I received my Avata on Monday and it being my first FPV drone but having owned a MA2 and Mavic 3 I was excited to use it to get those sick ‘FPV’ shots you can’t get with a normal drone. So you can probably guess I was very bummed to learn (after using the Motion Controller) that I basically bought a kit with training wheels I can’t remove without spending another $200 on another controller that’s currently out of stock. Sigh.
As much as I like this drone and really want it, I won't buy it until a proper controller comes with it for the price. The drone plus the new v2 goggles, an extra battery, and the proper two-hands controller puts this up near $2,000 USD in price. Yet if we are to save money and just use the motion controller, we don't have the full functionality of the drone; which also feels like a rip-off. I think it's very misleading of DJI to advertise this drone with so much content from influencers all using the larger controller, only to quietly leave out that it's not included. I do appreciate Matti's review of the motion controller to really test out how customers will most often experience the drone, but till a proper controller is added I'd rather have a Mini 3 pro for half the price, a much longer battery life, under 249g in weight, and a proper controller.
I feel like the complete package requires both but DJI doesn't offere a complete package because there is another function only a few mention which is the head motion control with the motion controller but I think only Roter Riot demonstrated this. That feature of being able to control the camera by looking around and and panning and tilting with the motion controller seems like a big deal for some creative cinematography!
@@mattih No one could blame you creators but I love this video and it makes a valid point about newb ability I know a lot of people who destroyed the OG FPV within a day. Now we need another video about the head motion controls in the new goggles please?!
@@OverTheTopLive Yea, I tried the motion control on the new goggles 2 and found you have to turn your head in the direction you want to go, but not just tilt left or right, but you have to turn around and face the other direction to come back with the drone. Like others, wish we all would have gotten the right controller and at the very least this is the 1st time buying a drone that came with no carrying case that DJI now wants to jack all its customers another $129 bucks I think for it.

I say its a plus that they included the easier controller, and once people become accustomed to FPV, they can buy the other controller
I have to agree. I’ve got the avata the first day, and since I’ve not been able to get the normal remote controller (out of stock) everywhere, I’ve been using the motion controller and I’m surprised how accurate it is. I’ve also been practicing in drone simulator (liftoff) for around 20 hours and even though now I can do cool stuff must of those ticks I don think I wanna try at least right now with the real drone. Definitely I’ll be using the motion controller for interiors and the normal controller to have fun outdoors
Having NEVER flown a drone at all (zero interest in drones).... a motion controller would be pivotal for me to save me the hundreds of dollars I paid for the drone... it looks quite easy for a beginner to fly and I would never use a regular controller. Well done to DJI for making fpv drones accessible to everyone, especially beginners.
I have an fpv with both controllers, the motion is sometimes fun to use, but its such a great way to let friends or family fly the drone easily. Plus you can still fly it in sports mode with it
It’s easy and with this controller it seems like anyone can fly a dji avata however if you want to fly on manual mode with the motion controller is a completely torture and it’s easier for you to crash
Planning to buy a DJI. Wondering if Mini3 pro and Avata can be launched from a apartment balcony? Would it RTH back the the balcony? Kinda thinking it may not considering how gps works? How about an open terrace?
I just got it yesterday and I did pretty well. My 17 year old did as well, both with the motion controller. I did hit some leaves in a tree, but it didn't crash. I was also chased by a hawk, but luckily it didn't catch the drone. I did lost connection twice, which I was not happy with, especially considered the drone wasn't only a few houses away. I haven't reviewed the footage I took yet either. Not sure why it doesn't save to my phone like it used to. My Air 2 stopped doing that as well
I thought the motion controller is better than most people think, especially for newbs. I was shooting gaps with in a minute unlike when i first started full acro/manual with my other drones. This being said, it doesn't "dive" or pitch fast enough unlike a traditional fpv drone. Can we use this setup for professional work, yeah i think so but i feel its easier with a controller.
Thanks for the review of the Motion Controller, very few have. I have been flying my Air 2 and now my Air 2s and Mini 2 for about 2 years. My flying partner and I both got the Avata, delivery on Friday. He does not want to use Manual ever but I do and so after getting used to the Motion Controller and hours on the Sim I am going to start flying, that is after I get the Controller. Thanks for the inspiring review
Never wanted to try fpv until Avata. It’s a smart choice they made the Motion Controller as part of the combo for this fpv drone as it’s much more beginner friendly it seems.
Yep. I thought you can fly in normal, sport, and manual mode with regular controller. Video makes it seem that only manual mode is available with the normal controller. Very misleading.
How do you learn to fly FPV drones without going straight to the 'expert' controller and crashing a few times? Genuine question as I've never flown a drone but would like to get one and go the FPV route...
The original controller with the first fpv is just as easy because you can fly it in normal mode, then sport mode the when fully ready you can throw it in Manuel mode os either way, still feel the first remote is way better for the fact that you can switch modes. The motion controller is defiantly for beginners .
I find it funny after this being out for a year, people still don't know how to work it. It even shows you how in a small training session before you actually fly for the 1st time. You don't turn it left or right. You tilt it left, right forward and back to get it to do what you want. tilt left - go left, tilt right - go right and so on. I do find using it, that it seems to take more to when you want to rise and descend with the controller you have to go forward and back much twice as much to get it to do the same action tilting left and right. Pity there isn't an adjustment for that. Avata works pretty good with the motion controller, but it is no replacement I can tell for the controller 2. It is however; a lot of fun.
Thanks for sharing this, as I also looked and couldn't find it anywhere... Does DJI even have it listed on their site? To me it looks like it's not even an option to buy it separately, but maybe I just missed it.
Well I have the controller so you would probably be best just selling me the avata. Haha. I’m in the same boat I have the controller but can’t just buy the avata separately without waiting for god knows how long.
Can i connect the goggles also to a monitor or tv so i could also see what he's seeing? and can i use 2 goggles in one drone so the other one can be the passenger?
Id really like to see the motion controller software available as a mode on the sticks controller. as a semi autonomous training aid for people wanting to build skill and move into FPV.
All the testing I've seen no one show the controller in the factory setting when the left stick is auto centered. Am I missing something like you cant put the drone in normal mode with the controller or is that something creators are forgetting to mention.
I was thinking about buying this drone as a beginner and your video really helped me a lot. Could you please also share an actual footage from a flight with motion controller? FPV shot looks amazing but also comparing the footages while flying with normal controller and motion controller can be really helpful for people like me. Thank you so much.
So if you want to get into FPV Is this still a good option to start with? Especially when you graduate to utilizing a full controller instead? Or is there better cheaper alternatives for initially starting?
@@mattih Fair enough. 🤣One UA-camr was able to use it to circle around things which was really cool as many said it wasn't possible with the Motion Controller. I'd like to circle a parked car for example.

My theory is they made a TON of these for the original FPV and they just sat around, so they decided to pack them in with this drone to move them out of inventory, and they’ll eventually start selling it with the normal remote.
your going to want to make the leap to the controller. It still has train wheel modes. Just set it to full fat mode and hammer the sim for a few hours first. you always have the safety net of the brake button
Thanks for great and inspiring videos ... strongly consider to buy Avata after watching this vidio ..... Seem motion controller is great for horizontal motion, but can also be used for moving vertically?
First video I am watchig on your channel dude, really love the spirit, and really great content as well. Got a new sub right here. Thanks for introducing Avata to us
The motion controller is great for people with only one working hand so now they can fly a drone. Can't wait for my friend's son to try a drone. Even playing VR games, we have to find a game that just needs one controller for him to play. Nintendo Switch games which needs only one motion controller is what he plays the most.
I slightly disagree. I believe that you may have been able to get those shots with the motion controller. I got the Avata on launch date, and from out of the box I was getting some slick shots and maneuvering with the controller. I think that It may take some time and firmware updates as well. For instance, I'm not sure how to do a roll with the motion controller, or reverse (if that's even possible). I also don't think that it will EVER give you as much control as the FPV remote, but it does a pretty good job, and the concept (point and pull) is very intuitive. My $.02
Question:- how long does it take to charge a single battery with the standard charger vs the charging hub? Good video to understand the difference between the controllers.
Well, one thing for sure. You have nailed why DJI is only shipping the RC controller in the most expensive combo. Most of us (nom FPV pilots) will not need it. Honestly, the flight scenes with the motion controller are already awesome. Question: Can you explore more on the motion controller when diving , flying in circle around a subject or even flying backwards? Thanks
Thank you for your inspiration man - love your videos. Just miss one thing in this video - and that is the info that with the motion controller, you fly in normal drone mode and sport mode - that is the reason that you can´t do flips and stuff. with the motion controller you can´t go into manual mode. And with a normal contoller you could fly the drone in normal and sport mode to - with help from gps. You don´t need to use it in manual - even if that is so much more fun when you have learned it in the simulator first :) Really want my hands on such a drone soone, with normal controller in full manual. thanks man.
Will be flying FPV for the first time in a few hours. The Avata with Integra goggles, Motion and FPV controller (both 2) will be arriving in a few hours. Have been flying regular drones for a year.

This is exactly the video I was looking for. A deep dive on that stick
It actually is like the oculus, have you tried activating the head tracking feature in the goggles 2?
Yeah, no reviewer is actually doing the research. Is completely different experience with the head tracking feature on!
@@cf2671 not true. Potato jet player with that mode in his review.
@@cf2671 I've seen only one reviewer actually review this feature out of hundreds that I've watched
@@michaelmelvin6155 yeah saw it too. But most of reviewers haven’t.
@@PerryPlatapussi same. Sad, cause is a great feature. I was playing around and is pretty good.
Does anyone know if you can get video output from the Goggles 2? So a director can watch what's being shot?
I purchased it as a complete noob in FPV. (I have a Mavic Pro too) and I am so glad that the motion controllers comes with it. Its brings FPV style flying to everyone. So even my mom can expierence it. However I hope I can order soon the controller because I want to learn flying in manual mode.
Vende ese mavic pro esta viejo ya
Wait so can you not put it in Manual mode with the motion controller? Because he was flying in normal mode the whole time
Nope you can’t fly manual mode with the Motion controller.
What controller is he using for total FPV control?
Did you use any filter?
Why does it say remote control stick error?
🤷🏼♂️
Nice video!! Waiting on mine, and this video was awesome for the suspense.
Thanks for introducing Avata to us
Hello
It's a pleasure 🎉to have you as my grand winner of a Dji mini 3 pro drone
Kindly contact the above username for acknowledgment
🎉🎉🎁
duuudddeee, is that footage out of the drone or reel steady
Should also note that the Avata is INCREDIBLY durable. A divebomb to the ground would scuff it probably, but not actually damage it.

Great video.. love the laughter and enjoyment you guys are having.. i think im going to buy one!!
The motion controller is great for people with only one working hand so now they can fly a drone. Can't wait for my friend's son to try a drone. Even playing VR games, we have to find a game that just needs one controller for him to play. Nintendo Switch games which needs only one motion controller is what he plays the most.
Thank god, someone finally said it. WHY DJII?????!!!!
My $.02
Great video! Your FPV video in Norway was incredible and inspiring, thanks
Question:- how long does it take to charge a single battery with the standard charger vs the charging hub?
Good video to understand the difference between the controllers.
Takes about 20-30 min for me on a 65w charger
Well, one thing for sure. You have nailed why DJI is only shipping the RC controller in the most expensive combo. Most of us (nom FPV pilots) will not need it.
Honestly, the flight scenes with the motion controller are already awesome.
Question: Can you explore more on the motion controller when diving , flying in circle around a subject or even flying backwards? Thanks
You can’t dive, roll or flip with the motion controller. The motion controller doesn’t have manual option like the FPV remote does

You don´t need to use it in manual - even if that is so much more fun when you have learned it in the simulator first :)
Really want my hands on such a drone soone, with normal controller in full manual. thanks man.
The experience watching Tyler was so much fun ! Would love to see his progression LMAO
Sphincter tightening!!!!!!! Great job Tyler!!!!
Will be flying FPV for the first time in a few hours. The Avata with Integra goggles, Motion and FPV controller (both 2) will be arriving in a few hours. Have been flying regular drones for a year.
Thanks for the video you just convinced me on getting it with the motion controller , I am just like Taylor, no experience flying FPV.
