Thank you for making this video! I really enjoyed watching you make the green pine cone syrup. I made my first batch of syrup using brown sugar and it’s delicious! Next batch I will make with granulated sugar. That lemonade idea is great! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge! ☮️💜
I need to try this 😊 .. It's so many yars since I last tasted syrup .. I use to love Lyle's golden syrup when I was a kid .. the green boxes withe a lion . I guess this will be a total different taste 😊
I know Lyle's golden syrup!! We were always eating it when we were on holiday in England :) You can't buy it in the dutch supermarket so we always took some of the boxes home because it is so delicious :D!! yes this tastes totally different and really foresty :)
I've seen something similar on Malinowy Nos's channel, but I believe he used young stems instead of cones. You can turn the syrup into wine if you add approximately one part syrup to 6-7 parts water (depends on how much sugar you used) then ferment for a couple weeks and age. Haven't tried it myself yet but I wonder what it tastes like.
I would think that you could use needles or stems as well as the pine cones . I'm trying it today with the pinecones but I might do needles and stems as well separate
A very wonderful recipe, but if I put natural bee honey instead of sugar, the juice would be 100% natural and healthy. In any case, the idea is great and I liked it, thank you, I will try it with honey 💕🌹
I just made THIS yesterday, my pinecones are a bit larger, but I pretty much just like this ... I did cook the pinecones to peices and threw them to the squirrels ! Lol My question is, it's concentrated. But its real bitter ? Do I just pour it back adding more suger / water ? I have a lot of time invested and its a beautiful Amber color ! I did add a bit of honey w/lemon & bee pollen infusion 😁
Hey Kathy! Interesting. Maybe it's because your pinecones where bigger🤔. I guess when it's bitter you want to add more of the sweet and sour stuff to get a better balance. So maybe more sugar/honey and lime. Let us know how you fixed the flavour .😉😊
@@solarcyclestvshow Yes... That way it would give the mead a welcoming aroma of pine forests. But i could aswell use the syrup to some part to make a wine I guess.

Had to look up what molasses is and found this definition: "Molasses is the dark, sweet, syrupy byproduct made during the extraction of sugars from sugarcane and sugar beets." Since this pine cone syrup is based on the extraction of the pine cone flavour and has all the sugar added to it, it's not similar to molasses in which the sugar is extracted from the natural ingredient itself..😉
Guess you could. But I haven't tried to eat them personally. Doesn't really look like a delicious structure to eat.😉 I think it would taste quite intense.
I believe the pine cones that where used in this video are from scots pine trees. They are most common here in the Netherlands. ;) I'm sadly not a pine tree expert and I've never made anything with the white pine tree pine cones or the jack pine pine cones. I can't tell you for sure if it matters. The taste is probably slightly different... as long as the pine cones aren't toxic you can of course try it. I don't think the species are different to an extend that this recipe wouldn't work...but who knows.
Never heard of it, but it’s genius. I was just thinking the other week about how many little tips that we’ve lost as a society over the last 1-2 generations. There’s got to be so many things from cooking, cleaning, gardening, home cate, etc. It’s really sad.
Never tried to eat the green pinecones by itself. I don't think that would nice to eat. Of course you could make a spicy version as well. Just add some chili pepper for example ;)
Hey Jackie! Not entirely sure but it looks the same as the trees of here yes. We live in the Netherlands these trees grow here at the Moors areas. ;) I believe these kind of trees are wide spread though all across Europe/?the world?. 😉
I was hoping this would be a way to get sugar from nature, but it is just a flavoring. However, I have heard that the pine pollen is good food produced in large quantity.
I honestly don't know.. ;) I believe acorns have something toxic about them right? If I remember correctly ..only with the right preperation can acorns be eaten.
Yeah it's kind of the point of a syrup that's it's a sugary substance. ;) You could try and replace it by another sweetner such as honey. You shouldn't eat too much of it of course, but with these pine cones infused it has some health benefits.😉
I'm using your recipe today!!! I started it yesterday today I finish!! Ty for your video!
Just snagged some blue fir pine cones!!! Gonna make this, tysm

Awesome :D!! hope you like it ;)
I was surprised you used them whole; It seems the recipe would be more potent if they were cut open?
I will try with some coconut sugar instead I made a tea out of the cones it taste like forest but so bitter still I like it
I just buy ready syrup and I was wondering to watch how it made, thank you so much for sharing ^_^ I do really like the taste of it too

Can we use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar?
I think so yes! Though I've not tried it myself so not 100% sure...and of course it will affect the taste😉
Awesome! I only wish music was lower and your voice a little louder.
A friend of mine brings Pine Cone Schnapps to the USA from Austria . Do you know how that is made ?
We don't know how Schnapps is made, but sounds delicious :)
Can I first leave cones 24 hours in water than to boil? Thank you.
Possibly yes :) don't think that will do any harm. let me know if you tried it.

where are you?
Why did you put the spoon on the jar?
A metal spoon conducts the heat well and therefore ensures that the glass will not break when you pour in the hot syrup ;).
Is this the same as pine cone molasses?
Had to look up what molasses is and found this definition: "Molasses is the dark, sweet, syrupy byproduct made during the extraction of sugars from sugarcane and sugar beets." Since this pine cone syrup is based on the extraction of the pine cone flavour and has all the sugar added to it, it's not similar to molasses in which the sugar is extracted from the natural ingredient itself..😉
Can you eat the pinecones in this particular recipe?
Guess you could. But I haven't tried to eat them personally. Doesn't really look like a delicious structure to eat.😉 I think it would taste quite intense.
Does it matter what type of pan you use? Stainless steel ok?
I don't think it matters ;) stainless steel is great for cooking!
What kind of pinecones? White Pine, Jack pine? Does it matter?
I believe the pine cones that where used in this video are from scots pine trees. Am I the only person on here that didn’t know the metal spoon trick so that the glass doesn’t break when you pour something boiling hot into it?
Never heard of it, but it’s genius. I was just thinking the other week about how many little tips that we’ve lost as a society over the last 1-2 generations. There’s got to be so many things from cooking, cleaning, gardening, home cate, etc. It’s really sad.
I’ve heard of this when you pour hot liquid over ice in a glass cup, but I think it’s not true. 😊
Maybe it could be sweetened without sugar, using a natural sweetener, like stevia.
I've been making pine needle teas for awhile.
How do you do it? I'd love to know, please. Thanks in advance!
Late reply, but since sweetener (also used stevia) is not the same as real sugar it left my syrup tasting sour! Real sugar is the way to go

Do you eat the green Pine Cone too? Just asking_ and can you make it spicy too?
Never tried to eat the green pinecones by itself. I don't think that would nice to eat. Of course you could make a spicy version as well. Just add some chili pepper for example ;)
You can make candied pine cones but eating them raw would be tough, to chew and digest but also the resinous taste is intense for some people.
Are these scots pine cones?

Oh yes that would have been nice. 😉

Can I do this with acorns instead? I hate pinecones with a burning passion because of trauma.
