My sis was dr Drew's patient at Las encinas hospital I believe he saved her life, for many years. Dr drew literally taught us families on the weekend, in a classroom setting, about the addiction taking over our loved ones. My sis did not really listen to dr drew when he told her to wait on taking anti depressants so she could really know what drove her addictions. She wanted the anti depressants bc her mental state was more than she could bear. Las encinas did wonders for her, giving her 15 yrs more of life before she took her own life. I don't think she would have lasted another day had Las encinas not accept her
I am so sorry that happened to you. I was there during Dr Drew’s reign. He overemphasized trading addiction to drugs to addiction to a cult. It is sad that because of his love of AA there are no other options. It was hell at Las Encinas. For a number of reasons, but worse is being in the shadow of 12 Step. I had a belly full of that crap. It is slowly being discredited as new theories on mental illness and substance abuse emerge. Las Encinas is lousy with Dr Drew. The “experts” at LE only gave me a few days of Librium when they “withdrew” me from Benzos. I went through months of having withdrawal symptoms. Everyone is an addict to them. They preached that addiction a disease you are stuck with.
Whoever needs to hear this... I was able to put down my addiction with the help of anti-anxiety/depression meds and therapy... and YES... Jesus's God. I would NOT be alive if I had not chose to embrace and study The Teachings of Jesus in The New Testament of The Bible DAILY. The goal is not to be on perscription meds forever unless you REALLY need it. Addiction is a symptom of Pain from A Deep Emotional/Psychological Wound... or mental illness. The root of the wound needs to be healed. Just whatever you do... NEVER give up. Jesus's God is NEVER giving up on YOU. He is WAITING for you to pour Him your heart... with what He already knows. He WANTS your troubles... people are not gods... Jesus's God of The Holy Spirit IS.
I have 29 years experience as a mental health practitioner (psychologist) and can say that Drew is right on in everything he said. Bless you, my brother!
He wasn't referring to the mental health or even simple problems in society or people, which is how it appears you've interpreted that quote.... Just sayin' not doggin' on ya.
I have been saying it for years, and when I do most people just chuckle. They think I’m joking, it would seem. I’m not. *Social media is weaponized narcissism.*
I grew up as a teenager in the 1990s, listening to Drew on Loveline. Thank you so much for all your amazing work ... especially now for being so honest about these 💉's !
You apparently didn't notice it was a toxic, lowlife, narcissist fest for Pinsky and Corolla, in which they regularly humiliated guests. He is an authoritarian moron and a genuine narcissist.
As a nurse with an eclectic medical experience ( Who's father was also a Internal Med / OBGYN & Concierge physician.) I concur. Thank-you Dr.DREW For all you do. When working the night shift I listened to you often. ❤️ Blessings to you & your family & team.
I love Dr. Drew, and especially the old Loveline episodes, and now the Adam and Dr. Drew Show podcast - they're great counterbalances to each other - Dr. Drew, the intelligent, erudite, educated doctor, and Adam, the street smart, world wise everyman - they play well off each other and share their unique takes well, and beautifully come to shared common-sense conclusions. It's one of my favorite things to listen to on Spotify on my morning commute three days a week
Some of us childhood trauma survivors continue on avoiding everything when it comes to relationships. Especially with everything happening today. We have a pandemic of narcissism everywhere. That keeps me in an avoidance paradigm indefinitely.
And this is only compounded by the fact that OVER 80% OF ALL romantic relationships are now started online! And yet, most people will tell you that they DON'T like it, but it has started to feel like the ONLY way to meet new people. And let's not forget how these dating apps use the same type of toxic algorithms that more typical social media uses to everyone's detriment. It's really a shame what has happened to dating and relationships/human interaction in general.
Good point. I work at a coffee shop. Daily, I come across a multitude of these personalities that are so “ off kilter.” Specifically, many are so unfocused. I must make them focus so we can establish the order and move them along. They often do not like, especially when I press for specifics. It’s wild and so tiring sometimes . Tick Tom is the source of their $12 drink recipes 🤦♀️
The picture is brighter than it seems on that front, but there's definitely a LOT of people being left behind. That's especially true for all the men dropping out of the workforce and struggling to find purpose, which leads down this dark road of addiction.
The fact the current economy is the result of carefully executed plans by corporate/goverchunk powers and their tools makes your statement even scarier still!
Grew up watching and listening to Drew. Met him in person one time on a cruise ship and he was super cool, same dude you are seeing and hearing is the same guy you meet in person.
Sorry dude but you’re wrong. I knew Drew Pinsky in high school. We were a bunch of spoiled preppies who were pretty smart. Drew Pinsky is quite intelligent but he’s a terrible doctor. He misdiagnosed my friend’s father among others. I gotta say Drew Pinsky is hella good singer and dancer. He killed in our high school musicals. I mean he was amazing. So much talent. But not cut out for medicine. I’m glad he’s all board certified in several disciplines but most doctors are Fellows in the American College of Physicians. It’s almost required. We went to Polytechnic High in Pasadena, California. It was a college prep school attached to Cal-Tech. It had a very challenging academic curriculum. We graduated in 1975. But Drew Pinsky’s talent on the stage was tremendous. So now he’s found his way to where he belonged in the first place: Show Business.
I love Dr. Drew and his body of work. His optimism is cathartic for me being one whose glass is always empty. He's lived through so much of what I've seen, and I appreciate his sobering perspective and wish more folks paid attention to him. Thank you for a great interview and discussion.
Ok, I was absolutely not going to watch this because it was promoted by UA-cam, but I love Dr. Drew, so I gave it a chance and wow! I am shocked that UA-cam is promoting this; this video highlights the dangers of social media and discusses the importance and role of the nuclear family unit. UA-cam doesn’t tend to be a fan of these things or the topics being discussed. I loved every second of this video!
The tide is starting to turn for the people who oppose the narrative. I think that Musk getting Twitter is huge for more open discussions of different views.
Wow. I always loved this man. 83-I was 1. I love history-I now know-what a bad time it was for so many!!! The work he and so many others did-changed the narrative. Bless all those who loved lived and lost through that period. I see you!
Wow, Dr Drew is the man! I only knew him from MTV back in the day. He is such an authentic, wise, and accomplished man. He completely sidestepped the social contagion of "trans" and "rapid onset gender dysphoria" question and the interviewer didn't push it. If you follow his logic on all the other topics, I am sure he has strong opinions. He likely didn't want to risk his medical license to answer honestly, which I can get. Jordan Peterson's license to practice in Canada is under duress for simply speaking his mind...
Imagine Drew at 20, at Amherst, bright future ahead, then a 20 yr old Adam Carolla, scrimping to buy a pickup truck so he could make a dollar more an hour as an apprentice carpenter, and now they’re besties. That’s America!
I love the part about the rich and the poor suffering from the same illness. It makes me feel better about being in the middle. It has become apparent to me that I will not achieve the level of wealth and success that my father has. That’s been tough to deal with. He set the bar high. But it has to be acknowledged.
The rich and poor absolutely suffer from the same diseases, across humanity. How the rich and poor are treated is where the two worlds are polar opposites.
I've heard of Dr. Drew for years but never took him very seriously back in the day. This in depth interview about him really impressed me. Great job! John asked him many questions I would have liked to ask. I really learned a lot from this interview.
@@colorocko1 I agree!!! It revealed more of where he came from as he developed through the years. I feel he's a good man and any ego as others are calling him out on is not a bad ego on him. He's not the ugly egotistical type. I sense it's more that it gave him a lot of confidence and that's good because he doesn't parade it in any way. He did work hard at everything he did, so he deserves to have earned confidence in himself.
Narcissisism is a meaningless term without a whole host of presupposed value judgements, funny how Dr. Drew would go after celebrities when his whole career had berm about self promotion at the expense of others
@@l21n18 Narcissism is a very meaningful term. Lack of empathy, self entitlement, inability to connect emotionally, reactivity, defensiveness. Those of us who have dealt with narcissists appreciate the term.
as a 55 yr old CA. native, I was listening to Dr. Drew and the "Poorman" (DJ Jim Trenton) while still in high school. Just recently rediscovered him here on UA-cam, but he's the same dude here today! He's a good guy and makes this world a better place to be in:)
Was only going to watch this for 5 minutes… I kept telling myself every five minutes or so just one more part… and before I knew it I had watched the whole thing. Fantastic video !
I went to a therapist because she was supposedly good for anxiety. All she talked about was herself. I told the office no further visits would be scheduled cuz she made me so anxious I couldn't sleep! Haven't been to anyone else since.
I once had a narcissist therapist as well. Like with many professions, it happens. But I’d encourage you to see someone else because you never know when you find a great one! I think it happened to me after 2 pretty bad ones. I’ve met narcissistic people in many “important” positions actually. They are part of life. Glad you were able to see the red flags right away and didn’t go back to her.
I had a massage therapist (after bad car accident) 3x’s a week, and I left feeling more stressed d/t her constant talking!! She was incessantly telling me about every detail of her love life, and used me as her counselor/therapist 🙄 Atleast the sessions were paid for by the guys insurance who T-boned me! And she was great @ deep tissue massage :) You should keep trying others though, there are some good Psychologists out there to help with your anxiety.
I understand. Here’s a suggestion. Check out Patrick Teahan’s UA-cam channel (licensed therapist specializing in childhood trauma AND is recovered from the same himself). He’s fantastic & the first therapist I’ve ever found who is genuinely helpful. Also, check out the Crappy Childhood Fairy’s UA-cam channel as well. I wish you well.
Wow. I was totally sucked in. I loved this entire conversation. This stuff is so important and as a parent, really makes me think and want to make some changes, screen time especially!
I’m a mental health clinician that recently worked 5 years with law enforcement in Los Angeles county. Everything that Dr Drew is saying regarding the homelessness/mental health crisis is true!!
This is a phenomenal episode. I love Dr. Drew. I am also glad I found this channel! We don’t need biased politicians and activists to fix the homeless problem, we need the dedicated, sane medical community and parents. “Empathy is the last to be developed” … what a huge distinction! Thanks Dad Dude! ❤
As opposed to what the clown Dr. drew? Also He isn’t appealing politicians? What’s your definition of “sane” here? A man who engages in shameless self-promotion at the expense of others and has a constant need for the limelight? What’s an activist too?
I burned out working as a mental health professional in trauma and addiction. Dr Drew makes me think about working there again. Super smart, insightful, big picture.
Living in a city that because of increasing services has become a magnet for the addicted and mentally traumatized, would love to have Dr. Drew serve as an advisor to verify or deny effectiveness of approaches/programs. Want to make sure that resources are being effectively used to benefit these individuals so that they improve and not get worse.
I don’t think our leaders want to actually help the addicts dying on the street. If they wanted to help, they wouldn’t keep doing what they’ve been doing , and failing, then repeating the same failed policies. Actions speak louder than words.
55:04 “The Vortex (being sucked into an addict’s world)…the (addict’s) brain is in survivor mode, and has been usurped by all the higher functions; reasoning, inter-personal functions and emotions that now serve this broken motivation..you just become a source of gratifying that addiction. Period.” Wow
Yes that was a wow, a big piece of the puzzle for me- tho i’m understanding it this way, that the survival brain usurped those higher functions like reasoning and empathy. Such an important conversation.
Thank you Dr. Drew for your support of maintaining family for a child’s stability . Although I had a few traumas when I was young , my divorce at age 49, after 23 years of marriage , heightened the trauma again and shook up our son whom had just turned 21 . Now 22 years later my son , his son ( our grandson) and his mom live in my house. It’s cost me a lot of my savings but their family is intact and I think it’s provided some stability for my grandson. I’m broke financially because I used their inheritance for them while I’m still alive. I’ve prayed about this over and over .
Why do you think that money you worked for and saved is his inheritance? I don't like to see adults sacrificing themselves while they are alive, just to have a bunch if money to leave kids. Let them earn their own. I encouraged my mom to take trips and spend her money while she was alive. There was very little left when she passed but I didn't care, it was hers to enjoy.
@@FRAME5RS I know what you mean . I wish I had made some other choices . Basically, I did for my grandson’s welfare . I had been his guardian until end Od 2021. The parents got caught up in drugs . They relapse occasionally.
@honey-- feeney Sounds like you should stay his guardian unless and until they stop relapsing. Kids are smart and even though you're there trying to hold it all together, it will affect him. Adults who shirk their responsibility of raising their kids onto their older parents are so selfish. I raised mine and I'd hate to have to raise my grandkids for this reason. Sorry you're in that spot. You should be doing what you enjoy, not this.
Thank you for this interview. We need much more of this discussion due to all aspects of our society aiming their arrows at our children. Parents today need help dealing with issues that previous generations didn’t have. Almost daily there are reports of parents attempting to shield their children and then the modern day Jacobins show up with their guillotines
I listen to loveline for years. With Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew. Loved that show. I've even been listening the the old episodes on UA-cam. Adam talked so much about himself-- his life, his opinions his upbringing, career etc. It refreshing to hear more about Drew's background for a change.
Riding the bus and living in a wealthy neighborhood, I can testify that the very rich and the very poor are the same breed of human. It's a terrifying thing to understand.
I have felt that way for decades and I believe they are the same because neither have any morals tho it's for different reasons. This podcast though added another dimension to it because both are addicted and I hadn't really thought of the addictions of the wealthy but it's quite obvious. Their addictions are to money to security which is a false security and to being number one and destroying anyone else who comes in their path that may threaten it in any way shape or form. I remember working in a temp job and the boss woman who was also temp looked at me and she said--I know what you're thinking. AND I thought: it was about noon & was thinking about lunch. HOW does she know that? She was worried about me because I was much smarter than her it seems. And I have to credit her with noticing that which I hadn't even thought about that till now. BUT I guess she thought I was smarter than her and I probably was, just saying😉 but I was only thinking about lunch. I certainly wasn't thinking about taking her dhitty little temp job. AND then she called me into her office and she said: YOUR analysis on these legal documents is so different than-- and she named this young guy. I thought-- YEAH, so what? I knew that his would probably be pretty superficial although he was planning to be a lawyer. I could tell from his personality he wasn't exactly in possession of great depth in any way, shape or form. THAT was her reason for firing me. Pretty crazy but that's how they are when they get power and she wasn't even an elite, even more dangerous if she had been.
“The Mirror Effect” got me into psychology. It’s a powerful exposé on a debilitating disorder that awareness of is a life / death matter. It’s the real epidemic of our time.
Definitely one of the best, honestly straight up, no holds barred talk about the internet. Growing up with fake book. And how to deal with all of thee above, without being an enabler. Very well done gentlemen....
36:14 “It’s essentially a socio-emotional exchange system…that it embedded in our face, and in our body…that starts in infancy…me having emotions that wash over me, that I can’t identify; you reflecting them back to me, appreciating them, not catching them, but understanding, relating and feeling them to some degree AND reflecting them back on your face; so I know I’m felt!”
Dr. Drew & Dr Joe Dispenza are life changing heros of our times. They are both committed to humanity. Seeing Dr. Drew stand up to political nonsense is my favorite part about him, “he’s not brilliant so he helps humanity; he helps humanity so he’s brilliant.” My quote. When you have found your niche/purpose you shine like a brand new Penny. THANK YOU to these individuals and sooooo many others…..
Wow, just WOW. !!!I'm so glad I came across this deeply meaningful video, especially on this subject matter. I'm 36 yrs sober at 58 yrs old. Mercifully I got sober at 21 which was a MIRACLE. I started drinking suicidally and doing drugs after a brutal gang sexual assault at age 12 by 15 adult drunken men. After being left for dead I was finally able to escape my confinement. I was set up for this by two jealous sisters who wanted to cause me direct harm because a boy liked Me and not them because I was a white girl, which made me a trophy to the boy of 15 from a very different culture than mine. I remained suicidal into my mid 30's when I finally reached out for serious professional help. I under went both cognitive behavioral therapy and prolonged exposure which altered the course of my life from that point forward. The lesson I learned midway through the program was life-changing for me. That message was, that I was not the product of what happened to me and that my past did not have to dictate my future.. that I could not go back in time to stop what happened but I could go back and learn how to better process what happened to me in a healthy controlled way. I was interviewed at that time and was part of an article that was written for the FDA Journal of Medicine on the effects of PTSD and rape with these specialized therapies. When I got sober I entered a 12-step program which gave me the accountability, cohesiveness in fellowship with other people who were like-minded, and high success rate of 75% in 1987 and learning to articulate my thoughts and emotions in a controlled group setting, that was governed by rules of conduct, and that was not judgmental which was very therapeutic, and statistically replacing people places and things was paramount. All that Dr Drew spoke about and WHY I was able to have success in my recovery from my first day and not relapse. In the Big Book it talks about that 'being spared the last 10 to 15 years of literal hell that others had gone through'. It's true for Me. Without the accountability component and the natural healthy progression in recovery through the 12 steps, I would not be the successful person that I am today in my recovery. My relationships 🙄 have always been complicated both personal and romantic and regrettably I have not had great success with either. My family is just as dysfunctional as it's always been. I am however able to look at each person in the family and recognize that each person responded to what was being presented to them in a different way, based on their character and personality as well as environmental factors. That we all do not perceive or process things in the same way. Both of my parents came from unhappy unhealthy homes and did not have good role models and so they themselves were not good role models, in fact there were very few good role models in my life for happy homes. I was a product of divorce at the age of 10. My life today is not perfect, in fact I'm presently homeless living in a motel with my adult son the last year. I am now physically disabled as well as having chronic PTSD (which is under control) but have recently been assessed by a psychiatrist and he believes that I have a new diagnosis of PTSD based on my life in the last 7 years since I became physically disabled and my entire life got flipped upside down culminating to me being here and this tiny little room with my service dog and cat and son, thank God for my son. The house that we lived in for the last 10 years was sold and there are extenuating circumstances surrounding all THAT mess with family members at which time I had to set very stern boundaries for myself and I blocked every person aside from my two sons on social media and have not had connection to them in over a year. I needed to do that for my own mental Health and well being. So because I am homeless and there are lots of people here that are homeless, I counsel with them when asked. Being homeless is not for the faint of heart no matter what caused it especially with the stigmatism that comes with it even though there are many middle class Americans today that are facing homelessness or hitting homeless because of our current economy and the mortgage prices and market failure and the rent increases due to covid and the moratorium on evictions. I, like Dr Drew, am an optimist historically in My life which has been a saving Grace for Me. I believe that the world is a beautiful place and they're a beautiful people in it but that there is also evil and people that I cannot account for ..my mind goes numb thinking about it, it just not make sense to me, the hatred, the bias, all of it.. the sickens my soul. It feels like so many people in our country are in a free fall and if there are no people there to catch them, that actually care about them, those people will be lost and THAT that is a shame. So again thank you so much for doing this interview and for the transparency by Dr Drew and for You as the host, I thank you so much and I will share it with people that I work with. I am a Spiritual Life Coach/Sponsor/Mentor for 35 years and have had success in helping countless people on their road to recovery and changing of negative destructive behavioral issues to be able to have a more healthy lives, make better choices, find themselves within themselves. After years of suggestion I am finally writing a book on My life experiences on 'what doesn't work'! I think that will be the title LOL. Thank you both again and God bless you.
Thank you for sharing your story; that takes courage and confidence and you just showed them both. I’m still wondering, if you got your life on track why is still hard to rent an apartment? Wishing you all the best
Drew Pinsky is one of the most delightfully refreshing and *real* people to ever become a media personality. We are lucky to have him. I remember loving him 30 years ago, and I love him even more now!
So you think taking down and out broke celebrities who are in the throes of addiction, putting them on tv while they are in rehab and serving it all up for public consumption as a form of “entertainment” is honorable and just? He should have his medical license yanked for what he does. He’s made millions off the pain and suffering of celebrity addicts.
@@lisamarielund6292 ok. I’ll bite. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I haven’t watched television in about 25 years. What I’m referring to is his work on LoveLine back in the 90s and his current podcast, neither of which have (or had) anything like what you describe (from what I’ve seen). But I suspect I am soon to find out more… probably more than I care to know, but then I’m the one who decided to bite… Oh and by the way, do you think that the down and out celebrities you refer to were “taken and put on TV” by force, or something? There are contracts, payments and choices involved in these types of thing, I believe.
Thank you for this. Very informative and well worth the hour and 1/2 that I thought I didn't have available to watch. If you are reading this, set aside the time and watch this interview! If after watching, you think it was not worth your time, I'll give you your money back!
No need to sit and watch. We all know what Dr. Drew looks like. Just pop in some ear buds and listen while you do your dishes or cook dinner. Allows time for catching these kinds of interviews.
Fantastic interview! I’ve learned so much and I’ve got some helpful information on narcissism. THANK YOU very much. Dr Drew you’re amazing gift from God
I think majority of people have always experienced trauma, through history of mankind. It’s rare to not have had some trauma. Some obviously much more severe than others.
Trauma is normal and common for 99.99% of all life on earth, let alone people. Only postmodern western societies are able to pretend that trauma (and by proxy, any discomfort of any kind) isnt normal and common. And also the same societies attempt to erase all trauma from existence and the results speak for themselves. People live 20 years never having seen any type of adversity AT ALL suddenly realize that the world (and all life) is sculpted by trauma and pain. And then go on shooting rampages or kill themselves. Everything is needed in balance. ☯️ can't have happiness without pain. Cannot have ecstasy without trauma. Trauma is REQUIRED in order to put life into perspective.
Trouble is it's all relative. The slave who was beaten would tell the black guy who thinks he was discriminated against because he got 10 years for the armed robbery he committed while the white guy only got 5 years to get over himself. I'm sure my ancestors watched their parents get eaten by wolves at some point, I doubt they'd wanna hear my "I get anxiety in grocery stores" bullshit.
Walk a mile in my shoes and see how many skills you have to ‘deal with it’. Trauma changes you. Trauma that begins before birth and continues well into adulthood compounds. It is not trauma + trauma. It is trauma x trauma. RESPONSES to trauma are necessary for survival. Over time, we become wired for survival, not everyday living. It takes the right information, the right support and the right strategies to overcome. And only then can you find the resources you need to confront what has actually happened to you. The abuse, the betrayal, the abandonment. You have to find the courage to live, every day, with the grief. The grieving that never, ever ends. Because you have lost so much: your sense of safety and security, your sense of self, your ability to trust in other people. AND WHILE YOU ARE GOING THROUGH ALL OF THIS, you have to make the choice, every single day, to be in a world that is full to the brim with people who can and do inflict this kind of pain on others. You have to find a way to feel safe in a world that you know is not. So keep your stupid creeds to yourself. If you had walked this path, you wouldn’t be so f’ing flippant.
It just breaks my heart when I see homeless people who seem so absolutely lost. I just want to smother them with hugs and let them know they are worthy of self love and self care. Some can succeed by learning personal responsibility .
Ads Dr. Drew has said, the homeless are 99% addicted and without treatment. No amount of hugs and kisses will help them take responsibility. They most want to be on the streets so they can engage in their addiction, as shelters don't allow that activity. It's sad.
I have grown tired of the notion that low self esteem is the cause of violence, bullying, and narcissism. In the real world, predators look down on their prey, and feel they have a right to impose their will on another. In geopolitics you never see a weak country, and culture, that invades its neighbors in order to take their land and resources. It's always the countries, and cultures, that think they are superior, and deserve to have what others own. Look no further than the line of David in the Old Testament for a perfect example. You see the same thing happening with the global Oligarchy, who think they are the superior race - the race of the rich. They believe they are so superior that they deserve to have it all, while telling the rest of humanity that by 2030 we'll "own nothing and be happy."
I would love to hear Dr Drew’s opinion on the trauma based learning and social emotional learning that teachers are being required to teac and utilize now . As a teacher, I don’t feel qualified and worry this will do more harm than good. Most in our profession feel it’s a key word to excuse behavior
Me too, he is adamant that he had functioning models of treatment that just need application. I would like to see that because no one seems to have good outcomes especially with adduction. I dont think misplaced political ideas can account for such high fail rates ? The risk of odose death following rehab is many times higher than that of untreated addcts . Even the best intervention is far more dangerous than no intervention. I am sll for the evidence based tbinking so.Im struggling to find substance other than an adherance to tradition .
As a parent, I'm glad its being taught. There is nothing wrong with being able to name your emotions, understand how they make you feel, and have coping skills. A lot of adults can't do this. It's not excusing the bad behavior, it's giving you the information to best work with the bad behaviors. My kidd has ODD. I never went to therapy as a kid for various reasons, I don't have that diagnosis. I just called it my f you streak. And there are times I tell myself to just shut up and do the thing but I cannot make myself do it past that point. And part of it is kids learn that they are people too who have a say over their feelings and bodies, and that is very frustrating for adults who want them to be like well trained dogs because we all grew up with the idea that children are required to obey instantly.
Please look into SEL further up the chain to see where it comes from. SEL is not what is labelled on the tin. There is a lot of money behind it and is being implemented in lockstep in all English speaking countries.
Thank you Dr Drew…I listen to you! You offer sanity…to the ‘doubting Thomas!’ More therapy is what we need…and more Dr Drew types to facilitate great progress! ❤
What a fantastically opinionated real human being! I recently discovered that opinionated could be a compliment and an asset for the possessor of this often maligned quality. Most wonderful interview. As a defender of the male since forever (I am a first-born female) it is so heartening to see the emergence of the whole man. I am subscribing.
How well do I understand all these parts to the holistic view of the homeless and drug addicts and narcissist / personality disorders. I have lived and worked with all three groups. It's hard but manageable . There is hope.
Thank you for discussing the way you handled kids alcohol at parties. When my daughter grew up said she was too afraid to do anything “are you kidding?”because “the world would stop” So actually my children are cleaner than me and my husband. 😊
I see parallels between homelessness and mental illness/addiction, because Ive been mentally I’ll since age 6, an addict since 22 on and off, and homeless since 24 on and off.
Dr. Drew is spot on about family court! Besides the problems he lists, one of the other problems is that many judges do not see mental abuse when it is right before their eyes, being testified about in court! They don’t see narcissism, or even worse, misogyny! My ex was a classic misogynist that turned into almost psychopathic control and abuse over his family. The judge couldn’t even recognize it, and my attorney had to school him for the future.
I like the section after the interview where you present the takeaways from it as pertains to parenting or life in general. Although I'm obviously not a Dad, I'm still a parent to grown Sons and always enjoy learning.
As a 62 year old woman with no addictions, or rather a "Boomer Karen" with CPTSDs from years and years of violent child abuse. I'm not addicted to anything, been working since I was 14 (I had to buy my own food and clothes), and now cancel culture has made it almost impossible to get hired in any job. I am seriously facing homelessness. I've always worked hard and taken care of myself. I could collect social security but I can no longer afford rent. He's trying to tell me I'm a narcissist because the economy and Woke culture has been pushing me into poverty. I fu**ing give up.
Nobody's telling you you're a narcissist. Find a cheaper room/appartement,find a good partner, lots of jobs want anti-woke people like you. Solve your problems, stop feeling sorry for yourself and blaming others for everything including your own failures. You can change your situation and improve your life because you've been a fighter your whole life. You can do it much better than average person. Look what you've been through and you still never failed. You are different. Much stronger than you think.
Just in need too. Had my fiance dieing in my arms took two narcan on the street and the couple more in the hospital. And she's a narcissist it's horrible I want to send this to her thanks bro
I feel sorry for parents trying to be parents today. How exhausting it must be now to fight against an increasingly perverse world where good is evil and evil is good.
Parents need Jesus Christ. The world needs Jesus Christ. I am a parent who has Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of severe childhood trauma. My life was a mess when I became pregnant with him. I gave my life to Jesus Christ at the age of 25, when my son was 2 years old. He is now 24 and is a strong, kind and capable adult. He made the decision never to drink alcohol when he was in his teens. My son has his own faith in Jesus Christ and, because of this, he has fantastic boundaries. He doesn’t compromise who he is to belong. When I look at my son, I see a miracle.
Thank you so much for this series! I was so desperate for answers tonight because, to use your example, the plant has eaten me. It is astounding to hear my experience coming from your lips! I begged God to help me, and your videos appeared. God bless you.🙏

As a paramedic in the late 70s, I noticed a pattern in the way we were treated by wealthy and poor patients. It was one of disrespect for what we were doing for them. Later, as a RN working in ERs, a pattern emerged, primarily among the indigent, as the wealthy did not frequent the facilities that I worked in, of bipolarity being a very frequent comorbidity among those who were frequent fliers or came in for minor, non-emergent issues. These are the factors that strain the system that we have. Furthermore, there is a disconnect in the type of care and the use of resources by these populations. Not only would handling a lot of ‘nonemergent’ emergency room and ambulance calls be more cost efficient through use of primary care physicians and/or urgent care clinics, but the comorbidities of mental health could be better treated. Of course, this would impact the earnings of corporate run medical facilities and their patient mining with massive ERs, but we have to face the facts of how the healthcare dollar is spent, whether it is private pay, insurance, or tax-funded. More attention needs to be brought to very frequent mental health issues that Dr Drew reveals and our lack of addressing them appropriately.
@Pepe Pupu mental illness is part of mental health. If you don’t treat mental health as well as physical health, the potential for illness increases. When illness, either mental or physical is s present, then a decent system is needed to treat it by curing it or reducing its negative impact. Our system is split between the two aspects of health, but our bodies and minds are not. We do not practice holistic care and we don’t have continuity of care in what we do practice. Forty plus years in the field and all I see is a decline in how we manage healthcare.
@@george344 Imagine if we could remove corporations and insurance companies out of health care. And make it completely free for everyone. That's my greatest wish in life.
Dr Drew has the best intentions always. He's always coming from a place of helping people in such a healthy way. He is the best man I know of and I now know exactly what I need and want to attract in a healthy partner should that ever happen and if it doesn't, I will attract the best friends because of him. I'm so glad he is on YMH and all over all kinds of podcasts because I had no idea how amazing he is until recently even though I've watched him throughout the years. Thank you Dr. Drew! And anyone who bad mouths him is just an ignorant troll.
Dr drew is a amazing American. Like Judge Joe Brown he says it like it is and the truth. Even though it’s detrimental to his career. I appreciate his ballllz
I am a retired shrink practiced in nyc for decades and i used to say to my male patients( they only came in for sexual problems ),that it was strength not weakness to be honest with self or others about negative emotions like fear, worthlessness, etc..I encouraged them to start mens support groups 40 yrs ago, this argument about redefining what male strength is was right on, it is hard for men to do this, so it takes courage and that is male strength!
I don't think she would have lasted another day had Las encinas not accept her
I’m very sorry and my heart goes out to you. ❤

So sorry you lost her
I have 29 years experience as a mental health practitioner (psychologist) and can say that Drew is right on in everything he said. Bless you, my brother!
“All roads lead to narcissism”. No truer words were ever said.
He wasn't referring to the mental health or even simple problems in society or people, which is how it appears you've interpreted that quote.... Just sayin' not doggin' on ya.
@@billmcgubbins1476 yet, you don't enlighten us on what he really meant
@@AngelWest58 I believe he's referring to the drive behind seeking fame/likes/whatever on social media and how it has magnified narcissism.
I have been saying it for years, and when I do most people just chuckle. They think I’m joking, it would seem. I’m not.
*Social media is weaponized narcissism.*
@@billmcgubbins1476 yea, This is the first time I’ve heard that quote . And I must disagree with it .
The comments regarding narcissism was so insightful and compassionate...I really appreciated stumbling upon this interview
My sister had severe childhood trauma, married a narcissist… last year at age 49 she took her life
So true!
@@mikeymike1981sorry to hear about your sister.
The fact that our current economy is hollowing out the middle class into either very rich or very poor makes this juxtaposition even scarier.
Dr Drew, you are criminally underrated and one of the wisest people of our time.
Dr Drew’s experience is impressive and has definitely helped him be an excellent physician and human being.
No child under 18 should be on any social media. It's that simple.
Dr. Drew, thank you for speaking out. Love you and your wife.

Imagine Drew at 20, at Amherst, bright future ahead, then a 20 yr old Adam Carolla, scrimping to buy a pickup truck so he could make a dollar more an hour as an apprentice carpenter,

Carolla is hilarious but paired with Dr Drew was so frustrating to try and hear Dr Drew through Adam's nonsense.
I like them both but not together.

Narcissisism is a meaningless term without a whole host of presupposed value judgements, funny how Dr. Drew would go after celebrities when his whole career had berm about self promotion at the expense of others

So many “therapists” are truly in more trouble than their patients…Dr. Drew is an exception to me
So if you had a bad meal would you never go to another restaurant? Keep going until you get someone who helps you.
As opposed to what the clown Dr. drew? Also
He isn’t appealing politicians? What’s your definition of “sane” here? A man who engages in shameless self-promotion at the expense of others and has a constant need for the limelight? What’s an activist too?
I miss hearing doctor Drew on the radio. I used to listen to him every day Monday through Friday.
I used to listen to him on KROQ with Poorman way back in the day in LA. Loved all he does since then. Please don’t tell anyone how old I am.❤️

AND
then she called me into her office and she said: YOUR analysis on these legal documents is so different than-- and she named this young guy.

@@FRAME5RS Great idea, but 1) I gotta get some wireless earplugs & 2) I only cook in the microwave for 2~3 minutes :).
@@shazam6274 I put my phone in my pocket and listen while I do chores or go for a walk.
Fantastic interview! I’ve learned so much and I’ve got some helpful information on narcissism. THANK YOU very much. Dr Drew you’re amazing gift from God
Wow. Dr. Drew this is a very compassionate view. You get it. God bless and please continue
It's not the severity of the trauma that matters, it's how you deal with it.
@@johannagrace7768Dr. Gabor Mate has some amazing videos about all of this.
Awesome interview. Dr. Drew has such a great attitude, so much knowledge and motivation to keep society healthy.
It's sad.
@@FRAME5RS I've been homeless. I wasn't addicted to anything. On both occasions I was badly let down by people I'd previously helped.
I’ve been off social media for years and haven’t looked back.
Excellent interview… A must share
@@steeltoejamwhat is SEL?
Manageable for the non narcissist.
thnx Dr. Drew for these insights
Thank you for talking about the central nervous system and codependency.
Profound. Awesome session gentlemen!
I do miss hearing Drew on loveline.
Thank you for discussing the way you handled kids alcohol at parties. When my daughter grew up said she was too afraid to do anything “are you kidding?”because “the world would stop” So actually my children are cleaner than me and my husband. 😊
This is an EXCELLENT interview- if I ruled the world, everyone would have to watch it. I definitely will share 💖❤️ .. thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing!!
Stop giving your 10 year olds smart phones and get them away from the heathens in public schools.
I assume the legal people have the same condition when they excuse or reward the narcissist.
You sound like a typical female narcissist....
Dr. Drew is a gem. Been listening to him since Loveline back in the day. Great interview
I highly enjoyed this interview. With Dr Drew, there is hope.
First time here, Strong episode. Can relate. Beautiful interview. Thank you.🙏🏽
I like the section after the interview where you present the takeaways from it as pertains to parenting or life in general. Although I'm obviously not a Dad, I'm still a parent to grown Sons and always enjoy learning.
This interview was so good.
I absolutely love you dr Drew. God bless! Stay authentic!❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I love Dr. Drew!! And his wife Lisa is amazing. Keep up the honesty Dr. Drew.
So good!!! Sharing this for sure!!! Thank you!
I hope Dr. Drew will be doing more lectures and interviews .
I had never considered the correlation but it makes perfect sense when stated simply. Thanks
Wow! Revelations just popping off in my head . Makes so much sense!!! Ty!
I see parallels between transgenderism and narcissism.
This is such a good conversation. Dr. Drew is awesome and knows what he’s talking about.
i've been a fan of Dr. Drew ever since loveline on mtv and it's always been a breath of fresh air hearing him speak his mind!
I love Dr. Drew. He's such a great example as a human. He's always learning and growing and pursuing being a better human.
I wish Drew would have a SERIES of talks with Jordan Peterson and Jonathan Haidt. Say a 6 part series where they themed each ep
Outstanding conversation. Wow!
Just in need too. Had my fiance dieing in my arms took two narcan on the street and the couple more in the hospital. And she's a narcissist it's horrible I want to send this to her thanks bro

Not only an A Class Act but an above average human & outstanding Doctor.
Always excellent.

I feel sorry for parents trying to be parents today. How exhausting it must be now to fight against an increasingly perverse world where good is evil and evil is good.
Thank you. No one tells you how hard it is-and then-with modern tech-no one knew how much harder it was about to get! Thank you.
Agree. What a hard time to raise children today. So tough
God bless you.🙏
Glad I clicked this. Love you man thanks for doing ur part to save America CUS WE NEED SAVING. We need better food in schools I'm hoping we can find a way to help at least communities grow some healthy food for the school and remove fluorescent lights so bad
Such a simple thing to have edible gardens in every school.
@@tessalee6253 you’re right. We get our symptoms treated, not our diseases cured. Read up on how Pfizer is looking at the future of coronavirus.
@@george344 Imagine if we could remove corporations and insurance companies out of health care. And make it completely free for everyone. That's my greatest wish in life.
Dr Drew has the best intentions always. He's always coming from a place of helping people in such a healthy way. That sounds like some crackhead behavior to me
Love Dr. Drew and his drive to heal, and help people, thanks man!
They refuse to look at anything that will detract from their wallets

Yes it is but it's a symptom not a cause.
