Thanks so much for this video. It’s very brave and compassionate and wise of you to share this information with so many people. I was born with the cataract in my left eye, which pretty much obscured all my vision, except for a little bit of peripheral, but I just learned that I can get the lazy part of myself corrected, which can help a little bit with a double vision I guess, and the cosmetic of people looking at me different because I look different. It has led me to be more compassionate and more excepting of people, I mean more grateful for the miracle of the body, but I also see the advantages of cosmetic surgery and feeling good about yourself.❤ thanks again for sharing. It’s takes a lot of courage to show the world that we are not perfect as humans, and we all just want to be accepted and be loved.
Thankyou so much for this video😭😭 i'm really insecure because of my eyes😭 i'm 17years old all off my life i wast an insecure, and i will promise to my self that i will get a job and make some money for my eye surgery.
I feel your pain, I have more than 1 problem but what bothers me the most is when people point it out. I have a cross eyed but only when I stare for a long time. I’m an adult and I’m only 4’10. So lot of ppl don’t notice my eye problem but they do mention my height a lot. And lot of them turned me down for job opportunities they said the reasons being cause I’m short.
Im 26 and had an accident that damaged my eye severely causing me to lose most of my sight in it. It's been 2 years and it has become increasingly lazy. I haven't had the money to have surgery or even to pay for an appointment. I've been working hard and have saved enough to move forward on changing my condition, the self conscienceness and self loathing has been terrible. Keep working hard and saving money! Try to find a job with good insurance! Eye love you
Im going for this surgery in a couple months. I appreciate this video and im glad it worked well for you i have intermittent exotropia in my left and im tired of the struggle
Thank you so so much for this highly informative video of your journey. Your eyes look perfect now. I lost vision in my left eye in 2012 due to the worst case scenario of intracranial hypertension. My eye only started to turn outwards in 2017/18, i’ve been receiving toxin injections since then to straighten my eye but over the past 2 years the injections stopped working. My confidence keeps getting knocked! So now I’ve been put on the waiting list for this correction surgery. I am so nervous and as adult I worry that my eye will stay permanently in the inward position after surgery but the consultant informed me that more than one surgery may happen. Thanks for this.
I'm happy for you that you took such a bold step and I'm happy for you the way you are. I really feel for you because I had my first surgery and I can't say it if it failed but it was not the result I expected.
I had surgery to correct a significantly turned right eye when I was almost two years old. Although the strabismus was corrected, I have amblyopia in that eye. Indeed, the vision is so impaired in the right eye that I cannot read and cannot recognise faces using that eye. My strabismus returned about two years ago, along with age related cataracts in both eyes. My optician has referred me for a consultation to discuss correction of the turned eye (it is the right eye). The information in your video has made me decide that I will not elect to have correctional surgery, if that is offered. This is a very personal decision, based on my age, the vision loss in the turned eye, and the fact that I have other eye conditions to consider. I know for many people, surgery will have immensely positive outcomes. Thank you for being so honest and sharing your experience.
@@DishaDutt-yy4vw Hello, I am still waiting for an appointment with the ophthalmologist. It is classed as a routine appointment, so it could take about eight months (I have about two months to go). I will take advice and will have the cataracts removed, but I won't have surgery to correct the turn. However, this is a personal decision, and I really wish you well with your surgery.
Recovery part is very strange, because every time you want to look your eyes, to see how it looks, just a matter of time to get the good results. Thank you for Sharing.

So it’s surgery or live with partial blindness. Thank you for sharing about the experience. I did question how my brain will respond from the start. At least I know I wasn’t crazy to worry. 🤞🏻guess I’ll find out
Hey, thanks for making this video. I'm learning about the surgery in preparation for getting it done next month. My eyes aren't super misaligned (just a bit), but the doctor says this is the best option to correct my double vision, as the amount of prism needed to fix my double vision is way too much to put into my glasses lenses. I've actually been told this for years, but the doctor actually pulled me into a side office this time and told me I really needed to get this done. I thought this was only for people with crossed eyes or something, but apparently the same problem is what causes the double vision. I'm excited, but also nervous. You helped alleviate some of that. It's good to know that if my vision/look goes weird for a while, it's normal. :)
It sounds like I have similar issue. Its gotten to point where I've maxed out the amount of prism in my lenses, so I'm having surgery next week 6/13. Trying to explain what my vision is and isn't to someone who doesn't have this is difficult. Driving depth perception is the most worrisome. Really paying attention to stop light is also nerve-wracking. Bright sunlight is a beast. Double vision is maddening. Also, my prescription (esp in my right eye) is very strong. My right eye is basically useless. I will have a stick-on prism for that lens to negate the prism in the lens due to the correction. Im hoping I won't be out of commission for too long. How did your surgery go, and did it completely remedy the issues you were experiencing?
I am scheduled for my third surgery on june 13th. The last surgery was 2014. I fell in 2013, hit my head and messed up the the fourth cranial nerve in my lefy eye. I am lucky to live within driving distance to Kellogg Eye Center. It is recognized as one of the premiere eye centers in the country. They have to go in and clean up some scar tissue and realign the eye. Wish me luck.
My experience was successful. I have dry eyes due to oil glands not functioning well. I get laser and manual extraction of the plugged glands. After surgery I wasn’t allowed for about 3 weeks to have dry eye treatments.I have been in lots of dry eye pain. It will take many laser treatments to get back to where I was. Just a warning to others to make sure the surgeon is aware of the dry eye problem.

I always and always will hate if someone says are you talking to me. In my head they saying who are you looking at. I have really bad defense stigma. But I'm aware of it and it's because of the surgery I have such a boost of confidence, especially during meeting.
My surgeon couldn't promise more than 15 to 25% improvement due to nerve damage. I had 4 prior surgeries and radiation. Decided to accept my condition. Hoping their may be nerve replacement in the future. I think that surgeries are not always what people expect. The improvement seems to be short lived. Thats been my experience. Can't speak for others.
I want to get surgery to correct my eyes, but there’s a few things I’m worried about. 1 being put to sleep. 2 the risk of having permanent vision lost or double vision. 3 having to have repeated surgeries if the first one don’t work.

Hi. I had surgery yesterday for my lazy eye, so I had a strabismus operation. Everything went well, and I have no pain. Today, my bandage was removed, and to my surprise, my eye is now slightly turned inward. My doctor said there is swelling inside the eye, so after a few weeks, my eye should straighten out more. But I'm really worried that it won’t. Do you have any knowledge or experience with this? Best regards, Mikkel from Denmark :)
Hello my son is 4 months old. Can you tell us more about your surgery on your eyes as a child. Did it make a difference to you as a child. Why did you have 4 surgeries? Where there done for different issues that all fix the eye. You you see double vision at anytime?
I had this surgery done in the UK on the NHS, way back in 1981 when I was about 7. It was on my right eye, which has become my lazy eye. So I've been left eye dominant since birth. Now at 50, I know my correction on my right eye has weakened over the years, and has started to turn back inwards. Not as much as when I was born.

I just wanted to let you know I had my surgery two weeks ago and I seen my doctor last Friday and he said my eye looks great. My only thing is that the inside of my eye looks discolored lol. But it’s slowly going away. My eye looks great and I feel like I look really good now that my eye doesn’t look outward, lol. Thank you for your video and talking to me
I had no pain with my first 2 strabismus surgeries. I just had my third last week. I had a lot of pain for the first 24 hours but nothing since. I took one Dilaudid tablet at the surgical center and Tylenol at home. It controlled the pain so that it was manageable. With my earlier surgeries I did experience some scratchiness kind of like dry eye. The doctor prescribed drops took care of that. I also had photophobia, sunglasses were my best friend for a while. I am still getting some double vision. But I have had that each time. It has worked itself out each time.

Hi I'd like to just have a quick chat about the second corrective surgery as I had my first yesterday and they've over corrected slightly, just want to know if after a few weeks your eye actually relaxes to where you want it to be or is that the fixed position now
I really appreciate you doing this video! I had eye surgery when I was 3 to correct my eye turning in and have always worn glasses. As a child I never noticed a problem with my eyes but as I got older into high school I started to notice in pictures that my eye would turn out. I’m now 21 and find it is getting worse and have been really self conscious about it, avoiding pictures, making eye contact with people, and wearing sunglasses as much as I can. I’ve been worried it will just get worse as I continue to age and didn’t think there was anything to do about it until recently when I learned about this surgery in adults. I was just wondering how you went about getting this surgery? I’m just unsure if I go to my regular eye doctor and talk to them about it or if I have to go elsewhere?
I've had a very hard time getting the surgery. I asked two different doctors, ⁶and they were both very rude and wanted to know who told me about this. I don't know why they treated me that way. It was very hurtful. I saw these doctors years apart and in different cities. I couldn't do anything but cry. I became self isolated for a couple of years. I still want to have the surgery, but I can not take the emotional toil it took on me to just ask about it.
After loss of most of my vision in my left eye - due to glaucoma - I have developed strabismus in that eye. I will have a meeting with a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic tomorrow to determine whether strabismus surgery will even work for me. If I can get improvement with it, the surgery does not worry me at all. It would be approximately my 23rd or 24th eye surgery! I have been through a lot.
I also have glaucoma, newly diagnosed, I just had my 3rd strabismus surgery a week ago. The doctor who is dealing with the glaucoma didn’t think that a strabismus specialist would be willing to surgically correct the strabismus. He was worried about scar tissue. I have only done a SLT for the glaucoma. The strabismus doctor was not worried he stated that sometimes he might need to get creative but usually he can correct the problem. I still have good vision in both of my eyes. The eye looks straight but very red.
@@annadavis2547 Thank you for this information. Unfortunately, the strabismus doctor I saw was not enthusiastic about attempting the surgery. But then, I have had two glaucoma drainage tubes implanted in each eye. I guess there is not enough "real estate" left to work with.
Thanks for the video! I was told by my Surgeon that surgery could definitely work but hes worried based on my condition that it could end up in double vision. Do you know if there are any other options??
Vision therapy is a great option on it's own and when combined with surgery can bring amazing, long-term results. I can help you find an office for free at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Sometimes the binocular vision can be restored if it was present before hand. My surgeon told me that happens about 2% of the time. The best way to get binocular vision improvements is through vision therapy. You can get help finding an office, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
One thing i noticed is that throughout the video you are moving your eyes in all directions right..left..up while talking Usually people just move their eyes in one particular direction.
Do you have amblyopia as well? If so did they say this would help the eyes work together it was this mainly for cosmetic purposes to help your self esteem?
I do have amblyopia, although it isn't super severe. I did months of vision therapy first so the surgery did help by eyes work together better because I didn't have to concentrate on making my eyes straight as much.
I had my surgery yesterday, my left eye was turning outward so thats why I needed it. But I woke up and my eye was still the same as it was before the surgery. I’m going in for a check in 2 days. I know it’s different for everyone so I’m assuming that it just might take a while for my eye to straighten.
Yes, it can take a while, but sometimes the surgery just isn't successful. After you heal, looking into vision therapy might really make a difference for you! strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Usually, with a brain injury, surgery alone is not going to resolve the issues. Vision therapy will be much more effective with more long-term results. You may end up needing surgery, but the symptoms won't go away with just surgery. strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
I had mine at 24 mine turned out my biggest fear was it turning in and it did and I had 4 more operations and 15 years later the doctors say it’s straight but I still see it turning in and feel it , worst decision ever was to have the op 😢

My surgery is scheduled for April 6 at a surgery center 2 hours away. Main thing I'm nervous about is the potential for overcorrection, and then my intermittent hypertropia could turn into a constant strabismus lol

I was squint at birth but then it corrected itself over the course without any surgery or exercises. However if i play any sports the left eye turns inward and stays that way for 4-5 hours. What is it called or what could be the reason
I had a surgery to correct my strabismus about 11 years ago and it didn't go well. They said that I needed to have prescription glasses after the surgery to help with the correction. I had the insurance to get the surgery but not the insurance to get the glasses and I went to about a dozen different places to see if they would take my insurance & they would not. I was broke and couldn't afford the glasses on my own. The doctor wanted to do the surgery anyway and I didn't know how long it would take to get to get the insurance/money for the glasses, if I was able to get the insurance/money at all. The hospital where I had the surgery is a _`teaching hospital`;_ so, every patient was a guinea pig. So, hoping that I would just not need them, I decided to get the surgery anyway. And I still have it. It didn't fix my eyes at all. That is a scumbag hospital and a scumbag doctor! Medical malpractice, in my opinion.

Just very frustrating watching the waxing and waiting but I am trying to be patient and follow your daily blogs you did. My Dr says it can take up to two weeks for my eye to completely settle down. I am hoping this is going to work for me. I plan on asking my dr about visual therapy when I see her next week. I am just wondering if you had problems with both eyes before hand or just one eye? Did you have surgery on both eyes ?
I had surgery on both eyes. Strabismus is a problem with your whole visual system not knowing how to use both eyes together, so yes, it was a problem in both eyes. I have great news for you, exotropia is MUCH easier to fix with vision therapy than esotropia. If you want help finding a great office, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
Hi Selena, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I also didn't have the adjustable sutures. The Dr. over corrected one of my eyes and now I have a little bit of Exotropia. I'm so sad about this. I feel it's very noticeable and I don't want to leave the house. My Dr. told me that it takes time to adjust/settle, up to two months she told me. This is why she doesn't use adjustable sutures because she wants to wait until my eyes completely settle. I am going to need a 2nd surgery and she can better adjust the 2nd time. I don't know I'm freaking out. :( I am doing some eye exercises. But I'm so discouraged. How is yours going so far?
@@ladynetspy … I was 3 weeks post op yesterday at felt like mine was over corrected somewhat to be exotropia. just curious. pretend your looking at the front of a clock, going clockwise, my eyes look fine if i look from 5 o'clock to 12. but if i look between 12 clock and 5 , my weaker left eye gives up and becomes unaligned with my dominant right eye and i see two images. if im tired sometimes i have to fight it when im looking straight ahead especially if im driving for some reason. kinda have to keep my head tilted back slightly to keep them straight ahead. would surgery help if they cross when i look a certain direction. ive tried every exercise possible and patching. i get 10 minutes of relief but ultimately my left eye does what it wants.
That is interesting. Have you had any scans checking for nerve damage? Sometimes when the vision isn't working in specific directions it can be due to nerve problems.

Did you get your surgery yet?
Hi I have intermittent exotropia too. How’s it going? Have u done with surgery?thx
Oh man, that sounds so challenging! Do you get double vision and does the botox correct it?
Hiiii did u get ur surgery i have same condition as urs n im looking forward for a surgery???
@@DishaDutt-yy4vw Hello, I am still waiting for an appointment with the ophthalmologist. It is classed as a routine appointment, so it could take about eight months (I have about two months to go). Just had my surgery Thursday on 1 eye. Vast improvement already. No pain whatsoever but when I do as on something at a distance it has a slight bounce to it. Slight improvements every day. Seeing 3D after 4 years is wild. Watching 4K tv a few minutes every few hours is helping with my upwards gaze.
“When I focus on something at a distance” I’m blaming autocorrect
That is so awesome! I'm glad that the surgery was a success! The 3D can be so overwhelming.

At least I know I wasn’t crazy to worry. 🤞🏻guess I’ll find out
How did the surgery go? It's almost been two weeks now. I hope you are all healed up!
Good luck! I hope it alleviates your double vision! If not, you can always combine it with some vision therapy to get the rest of the way there.
Good luck tomorrow! I hope it goes well!
@strabismustostereopsis7799 thank u. I am resting at home. I know the next few days will be rough but it is so worth it.
@@mackinacisland3825how was it?
My experience was successful. I have dry eyes due to oil glands not functioning well. I get laser and manual extraction of the plugged glands. After surgery I wasn’t allowed for about 3 weeks to have dry eye treatments.I have been in lots of dry eye pain. It will take many laser treatments to get back to where I was. Just a warning to others to make sure the surgeon is aware of the dry eye problem.

Thanks so much for the video, and did you have similar vision in both eyes or were they different? Can you please answer?
20/20 in my left eye 20/30 in my right.

How bad is the pain afterwards do they give you meds to help? I'm nervous about surgery

Find a pediatric ophthalmologist who specializes in strabismus surgery. Good luck!
Wow! That is a lot of eye surgeries! Good luck at your appointment!

With Extropia Surgery can binocular vision be restored? Do you have binocular vision?
Sometimes the binocular vision can be restored if it was present before hand. My surgeon told me that happens about 2% of the time. The best way to get binocular vision improvements is through vision therapy. You can get help finding an office, go to strabismussolutions.com/findvt/
One thing i noticed is that throughout the video you are moving your eyes in all directions right..left..up while talking
Usually people just move their eyes in one particular direction.
My eyes have a mind of their own, especially when I eat sugar or don't get enough sleep. lol

Hi, my 12 year old just had this done yesterday.
She has lots of questions!
What are her questions? Maybe it would be good to schedule a call on zoom and I can answer them for her.
How much was the surgery
I am watching on behalf of my husband. I want him to have this surgery.
Does he want the surgery?
@strabismustostereopsis7799 Yes, he will be going to an eye clinic this coming September or October and then schedule the surgery in December.
I’m doing mine at a surgery center too
What country did you did this surgery
I'm having strabismus surgery this morning. I have alternating exotropia and my surgeon told me I only need 2 muscles done. Pretty nervous.
I hope it went well. Good luck with the recovery!
Thank you so much
You're welcome, good luck!
did you regain vision in your crossed eye?
How much does it cost ?
hello there! i accidentally found your videos. my esotropia started around the age of 19-20. my squint causes double vision and i hate when people notice it. and now i finally decided to have surgery for it. going to soon finish my first year of medschool and now that i am planning to do the surgery i want to know about the recovery period. my doctor told me 6 days. how long does it take to get back to your routine life?
Have you looked into vision therapy at all, that might be a better first step since your was adult onset. Find an office here strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ My recovery was about one week to get back to feeling well enough to function normal, but about 3-4 weeks to feel like my vision was stabilized.
Did you lose acuity after the surgery?
Thank you for this video.. I am on day 6 of 2 muscle strabismus surgery. I did not have the adjustable suture done and on day 2 it looks like my eye went from intermittent esotropia to some exotropia. Occasionally I will look in the mirror and it looks straight.
I was esotropia to begin with but the more the swelling goes down it feels like it is falling right into place. Don’t get discouraged… I do think it takes a full 2 months for it yo settle down.
@@ladynetspy I am also going to start trying the Virtual Reality apps to see if that will help my eyes get into position and work together. I’m not going to give up.
@@ladynetspy That sounds pretty frustrating, I'm sorry!
I’m freaking out 1 week post surgery and I feel my left eye drifting surgery on right eye 😔
I had this morning
just curious. pretend your looking at the front of a clock, going clockwise, my eyes look fine if i look from 5 o'clock to 12. but if i look between 12 clock and 5 , my weaker left eye gives up and becomes unaligned with my dominant right eye and i see two images. if im tired sometimes i have to fight it when im looking straight ahead especially if im driving for some reason. kinda have to keep my head tilted back slightly to keep them straight ahead. would surgery help if they cross when i look a certain direction. ive tried every exercise possible and patching. i get 10 minutes of relief but ultimately my left eye does what it wants.
That is interesting. Have you had any scans checking for nerve damage? Sometimes when the vision isn't working in specific directions it can be due to nerve problems. Vision therapy can definitely help improve fusion ranges. Surgery can be tricky in cases like yours. Have you been to a VT office? I can help you find one at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/ .
Mam I have intermittent Exotropia from childhood.
My both eyes have squint.
But my both eyes vision is 6/6
Is strabismus surgery is good for me
Please tell
It can definitely be helpful, but if your brain isn't able to use both eyes together, you might end up with double vision. I would recommend also doing vision therapy.
@@strabismustostereopsis7799 its my request that you elaborate more on one having double vision and how do I tell that the Brian isn't able to use both eyes
@@loyk3203 If you go to learn.strabismussolutions.com/do-my-eyes-work-together-6-tests you can take a free test that I made to help you figure out if your eyes are working together. That is a great place to begin.
