If I move my hand at all or move my head at all, or stop concentrating, I lose it. I have had to do the exercises the rest of my life. I got to where I only needed to do them on a once or twice a week basis by the time I was in college. I even managed to pass a driver's test and drive a car, as long as I only did so when I wasn't the least bit tired or ill. If I'm tired or not feeling well, I can't control the double vison well enough to drive. My double vision is getting worse again over the last five years because my nerves are damaged from having hyperparathyroidism, so I'm having to do my eye exercises more often. I’m not sure if I’ve had double vision since I was born, or if it was using the 3D feature on my 3DS when I was 4. I think it was noticed at that time though, then I wasn’t able to use the 3D on the 3DS anymore just in case it made my eyes worse. Me and my dad liked to say “one eye is looking at you, one eye is looking for you.” When I was around year 6 I think AND IN CHRISTMAS, I ended up getting a surgery on both eyes to try and fix them (it was originally just going to be one eye, but I think they couldn’t tell which one the weak eye was, or they were both weak lol) (oh joy). So couldn’t see for like the first day or so after, needed eyedrops at least once a day otherwise my eyes were stuck shut together while it healed. It did work for a bit I think, it stopped my eyes from being wonky, but after a while the double vision came back. My dad’s talking about if I should get surgery again to try and fix the double vision, but I’m very sceptical about it. It didn’t work the first time, I don’t like surgeries
That was awesome!! Much better than using a pencil.. I was just asking "why can't I use my hands instead of a pencil" and bam, your video comes up. Thanks!!
That definitely makes it easier at first. But it's actually great to do this in a room with other objects and practice opening your peripheral vision while doing the exercise. I created a course that can help with that part! learn.strabismussolutions.com/mastering-peripheral-vision
I am 82 and l was operated for strabism at the age of 8 by a doctor Whittington who was apparently a pioneer in this kind of surgery. Once a week my mother took me on an hour’s journey to a hospital where l spent a while doing eye exercises on one of those machines where you have to get the ball in the bucket etc. l actually enjoyed doing them and was very assiduous. The right lens of my spectacles was of course covered. The day of the operation arrived and l think those exercises really helped because l was the only child in the ward ( there were about 6 children in all) for whom the intervention was successful. I was lucky, but often wonder if l could have healed the condition just by exercising with the type you show here. I still feel myself squinting occasionally when l am tired and l seem to have a slight squint in some photographs. I was a rather ugly child because of this and was greatly teased! 🇬🇧🙏
My daughter 8 years old had little strabismus hardly noticeable. We went to an optometrist and she was told to wear glasses and do patching for 3 months. We did. Things improved then 2 weeks she was not wearing them and her strabismus went really bad! We went to another doctor optometrist, and she prescribed stronger glasses and advised against patching. Her strabismus improved little with glasses, but without glasses, it was worse. So now I m waiting for an appointment with other doctors and after reading reviews here I m thinking maybe I should not do any glasses as the things get worse!
I do them about 30 minutes every day, but you'd need to ask your optometrist what would work best for you. I can help you find one at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
I am 24 years old. At the age of 16, my vision became very difficult. When I came to the eye doctor, I had myopic astigmatism. The left eye -5, the right - 4. At the age of 20, the minus in the left eye increased -7, the right eye remained the same. I also have a slightly lazy left eye, the eye muscle is slightly deviated towards the nose. I really wanted laser correction, but I was refused, because the astigmatism is high. I need a phakic lens operation, but I can see well with glasses, and my doctor didn't recommend it either, it's not in a hurry. By the way, about my lazy eye exercises. The doctor didn't say anything... because I have high astigmatism, there is no point in doing exercises, but if I do the exercises, will the discomfort ease a little?
While you were explaining the doing the exercise side to side around 3:29 you kinda moved your head. Was that intentional? because usually they tell you to keep your head still and only move your eyes while doing eye exercises. Also thank you for this video as first I was a lil skeptical of the exercise as it just seemed like basic pencil push ups but it's definitely a lot more then that and there's way more feed back for your eyes.
You're welcome for posting this! I definitely didn't intentionally move my head. That is just what happens when I try to talk and do exercises at the same time. My vision is still not perfect.
I don't really know about that. I would definitely find a great developmental optometrist who could help you figure out what is going on. If you go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ I can help you.
You can definitely fix exotropia with vision therapy, but it will take more than just one exercise. If you want help finding an office, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
So my story is: I got traumatized so bad my right eye started becoming mildly lazy. So I band aid my left eye shut to strengthen my right eye. It also doesn’t help that my left side is my good side so subconsciously I show my left side more. So the muscle tissue is a lot stronger on the left. I’m training to use both side cohesively. It also doesn’t help I’ve been hanging out with people in the car then sitting face to face.
I didnt know that there are exercises for this. I did not pay attention to my condition until someone point it out that it almost didnt go back to its original position. It was not worse when I was younger so I really dont know what happened. Hopefully this exercise will help me. I was struggling to see double when doing this especially when I was younger, I even flexed that I only see 1 not 2(it was embarrasing)
Hi, I’ve had two surgeries on my eyes, to fix the squint and then to fix the double vision, which was one above the other. I still got a bit of double vision but one above another, predominately when I’m standing up and looking into the distance. Do you know any exercises for that. Thanks 👍
I have a few exercises that I do to help with vertical strabismus. It is very complicated and I would do it with an optometrist. I can help you find on at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ They will probably give you prism in your glasses as well which really helps with vertical strabismus.
Hello, excuse me, I have a question. What happens is that I suffer from the same strabismus with lazy eye. In the United States, there are specialists on the subject who can help me with vision and deviation.
OK,OK,OK,OK,OK,OK! I though that something in my eyes isnt okay, but i see 1 thumb and 2 little finger when i focus on it! Btw,I see little bit a double in a background.
Hey thank you for this good information. I have a little squint in my right eye since I was 4 years old .does ti can be cured by this pencil push-ups. Bcz there is no vision therapy center in my area 🥺
Minor cases can be fixed with simple pencil push-ups, but most cases require a much more comprehensive approach. Where are you from? There is vision therapy around the world, but it is expensive.
Thank you. I am a Korean with exophoria. I think it's a useful practice method. The astigmatism is -3.50 diopter. I heard that lack of control due to astigmatism leads to lack of convergence, so I'm doing control training. This is because we expect it to help with convergence, so do you have an opinion on this?
@@strabismustostereopsis7799 had you have surgery at youre eyes? on my 10th i have it. and on my 21year. no after 22 years my right eye move to the right again. i go for my 3rd surgery at my eyes.
Hello, this is great to see that you're replying to all the comments. I had a question. When doing this exercise, I see 2 thumbs and 2 pinkies. But I believe I look at the thumb with both my eyes. I think I'm at the same stage as you are in this video 😋 I had surgery about a month ago and have to ask my brain to look with both eyes. (Get double vision lol) Do you happen to know the reason of seeing 2 thumbs and will this exercise help fuse the images?
This means that both of your eyes are working, but they are not pointing at the right place. Try moving your hand closer or further and notice the space between your thumbs changing. Do they get closer or further apart? Somewhere there is a point where they line up. You find that place and then work from there. Are you in vision therapy?
Hello .I did a lazy eye surgery three years ago .I notice this year my lazy eye came back .does this exercise will work for me or I have to go and do another surgery??+ how many times a week do I have to do it ❤❤❤lots of thanks
This exercise can help if both of your eyes can work, but if you are suppressing one it may not work. You might want to look into vision therapy. This free quiz might help you understand better. learn.strabismussolutions.com/f4a044b0-9c6f-4242-a368-a5a256ee34d3
Hello, after doing these exercises, is it normal that I feel a bit headache?(is it because my eyes are not used to looking at an object like this and needs time to get used to it?) It would mean a lot if you reply:)
I do get a headache from time to time after exercises, but if you relax your eyes, it isn't nearly as bad. Eating healthy also makes a big difference with the side effects.
The best option is to find a Behavioral Optometrist that practices vision therapy and they can help you. It all depends on the specifics of your diagnosis. Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Maam i have hidden squint... Suddenly my eyes turn outwards ... And i was done vission therapy also ..but my eyes not fix ...wht should i do ? Maam plz reply me...
I have mild strabismus on left eyes. I can't able to focus both eyes at the same time . When I focus on my left eyes , it is different ( perspective) than right eye . Can you help me ?
It sounds like you could benefit from vision therapy to help your eyes learn to sync together. I can help you find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Thank you for sharing this exercise method. I have a question: whenever l move away my hand while looking at my thumb, my pinky finger appears double, but the distance between two pinky fingers keeps reducing. Is it normal?
That is a great question! The big thing is to start working with peripheral fusion and slowly work towards the center. It all depends on where your vision is right now though. Have you been to a vision therapy office? I can help you find one at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
@@strabismustostereopsis7799 I have the same issue where my eyes are great at closer distances but shift outwards when looking far, do you have any videos for this or is it recommended to go to a therapy lesson?
@@zmazn Vision therapy is a great option for that. It is a very common issue, especially for people who use computers often or do a lot of near work. You can schedule a call with me at strabismussolutions.com/consult/ or go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ and I can help you find an office.
Also, if I close my right eye (eye without Strabismus) my left eye that is turned outward with both eyes opened, becomes more centered as it's supposed to be. Quite a scary trick to play with small kids. but quite concerning from a vision perspective. Replaced glasses last year and my Optometrist simply said, "Wow, that left eye is really there isn't it?". Never gave me any tips or anything I could use to improve the condition. The glasses prescribed brings my left eye inward slightly while wearing them, but it's still nowhere symmetrical with right eye, with or without the glasses.
Hi Jeff, unfortunately, your story sounds extremely familiar and there are so many others who struggle with some of the exact same things. I will say that usually glasses help, not hinder, unless there is a lot of prism. There are SO many exercises that you can do to help your situation. The video coming out tomorrow gives some basics. Have you subscribed to my TIP Tuesday email yet? That could be great too! strabismussolutions.com/
The goal is always to be able to do it without prism, eventually. Sometimes, we have to use aids, like prism, to get there. It all depends on where you can get success.
Hello Miss.. I have a 6 year old child.. he has a right and left eye like yours before it healed.. I feel sad when someone makes fun of him.. what I want to ask is how long does it take to do training or therapy like the one you gave as an example to recover to a normal eye like the one you have now?
Hello there. I wanted to ask that can eyes be completely treated with only vision therapy, without any help of eye surgery. My lazy eye is not very noticeable but i cannot see in 3D and cannot focus when being photographed. That's why i am here. So without surgery can i achieve 100% of correction?) Thanks for your reply beforehand
There is never a guarantee of 100% fix, especially with strabismus. But you can definitely have major improvements. Usually eye turns less than 15-20 diopters can be fixed with therapy alone, but larger angles need therapy and surgery. Of course, there are exceptions both ways! If you want help figuring out the journey, schedule a call with me at strabismussolutions.com/consult/
Yes, but a young child may not understand the concept. You should check with a developmental optometrist before doing it though. Find one at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
I am an 18-year-old, and my left eye is significantly weaker compared to my right eye, and my doctor says that I have minor exophoria. Can I prevent it with these exercises? Will this condition worsen as I age? I am really worried about it!
Hey, it sounds like you are figuring out how your vision works. You can definitely make improvements and if you do nothing, it could get worse over time. Vision therapy would be amazing for you! Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Omg this is terrible advice. Most people have exophoria. These exercises will not help with that. Seek professional advice if you experience double vision. It is unlikely to get worse
My one eye is straight and the other isn't, but i can make the other straight and the one not straight, means i can switch them easily and i have not difficulty in vision, it isn't blur at all, in order to make both eye straight, will these exercise work for me?
Usually a different type of exercises are needed for alternating strabismus like you are describing. My course learn.strabismussolutions.com/mastering-peripheral-vision can help you with some foundational pieces. In-office vision therapy is ideal.
Hey I have short sightedness and eyes that go outwards when one eye looks left the other looks outwards. It’s a genetic eye disorder. I am intellectual disabled and wanted to ask you if you could make an interactive eye exercise for me to follow your finger movement and instructions. Hope you have come up with something for me. ❤
Hi there! I have a history of strabismus. I also have a retina that detached I went blind. The strabismus is back now! What do I do if I cannot see out of it and want to practice?
it seems good - I have slight exotropia in my right eye after covid - I can see the 2 pinkies etc, but when u said u had surgery, was it the surgery that improved your strabismus, or the exercises?
It was definitely a combination. The therapy helped my brain learn to use both eyes. Surgery made them closer to alignment so that it was easier. I wouldn't do surgery for a slight exotropia.
When I tried first exercise the thumb and pinky finger i saw only one finger and 1 pinky. How to improve this to see 2 finger. Should i do these exercises with glasses or without glasses? Please reply
Do the exercise with your glasses. If you are only seeing one of each then you are probably suppressing the vision from one eye. In-office vision therapy will be the best way to awaken your eye and teach your brain to use both eyes together. Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
That requires someone's advice that is more specialized than me. You must strengthen each eye in order for them to work well together. I would recommend doing exercises with one eye at a time until the weak one because more strong!
Is there any issue if i’m going to do this one week or so after the surgery for intermittent exo or it’s too soon? there’s still some exodrift left (at cover test) and I’m thinking that maybe I can fix that

I’m not sure if I’ve had double vision since I was born, or if it was using the 3D feature on my 3DS when I was 4. I think it was noticed at that time though, then I wasn’t able to use the 3D on the 3DS anymore just in case it made my eyes worse. Me and my dad liked to say “one eye is looking at you, one eye is looking for you.”
When I was around year 6 I think AND IN CHRISTMAS, I ended up getting a surgery on both eyes to try and fix them (it was originally just going to be one eye, but I think they couldn’t tell which one the weak eye was, or they were both weak lol) (oh joy).
I dont like surgery either. I think I will stick with eye exercises to help.
Hello . Thanks for this video. How many times a day should we do this? Is there a plan? If there is, please tell me
That was awesome!! Much better than using a pencil.. I was just asking "why can't I use my hands instead of a pencil" and bam, your video comes up. Thanks!!
Excellent! I love the feedback that you can get when using your hand.
This exercise is done after wearing sunglasses or without sunglasses...??
Thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU SAVED ME ILY
Did it work? Please respond
Is it better to do these exercises sitting in front of a plain wall so the surroundings don't interfere with our depth perception?
And you are 82?
Why focusing through the lazy eye makes me sleep?
My daughter 8 years old had little strabismus hardly noticeable. We went to an optometrist and she was told to wear glasses and do patching for 3 months. We did. Things improved then 2 weeks she was not wearing them and her strabismus went really bad! We went to another doctor optometrist, and she prescribed stronger glasses and advised against patching. Her strabismus improved little with glasses, but without glasses, it was worse. So now I m waiting for an appointment with other doctors and after reading reviews here I m thinking maybe I should not do any glasses as the things get worse!
Thank you so much it helps me! I've been bullied alot for having a lazy eye but thank you it helps!😭
Are u still getting bullied? R ur eyes officially straight ?
Does it works really
Should you see two no matter where the thumb is positioned?
Yes. There should always be one where you are looking and two of the finger/thumb you are not looking at.
Can somebody explain me how to do the exercises? I didn't understand the process correctly. My English is weak
know you some dynamic exercises (several directions at the same time)? thank you
There are so many different exercises. Make sure to check out my website for other options. strabismussolutions.com/
I can see two pinky but not two thumbs any suggestions
How much time do you exercise in a day?
Tysm for this
How long should we do this to see improvement
Thanks for this but I don't seem to get it. It seems difficult.
How often should i do this how many sets and reps
How long do you do these exercises daily?
I do them about 30 minutes every day, but you'd need to ask your optometrist what would work best for you. I can help you find one at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Very helpful video
and those beautiful ocean blue eyes 💝💝
Did you check yourself for keratoconus

Can it worked on adults too ??
Wow.great video❤
This help me!!! Thanks 🙏🏾
Hey 👋👋 am an optometrist in Bangladesh. Nice to meet you on UA-cam video.
Great to see you here! Do you practice vision therapy? If so, what is the name of your office? I'd love to add you to my list.
is it normal to feel like your eye is twitching ?
thanks you so much
Hi, how long were you doing it?
Thank you for your information ♥️.while doing exercises my both eye ball shake rapidly is that normol or not please help me with that ♥️🙏
I don't really know about that. I would definitely find a great developmental optometrist who could help you figure out what is going on. If you go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ I can help you.
I also have outward strabismus, do you think it goes away?
And I would appreciate it if you could tell me how much it should be done as a set.
You can definitely fix exotropia with vision therapy, but it will take more than just one exercise. If you want help finding an office, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
So my story is:
I got traumatized so bad my right eye started becoming mildly lazy.
Make sure to work with both eyes open to help the brain develop binocularity. learn.strabismussolutions.com
Thanks for the tips! I change my pinky to index finger cause its easier
That is the beauty of eye exercises, you can experiment and adjust them to work for you!
Is it possible to fix strabismus without surgery?
Yes!
Did it work?
Hey should i do the exersises with my glasses or without them
I would use the glasses. If they have prism, you could eventually try without them to strengthen your eyes.
That is great! Sounds normal to me.
Hello! Thank you very much for this exercise! I have one question. Is it better to do this exercise with my glasses or without?
It depends on the type of glasses. Usually, people use glasses during exercises though.
@@strabismustostereopsis7799 i have small prism correction in eyeglasses. Thank you so much for answering
Hey please answer my question when i see the thumb the thumb is single and the pinky is two the eyes is correct or incorrect
Thank you. I am a Korean with exophoria. I think it's a useful practice method. The astigmatism is -3.50 diopter. I heard that lack of control due to astigmatism leads to lack of convergence, so I'm doing control training. This is because we expect it to help with convergence, so do you have an opinion on this?
I'm not sure about the astigmatism. But this is a fantastic exercise for working on convergence!

Hello, this is great to see that you're replying to all the comments.
I had a question. When doing this exercise, I see 2 thumbs and 2 pinkies. But I believe I look at the thumb with both my eyes.
I think I'm at the same stage as you are in this video 😋
I had surgery about a month ago and have to ask my brain to look with both eyes. (Get double vision lol)
Do you happen to know the reason of seeing 2 thumbs and will this exercise help fuse the images?
This means that both of your eyes are working, but they are not pointing at the right place. Try moving your hand closer or further and notice the space between your thumbs changing. Do they get closer or further apart? Somewhere there is a point where they line up. You find that place and then work from there. Are you in vision therapy?
I have the same issue, but my images never merge at any place, but closer to eyes it seems to merge.
What if you see double trying to see at a distance?
Do you know if this exercise works for inner eye turn?
Great info
Hello .I did a lazy eye surgery three years ago .I notice this year my lazy eye came back .does this exercise will work for me or I have to go and do another surgery??+ how many times a week do I have to do it ❤❤❤lots of thanks

Hi thanks for the reply ❤❤sometimes if i did my exercise my lazy eye I think it's my muscles like in pain is that normal???
What if you can’t move your left eye independently and it only follows what your right eye does.
Is it effective 😢😢
May I ask how many times should we do this per day? I hope you'll reply and thank you!!!
I would ask your optometrist about that. I usually do vision therapy exercises 30 minutes- 1 hour per day 5-6 days a week.
Hello ma’am,can you please tell me that, can eye exercise helps in contraction of squint eye? Or we must do surgery 😣💔please tell me

Thank you for sharing this exercise method. I have a question: whenever l move away my hand while looking at my thumb, my pinky finger appears double, but the distance between two pinky fingers keeps reducing. Is it normal?
Yes it is normal!
Hi :) Should I do these excercises with my contact lenses or without?
That is a great questions for your optometrist, but. Think most people use their contacts during eye exercises.
What if my eyes drift outwards when I’m looking far in distance? What would you recommend for exercises ?
Do you do this with prism glasses on or
Off?
The goal is always to be able to do it without prism, eventually. Sometimes, we have to use aids, like prism, to get there. It all depends on where you can get success.
Hello Miss.. I have a 6 year old child.. he has a right and left eye like yours before it healed.. I feel sad when someone makes fun of him.. what I want to ask is how long does it take to do training or therapy like the one you gave as an example to recover to a normal eye like the one you have now?
It depends on the severity of the turn and if it is constant or intermittent. Within one year you should be able to see a big difference.
Hello there. I wanted to ask that can eyes be completely treated with only vision therapy, without any help of eye surgery. My lazy eye is not very noticeable but i cannot see in 3D and cannot focus when being photographed. That's why i am here. So without surgery can i achieve 100% of correction?)
Thanks for your reply beforehand
There is never a guarantee of 100% fix, especially with strabismus. But you can definitely have major improvements. Usually eye turns less than 15-20 diopters can be fixed with therapy alone, but larger angles need therapy and surgery. Of course, there are exceptions both ways! If you want help figuring out the journey, schedule a call with me at strabismussolutions.com/consult/
Is this excercise applicable for any ages?

Hi there! I have a history of strabismus. I also have a retina that detached I went blind. The strabismus is back now! What do I do if I cannot see out of it and want to practice?
If you are truly blind in one eye, you won't be able to do this exercise. Are you fully blind?
it seems good - I have slight exotropia in my right eye after covid - I can see the 2 pinkies etc, but when u said u had surgery, was it the surgery that improved your strabismus, or the exercises?
It was definitely a combination. The therapy helped my brain learn to use both eyes. Surgery made them closer to alignment so that it was easier. I wouldn't do surgery for a slight exotropia.

Do the exercise with your glasses. If you are only seeing one of each then you are probably suppressing the vision from one eye. In-office vision therapy will be the best way to awaken your eye and teach your brain to use both eyes together. Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
How many times and how long do you do this exercise?
I usually do eye exercises for 30 minutes each day. That usually involves 3-4 different exercises that I do for 5-10 minutes each.
How many years have you been doing it?
i mean the exercise
I only did this one for a few weeks. I worked on eye exercises very consistently for about 3 years. Now I do the exercises for fun.
For how long every day we gotta do this
Ill just do it any time i remember
I'm blind in my left eye and it has strabismus. How do I train the eye that can't see. It only has about 10% of vision because of retinal detachment
That requires someone's advice that is more specialized than me. You must strengthen each eye in order for them to work well together. I would recommend doing exercises with one eye at a time until the weak one because more strong!
Is there any issue if i’m going to do this one week or so after the surgery for intermittent exo or it’s too soon?
there’s still some exodrift left (at cover test) and I’m thinking that maybe I can fix that
This could be great, but it might hurt if your eyes aren't healed up yet. Maybe give it 2-3 weeks.
