    Cagney was amazing. George C. Scott was one of my favorites (especially in Patton and A Christmas Carol). Also like Gene Hackman.

    When I was a kid in Zambia in the '70s, I saw a Cagney gangster movie on TV, and have ever since loved cigars and fedoras. I didn't know who that enigmatic, urgent young gangster was, then, but I do now, for I re-discovered him on cable in India. Only, now he was a song-and-dance man! The energy of a Rooney and the gravity of a Bogart, in one man. I am privileged.

    nice of him to praise publicly another great actor. these guys earned their pay, and it was never about their private lives for you and i to hold them to standards we ourselves could not hope to meet (however we chose to bitch about them here).

    The eulogy was FOR Jimmy Cagney given BY George C. Scott. Cagney WAS alive but HAD retired. Do pay attention.

    Not sure I should be bothered to reply to this, but what the heck. A 'eulogy' is 'good words' for someone who is either deceased or retired. This was a eulogy - and/or a tribute if you like - but it was a eulogy nonetheless.

    George C. has that look as to say, there really is no one out there, that can kick my ass. He would be a riot to sit down and have a drink with. George C. Scott as "Patton" is forever, and forever.

      His father was a colonel, I believe. I agree. You could not mess around with George C Scott. The only person who did so: was himself. Ahhh: I just adore his acting. And I love this tribute he gives to my favorite actor of all time, the one and only: Faraway Fella, James Frances Cagney. 💚💚💚💚💚

    Scott had a relationship with Ava Gardner, Sinatra's ex-Wife, during the filming of John Huston's The Bible in the mid 60s, He was drinking heavily, and Gardner related in her autobiography that he physically attacked her with sufficient force to damage her cornea. Sinatra learned of the incident and he sent bodyguards to protect Ava for the remainder of the filming. Consequently, there was no love lost between the two men.

      scott was a drunk who beat women...ava gardner was one...sinatra had him visited by a few friends.....but...silly ava went back for more.

    I'm surprised that Frank Sinatra was solicitous towards George C. Scott, in view of the turbulent relationship with Ava Gardner, Sinatra's ex-wife, that was documented in Gardner's autobiography. She and Scott worked together in John Huston's film of "The Bible" in the mid 60s and had an affair that ended when Scott, in a drunken rage, assaulted and injured Gardner. Scott was plagued by alcoholism for the remainder of his stage and screen career. He had enormous respect and admiration for Cagney and visited his farm.

      ava...didnt mind the abuse...went back for more after sinatra put the fear of death into scott...who after ava did leave spent time recovering in a mental hospital...

      Jade Zee Ava didn’t mind the abuse? Are you kidding me? Then you said she went into a mental hospital? Oh brother!

    • @virghammer1
      @virghammer1 2 роки тому

      @BuckRoo - No. Obviously, George C Scott was the one that went to the mental hospital to get some therapy and help. Not Ava. Please read the post correctly. Thanks.

    great actor...but a horrible man...a drunk a woman beater,,, in fact he beat ava Gardner so bad friends thought he would kill her Sinatra may have sent a few guys to scotts house when asked to help ava....when she left him scott had to be institutionalized to deal with it

    I think George C. was more concerned about glamorizing his acting skills as to why he was really there.

    @dovestones Dustin Hoffman is not a midget; he's only about an inch or two shorter than Sinatra. Kind of hypocritical for Sinatra to do such a thing anyways, but it's not as though it's news to me that Sinatra's morals and behavior were questionable at best.

  • @DeepScreenAnalysis
    @DeepScreenAnalysis 14 років тому +1

    I don't think Sinatra would have been quite so cordial to Scott if he knew about him beating up Ava Gardner during their relationship. Or maybe he did?

    the question is was he a5 star or 3 star. Gorge played a better Patton than the man himself

    • @jimgeiser1570
      @jimgeiser1570 5 років тому

      Gen. Geo. S. Patton, sr. was only a 4-star general. He was never even considered for a 5th star, even posthumously.
