Hey guys! I didn't expect this video to get so many views. It was a short low-effort thing made for Instagram originally.
I know the camera angle here is bad, but I can’t delete the video because the UA-cam algorithm is boosting it too much. I do have a full video on this idea on my channel that breaks it down extensively, along with other cool hi-hat ideas.
Here's the link - ua-cam.com/video/NinkIY6oaD8/v-deo.html
I love doing this, it to much effort to open my left shoulder as a right handed drummer as well:) thanks
Ill check out your channel for a better angle or explanation 🙂
Ye
Yo, that advanced drum beat is top class
Yea dude . The original angle it’s just an illusion . Good update
are you hitting the bottom of the high hat with the snare hand?
I need the "here's how an idiot can do it" version. Thanks.
So, you need to hold the stick so that it's kinda loose in your hand, with your index and middle fingers cradling it from underneath. You have to move your wrist a bit, but most of the motion is flicking the stick down by rapidly pulling up with your middle finger. Your index becomes the fulcrum and the stick is a lever. Since your middle finger is right next to the fulcrum, you barely need to pull with it to make the stick snap down really fast, especially if you hold near to the middle of the stick so it's well balanced in your hand.
Best comment honestly sums up this stupid “30 second unmusical BS drum content”
@MF YA SILLY it's the best angle possible in order to understand the motion here, if you have ears to hear
@@GuyNamedSean perfect comment
😂😂
That snare sound 🔥
Tight and dry
Close to the crisp sound of an M4 5.56mm shot😉
@@juanzulu1318 😎
You're right it's a great sounding snare nice warm deep crisp is probably a DW
It sounds amazing. I'm just curious as to how tight those skins are, because that's a fat snare.
Bro your set is tuned, miced, and mixed perfectly (chefs kiss) ✨🤌🏾
It’s literally just a room mic😂
@@llRoBoBinHollI think he was high when he wrote that😂
But let's learn these "tricks" in context. What he's doing is using a down, rebound and controlled stroke, to get this effect. When you learn the proper sticking, you can incorporate it all over the kit. Not just in a specific area like this.
God bless you and God bless anyone reading this! Hope you have an awesome day! Seek him while you can! Jesus is the way and the only way and he is returning soon! Whenever you think you aren't loved... Remember the ultimate sacrifice was for love! ENDING YOUR LIFE IS NEVER THE ANSWER!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV
The wages of sin is death (hell) but Jesus paid our debt on the cross, for our salvation! We must turn to God and away from our sinful ways, Confess Jesus is Lord and believe with our hearts that he was risen from the dead by God, and we must be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit and live by His word and Commandments! Trust that God will help with the rest!
Seek God today before it's too late! Today could be your last day on earth!
Have a blessed day!
@@Boognish_ Well obviously. Most people aren't drummers.
@@Boognish_ ghost notes, there's your nugget, go research. So entitled.
Thank you OP for mentioning the context. This does expand on the topic and will help those who are open to learning.
I play strictly using only tricks. I only use typical movements to connect my tricks. Good for learning and practice.
Sounds cool but we have no idea what you're doing. Maybe exain? Reposition your camera maybe?
That Advanced something serious 😂🔥
What the hell does 'flick it' mean
That’s one hell of a jump from intermediate to advanced! Had my sticks on my bed playing along and was hyped with how easy the first two were. Third just made my mind go numb 😂 maybe I need to go to my actual kit to try it
To be fair… there’s a big difference between intermediate and advanced drummers. Even to compare low intermediate with high intermediate, or from mid intermediate with low advanced
A view from above, would perhaps make it more easy to learn..
Not sure if you hit it underneath or on top.
But it looks cool... the Bonham shuffle and Rosanna half time shuffle.. here we come
He's hitting the top.
@@ILikeWafflz I’m still not seeing it 🤣
@@youngdrowsy_ The best thing I can think of to explain it is to try watching at 0.5x speed and noting the hi-hat sound plays as his stick is going down.
@@ILikeWafflz how do you play a shorts vid at different speed?
@@TupDigital I use a "youtube shorts block" extension.
You can also do this manually by replacing the "shorts" in the URL with "watch".
Learning backsticking is such a game changer 🔥🔥
Learned this watching Matt Garstka. It saves you a lot more time than you would think, especially when you’re playing fast 😅
I’ve been playing drums for like 30 years and I keep watching it I’m like wait what how how
Those drums sound so nice. Studio quality
I can't tell what the trick is.
For those who want an explanation- he’s using his snare drum hand to hit the bottom of the high hat and make his patterns a little more flavorful, it’s more of a life hack than a flashy trick.
Aaah…
Mm I don’t think he’s hitting the bottom I think he’s still striking the edge downwards
Awesome! Can you do a video slowing down the advanced version?
As a drummer I thank you, I've played drums for over 20 years and never used that, so thanks bro. I'm from the States but I'm so appreciative of seeing this I'll say thanks mate!✌️💙
Omg, first time seeing people doing this trick on the Internet, never ever thought it would be in like a tips kind of video, props to you bro lol.
I loved Intermediate beat 😍
The SNAP in that snare is outta pocket🔥🔥
Ahh, don't worry, I'm sure they'll do better next time...
Looks like he was playing the drums for TLC waterfalls on that second
The second example though 😏
It's also cool - and makes certain things easier - to play the hats with your left hand. Adding add'l notes on the hh with your right hand is then fairly simple
last groove is so sick
I’ve been doing this for 15 years. Love it. I was never sure if others were doing it.
If anyone doesn’t get what he’s doing from the angle; all you do is hit the high hat with your left hand without un-crossing your arms. Just keep it where it is naturally.
Dude I swear I did this one day by accident and was like WHOA! years later I find this video, epic vid dude, expert level finesse on the last one!
Slaying it bro… good to see SA musicians taking things to the next level 🇿🇦
Those hit hats sound so fresh and so clean clean clean
I see what you did with the second demonstration 😏
I thought I was the only one 😂
Bass drum and snare drum sounding .perfect dudeeee fabulous sounding.....
I think this just comes naturally as you get better at minimalizing your movements.
My thoughts exactly, it comes naturally as you progress. Happy someone said it !
that last groove, absolutely obessesed, been practicing it for atleast a week or two
I actually have a 10 tight stack right under my high hat for this exact purpose then one on the left side of the hat for when both hands or on hat
Snare sounds sick
AMAZING!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!
This made me realize I’m still beginner drummer 😂🥲😭😢
Me too...after 12 years playing 😢
All comes down to the paradiddle😎
That IS a neat trick. Never seen that before. Thanks.
Touch of Class. I'm subscribing right NOW
That’s pretty cool thanks. Very helpful!
I’m also a drummer so this helps a lot, I used to use a lot of arm and now I’m doing something called the molar technique which uses a bit of arm but this seems much easier
Thank you vers mutch for the tips sir
The advanced one is fun to play
I use that technique all the time but that last part you did was just badass. I'm going to have to do my homework for that one
The set sounds fire .!
The snare sounds so freaking good
Your snare smacks! 💛🖤💛
Looks epic? Sounds epic!
Nice Snare sound 🤍
Very Steve Gadd, I love it!!!
this sounds amazing
This is really good my son is playing the drum thank you.
Yes 👏 these tricks actually help your body center better and you will have more controlled movements.
Awesome snare sound
I first saw this done by Larnell Lewis on Drumeo, and it blew my mind. Been doing it ever since.
I didn't even know this was a thing I've just been doing it ever since I was a kid it's really affective and looks way cooler
I like this, this is quite fun to do
intermediate: nostalgia from darker days, scouring a black and orange website
This is hot advice! Great stuff and studio practice info!! Excellent, mate!
THAT IS SO GOOD!!!!!
I use this all the time 🔥
Had to rewatch it a few times to double check wtf I'm looking at 🤣🔥
This dangerous song beat
Works when trying to do white zombie covers!
That intermediate beat though 😏
That sounds very cool!!
Awesome dude!!
Snare sounds nice...
this is dope af
The last one sounds like it’s straight out of driver 3
This is an old jazz technic played back in the 60's, 70's, 80's & 90''s especially with Steve Gadd, Harvey Mason & the badass Vinnie Colaiuta & many others.
Instead we executed this & a whole lot of other little smooth tricks by using the one & only Traditional Grip like it should be played with.
That's sick bro I'm practicing that today for sure
The advanced one looks like the sticks playing off each other while also hitting the hi-hat. Just looks plain cool
I tried doing that when I played drums before switching to guitar, made some pretty interesting beats indeed
I feel like this video let me into the secret wizard's club and the wizards are telling me all their cool sorcery secrets
That second groove that filthy
I tried this my neighbours started to complain
Great position of the camera!
WOWWW🤩🤩 you’re so good
Great help thans man
Did this accidentally once and now I use it all the time 😂
Dude, thats amazing! So simple. Suprised this isnt in a lesson video.
Great job.
That set sounds like a studio level isolated track. Very nice
Your the best teacher bro
Love it♥️
Love that snare
Great info. Been doing these hi hat tricks since watching Neil Peart in the 80's.💜☺👍
Omg that last beat was so hard dude.
And nice! 🤤
Sarcasm lol
I thought you were gonna rick roll me with the PHUB sound
😂😂😂😂😂 me too man😅
Oh That’s On Point
Muchas gracias excelente tecnica
I just love this tip
I can't fucking believe I never thought of doing this in 20 years. Damn.
That snare is punch
Okayyyyy thank youuu
Sounds badass
That’s exactly why a acoustic hi hat is way better then a electric. I have a Roland at church. It is nice and I can’t change the hi hat to just about anything but I feel like I lose immediate control. Same with cymbals I can make them sound so many different ways depending on how I hit it. But with electronic I got bell middle rim only and well if I hit it lighter isn’t as loud but it’s really limited
Cool example.
yea bro get it!
