I'm just happy that batman completely steered away from ONLY fighting crime, regardless of what kinda crimes committed andwith no regard to the science behind what drives people to do crimes in the first place.
Sure, I LOVE the old and new rogues gallery of supervillains,with their origin stories and grudges and all they are awesome...
but the regular criminal, doesn't act like weird bad guys from 80's movies written by frat boys whom the closest they're gotten to real crime is when they snorted coke with other rich fratboys or left a restaurant without paying.
Today's Batman explores socio-economics, the growing gaps between the rich and the poor, and how being poor can easily be a full time employe.
This comic has kept on growing and growing, getting more and more complexity, getting closer and closer to understanding the complexities or crime, the ultra Rich and how whole societies suffers from them gaming the system.

Indeed, the proposal is similar. These stories serve to make it clear that Batman also has his social work, in addition to fighting crime. The problem is that many people only see him as a vigilante, but we have several works that show this other side.
