You guys nailed it. Shambles is the outro to Season 2 of the Anime Kengan Ashura. Kanami (lead guitarist, composer) and Miku (rhythm guitarist, lyricist) would be happy that you recognized it for what it is. Their songs for Anime (they have done several) only scratch the surface of these amazing ladies extensive catalogue and I hope you explore them further.

Band-Maid is in a league of their own. I enjoy all of the other Japanese-based bands in particular Maximum the Hormone. They all have their own sound but as far as songwriting goes I feel Band-Maid is on another level. They are versatile and can draw from many different genres such as Hard & Progressive Rock/Metal Funk,Punk,Jazz,Blues and Pop to form a unique signature of their own. They all are exceptional instrumentalists and performers.
You would be hard-pressed to find another band that has the so-called "IT FACTOR" as Band-Maid does. Oh and they are possibly the most proficient band at creating music you will ever find. They practically produce a studio album annually and have accumulated a vast catalog of music that reaches well into triple digits. This band needs to be illuminated and recognized as one of the all-time greats. It is criminal that they do not have millions of subscribers to their UA-cam channel!

I love both Band-Maid and Hanabie. I watched Hanabie live this August and they were amazing. I wouldn't compare them though, because they play completely different styles. Actually the style Band-Maid plays can only be described as the Band-Maid genre, because the next Band-Maid song you listen to will sound different from the last one. They mix jazz, blues, punk, pop, metal, hard rock, even some rap and ska. They tend to be fast paced and some of their latest stuff can often be described as controlled chaos. I would say Shambles is pretty straight forward.

We didn’t really try to compare just state what we liked from one to the other is all. As well as reiterate what others had said is all. If I could I’d be down for seeing them both in person. They are very good on both sides! Thank you for watching!

BAND-MAID - Shambles (English Translation) Lyrics (from Genius)
      [Verse1]
The door opens, a different world
The time has come. No more waiting!
Let's start! Light your path to bliss
      [Pre-Chorus]
      Stronger! (Be more intense)
Fortune, good or bad? Which one would you like?
After all is done,It melds as one. Singing
As you burnt your binding ropes to ashes
      Make shambles
      [Chorus]
      Get real! Wake up!!
      Follow the path of Shura
Even a dash to despair. Go!
For the belief that gives you meaning
      Hand clenched in prayer
Hold firm, onward to the borderlands
      On, further, on
      Do it!!
      [Verse2]
Hеy!! You have enough time to play
Aim highеr. Going up! Going up!
Let go your noble aims, accept it all
      [Pre-Chorus]
      Stronger (Be more intense)
Not only this. Can you prove it now?
      Seething, boiling
So absurd, yet shadows of fear
Let your hopes flood your veins. Shambles
      [Chorus]
      Get real! Wake up!!
      Get beyond Shura
      Watch your unfolding fate
Till the lantern's light fades away
I wanna believe, onward with you
Smile, hand raised high, to the borderlands
Your new wings arching to the future
      [Bass & Guitar Solos]
      [Bridge]
      Yes or No
No thoughts of "can" and "can't"
      No giving up just "because.."
      Eyes don't lie
The one you wanted to be, couldn't be
Reach out, fight, don't give in
You were here, leave your mark
      [Spoken Words]
      Stand up again and again
      Push the envelope
      Like a fierce tiger
      [Chorus]
      Get real! Wake up!!
      Follow the path of Shura
Even a dash to despair. Go!
For the belief that gives you meaning
      Raise your KIBA, your legacy
      Till this request is delivered
      Onwards, forwards go!
      [Outro]
Inscrutable are the ways of the heavens
A fantasy may turn to reality
Sai and Kyo! The world lies before you
      Do it!!!

The creators of the anime show, Kengan Ashura, asked BAND-MAID to make them a Season 2 outro and this song was the result. So you're not wrong in terms of connecting this to Japanese Anime media. However, BM focuses on different types of rock there is something for everyone. Definitely check out Domination (2020 live), Freedom (2020 live), Warning! (mv), From Now On (mv), Secret My Lips (and its fun remix, Secret MAIKO Lips), Blooming (mv), and Onset.

I’ve never seen anime. Band Maid has been commissioned to do some stuff for anime, including this song. Band Maid, essentially, is a hard rock fusion band. They use classic hard rock instrumentation while blending genres.
The Maids have a worldwide, diverse fanbase. Everyone from teenage anime fans to old blues rock musicians like me. They are definitely a musician’s band of musicians.
There’s no way to know what they’re about without listening to at least 10-12 songs through their ten-year long career catalog.
Depends what you’re into. Here are a few to choose from:
“Moratorium,” live. Hard rock, complex arrangement with an Alice in Chains style breakdown
“Play,” official live video. Progressive pop rock with hard rock elements.
“From Now On,” official music video. Heavy metal instrumental.
“Blooming,” punk rock driven progressive song with pop sensibilities.
“The non-fiction days,” a 2000’s alternative rock style elements inside a classic rock song

They have a variety of musical styles.
Anime songs are one aspect of them.
My recommendations are From Now On, Onset live and Without Holding Back.
These three songs focus on instrumental performances and are very good for understanding their musicality.
BAND-MAID is a group of top-notch musicians who are tight, powerful, and have great playing skills.
    Afterwards, watch their live performance.
    BAND-MAID live shows are special.

Shambles is just one of their styles, they are full of variety from rock ballads through the whole rock spectrum to bordering on metal and they are so consistently good, they just don't make bad songs. It's why they are one of my all time favourite rock bands. Try the Manners / Black Hole live double feature which has 2 very different songs, Manners is a groovy bluesy tune and Black Hole is just plain crazy. As others have mentioned, the Yokohanma show was incredible

I looked back at the comments for the Hanabie reaction out of curiosity, and nobody compared BAND-MIAD to Hanabie saying one was better than the other. There were just a lot of comments telling you to check out various bands like BAND-MAID, my comment included. There's a lot of crossover with fans of Japanese bands. You'll see a lot of the same commenters in the comments for different band reactions. There's no real rivalry out there. We are just enthusiastic about the whole scene.

I was one of the folks who suggested our MAIDs ... If you want Chainsaw man that would be Maximum the Hormone ;) . BAND MAID have SEVERAL songs in anime's, this being one of them.
Hanabie (4 sylables ... han-nah-bee-yay) and BAND MAID are apples and oranges. Hanabie is metal, BAND MAID is hard rock. Both are GREAT bands. I saw both of them live this year ... picking a favorite show would be difficult but I'd have to give the edge to BAND MAID. 10 years ... 150 songs ... just perfection and greatness.
You guys nailed the reaction and recognized each band for what they are. Female screamers? Nemophila - REVIVE.

Guys, I'm going to give you the names of the Band members. Miku Kobato is the rhythm guitarist, backup vocalist, and founder of the band. She worked in a maid cafe in Tokyo and was a Japanese idol winner and approached her management company with the idea of an all-female rock band who wore maid costumes. The management company agree to let her try to create the band. She first recruited Kanami Tono as her lead guitarist. Kanami recruited Akane Hirosi, a friend who was a drummer. Akane recruited Misa, the bassist, who was a friend and fellow bandmember from another group. They were originally going to be a four-person band, but Miku, to her credit, realized she did not have the vocal depth and range to be the lead vocalist for a hard rock band. She auditioned and signed Saiki Atsumi as their lead vocalist. Band Maid recently completed their 10th Anniversary tour with a concert before a 10-15,000 audience in Yokohama. The band has been commissioned to do music for several anime films including "Shambles" for Kengan Ashure, a film about fighting, "Sense" for the opening credits of a full feature anime film "Platinum Arrow", and the theme music for an anime called "Days of Wine and Wind". All those official music videos are on UA-cam. Band Maid has also been featured as themselves in an action film titled "Kate" shot in Tokyo. To really get to know Band Maid's hard rock groove, you need to react to a song called "Moratorium". There is a two-song official live video titled "Manners/Black Hole". "Manners" is a pure funk groove and "Black Hole" has a frenetic punk post-apocalypse feel. The video really shows their versatility with what many of their fans, including myself, simply call "Band Maid Music". At times they even mix genres in one song.

Thanks for your reaction. They do have few songs with Anime vibe, but their music in general has quirks and slight progressive edge.
Their anime songs are definitely more commercial-sounding but still unique, but they play so many different styles with multiple of elements in each song that you can't just assume "this is their sound". Live vocal also is more powerful and raw. You also hear a lot of grit in her voice. Refer to other comments and check out at least 10 more songs...only if you're keen.

Interesting hearing it from your angle, because I'm a rock/metal fan who is only aware of these animes because they feature some of my favourite songs. Different is an amazing song that was used in an anime. But most of my favourite Band-Maid songs wouldn't make you think of anime. For example, you could try "Puzzle" live.
Also, you mentioned Tokyo Ghoul. Its theme-song "Unravel" is by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, who are a very good rock band, but there's an amazing instrumental cover of Unravel by a band called Asterism. If you're a Tokyo Ghoul fan, you should give it a try.

Band-Maid has a reputation for writing "songs to order" and the Japanese entertainment industry has had write intro and outro theme music for TV dramas and Anime. Their songs: "Sense", "Glory", "Different", & "Bubble" are all theme songs.
Nemophila is an excellent all female Japanese metal band whose lead vocalist sings clean and screams.
Maximum The Hormone is a classic Japanese hardcore metal band that features screaming and clean vocals. MTH's "Schtick" is Hardcore metal that goes AWOL into pop music and takes detours into surreal side journeys. They've done videos where they demo choreography for their mosh pit. This band is so much fun.
BTW: Hanabie started as a MTH cover band. That's where the irreverence comes from.

For Japanese bands with growly female vocals you could look at Nemophila, Saiseiga, Dimrays, Merging Moon and Killt Melt Land. For female idol groups with growls there are Passcode, Broken By The Scream or Miscast / Maze (name changed) plus others.
Not to leave the guys out there are Dir En Grey, Deviloof, Nocturnal Bloodlust Jiluka and Kizu just for a start.

As you dive deeper into the Japanese scene, you'll discover some of the best musicians you'll ever come across! I've often said that their average player is on par with our very best! Ok, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it isn't far off! There's something about the work ethic in Japan, they sit down to learn an instrument, and they don't stop until they have mastered every nuance of that instrument. So a lot of the musicians in these bands are just on another level.
This is just a list of some of the most out-of-this-world musicians that we know about over here! There's tons more that we in the West don't even know about, because they don't market their music outside of Japan too much.
Virtuoso bassists: MISA (Band-Maid), Fami (Lovebites), F Chopper Koga (Gacharic Spin), Haraghuchi-san (Nemophila) ...
Virtuoso guitarists: Kanami (Band-Maid), Midori & Miyako (Lovebites), Saki & Hazuki (Nemophila), Yoshi and Toki (Aldious), Hal-ca (Asterism) ...
Virtuoso drummers: Akane (Band-Maid), Tamu (Nemophila), Haruna (Lovebites), Sae & Chikka (former and current Hanabie drummers, respectively), Marina Bozzio (Aldious) ...
Amazing composers: Kanami (Band-Maid), Miyako (Lovebites), Asami & Mao (Asami is vocalist for Lovebites, Mao is keyboardist for Lightbringer, but both are a prolific song-writing team with several Lovebites and Lonesome Blue songs), Matsuri (Hanabie) ...

It’s cute to see people try to classify them after a song or 2, though. Some reactors accidentally hear 4-5 songs that are similar and think they have it nailed down, but they have no idea what they’re going to hear next, and how surprising it will be!

I think _some_ fans take being connected to anime as dismissive. I went to college as a music major, and _some_ people there dismissed movie soundtracks. Who's written movie soundtracks? Stravinsky, Copeland, John Williams, Danny Elfman. Should they be dismissed because they wrote a film score? Akane Hirose, Band-Maid's drummer, listed anime tracks as one of her career goals from the earliest days. She loves anime and has named her drum kits after anime characters. Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno is a brilliant composer and one of her goals is to write for television and movies, too. So don't focus on one or two UA-cam comments. Most of their fans care a lot more about the music than how it's used.
Some other commenters here have also identified one of the problems with pigeon-holing Band-Maid's genre ... it's all over the map. Sometimes it's all over the map in *one* song; like, a disco beat in the drums, a grunge bass line, a metal lead guitar riff and a pop vocal. What's consistently impressive is how they all seem to fit together into a unified whole instead of being a bunch of unconnected parts glued together. I really like Hanabie, Nemophila, Lovebites, and the rest of the scene. The one thing I love about Band-Maid is the variety and unity.
By the way, in school the topic was the German idea of _Gebrauchsmusik_ ("music for use"), music that is utilitarian rather than artistic. Andy Warhol had a hard time being taken seriously by the fine art establishment because he made money designing store window displays and magazine advertising instead of starving to death like a proper artist. Screw 'em. Somebody wants to pay me? The only question is: "Is this check good?"
As an aside about pronouncing Japanese words: As I understand it, using English characters to spell Japanese words is phonetic. That means there are no silent letters like English tends to have. It also means that vowels are consistent; A is _always_ "ah" and E is _always_ "eh" and I is _always_ "ee" and so on. When Japanese words have two vowels together, you pronounce both of them every time. "Hanabie" would be "Hah Nah Bee Eh." I wouldn't worry about it too much despite how much comment you get. English and Japanese are very far apart and any Japanese will spot your pronunciation immediately. Hopefully they won't be cruel when they laugh at you, like you aren't cruel when you hear a Japanese speaker struggle with "r" in English.

Why is the band turned down so low? But is sounds like an Anime Theme Song because it is one. This was commissioned for the season two closer for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura. And they've done others, 'Glory' for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS comes to mind. But you need to check out the songs that aren't commissioned for anime theme songs, especially LIVE. But you need to say what your preferences are. BAND-MAID is no respecter of genres. So they have something for everyone. It's just easier to make suggestions based on what you're into.

Why does EVERY SINGLE reactor associate every Japanese band to anime? Why??!!! Just because they're Japanese?! Can't someone just say,"Hey, this is some great rock and metal"? And comparing Hanabie to Band-Maid is like comparing tomatoes to bananas. One is hardcore metal core, and the other is just classic rock and roll. That's like comparing Sublime and Metallica just because they're both from America. C'mon guys

Ok for real who touched you? That’s how we relate to the music. It reminds of us of anime due to us watching anime. Take a breath and calm down. It’s not a disgrace to say hey this sounds like a great anime intro. We like the song/music. Didn’t make a direct comparison we only reiterated what others have commented on the last song that we posted. Comparing sublime and Metallica is a ok thing to do doesn’t hurt anyone or anything. I hope you have and are having a good day. Thank you for watching and hope you are or can be pleased with our other videos.
