  • Student Doctor Cameron Smith- "Smartphone Thermal Angiography for Screening Carotid Stenosis: A Cadaveric Study". Student Doctor Cameron Smith grew up in various locales across the United States but made his way to the four states region for the pursuit of higher education. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Health Education at the University of Central Arkansas, Smith received his Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences through Kansas City University. After a brief gap year to serve as an adjunct college instructor of Anatomy and Physiology in the KC Metro Area, Smith started medical school at the Joplin campus. Since joining KCU-Joplin COM, Smith has been inducted into Sigma Sigma Phi, taken the lead on many research projects, and serves as the national liaison for the KCU-Joplin chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Furthermore, Smith prides himself in his advocacy for LGBTQIA+ representation in healthcare, serving as an active member of the Association of Out Surgeons and Allies and the LGBTQIA+ Affairs Committee of the American Medical Association. This fall, he will begin his clinical rotations in Michigan with the hopes of matching into vascular surgery and becoming a surgeon-scientist. Outside of academics, Smith enjoys traveling, kayaking, and experimenting with new pizza recipes.
