Exactly! I felt the very same. I always think to myself "ah, their daemons are in their pockets in some rodent form. " But I guess we can't blame the producers. They simply outdid themselves by creating such beautiful CGI effects with a limited budget.
The problem I have with the first episode is that the daemons are never present during the conversations, reacting, expressing the characters emotions as they speak... How can your soul not be present during a conversation... Sometimes they are flying away from their humans when the humans are talking...
Pan is present when Lyra receives the Alethiometer - he's on the table as a snow ermine. Granted, you don't see the Master's daemon, but I think there's a reason for that. They wouldn't have to do much more than follow their humans around, or sit on their laps, or just hang around near them, and it'd make the difference between characters less striking (like in the courtyard scene at 2:33 where the only animal on screen is Stelmaria, even though there are 6 other people).
HeyIt'sBaert there is no size limit per se in the book and in respect the show, but it’s a practical thing. The bigger your daemon is the harder to move around. For example, in the book a man had a dolphin daemon and he was unable to ever leave the ocean.
next time you see the spooky evil black guy with his snake slithering around his shoulder, just think, theres a hipster standing behind him dragging a toy on a stick around his shoulder XD
My reply was that, no matter how cleverly he might present his paradoxes, he would never make me believe a mechanical puppet can be more graceful than a living human body. He countered this by saying that, where grace is concerned, it is impossible for man to come anywhere near a puppet. Only a god can equal inanimate matter in this respect. This is the point where the two ends of the circular world meet.
The show: Daemons are the conscious and always with them Me:Where are the daemons? And why dont the daemons try to physically stop their humans? It's not like their inside their bodies.
Another version, not the second movie 😊 the sequel of the golden compass got cancelled after too much backlash so they've adapted it into a series haha
@@matzakatten The Magisterium is an actual thing within the Catholic Church so they boycotted it (Or at least complained enough for the makers to take notice) and they decided it would be better to not make the sequels and risk further backlash. Due to the inherently anti religion implications that were present in both the books and movie. It also received poor reviews because critics branded that the script was "awful" and it failed on quite a few different fronts when it came to adapting the books. Basically the Church was angry and people didn't much like it in a nutshell. Apparently it did rather well overseas but it's downfall was targeting it to the US market which is much more religious than other parts of the world. I'm not sure why they decided to make a second adaptation but it's been in the works for a few years now ^^ I first remember hearing about the prospect of it in 2015/2016? This looks so similar the Golden Compass. (Not surprising, considering they're the same story) but even the people look similar to the actors in the movie and the cgi was also really good in the movie as well. The format for the books will work better in a TV show format. Movies are too ambitious for most book series as they have more niche audiences. Films need to satisfy a lot of different people and can't have too heavy a story. They're also too short. I'm looking forward to watching this series.
Yeah, but one thing was consistently better...in the movie they had the budget to give everyone their daemon, thus staying close the source material. It quite frustrating to read about, for example, the servant's dogs and then not seeing even a paw on screen. "they hide in their pockets or hair"? Well, no they don't. The servants had dogs, same has the witch all having flying daemons. It's lore, it's part of the worldbuilding and if you don't have the budget to produce it, you shouldn't.
Yes, this is the BTS Dæmon for the TV show. Golden Compass/Dark Materials, same thing, I think Dark Materials is the whole trilogy's title. Like how the first book was Northern Lights in the UK and Golden Compass in the US, I think.

They wouldn't have to do much more than follow their humans around, or sit on their laps, or just hang around near them, and it'd make the difference between characters less striking (like in the courtyard scene at 2:33 where the only animal on screen is Stelmaria, even though there are 6 other people).
They've all been relatively small. Is there a size limit for the daemons?
HeyIt'sBaert there is no size limit per se in the book and in respect the show, but it’s a practical thing. The bigger your daemon is the harder to move around. For example, in the book a man had a dolphin daemon and he was unable to ever leave the ocean.
@@rebeccasillman3893 Interesting. Thanks for the info!
next time you see the spooky evil black guy with his snake slithering around his shoulder, just think,
theres a hipster standing behind him dragging a toy on a stick around his shoulder XD
Next great show!!
2:38 you can't see it through the bottle LOL
My reply was that, no matter how cleverly he might present his paradoxes, he would never make me believe a mechanical puppet can be more graceful than a living human body.
He countered this by saying that, where grace is concerned, it is impossible for man to come anywhere near a puppet. Only a god can equal inanimate matter in this respect.
This is the point where the two ends of the circular world meet.
One of the symbols on the alethiometer is a marionette.
This is the movie that has my favorite cgi animals besides Jurassic World
Does everyone have one? Because I only ever see one or two
In Lyra's world and many others, everyone has one. Of course, in the video they just focused on the most relevant dæmons.

DRnotz The dragons ate up the budget. A lot of viewers wanted the direwolves to have more screentime, but Daenerys' blind followers won.
Why couldn't Game of Thrones have done this for the Direwolves?
The show: Daemons are the conscious and always with them

Wait, so this series is basically like The Golden Compass?
Yes it’s based off the same book
Wait is this movie the second movie of The Golden Compass??? (Or just another version?)
Another version, not the second movie 😊 the sequel of the golden compass got cancelled after too much backlash so they've adapted it into a series haha
@@kadekelly4478 Why did it get backlash? It was a beautiful movie, better then this series...
(I can't really remember how long ago) but yeah :)
@@kadekelly4478 Okay, I understand...I always wondered why the second movie never came out...and I'm sad that they will never make a second. But I guess I will give this series a chance!:)
What about the mufelas
Yeah, can't wait for the next series to see what they did with the other worlds!
Technically it's mulefa, which Is already plural. One singular creature is called zalif ;)
I'm really looking forward to that part too. Hopefully, they include them! We'll see!
Still strange to see æ being used in the word 'demons'. Like it's so close to how I'm used to reading it 'dæmoner' , but just not quite. (danish seems to be the only language, where you use æ i relation to demons)
It's weird to see it in a english title and show, cause most countries don't have æ in their alphabet.
@@Lavender.films02 true I guess XD
I wish my Daemon is a Silverback Gorilla so he can beat anyone who pissed me off. But as an introvert and lazy person, my Daemon maybe just a Sloth.
Now I'm wondering what my daemon would be...XP
This just reminds of the golden compass
Tamera C It’s based on the same books. The Golden Compass is the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy.
@@HiyuMarten I didn't know that! Thanks for telling me
My daemon is a blobfish.
Is anyone's daemon a tardigrade? That'd be fun.
golden compass? this looks like one ..please educate me idk what i'm sayin
Yes, this is the BTS Dæmon for the TV show.
Golden Compass/Dark Materials, same thing, I think Dark Materials is the whole trilogy's title.
Like how the first book was Northern Lights in the UK and Golden Compass in the US, I think.
Finally X23 talks
If y'all had daemons, what form do you think yours would settle as???? :)
According to the official test I took at the time the film was released, a hare.
@JustASnowLeopard nice~
