    So many different sounds. They are truly the most diverse band I have ever seen. I do prefer their harder side, but I love everything that they bring no matter what it is. Kudos to our little Mincho for her writing and composing genius. I agree that all young artists who want to write songs should study her songs from Alone to the present.

      Me too! It helps me to hear things I would otherwise not consciously notice, and that enhances my appreciation. It's like it's helping to answer the questions "Why do I like this so much?" and "I think this is really really great, but what makes it so?" that plague a layman like myself.

    There couldn’t be a greater timing to this video, as I’ve seen them live for the first time yesterday in Nagoya! Their music is already amazing as it is, but seeing them live… exceeded all and any expectations I had. I was close to Misa for most of the show and it was so cool to see her mastery of the bass up close 🤌. Love all your reactions, greetings from a Brazilian in Japan 🇧🇷🇯🇵

      Tony does a great job. His background as an educator really shows. I particularly like that he's happy to go back over and over. So many reactors act like they need to speedrun through the video. I'm happy to watch as many times and for as long as you have something interesting to say. Band-Maid's songs are so dense, you can't do them justice with a short video.

    This one, like 'Glory', is another anime theme song commission. It's the season two closing theme for the Netflix anime, Kangan Ashura. But you haven't reacted to 'Hate' from their Lollapalooza show yet. It has an awesome Call & Response "Battle" with killer drums! I think the cameraman and the director must have fallen in love with Akane because they keep it on the drums even during some of the solos. You'll love it! And, please, don't wait so long.

    • @stevekane4922
      @stevekane4922 7 місяців тому +2

      Yeah that was my diagnosis, it was not a lack of respect for MISA, they were just totally mesmerized by Akane. You have to remember the unambitious level of drumming everyone's used to. People like Akane and the sokoninaru drummers are just not slightly intimidated by electronic music and yet they are nothing to do with the UA-cam soloists. They are musicians. This is why Davy 504 was deafeningly silent when Herman Li called him out on MISA. She too is a complete musician. The fact that she can slap pop and pick in the same bar is entirely in service to the ensemble.
      Like sokoninaru it's just too much for a lot of people. So pleased that the reviewer from rolling stone totally got what she was seeing at Lopalooza and why they were so important.

  • @garylai363

    What's great about this song is that it shows that they are still improving with each new release, but at the same time, they kept this song more "commercially appealing" as it is being used for the ending theme of an anime. They always have catchy choruses but they didn't try to be too experimental with things, while still maintaining their complex layered sound.

    Yes, Shambles is the Akane show with special guest stars Kanami, MISA, Saiki and Miku. But wait! Was it really the Kanami show, because she wrote the song and played it with such forcefulness and exquisite abandon. Or was it the MISA show because without MISA, the rapturous drive of the song would be a ride on four flat tires. Or was it the Saiki show because she focused the sonic chaos into a song with melodies that could express Miku's lyrics like no other singer could. Without Saiki, Shambles might sound like a familiar instrumental. Or was it the Miku show because, damn, she wrote the lyrics, played the important rhythm parts, and added her unique brand of backup vocals that have become a defining "sixth instrument" of Band-Maid.
    So exactly whose show was it? It was the Maid's show, as usual! 🤘🎀🤘 Thx, Tony!

    Great reaction and analysis video Tony. I always appreciate reaction videos that look into instrumentation or vocal analysis instead of just the bare minimum or over exaggerated faces and saying well that was cool. Not being a musician myself but inspired to want to learn to play guitar by Kanami, Hazuki and Saki, some things go over my head, but I enjoy seeing the deep dive. Though Band Maid is extremely talented and extremely hard working. Their love for their craft and their work they put into their music, the fans and eachother is ultimately what caught my attention years ago and I've been in love since then. Being prominently a metalhead growing up with Slipknot,Static X, Devildriver etc I wasn't invested or completely sure how to feel about them then. Their sound didn't immediately grab my attention and the mix between rock and pop didn't appeal to me and the image was off putting at first. What caught my attention was ultimately watching don't you tell me live from 2018 and seeing the love and passion for what they do and seeing the band members playing around and having fun, and let's not forget the back and forth between Misa and Kanami alongside Kanami's Rockstar pose at the end of the solo. After that the puzzle pieces fell into place and I was in love and invested in Band Maid and they're my top favorite band alongside Nemophila. Band Maid were my first tattoos I've gotten with their logo first and the anime version of Saiki from their promotional image for Unleashed and wish to get Kanami done next. They were also my first major concert I attended in Seattle last year with my sister who went in blind and really enjoyed herself. Despite not being able to see the band members with only really being able to see Akane and fleeting glimpses of Saiki I was in awe the entire with what they brought and the synergy between the band and crowd was amazing and actually acknowledging that a band I fell in love with and have admired for so long is practically right in front of me. I was speechless after the show not being able to articulate on what to say and I was riding the concert high for days after that. I hope they come back to Washington soon because I'll buy tickets in a heartbeat

    Thanks Tony, I love your detailed analysis. It's easy to miss a lot of the complexity of a Band-Maid composition due to the frenetic pace.
    While you're back on the Japanese train, can I gently remind you that's its been a year since you last checked out Lovebites? They have some awesome live performances with their sensational new bassist, Fami. I think you would particularly like Liar, the most recent release on their channel. Haruna is a beast on this track, and the M & M guitar show is off the charts perfection as usual. btw, Haruna and Akane are good friends. Cheers from Australia.

  • @daaaaaave
    @daaaaaave 7 місяців тому

    I'm not sure if Misa is popping in addition to picking. I've never seen her do that kind of thing with her hand, but she does frequently strategically pick upward to kind of hook the string and give it a little extra, which might be what you're hearing, or might be what you meant. But what you described, I pictured as a weird hybrid method, where she hooks with her fingers, which I don't think she does with the pick out. Eventually, there should be some Shambles self-covers on Band-Maid Prime, and I could verify.

Listening with some good headphones, I love the way this MV was produced. The proportions between guitar, bass, percussion and voice is the closest to their live sound of any BAND-MAID MV.
    A request for another Japanese band reaction, at some point: Hanabie. ("hah-nah-be-eh") "We Love Sweets" is a great place to start. Or perhaps "Tousou". They finished up their own USA tour lately. And they sound like no one else on Earth.

      I watched some other reactions but i really like the way you analyse, you really listen and give insightful information. Out of the songs I listed i think In the blood is considered most popular, but they are all good.

    God I missed BAND MAID reactions and love love their musicianship! I am not a musician nor know too much about music but I live with one and hate his music! Man with a guitar is the worst ganre IMO (his music)! He hates my Japanese music and your reactions really justify and cement my choice in music!
