The best scene of personal redemption and transformation ever.

I absolute agree. He came back from Hell and is so relieved, he is ready to start his life all over.

@@foxteen8721 Of course, the framing and set design of hell makes the allegory even more direct. He was in hell all along, and now knows happiness because he has resolved to live his life with a propose beyond himself.

Best performance, ever. Albert Finney is a master at his craft. He is truly inspiring in all scenes and in this scene in particular he shines as the example for all actors to aspire to. Love that man. :)

Scrooge has always been my favorite version of A Christmas Carol. Not only is the music good and Albert Finney does a wonderful job. But after the spirits' visit, Albert Finney does the most wonderful job of showing someone who has found their salvation and is starting anew. In other versions they are mostly walking about talking about the change, (even when they are singing) but Albert Finney is practically singing it on the mountains.

Brilliant music, brilliant actor, I have wept at this scene every time I've played it. The de rigeur "Christmas Carol" movie, beloved by my nephew--now a 33-year-old--since his boyhood. A masterpiece.

This film brings back warm memories. The best musical version of Dickens' "ghostly little book" ever. Finney was superb in this - and this sequence never ceases to make me weep.
    Merry Christmas!!!

This version shows best the progress of redemption. The stages he goes through on his journey is subtle and shows progress. He isn't just a angry jerk till the end. He actually changes by degree.

The words to Begin Again make me really sentimental. It’s beautiful and heartfelt to hear Scrooge put to words what’s in his heart. It’s moving and my favorite part in the musical. It’s one of my favorite versions of the story.

Its so funny that of all of the songs that we could have come to on Finney's death we came to this one. Something about finishing 'on a strong Amen'. Most of us probably saw this when we were kids.

I think that this film does it better than any other I've seen. The redemption of this man and the way it's just so....human I guess. It's hard to put your finger on it. It could be that music lows you to convey feelings in a way that just words can't do. It hits different

Truly love this bit, and yes, he is opening many curtains and allowing the light in. I just watched this version after having watched Reginald Owen, Alistair Sim (the best performance-wise) and Patrick Stewart, but the finale from here on had me in tears, save for the return to Thank You very Much (I was probably cried out), then started up when he said 'Merry Christmas' in the crowd and happily made his way home.
I'll give it to Sim, but this one is truly my favorite in spirit, effect, performance.
I've just now realized it is missing my favorite scene of all Scrooges; the charwoman, the laundress and the undertaker with Old Joe. But Thank You Very Much truly carries all that impact as well.

That's because they sort of reversed the whole Christmas Future sequence. In the book, Scrooge knows someone no one liked has died, but not that it's him. In this movie, on the other hand, he knows he's done something people are praising him for, he just doesn't know it was dying.

Gotta read the book man... Scrooge thought he was being noble. He loves his money so much that he refuses to spend it on things like decoration. It's his thought that poor people waste their money and thats why they are poor. So by being frugal and spartan he is being a good example. Instead it just makes him old and bitter.

I acne hear after finding out the Netflix adaptation of this story used this song and… I’m sorry, it may be bc I didn’t grow up on this but I… hate this version of the song?? I don’t like when a song happens and there’s barely any vocals. It’s just acting, not vocal acting.
