The tax increase on driving a car with a larger engine displacement gives me a whole different outlook on economical class when I see a car driving in Japan.
@@onionkekw4832 Not sure what you mean by "road tax" but here in the US... well, at least in Illinois because every state has their differences, the only taxes you pay are the going retail tax rate for the vehicle purchase, which is the same tax percentage you'd pay on a cheeseburger. The registration, and maybe a city sticker depending what town/city you live in. Registration is more for SUV's, vans, and pickup trucks I think, but nothing unbearable.

Wrong. Anytime the road has any curves whatsoever, I would not want a massive lump of Mopar iron in front of me. THEN I want a Mopar (but I still want it behind me)😉
finally somebody brings this topic up, I’ve been to japan a couple of times and noticed that they are actually have a thing for the “american pride” culture
There is nothing surprising about this. This has been going on for decades. When I worked at a Chevy store back in 1987 a Japanese buyer came over and bought 10 step side pick ups. They were anything from 2 1956 Fords to some '70s and '80s trucks. They also bought a few new Pontiac Fiero Gts, we also had a Pontiac store, which I had to modify to comply with their laws there. I heard stories from way back about the Japanese taking their old American cars, like a 1959 Cadillac, out for a Sunday drive collectively, shutting down the highway and having lunch on the hoods of their cars. There should be nothing surprising about something that has been happening for a long time.
They are also really into American Vans. If you haven't seen them, look them up. They go all out customizing them. Some of them get very serious about racing them, and they have racing series and you can find videos of them racing hard as hell in empty and heavily modified cargo vans.

111000 YEN is around 1000 dollars to drive a 6.0 liter engine car. That's peanuts, in my country which is considered by much 3rd world you would pay 2000+ dollars. And in more civilized European countries it would be around 5000 USD per year road tax.
guess it's not that bad since regular normal registration in Texas is almost $100. i would be that rebel in a Humvee driving down the streets of japan, if it's not a humvee, then it would be an F-350 long bed, or perhaps the conservative Excursion.
That's just the road tax. There are other fees involved in keeping a car on the road there, too. Not to mention gas prices that tare regularly 2x as much as those in the US. Most people who own one of those bigger displacement vehicles will be paying a shop $2k+ every couple years to keep the car up to spec and registered as road worthy. I had the cheapest possible car, a Honda Today kei car that qualifies as a van due to its cargo space. Doing everything myself and the optional 'user registration', I paid about $275 every 2 years to keep it road worthy.

When I was living in Tokyo I was very surprised when I seen a Dodge Nitro there, especially considering that a lot of streets there are narrow, hence the popularity of kei cars in Japan. A big piece of Detroit steel lumbering down a Japanese side street just looks odd. I did see a lot of high end European brands, though, and quite a few Lamborghini's. As a japanese, there are only a few American cars in japan. They are very expensive. It was always the other way around.
Fzrsyndical very very few?
I remember a few American vehicles at Japan in a EF Tour years ago. A black '05 mustang, a 90s Tahoe, and a Dodge Ram in Tokyo. Its very rare to encounter those vehicles.
There are literally hundreds of American muscle cars at the Mooneyes shows in Japan. All Americans don't really love Japanese cars either, just the silly kids. The Japanese cars are all slower, unreliable and don't last as long. My 73 Mustang still runs and drives with the original engine but I've never seen a Japanese car that old running on the original build.

The tax increase on driving a car with a larger engine displacement gives me a whole different outlook on economical class when I see a car driving in Japan.
How do you guys measure road tax? Or do you even have road tax? My country's road tax is similar to Japan's.

Skyline engine in a mustang still bothers me
I loved that mustang! I love American muscle cars, but the idea of having a nissan engine in a mustang wasn't because shaun wanted a nissan engine it's because it was what was available for him. Heck if I had a rolling chassis and parts laying around I would have done the same. But yes on some cars it is understandable to swap engines from other manufacturers like in drifting an LS in a JDM because reliability, power, ligntweight, but on some cars I would prefer to keep stock or keeping engine and drivetrain within the same manufacturer.

When I was over in Japan, saw some dude with a modded Chevy truck, styled after the low-rider scene. As a Californian, I gave him a thumbs up and praised his truck. He was beyond stoked to get compliments from a American. Saw lots of modern modded Challengers, Chargers and Mustangs while heading to Super Autobacs near the Wangan loop entrance. Im just surprised how the hell they fit in the narrow streets of Japan.

Most people who own one of those bigger displacement vehicles will be paying a shop $2k+ every couple years to keep the car up to spec and registered as road worthy.
