    Thanks for being humble enough to share the unedited manual mode footage. Not a lot of people would be willing to do that. It shows both how talented professional operators are, but also how well DJI designs the normal mode function for complete amateurs to be able to fly too. Great video.

    Man! I have NOT been flying as much as I should & I certainly have not been following my favorite UA-camrs…like you. Life! I purchased my Avata in December of 2023 and upon delivery, it remained in my office unboxed! UNTIL this week when a Client, who knew my love of drones, in general, brought his Avata for me to pilot! First of all, who has better Clients than me?!? I was immediately hooked. So, I unboxed my Avata today no returned to trusted voices , like yours, to learn how to fly this gem. Thanks as always & hope that all is well with your wife!

    Really Great Video! - - You as a content creator showed what the Non-FPV world needed to see, and very honestly done. - - The Avata is certainly going to open FPV flying to whose that don't have the time to focus on the various disciplines it takes to fly FPV. "Thank You, DJI!" - - You had asked "How many times do you think I crash while learning?" my bet is around 200... keep in mind, you, lost count. I help beginners, and I tell each from the start "It's better to crash your first 100 times in a simulator, than crash three times with what you just built, or the per-built you just bought. - - I'm going to buy the Avata full bundle for my Wife. Shes 63 years of age. Over the last few years she has really tired to learn to fly my smallest of drones without full success. After seeing your video we are both in agreement, for her as a semi-beginner, this is the way to reach her goal of feeling herself flying. - - Insurance would help, and I do recommend that most beginners purchase the insurance as well. - - And one last thought... I would like to say that learning and mastering FPV is Not an inexpensive hobby, and believe it or not, I can tell you that the Avata system makes it seriously cheaper and appears to be full proof.

    I've been watching you for years Russ, and didn't realize you hadn't taken the FPV plunge yet. Glad you have done it now. Next time you try manual go up a couple of hundred feet and be ready to hit the pause button if things get out of control. Great info! I'm guessing 19 crashes so far.

  • @MindRiderFPV

    To practice manual, lock the camera and don’t try to hover, it’s the hardest thing. Just fly straight and turn, the higher the camera angle the faster you will go, because you will tend to align the horizon as you fly. Start low, almost zero angle and fly a path. When turning you need to yaw too. Normally in FPV you fly with throttle and Yaw son the left, with no spring return. Pitch and roll on the right with spring return to center.

    • @mattalford3932
      @mattalford3932 9 місяців тому

      There's no need to lock the camera when flying the avata. It has a gimble. It will remain level with the horizon no matter what angle the avata is flying

    I'm still confused how you can fly these without a visual observer, though. How is this legal when I cannot fly my Mavic out of sight?

    • @Tphive
      @Tphive 2 роки тому

      It isn't legal. In the US the FAA requires a visual observer for any FPV flights. There are wavers you can get, but it's also the rule that people bend the most. Many UA-camrs just keep their observer off camera though.

That and I didn't have DJI refresh. I can't wait until it gets here. I'll use the FPV model for long range stuff and the Avata for yard cruises and tight spaces.

    Awesome video, Russ, as always. I just ordered one of these for myself. I already fly FPV, but only tiny whoops and analog so far. Which brings me to my comment: thanks for not “soft-pedaling” how difficult FPV actually is. The really great FPV video out there is done by folks who are really expert pilots. These people fly a LOT and their skills stay polished, as opposed to those of us who got into drones to do cinematic video and aerial photography. Going into Manual mode on either this or the older DJI FPV drone is not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, DJI has made the Avata user “fixable” so that helps a lot. I’m very much looking forward to your in-depth videos on the Avata to come. Thanks. You are my go-to source for reviews and drone info so keep ‘em coming, please. A lot of us folks count on you.

I’m a candidate for the Avita but I prefer the long range transmitter. I’m thinking about waiting 6-12 months so that DJI can work out any “issues” with the earliest customers.

    i have a DJI spark with a 4 hawks antenna. Been flying since around 2018. I really like the GPS to find my way back . at least 10 times i would have lost the Spark while flying from a river bank for instance coming back up river it all looks the same. of course hearing the drone helps too as it approaches. Does the Avata have GPS. how far can you fly , what happens when you fly out of range and the Avata disconnects. Does the Avata us WiFi or RF. Does the Avata have RTH. not a big fan of prop guards i ran my spark into the top of 2 180 foot tress...the Spark fell through to the ground, yes it was damaged BUT I got it back. . I always thought prop guards would insure the drone would snag on a branch...whats your take on that? I do like those FPV's you build like Black Sheep Squadron where they use RF controllers and fly for miles AND BEHIND buildings.....thanks for the Video very professional always enjoy your videos. I really like drones. I cam from an era there was none of this I took analog electronics in HS. One day our teacher gathered us in classroom part and said there is this new company called Intel....they make something called a Microprocessor he went on to draw square waves on the black board to show a zero or a 1......i leaned over to the guy next to me and said..that will never catch on.😃

    Congrats Russ, great video! Well done on the detailed breakdown. Such a shame that the standard controller is not included in the box. I think DJI have really missed a trick here, however it is available to purchase separately. I'm a traditional GPS drone pilot here in the EU at the moment, I have now put about 35 hours in to the "Simulator" game called LiftOff FPV on Steam. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to get at least this amount of time, if not more in a Simulator before starting in manual mode.

      I have a really hard time flying my camera drones now because of all the time I'm spending on Liftoff and DRL in acro mode lol. I'm more afraid of crashing my camera drone now because of the muscle memory I'm building on the sim hahahaha

      @@SkeezyFPV lol yeah I know the feeling. It takes a few minutes to get used to the Mini 3 Pro again after flying FPV for hours in the Sim. Keep up the practise though! 💪

    Great vid Russ, for flying manual height is your friend so put it way up and if it goes pear shape just hit the panic button or flick it into Sport or Normal that's how I learned with the DJI fpv

    One other question is that does this drone have a “night light” (a light on the bottom of the drone for when it is night time)

    Congrats on getting the new Avata FPV drone, you really seemed have a lot of fun flying that thing. Great video, you really make a strong case for this drone. Thanks for sharing.

    Great video. Does the Avata need to be FAA registered? Is it over the half pound?

    Great video. Why are you so determined to fly in manual mode with the FPV controller? Isn’t the new single controller much easier and more effective? What does manual mode do that the “stick” doesn’t? I’m a traditional GPS drone user, but I would assume the FPV experience is different and works better with a controller that leans into the first person experience.

    It’s a great drone for someone with a disability, like a loss of an arm! Never thought I would ever be able to fly a drone again! Love the motion controller! One thing I do hope DJI Does is give the user the choice to have full Speed, like in manual mode, at users own risk, like if you were in Manual mode! This drone is a game changer for a person like myself but really hope DJI gives us the Choice of Full Speed or close for the ones who can only use the Motion Controller! Love this Drone!! Please DJI give us the option for using it to full speed or faster then sport mode!

    When do you think DJI will make goggles for DJI Air2S or another GPS drone so we can see like FPV but have standard GPS drone.

    For the Mavic 3 and run the DJI FLY App, which tablet does you recommend, taking into account the bright screen so we can fly in the sun and others. Thank you.

    I feel like DJI messed up on pricing if this is meant to get ppl into fpv

    Excellent review!!! Excellent flow and I love that I can watch your videos with my grandkids (4, 6, 8, & 10 years) in the room! I didn’t want the motion controller at first but it may be perfect until I get my trigger thumb (actual medical condition) corrected. I would venture to guess you crashed 12 times.

    Curious, can Avata be used in say commercial work, like home inspections? Or in automunous work like mapping? I would guess not because of shot flight time.

    just a quick question - while using the full manual mode, did you change the left stick to manual?

    I reserved just the quad this morning as soon as I got the notification from DJI lol. I bought the DJI FPV Combo last week for $840 after discounts so I don't need the controller or goggles, just the quad. I think $625 is a steal honestly. I can't wait to get mine. I've got a bit of time in with the goggles now and interestingly enough I've had no motion sickness problems whatsoever. I have a lot of experience running night vision goggles and I think it translates over to the fpv. My goal for 2023 is to adapt an fpv quad to run with a PVS-14 night vision monocular for some spectacular night footage lol. Back to the Avata though; maybe it's not for the hobbyist that like to do home builds. I'm not that guy. I plan on using this professionally and to me time is money. Yes you can get an analog cinewhoop for less money. You aren't going to get an equivalent digital cinewhoop for $625. And you won't get 10-15 minutes of flight time. To me, time is money. it takes a long time to get a homebuilt quad up in the air and if you value your time the same as what you could be bringing in working you are looking at $500-1,000 just in labor to build your drone besides the $400 in parts required. I just hope the drones are available by themselves soon so I can get that bird in the air!!!

    Great video! Yes manual mode requires a lot of practice and it also changes a bit from one drone to another. Dedicated time for training is the only way but most of us don’t have that luxury
