Really Love the King Palm. Can they cope with windy conditions in winter ? What type of soil do they prefer? When 7G , how should they be cared for, outside ? Lastly, is that a bourgainvilla besides your kings ?
Perhaps try a kentiopsis oliviformis? They look fairly similar and these are bulletproof where I live. They can handle cold down to -5*C pretty well, at least here in Florida.
G'day there. I know you said that the king palms dont grow in your city, but i couldnt quite catch what city you live in. And one more question, how often do you get frost? Cheers mate You've done good
Thank you. Kings grow here despite many people saying they won’t. I’m proving them wrong. We get to 25 degrees every 10 years or so. Depending on the microclimate
Given that Royals are hardy here would the Alexander King survive in my climate? If you could list a couple other cool palms that I could zone push here that would be awesome
Can you grow Majesty Palm in good Microclimates in your area Gregg? If not it would be cool if you experimented with them. Think they are hardier than given credit for. Mine saw 24f for a brief moment im the night, but pulled through even though the spear pulled It is recovered today.
It’s a gorgeous palm when it’s growing well but it needs tons of water and fertilizer and good here to look really good. Most of the time in the Bay Area, you see them and they are windswept, yellow, and brown tipped. But the trunk is always beautiful. Yes we can grow them here.
@@ScaryHairyGary yes they need a ton of water here in the highlands of Mexico also as well as partial shade idieally. I live at 6500ft/1800m not too far from Mazatlan. When the humidity goes low here even desert palms get some sunburn. The high UV from the elevation probably does not help either. I got a question about Brahea Brandegeei. Are they hard to move once planted in the ground? I am talking about a really small specimen 1 foot total height or so I would like to move.
What a great palm species 🌴 👍🏼
Sounds like I need to watch your channel
very nice. thanks for sharing the info.
Great palms, many thanks for sharing!
These look great man!
What city and state did you say you were? When you planted then did you use any fertilizer, how wide and deep did you dig a hole?

Archonophenix is not classed as hardy, but Butia is if it’s a feather palm anyone is looking for Jubea is another worth researching.
I am Japanese.
My dream is to plant a palm tree in my garden.
In Tokyo, avocados and grapefruits can survive in winter, but king palms are tough.

He said 9a Lafayette, CA. I believe this is a zone 9b. I'm in Texas, zone 9b so I definitely have some confidence giving these palms a try.
So if you have king palms, does it mean that you can grow mangos as well? I'm in Moraga and want to grow mangos.
mangonut Try a Manila Mango. I get fruit on mine here in Los Altos. I have have several old groves of King palms as well.

What zone are you in? You're talking about the Florida Royal Palm?
Sadly I bed they’ve died by now with the crazy winter storms in 2020 & 2021
But I hope they made it
Did they survive the hard freeze feb 2021?
