Finding out this movie has the SAME budget as JOHN WICK was a revelation I was not prepared for at all holy shit.
It doesn't surprise me. The actual Fast and Furious movies have an insane budget. I guess this type of movie requires a lot of investment

This is going to sound like a snide comment, but I really feel like this 17 minute breakdown is the best way to experience this movie. I actually find myself laughing at the gags and appreciate the way the actors actually tried compared to all the other parody movies these guys have made. But I know that if I actually watched the whole film I would just get bored.
It does flow pretty well actually considering they cover 5 or 6 movies worth of material and somewhat faithfully but some of the jokes they point out do drag on like the baby bit but others like the rock intro smacking things out of peoples hands never gets old.

Parody movies doesn't work anymore because UA-cam exist now
they can still work, but better when they are a parody of a genre rather than just one specific movie. But for it to work it requires actual effort.

Airplane will forever and always be the best.
Parody movies haven't worked for at least 40 years. Even as a kid I knew that Airplane was a terrible flick, but I think the enjoyment I got out of it was watching my folks laugh at it like it was the funniest thing ever. Seriously, Airplane is awful, and that's the best one out there.

I watched it a few months ago. It's bad. It's full of loads of dumb jokes that aren't at all related to the original movie.
Friedberg and Seltzer had nothing to do with Superhero Movie, which is why there's a considerable leap in quality compared to their films.
I remember liking it when it came out but I only saw parts of it and was only like 6
And I hadn't even seen x men and all these movies it parodies until like a decade later

Fun fact: friedberg and seltzer didn’t write scary movie at all, they just had a different spoof movie that got bought so its’ production could be stopped, and scary movie could proceed to production, hence why their names are on the end credits

The lady in the sandwich shop with me was talking in Spanish on the phone and for whatever reason his name came up and it stuck with me. idk if anyone pointed this out already but i love that James saying "John. Fucking. Wick." is synched up with the gunshots in the scene where all of Wick's gunshots are synched up with the background music. Mason saying "that's incredible" is just icing on top, Ben is a fucking ace.
The character doing Keanu is deeper than most people realize. Fast and Furious was a rip off of Point Break down to the director instructing Paul to mimic Keanus character in that movie.

Actually: they didn’t write Scary movie. They just wrote a draft on par with the shovel ware they produce now, and the studio purchased it so they could shelve that script and actually make a good film

I just want to say that Friedberg and Seltzer did NOT write the first Scary Movie, as you say. They WERE credited as writers on it, but it was them and four other people. The Wayans brothers were definitely the primary creative minds behind that movie, and I think it's been basically said outright at this point by the people behind that movie that Friedberg and Seltzer really didn't have much hand in what the final product ended up being. But they used that "clout" to market themselves as "two of the six writers of Scary Movie" for Date Movie and several others that they made. I know this is all coming off as incredibly nitpicky, but I just can't abide those two hacks being given more credit than they deserve in any context.

The actor that played the Vin Diesel type was so goddamned good in Barry.
I'm former military and worked with a lot of Marines in my time. That guy is the quintessential Marine. Just a fucking insane shock trooper with no thoughts, head empty.
There has never been a better performance of what a meat head marine looks like. The Marines is basically a bunch of dudes who buy in to the notion that they ARE a rifle mixed in with dudes that understand that that was supposed to be a metaphor. Hence Barry and Chris vs Taylor and Vaughn.
Nobody is terribly sharp in the bunch but one makes plans and the other yells Leroy Jenkins in a life or death scenario.

Pretty sure 9 million each went to the writer guys. About 1.8 million was mostly the cocaine budget, roughly 200k covered the actual production, salaries for actors and crew etc etc

Scary Movie is a classic to anyone who was a teenager around that time(at least where I'm from). It's nasty but it had some funny parts.

Holy shit, John Wick only cost $20M? And that's including Keanu Reeves's salary? That's some bang for your buck right there, if you'll pardon the expression.
If I remember correctly Keanu agreed a reduced fee because he is good friends with Chad Stahelski and really wanted to do the film, similar to how Bruce Willis took a massive pay cut from what he got in Die Hard to be in Pulp Fiction.

If your interested in watching another parody movie, "Not Another Teen Movie" would be a good one to watch. It's pretty entertaining. It parodies such movies as American Pie and She's All That.

The reason why a lot of their other movies later movies (before this) had so much dumb, seemingly unrelated pop culture references is because in many of those cases, the movie they're parodying hasn't come out yet, definitely not by the time they're writing the script. That's by design, because the studio wants their parody film to be out at the same time as the movie they're parodying. So most times, all they pretty much had is the concept, maybe a leaked script if they were lucky but I doubt it, and the trailers. That's why almost all the jokes that have to do with the movie are jokes about stuff you saw in the trailer. To fill all the rest of the time, they put in those pop culture jokes. The reason why this one felt less like that is because while they were trying to make the release date of Fast 7 or 8 or whatever, they had all the previous films, namely the first one which it seems most of this is based off, to do jokes off of, instead of just trailers.

In my opinion this movie is so bad it's actually pretty good, just like The Room but intentional. I genuinely laugh most of the time. They don't make unnecessary cameos and there are not much pop culture references. It's an honest movie with silly jokes. And nowadays that's refreshing.
