, it must be great. I was on the fence on this one but I think I am going to get it. Great review Matt keep breaking the Quinns.
Luuurrv the game. Also, best box art ever. Yes, it does go on for a long time. Get some friends who do also.
I love this game too. Will have to get the Traveler.
Totally want to get this + encapsulate all the "chips" in coin capsules
Resist the urge
Why is Quinns' resting face a disapproving glare?
Wiz-War is amazing! (the original version, of course)
Probably never gonna play this game, but still enjoyed the video a lot, thats amazing!
So the Themeing is the best part of the game. Also, What IS an Alpaca?
I can tell you: I used to have goats and my neighbour had alpacas. Alpacas are not goats. See?
So great
that ending tho
Trinston was here
Tea in a glass? What are you, French?
As someone who has knitted an alpaca from handspun alaaca, with bags of unspun alpaca in the room behind me and friends who own alpacas and who knows far too much about all the different South American camelids, can I just say that I bloody loved that ending!
Adorable.
Wiz-War was a great game. Though the original version was better than the newer one.
Thank you, been waiting for this game :3 Llama
I actually prefer this to Orleans. It's a great game with 2 or 3 players. Made me sell my Orleans.
So my take away from this is that Matt eats rocks..
Sooo, hey now, you're an.. hey where did the music go?
What's an alpaca‽
"What's an Alpaca?"
What happened to Paul?
SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME A LLAMA IS NOT AN ALPACA
An alpaca is basically a South American DONKEEEH!
Congrats, you convinced me to trade the game away. It IS too long. And it IS too multiplayer solitaire. Sad, cuz yanking stuff out of the bag IS fun.
So I guess get Orleans or Quacks?
Or Glüx. And it even rhymes :)
Cool Ghosts is leaking.
All-star?
WIZ-WAR DOES MATTER. It’s a classic.
I played Altiplano once. I spent it texting another friend about how the best thing about the game was the first player token. Altiplano has the problem I find in a lot of worker placement games where someone created a really neat system and someone must have asked "Cool system, what's the game?" the creator stumbled back, thought about it and went "Uh....victory points!" Fuck, what is an alpaka?!
Wiz-War is fun. I've always enjoyed every game of it, regardless of winning or losing. The rules highlight the theme, and the randomness calls for some creative play decisions.

Caaaaaaaaaarl!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Is this part of the strange lama fetish fad?
