Yes, I’ve ran into this same issue several times. Unfortunately there’s no way for DJI to fix it. The reason is because the motors have a much lower voltage than the remote outputs. So when you max out on the remote the motors can’t take all the input and freak out. This is also why DJI only sells the Avata with the motion controller. They didn’t have motors powerful enough for the size but still shipped it out and covered it up with a motion controller. I would not recommend this drone. Matti love the content. It’s amazing to see how far you’ve come. Much love! Will Peeler
It can be fixed in software. On more configurable drones, this is something called dynamic idle. If the motor doesn't spin down that slow in the first place, it will not stall.
@@TuckerPearce he doesn't since his comments don't even have any basis in reality for electronics. The voltage output from the controller? What the hell is that, just a moron comment
@@Audi1Pete it's likely too low of an idle, and this can be addressed in software or esc config. there's no reason they can't provide a software fix for this.
I think a company such as DJI which is always implementing and wanting to improve would appreciate the honesty. If they take it, learn from it and fix it, it showcases a company that is not afraid to fail and take a hit for future progress.
Matti at 8:54 you mentioned the first DJI fpv losing control. That’s from the GoPro interfering with the gps module on the back/top. If the drone doesn’t have a gps connection then it assumes you’re in a no-fly zone (hence the lack of lateral movement options). It’s also a known issue and the work around is no GoPro mounted unfortunately…
@@mattihI’m dealing with this right now too, trying out different mounts to maybe find a workaround (no luck yet). Had my fpv auto land 3ft from the edge of a lake last week, it was scary
I believe that is incorrect, it happened to me last year when I got my drone and I didn't have any GoPro or anything else on it and I still see it happening to people a year later and DJI as usual just ignores these issues.
I've had the DJI FPV do the no lateral movement thing to me and I didn't have a GoPro or anything on it, just flying it as it came. I hope DJI fixes this soon because it makes me not want to fly it!
This happened to me as well! It is when you are turning and you lose control. The balance in the drone sucks and when you turn to hard with even a bit of wind it happens. Its happened lots to me.
I have the exact same problem, but mine just goes full throttle upwards, completely randomly! No control possible anymore at all! 4 times I crashed it hard because I was flying inside and one time it went up to 500 meters when I was outside. Because the battery almost died it did a return to home. But we had to catch it with our hands because you can’t control it anymore. It won’t land. I find this a super unsafe drone and I’m sending everything back to DJI.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sound arrogant, but Matt, if you're using manual mode, you need to make the turns with both stickers to the side, to apply tangency, if you just turn the sticker on the right, the drone will end losing support and falling, think that it is the same to make a curve with an indy car, the curve needs to have an angle so that it does not go off the track, applying the speed they usually run, different from the f1 car, which is needed decrease to make the turn, because it is straight, if you accelerate, it will go out, in the case of the drone, without it having this curve tangency, it will "roll over" in the air and turn upside down, losing the support, consequently falling... Follow fpv pilots who put the image of the control in the videos, you will see that a curve is normally made with the two sticks directed to the side you want to turn
I don't think it's a bug as much as it's a desync or power issue. It seems to happen when you do a quick yaw turn and the front motor can't handle the ramp up in speed and shuts off.
This has been talked about a lot, its because your taking a sharp turn. I thought they came out with an update that fixed it but I havent looked into it
Glad you’re vlogging about this, hopefully it’ll help get DJI’s attention. Hard to tell from video, but does appear you were in a bit of a yaw turn just prior to crash. Not sure it’s safe to say it happened completely randomly. These crashes seem to be induced by yaw turns, so just a heads-up flying your other ones. Hope it’s resolved soon m8!
We should open a class action. It is not safe, it happens often especially if you fly in manual mode at high speeds. This bug happens everytime the drone makes a washout especially going forward and then turning fast to go backward, in the moment you do that the drone flip side down directly to the ground for 10 meters at high speed, becase it accelerate itself, and you press the emergency button or no matter what you try to do the drone do not respond to the commands, it starts responding you only after a few seconds or meters, and if you are too close to the ground, it is too late, it will crash.
This isnt a problem with the avata as much as its a problem with the way people fly it. Reality is its a cinewhoop and it has limitations just like any other cinewhoop. The crash happens when the motor is overloaded which would be either of the front 2 motors. You're already ripping and then try to make a hard yaw movement that overloads the motor to the point where it cant keep up and just gives up. Some cinewhoops are better than others but overall this is a normal thing on a platform like this. Especially with underpowered motors and mavic bros who don't understand the performace of fpv drones.
Some people are saying this is what happens with cinewhoops in high speed turns... my Flywoo Cinerace gets some prop wash but it doesn't fall out of the sky it just corrects itself
