Watching this in 2024, Brett Lauther, (the current kicker for the riders) missed 4 field goal attempts (out of 7) which includes the game tying kick. The game ended 24-27 in a loss to Montreal and fans responded by throwing dog poop at his house lol. It was also a controversial loss
My friend and I were sitting around the 30 yd line at the other end of the field. When we saw that Montreal had kicked wide, we assumed Saskatchewan had won and all the folks around us erupted in cheers. We had no idea about the penalty. When everything settled down and it became apparent what had happened, we were stunned. As we exited the field, a TV reporter stuck his mic in my face, asking me how I felt. I responded "Did you ever win the lottery, and come home to tell your wife, only to find her in bed with another man?". It was a tough loss.
An upset... even though the Als were heavy favourites? You know, people have interestingly selective memories. It's not just Rider fans, it's everyone. Nobody seems to remember the blatant pass interference by Alexander against Richardson in the 2-point convert play for Cahoon's TD. If you have a recording of the game (like I do), just go to 105 seconds left in the 4th (one minute amd forty-five secomds) and you'll see it, clear as day. It was the worst non-call in anu Grey Cup game that I've seen, maybe in Grey Cup history. I'm sure that worse non-calls have been made, but not at such a critical time. It made me honestly believe that the officials were trying to give the game to the Riders. Even Christ Cuthbert exclaimed "AND THERE'S NO MARKER!" in obvious disbelief and who could blame him? We all saw Alexander yank on Richardson's shoulder pads to pull him away from the pass. Rider fans say that they gave the game to the Als, but I say that the game should have already been TIED. Montreal shouldn't have been down by two as they were because of that horrible call. I called that illegal substitution penalty nothing more than karma for that non-call that put the Als down by two because a short slant pass from Calvillo to Richardson like that was an automatic catch that year. If God loves the Riders, he really has a crappy way of showing it, eh (only 4 Cups)? 😁
The worst part from this video is the fact that people think it was the fans who saved the Riders when the real story is the NFL saved not only the Riders but the entire CFL with a generious grant.
I'm grateful to have experienced it from the Montreal perspective.
Congratulations to the 2009 Grey Cup Champions the Montreal Alouettes !! GO ALS GO !!
From an Als Fan...Thank you so much Rider Nation for Maciocia, Maas and Fajardo. What great additions to a 2023 Grey Cup Champion......LMAO !!!!!!

Haha an upset? Come on now, Als were 15-3 and considered the best team in the league
Come on... Roughriders were leading for almost the entire Grey Cup and they lost it on the stupid mistake.
Imagine this from the Alouettes’ perspective, and their fans.
They had the opposite feeling/mood swing

So that was made before 2013, because in 2013 Riders won 4th Grey Cup.

😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Riders have always sucked. Great fans cheering for the worst franchise in the CFL.
Someone needs to be the worst. Elks after renaming are also awful.
@@teo_heelEdmonton deserves the worst for the name change
