Every Christmas Eve my family has a "Fezziwig" party and we play this movie twice and sing and dance along with the cast...Since the mid 1980's..It wouldn't be Christmas without it!!! Lots of food and drink, and some Sam Adams "Old Fezziwig Ale". Look forward to it every year!!
I agree with Markobonv. If I've ever attended a party this joyous, I regret to say I don't remember it. Fezziwig is evidently meant to look like Mr. Pickwick. What an underrated movie.
In this version, the part of Mrs. Fezziwig was played by Kay Walsh, who back in 1948 played Nancy in a famous non-musical version of Oliver Twist, opposite Alec Guinness (who played Marley's Ghost) as Fagin!
This is a great song from a movie that was hugely underrated when it was released. Since then it has been revived as a stage musical, I saw it in 2002 in Newcastle with Tommy Steele and then again last year in Sunderland with Michael Barrymore (and even he couldn't spoil it!)
Its Amazing how many lifes this movie has been a part of.....I first watched this sitting on my grandfathers lap,,,,,,And its been a tradition for everyone in my family ever since...sisters, neices, nephews, cousins everyone loves it. Gets you in the Christmas Spirit!........Albert Finney is Amazing as Scrooge!!!
Great comment, me too -- it's because they don't drop everything and sing at bizarre, inappropriate moments. I mean, this is the most coreographed scene of all, the music just flows and is part of the film, and the film is fantastic.
It's all about redemption and getting back to the important things. Love the party. Ebeneezer was already loosing his way as he couldn't do this dance that even Old Fizziwig and wife knew.
I disagree. There's still emotional intensity where it really matters. Such as when Cratchit visits Tim's grave or when Scrooge is redeemed. The break-up is quite good as well.
Now this is a Fezziwig shindig I could get into. One of my fav scenes in this movie cuz it's probably the best Fezziwig party I've seen in any version :)
this is still the BEST version of the Christmas Carol!
Agreed

I know it's July, but what the hell!
Of all the incarnations of Fezzywig, this one is the best!
I love this song, I wish everyday was December the 25th!
Always my favorite Christmas movie. I am lucky to have a really good digital copy of this classic. The colors are so amazing in all the scenes.
Today is Sunday 28 February 2021 - Only 300 Days Until Christmas 2021

I shoud add, for non-Brits, Steele & Barrymore were playing Scrooge, not my companions at the theatre! LOL

I just checked out Amazon. They still have lots of copies of it for under $10.00. That's how I got mine, in fact.
