Thank you very much
Such a beautiful floral painting ❤
Thank you
Lovely tutorial. I particularly like the work with liner brush - maybe because I am detail oriented and this was a good opportunity to apply some very fine work. I have watched this tutorial 3 times now so I guess I am ready to put brush to paper. Thanks, Vickie
I love using that brush. Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Thank you 😊
Hello Helen, as always I'm loving your weekly de- stress tutorials. Just watch in awe of your wonderful handling of this beautiful medium, which you make look easy, a true mark of a professional. I on the other hand are finding it totally the opposite. It seems behave like me at times, a naughtly boy, and wants to do its own thing. This is fine if you want to let go and see want comes. Still I persue it, and re watch your tutorials and make notes and just try be patient and relax. Probably what I need is 1-2-1 lessons to really get to understand and learn this very skillful craft. I tend to fall quickly back to graphite and coloured pencils, as there is greater control for me. Watercolour is a bit like trying walk on a tightrope feeling. Thanks again, Gary x
Hi Gary, and thank you very much for your kind words.
Remember, it takes time to learn watercolour, it took me ages, being self taught, I had no one to check whether I was doing it right, which I think was a double edge sword for me, in that if I’ve gone wrong, nobody knew LOL. Just practice when you can, and it will fall into place.
Hi Helen, yes I know your right in saying that it takes time and practice. I'm just get to impatient with it. Always trying to run before I can walk, a medium that won't be forgiving for that attitude. I will keep practicing I don't give up that easily. Could also be that I become alittle anxious of failure. Silly really I know. Anyway Helen thanks again, look forward to watching next week's tutorial. All the best. Gary
Hi Gary. You too. Take it easy and failure isn’t a thing. It’s all learning ok x
This is so beautiful. Lovely
Thank you 😊
beautiful rose

You are fantastic and your art is beautiful!
Very kind. Thank you 😊
so nice ❤️
Thank you
Helen, have you ever used ox gall to improve the flow (ofcourse in bit large sized paintings) and do you like mixing titanium white in your colors?
Hi. No I’ve never tried it. And yes I do like adding white to the colour. In fact I’ve just filmed a Patreon mini video doing just that 😀
@@helencampbell Well that's great. I create beautiful pastel colors using T.W. but did not actually use it. I will surely try it. Also checking your patreon page and will definitely join. 🙂
It’s great to experiment isn’t it? No rules here lol
@@helencampbell Yes, it is. I also think when I mix, it does look bit chalky. Also when companies make colors with PW6 they are less chalky or beautifully blended.
It can do but just a tiny bit works really well and gives a lovely soft pastel tone
Beautiful, I have not attempted wet on dry, it's a bit scary
Give it a try. You may really like it 💜
I probably struggle with a lot of things, but the one thing I notice again and again is values. I tend to have flat values.
It’s not easy to work them out for sure. It often helps to take a step back and really look to see if you can figure out if the pairing needs a darker value. If working from a photo, print it in black and white as that also helps
@@helencampbell By the time I step back it’s already too late to salvage 😂
😂🌸
I’m struggling with fear of failure. I messed up about a year ago and threw out so many paintings using my coloured pencils. I got very discouraged, shut the door on my studio and didn’t go in again until a year later. So what am I doing now. Drawing freehand the images in our fb group and then colouring in colouring books. I keep telling myself every day that today is the day I’m going to paint. But…. It never seems to happen. Gosh.
You know Elizabeth, this is so true of me too - so many times (when I started painting) I stopped, 'threw my brushes out' and decided it wasn't for me and I was 'rubbish' at it. But I loved painting and kept coming back to it - and guess what? the more I practiced the more I learned. I am autistic and struggle with things like colour wheels which is why I teach the way I teach - 'learn to paint as you paint' - it took the guesswork and stress out of 'learning'. You got this x
