Lancer in this game is one of the few times in my life where I opened up training mode, and within two minutes was thinking "I think this character is completely busted" and then when I looked up the actual tier lists he was actually that broken.
26:24 About Kirei and Rin has similar movesets. Yeah it's pretty clear that because Rin was taught by Kirei when she was young after event of Zero, plus that martial art is Bajiquan that Kirei practices (or merely imitates his father). This details also apply to FGO so that Rider Ishtar-Rin, Rasputin-Kirei, Sessyoin Kiara (for some reasons) and the master himself Li Shuwen all has Bajiquan attacks.
Yeah that’s why I pointed it out, I love the attention to detail. They do something similar in Type Lumina with Shiki and Aoko, they have similar looking kick attacks (which doesn’t make much sense when you think about it because in canon Shiki only ever met her twice and she didn’t train him or anything like rin and Kirei).
nice breakdown man a few things that are worth mentioning: 1. Most Supers in the PS2 and Arcade versions do not exactly scale like combo scaling, so the placement in a combo does not affect their damage. they simply do 50% damage after any hit. a 1 hit combo into Super will weaken the Super just as much as a 100 hits combo. 2. Archer isn't just a better Shirou in the game. Archer is mainly more defensive and well-rounded, while Shirou is more offensive and more focused on a Rushdown playstyle. especially with his Pressure. Shirou also throws projectiles faster in his zoning. 3. PSP version also nerfed the damage scaling down heavily, so you will deal less damage in a combo, especially a long one. probably the reason they buffed up all supers to always unscaled, and Grail Super to do more damage to compensate.
Super glad to see a video on this game in depth, I actually brought a physical setup for this game on my PS2 with a CRT TV pretty regularly to locals at one point but sadly very few ever actually played it with me. It's a really cool fighting game that meshes together such a bizarre blend of mechanics, both intended by the developers and not, and if you're a Fate/TM fan it's filled with such an incredible reverence for the source material in ways that I can't help but smile from. Honestly I really hope to see more videos in general on niche fighting games from you as I feel it really works well for you and allows games that normally get ignored to get more of a spotlight which is always good. I actually didn't know the whole detail of the rejected French Bread Fate fighting game but it sorta makes me sad, I feel like that would be really cool. Then again MBTL has had so many Fate reps that they'll be damned if they don't get their wish in some form lol. Truthfully I'd be fine with MBTL's roster sort of ending up in sort of a KOF style crossover situation where it's primarily Tsukihime but with reps all over Type Moon. The fact we got no Mahoyo reps after the rerelease is a god damn crime, Alice or Touko would be killer fighting game characters.
Honestly it’s hard to get people to show up a locals (myself included) let alone try a new game but respect to you for trying. Both this and melty have an insane amount of detail that just go over the average fighting game fan’s head. I honestly believe if you read Tsukihime you enjoy melty blood more, at least I did. I 100% going to do more videos on niche fighting games and this whole month, just gave me a ton of ideas for episodes. Also, I don’t think you’re too far off because while I suspect this is the end of fate characters in lumina I have a strong suspicion more type moon characters will be coming in the future like Ryougi and I’d be shocked if we didn’t get mahoyo representation. Especially considering the push it’s been getting Recently (English translation, anime, actually acknowledging that it’s supposed to be more than one part). It all really depends on what they wanna do with the game and I guess that’s connected to the remake as well so it’s all up in the air.
@@Drzuul Yeah unfortunately while it's gotten way better over the years than it used to be there are still small subsets of the FGC that tend to stigmatize certain games for being too old/too weeby/too poverty or what have you. It can be kind of annoying to deal with sometimes but it is what it is I guess, I did at least get a few people to play with me so as long as two people play a game it ain't dead lol. And yeah, I wholeheartedly agree on Tsukihime increasing the enjoyment of Melty. I played Melty years before ever reading the VN as just a general fan of fighting games, and I thought it was kinda fun and cool but it didn't completely click or resonate with me right away. But I feel way more appreciation for it having actually played the VN and Kagetsu Tohya proper. It honestly makes sense, the game was probably initially not made with the intent of having staying power among the general FGC as it was to just appeal to fans of the VN in Japan at the time, it just happened to be decently successful among fighting game players too for being a fun fighting game.

I really loved the special missions in mission mode in particular cause it usually was a reference to a plot point in FSN specifically. The one where you use Archer against Berserker with a permanently activated Unlimited Blade Works for example comes to mind.
Yeah those are the dramatic battles they’re great. They’ve got one where it’s saber and Shirou vs berserker, a direct reference to their fate route fight. Also rider’s ex mission is just her vs saber running up the sky scraper and you have to knock saber off it’s a little silly. The only little tidbit I could possibly add is unlike other Arcade Fighting Games (ex: GGXX series) where Console Exclusive characters are generally not Tourney legal until they are added to the arcade version, the community for FUC has always allowed the Console Characters in tournament.
It is pretty interesting because it seems like ps2 is tournament standard outside of Japan which just speaks to how incredibly faithful the port is. Also they cheat with saber Lilly because she’s a glorified costume. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

i always thought mbtl shielding was a simplified version of nitroplus's banishing guards, which also had saber in it of course. which basically is a shield that changes frame data to make everything minus on block, and neglect chip damage but can also allow some stuff such as multi hitting moves and dp to be cancelable meterless on block. basically allowed you to do anything you want off shield, though shield button usually won since you are plus, where as melty only let you choose 3 options. they even made the recovery frames, and no guard level changing, to balance it like nitroplus. I believe nitroplus didnt need patches to fix it since that game had a lot more options to bait and beat shields. quick correction, saber uses a long sword and not a saber. a saber is a 1 handed curved, usually single edged sword, with a hand guard that wraps around the front of the hand. she uses a 2 handed double edged sword, with a cross guard so its a long sword. kof also tried doing 2.5d with the maximum impact series. where it had 3d style punch kick combos, side stepping, combined with 2d style stuff. but i was too young to understand fgs, or remember if it was good.
I’ll talk about maximum impact one day that’s been on the list of games for this series since day 1. Always enjoy hearing about system mechanics from other games makes me want to play nitro plus. Fighting games are so simple in concept but it’s the deviations the developers take that make them interesting.
Great unlimited codes video and you mostly talked about everything besides the damage level with level 4 added in the psp version so holy grail moves do 10,500 at base which is most playable characters Hp Besides saber alter, kotomine and Hercules additionaly on that damage level Gilgamesh special holy grail attack against herc other then playing a different animation does his exact Hp amount. And archer hg move is the only one that bazzet can counter funny enough because his doesn’t need the grail. Last thing in the psp version there is a rin glitch that allows you to use super and holy grail moves that usually put her like other characters in a unique close up cutscene like luvia super that’s like a suplex not occur but the actual damage and the effects still does resulting in some funny combos like interrupting it with her holy grail move.
There were a lot of weird changes with the psp version. I honestly just expected it to be a regular port, but it’s more of a revision. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.
