  • This is basically a test run to try out my LED low & high beam replacement bulbs. It was about seven degrees Celsius when I started. I wasn't looking forward to the ride but in the end it was fun! Apart from the visor that got covered in crap. Nice to be out on the bike and putting some more miles on the clock! I'm up to about 360 miles at this point.
The main conclusions from the bulbs were:
    1) The low beam doesn't have a great cut-off line so it kinda fades into nothingness after a certain distance. It's better (brighter) than the original halogen bulb though. When buying an LED bulb, it's "elements" i.e. the chips should - as much as possible - match the size and position of the element in the original OEM halogen bulb you are replacing; after all the headlight housing is designed for a halogen bulb! I may need to research another LED bulb whose design is a better match for the OEM bulb. Or I may go HID.
    2) The main beam isn't very impressive either but still better than the OEM halogen. I think that is more due to the design of the high beam projector unit that BMW has used. I don't think there is much I can do about that. I need another ride in darker (and warmer) conditions to understand it better.

I just ordered a Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 LED bulb after seeing the beam pattern on another S1000R - it's simply amazing! They are pricey but IMO worth it for safe night riding. Look the bulbs up - lots of great feedback on that bulb and it should give you much more USABLE light vs the one you have in there now.

I hope the Morimoto works out for you! I think for the current (2014-2020) S1000R BMW should have put more time & effort into the headlight design. Even with the stock halogen I don't think the reflector design give a good beam pattern on dipped and main beam is a sad joke IMO 😡

@@RikkyTang 100% agree especially given the cost of these bikes, and considering other brands have been integrating OEM LED into their bikes in the same class (FZ09 comes to mind)

Do you think it’s better than original lights? I have a S1000RR 2019 and I’m thinking to upgrade to led, for a better view in the night rides.
Thanks for the vid bro, cheers from Mexico.

The LEDs are better but its still not great. The LEDs bulbs are not designed for the headlight reflectors so the pattern of light on the road is not perfect. Auxiliary lights are probably the better option if possible 😌

@@RikkyTang I’m agree with you, but. In S1000RR auxiliary lights looks awfully, I think the only bike looks good is in GS bikes, I’m still looking for a better illumination in my RR. Thanks for answer dude. Cheers ! ! !

On which device engine sound was recorded?

Well... it was recorded with both my helmet mic (wired to my smartphone) and my GoPro Hero 6 Black. Both audio tracks are in the video but there was buzzing from the Hero 6 inside its case at certain revs, so that sound is dialled down in the final video.
