7:05, interesting take, as a longtime Spurs fan I remember seeing an interview with Gregg Pop speaking in regards to Tony’s final season, with the hornets. Tony told pop, that he was going to play for Charlotte because they were offering 10 million with an option to retire or play a consecutive season, wheareas in SA he would only be getting 6 Mil, Pop encouraged him to take the Hornets deal so that he would have a higher payday. When Tony brought up loyalty Pop told him that he’d been taking pay cuts and displayed loyalty throughout his career so he shouldn’t worry about loyalty to the organization. It was a very nice send off as a spurs fan because it allowed us to have more minutes to develop younger guards like Forbes, Murray, White, and Patty Mills.
In other words no loyalty at all by the spurs towards Tony in allowing him to finish his career with the spurs. They didn't want to pay. Nice story and how the spurs love to hate on so called disloyal players but then love it when the spurs dump players like Green and others and don't get called on it.
JLO Lopez what’s with the fuck spurs FO hype train damn. If the spurs were still rebuilding at that point, they may as well offer him a bigger contract. But they still were a playoff team. I think Tony Parker wanted to stay with the spurs and take a pay cut but Pop suggested for him to sign with the hornets for more money
JLO Lopez I don’t agree with that at all. Tony Parker was never on anyone’s radar coming into the league and defended poorly, some often argued that he was a systematic player. San Antonio wanted to pay him 6 million to ride the bench whereas Charlotte wanted to pay him for 10 million for a former finals mvp, championship experience , being a veteran guard to backup their all-star guard. Rotational minutes are important to develop younger players. Imagine if the Warriors never got rid of Monte Ellis in 2012, would Stephen Curry even have the minutes to develop into the Stephen Curry we know today? Everyone got what they wanted, from the Spurs fans, to Spurs Players, and even Tony Parker. So why are you hating, or choosing to see in in a negative light?
Fortnite Connaisseur of course not, I remember we got him right before the 2014 championship run from Portland, I live in the Bay Area and watched him play at St Mary’s. He is younger than Parker though, and at the time of Parker’s retirement he was still seen as a young player in the eyes of the Spurs.
If Kawhi stayed the Spurs would have still been a championship contender and possibly won a chip in 2019, but as a Raptors fan i am happy how it turned out lol 😂
@@Doknot-tb9ey despite not winning anything prior they went from a shitty team to a playoff contender prior to now Champs. That's enough to be happy about.
I'd love to see u do like a top 25 or top 50 players list since 2000 because I'm sure pretty much all of us gotta' pretty accurate depiction on how good those players were
Kawhi's a beast and assuming he stayed we would've still needed to get him some more support. I don't know who would've realistically joined us to team up with Kawhi. I'm not sure if PG would've wanted to come here. But looking at things unrealistically and with a fantasy lens, I think a Kawhi/Demar (obviously he was acquired through the KL trade, I'm just hypothesizing)/Aldridge trio would've been interesting.
Pops knew what he had in Kawhi. Letting Kawhi go is his biggest regret. I listened to Jason Tatum on All the smoke. Pops told in on the 38 minute into the video that he could be a Kawhi Leonard. Some players think they are two-way players but they are truly not. Kawhi you should look up to.
Pop did not respect Kawhi and treated him like a kid. He talked and listened to the big three but never to Kawhi. That transition never happened. When LeMarcus told him he wanted to be traded he listened to him and gave him the team and left Kawhi out in the cold. The injury happened and they didn't respect Kawhi's concerns about the injury. They placed demands on him that he listen to the spurs doctors and shut up and do what was told of him.
@@jlolopez9623 I'm a Spur btw. I think we've been punished. Pops intentionally traded him out of the country only for him to come back with a championship
Regardless, I think he still would've left SA ... that roster where they made it to the WCF in '17 was full of old vets, Manu, TP, and P. Gasol ... I don't blame Jonathan Simmons chasing a contract offer since the FO didn't re-signed him, Paul George would've been an interesting addition to the roster but not sure what assets they had at the time to pull the trade and his injury woes were still a bit concerning ... chemistry issues would've been another factor.. I recall LMA requesting a trade that offseason where him n Kawhi didn't see eye to eye
Its easy to see all he really wanted was to be in LA. It didnt matter who coached him, who was on his team, that he could have been the most popular guy in Canada, had a great young coach.. Dude never commited anywhere before the trade besides Lakers and after he was traded he bolted to LA ASAP.
Also showed that he didn’t care which of the LA teams it was. He just really wanted to be in that city and the Clippers were able to put that situation together for him

Although Toronto would not have won a title last season, they'd be even better this season than they have been by adding DeRozan to this already great 2019-2020 team.
"a 47-win team without Kawhi, if they had Kawhi they would be great, sixty-something wins" As a Raptors fan, just so sad thinking about how great we could have been if he stayed... a 60-win team without Kawhi, if they had him how great could that team have been
Idk about 60 wins being a guarantee. Kawhi sat 22 games with the Raps. They didn't get 60 wins, and that is an easier conference. Unless he just goes all out regular season, highest I could see them is high 50s.
What I don't get is how NBA fans will swear the Rockets and Spurs beat the Warriors, but then go back and say their rings are worthless and that they were unfair
You still don't believe in Kawhi. That's a shame. I think Kawhi brings the best out of the players around him. That's what you underrate. Players play like they are Rodman while with him. Only if you watched Powell, Siakam, Lowry and co interviews. I believe all those players who step up. You forget Klay and Patty cancelled each other in game 1 cos they both had 6 and 5 points while Kawhi was on the floor. You forget that Jonathan Simmons was mental and after Kawhi left he became a G league player. You forgot Kawhi took out Durant and out played him. You forgot Bertans was shooting threes and cancelling out Steph's threes. I shot a 3 you shoot a 3. Kawhi Leonard is a two-way player. He was doing it on both ends in that game. You still underestimate him. Shame. If you saw the Raptors vs Golden State in that game KD scored 50 but in the third quarter Kawhi was on the bench for most of it. KD got going. He got is rhythm flowing. Yes he hit a big shot over Kawhi but if The Klaw was on the floor most of that game would a big shot be needed? You also forget in the past finals. We all know Golden State are third quarter Kings. They murder teams in this quarter. Only in game 2 did they win that quarter in the finals. Guess who came out in the third quarter to start hitting shots after shots in the quarter to avoid Golden State making that run? You are thinking offensive minded but not defensively that's why you kept saying I don't think Spurs would have won. When Kawhi was below his brilliance in game 4 of the bucks series what happened? The team stepped up. When he was tired in game 6 of the finals. What happened? The team stepped up. Sure the golden State warriors aren't jokes. If the Spurs were in Houston's spot. One Kawhi wouldn't have the ball as much as Harden which makes it harder to defend. Two, we all know Patty, Bertens, bertnelli, Forbes are very good spot up shooters and Danny Green is too but he's also got defense. So they cancel out Steph and Klay's elite shooting. This is exactly what was happening in game 1. Kawhi was on Durant and Green was on LA. Your analysis isn't the best man. Very time Kawhi faces either KD, LeBron, Harden and co. They struggle when he's guarding them but as soon as he goes to the bench the begin to get their rhythm. Watch the games closely. Tune out everything else. You also forgot that Kawhi asked pops for PG.
Yea the difference with Kawhaii off The team was staggering. The team didn’t look like they could matchup well with the warriors, but Kawhaii being on the floor made such a huge impact. They was up 25 before Kawhaii got injured. Kawhaii is just a talent that can be replaced.
