I really love Phoenix, its applications are limited but I can’t wait to try it out in the snow.

i’m just not impressed with the film. there’s such a strong contrast and it often looks like the quality of a polaroid. every review i’ve seen of this film, the results have been completely underwhelming - and not due to the photographers themselves.

Why do you bother shooting film then. You seem like you prefer digital.

I think you should shoot digital if you are looking for a perfect results. These are first batches of the film and they created this from the gound up. It will be better in the future for sure.

So you shot three different ISOs on the same roll of film? I'm not sure that's what they mean by shooting at three ISOs. Normally, you shoot one ISO per roll. I've never heard of a film that was flexible when it comes to changing ISO on one roll. I mean...How is the lab going to know how to process it? Don't you have to let them know which ISO you used and then they process accordingly? If this in fact does have the capability to handle three ISOs on one roll of film at a time, then that's really cool! I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a film that was flexible like that.

He’s specifically under and over exposing the film by a stop each way, assuming 200 as box speed and developing for that. It’s a way to test the exposure latitude of the film - fairly standard

Did you do the scanning yourself or did the lab do it for you?
I'm thinking about NLP's "standard lab" profile after conversion which is meant to replicate the curve that labs give you and I often find it too contrasty. Maybe the film itself has a lot of contrast built in, plus more contrast from the lab and it becomes almost unusable.

I used to work at a film lab and the techs there said it actually looks best when scanned with an epson scanner. Their fuji scanner made the film look HORRIBLE. But they looked incredible on someone’s personal epson 600 scanner

I just picked up this film up today. and I talked to my friendly lab tech for a while about it. I am going to try and use it in a controlled environment, for some moody portraits. I feel like this could maybe possibly be an amazing film stock for indoor medium to low light moody images. outdoor in bright sun and dark shadows really bright out the worst in the contrast. imo. still cool though

Every youtuber trying to play nice and say how psyched they are for new film, but good god it just looks terrible in every single review. They say "Harman SAYS it's experimental, they admit they could've used more time developing it."....Then they should have.

Just got my roll back and wow. PUNCHY! I am going to def shoot it 1 stop over next time and scan at home. Lab scans are so dark. Understandable being an experimental film and excited for the future of the stock.

  • @snapsnappist4529
    @snapsnappist4529 11 днів тому

Hmm. Those scans look like they have been messed up by the lab. I don't think that any of the labs knew what scanner profile to use with this stuff, hence the wild contrast and bizarre colour palette. If I had to guess, I'd say that - like consumer level C41 films, the contrast and colour is "baked in" and needs no adjustments. In fact, a lot of the scans in the video look like my original scans of Ultramax or Gold, converted in NLP with Noritsu or Frontier profiles.
My first roll is away bieng developed, but when I get it back, I'm going to scan and convert with a completely linear tone profile and see what happens.

I liked the first photos of the brick building. Love the saturation of Orange. The reason I love Ektar and Fuji xtra . I guess this is like a lomography film as far as them saying to use it at 100 200 400 speeds. And I would use this for portraits. I use all film for everything and not what it says to use it for. I am an experimentalist and the reason I shooot film only. I like the unpredictability of results. It's like traditional painting. When the paint dries it could be a different shade of from what you started with.

For the price of Kodak portra, I’m not so sure this is a good film. I just picked up 5 rolls. Thanks for the video. We shall see. It looks like if I want to pay safe, I shall use it in over cast Seattle weather. When the sun is out, I will expose for the highlights and expecting the shadows to go black.

I really think the only decent results I have seen from this stock which still doesn't look amazing as it is still quite new was from Kyle McDougal. I would look at his videos as he goes in depth on pushing and pulling the film and how to maybe get the best results of this film stock.

    • @kyotodream7135

Thanks a lot for the content! I just bought this film and I'll definitely use your tips to try to get the best results out of it 😁
If I could just ask for one thing, it would be great if you wrote down the apperture and shutter speed of the photos when you show the results. Sorry, but as a non-native English speaker, it's a bit hard for me to get that just from you saying it. It's easier if it's written down. Other than that, perfect content, thanks a lot for your effort in doing that and kindness in sharing it 😊
