As someone who lives in Europe i only know things simmilar to HOAs in blocks of flats, and they actually do a good job repairing and improving them. It is worrying how the same concept is poorly executed in US suburbs.
The problem with HOAs comes from many fronts - First, they may start out with good intentions, but often become run by petty dictators who get high on control. Second, they have entirely too much authority to levy fines, including putting liens or even foreclosing on homes. Third, if they are run by a management company, there is very little recourse to address mistakes or mitigate fines because it's a profit generator for the company. Basically, HOAs are like loan sharks: they seem like a good idea at first, but quickly devolve into a blood bath if the tiniest thing goes wrong.
@@luvnotvideos yea, that is the thing, here in Europe communities manage only communal spaces, and they can report to building managers or authorities if something is very wrong, but can never issue fines, especially by themselves.

I love my HOA. They plant flowers throughout the neighborhood every spring. They maintain our clubhouse, pool, neighborhood park, lake and tennis courts. They also keep out solicitors and make sure everyone maintains their homes and yards properly. I bought my house 7 years ago for $550K and it currently appraises for $975K, thanks in large part to the HOA.
The walkway looks beautiful!! ❤
HOAs are just a second income stream for the property development company that puts together the housing development. Once the HOA transitions over to the home owners the developers still make money because they own the property management company that they hire to run the HOA for the home owners. In most areas they aren't required to disclose this, even to the home owners.
Recently learned this. What a joke. Although they do have to still keep closely in touch with local laws, so would the home owners if there weren’t any HOA to begin with
The HOA doesnt have to use that property management company. If the board is too damn dumb to shop around - whose fault is that?
Total misinformation. Any board is free to hire whatever management company they choose. Stop spreading lies.

Well.. You might but that's probably for either one of two reasons.. A) Either you are friends with the HOA board or B) you haven't run into something you want to do to your house but they keep denying it even though there is no good reason for that denial like planting a tree of native species on your backyard.

That sounds like a landlord
@@411Adidas it is simmilar, but there is sort of a landlord who manages the building inside a City agency, and there also is a resident run system for making repairs and stuff
@@411Adidas landlord is for the individual flat/unit/apartment. In the type of building or complex referred to, landlord responsible for internal only.
