  • Ocean’s 11 is a great franchise. But at the same time it’s mostly not a very good franchise especially when you take into consideration the 1960’s film on which everything is based. Even if Ocean’s 8 is the worst film the original Ocean’s 11 is still the worst film.

Not only was it bad when it was complete, it was horrible during production. The "11" were the Rat Pack (Sinatra, Davis Jr., Martin, Bishop and Lawford) and 6 regular actors. With the Rat Pack playing their gigs in the evenings, Sinatra told the director that only two of the Pack would be filming during the day, and since no one said "no" to Sinatra, the writer and director had to adjust on a daily basis since they didn't know who would be there to film, which is why a lot of the scenes are two guys in a hotel room and the script and story seem discombobulated at times.
Sinatra only liked making movies using one camera, he felt if there were two cameras he should be paid more since he wasn't paid to make two films... you can't make this up.

I've actually been in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve (twice). The thing I noticed is that if you're inside of a casino--especially if you're at one of the gaming tables--when midnight hits in Las Vegas, no one really acknowledges it. They don't just stop everything to sing "Aud Lang Syne" (sorry about the spelling). If they did, people would stop gambling, and they never want that to happen. The celebration is going on in the streets OUTSIDE of the casinos, but inside, they treat midnight, Dec. 31 the same as they do every other minute of the year ("keep dealing the cards and keep rolling the dice").

I both feel as though I watched the movie in these 20 minutes and enjoyed it far more than I ever would have if I had actually watched it. You guys are pioneering a potentially (not really) lucrative paraphrasing/commentary/synopsis of a movie business to save people time and get them more enjoyment than they would have if they wasted their time for the whole thing.
What's a terrible movie I could suggest....Main Street. You just need a Colin Firth or Orlando Bloom tie in.

For a long time in Hollywood, the bad guy(s) couldn't properly succeed, or at least they couldn't get away scot-free. That changed years later with flicks like "Day of the Jackal," but it might've been why they weren't allowed to get away with the money. Some kind of moral lesson and the idea that crime doesn't pay.

If there's one film that really shows you gangster life for what it is, that's "Goodfellas":
there's absolutely no honour among thieves in the film. The same thugs calling Henry "friend" one minute, will kill him the next for being a liability. And none of them care about anything other than the power and wealth coming from crime.

It's still entertaining ENOUGH (still sounds like you enjoyed yourselves despite it all), but it has an iconic pop culture credibility that is greater than the faults of Ocean's 11 as a movie.
