So... he's in the same category as Bill Walton: they got to show their excellence, got hindered in their career and fell short even if they won several championships.
On another note, I think people don't take into account how much the death of his father affected him. It's the kind of thing that shatters your attitude towards life and the sport. The decisions he and his entourage made are directly linked to it.

    • @11DowningStreet

We gotta get rid of this “the Spurs were punishing Kawhi” narrative. Sure it wasn’t on his list, but he also wanted out at a time when the Spurs were about to lose of their OGs. The Lakers and Clippers at the time didn’t have enough and weren’t willing to give up their useful pieces for someone they viewed as a risk.
AND Toronto wasn’t a bottom of the barrel team and his deal still allowed him to leave after a year. At the end of the NBA is a business, and saying that that trade was a punishment is like saying giving someone a Dodge Charger when they wanted a Mustang is a punishment.

Would you say his career was an overall success on a level of an all time great? Or does recent years muddle his image and bring down his legacy? I think that’s the confusing part. Also, his metrics doesn’t really show how great of a player he is due to inability to stay on the court.

Kawhi to me is slightly better then KD. He’s just hurt too often.
He doesn’t care about individual accolades, he only cares about his team winning. I’ve seen so many games where Kawhi either has 30+ or close to a triple double in the 3rd quarter where if the game isn’t close he doesn’t play the 4th chasing stats.
Also I believe he messed up going to the Clippers… all he needed was to sign a 1 year deal with the Raptors and we would’ve gotten Lakers vs Raptors in 2020. Since Raptors has a better team and Kawhi wouldn’t have to deal with Pandemic PG
2021 Kawhi was phenomenal but was playing extra hard since for some reason the Clippers were stupid I’m never getting him and PG a point guard until Westbrook in 2023
