- Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1666, assigned to Naval Beach Unit (NBU) 7, enters the well deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).
The LCU is a type of boat used by amphibious forces to transport equipment and troops to the shore. They are capable of transporting tracked or wheeled vehicles and troops from amphibious assault ships to beachheads or piers. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing...)
USS Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), is operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.

I was on an LST in the vietnam war, war we had what we called a papa boat that carried troops, supplies, and munitions up the rivers to some our operations. They were about a third of the size of an LCU. Brought back memories!
Well crap. We went to Vieques on an LST in 1970 and had to climb down cargo rope ladders into a landing craft in 4 to 6 foot swells. I remember the chief said, "don't jump, wait for the boat to come up to you." Good times in San Juan later.
Never seen one of those. Engineman, worked on Mike 3s, 6s, and 8s. The 8s used in Vietnam as monitors. 1971.
THE MEMORYS. I WAS ON THE USS FORT FISHER LSD. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO.
LCU 1666 it’s probably one of the most popular landing craft in the UA-cam channel, lol
Brings back old memories .
The fact that this ship may never sail again...
That ship is long gone unfortunately.
While the US is busy burning its LHD's the Chinese are building type 075 LHD's in under a year build time.
I remember a FT article that first mentioned the type 075 and the speed with which the Chinese were building them and a American wrnt 'but they don't have good firefighting equipment'. Uhhh...
@@rolandxor179 Very new developments are forcing radical changes. I have links if interested.
Brings back memories of when I was on the USS Nassau
I betcha the US Marines of WW 2 And the Korean War, would have loved the LCU's of today as well as the USS BON HOMME RICHARD, the ease of movement within the is superb! :o)
I was on the uss bonhomie Richard
You mean the Army during WW2. The Army did the D-Day landings on Normandy Beaches.
Reminds me of the good old days...good I loved doing that as a MARINE
n s you want some MREs from the old days too?
MRE = Massive Rectal Explosion
Love it !
Love the bags.. 👌
I guess that's just how the cookie crumbles??? The guys coming off the boat had to run through water & the new boarding guys had a dry deck, lol. I guess it takes a while to drain the "well", if that's what it's called....how long does it take to dry or fill with water?? Cool vid & THX to all our mil members, your all appreciated.
Our American brothers in arms! 💪
They no you brother, they are no kolony
Served at ACU-1 1987-1992 it was a blast
I was there at that time, I was in LCM dept and went to the gulf war on them.
That thing could use some wicked graphics to go along with that number.
They made us paint them over, I was on LCU 1661 the "Ghost Rider". A skeleton in a tattered uniform holding a spoked ships wheel. During the Gulf War, Lots of soldiers would take pictures of it.

Be interested to find out in what sea states these can operate .
My old man was WW2 Royal Navy on Assault landing craft and said they tried out a docking ship , he said it was almost impossible to use in any thing approaching a rough sea and unlike the US Higgins he had the advantage of twin engines to manoeuvre with.
Lee B it can operate up to sea state 3 and 4 it's alot longer and wider then the ww2 boats it holds alot more weight and troops and also operate further out to sea to avoid sea missles
How big does a wave have to be at the crest to allow the tracks of a M-60 tank to lift off the deck 5 inches...we got caught in a storm that had 80 to 100 footers trough to crest..and then 25foot surf.. dropping off Tanks on the beach.. terrifying sea state..
all that work and you get they're feet absolutely soaked as soon as they get on board lmao 1:07
Did this as a crew of BMU-1 back in 2011

Totally awesome ship or boat and carrying those heavy trucks or machines by the way how much do those weigh ??any way ...great job on this video too..thank you so much
The Vessel weighs 180 Tons...can carry 3 M60 tanks or 400 troops...I was stationed at ACU 1 Coronado Amphib Base back in 1981 to 1984..LCU 1616..1617..1648...1630..1632...and 1633..I could tell you some stories...been to places that had the mark of "Kilroy was Here"..The vessel has 5 50cal pedestals...has its own armory...we kept a M60 on board strapped to the deck with it's tank crew..as a weapon platform...did the Granada thing and the Beirut thing...with the 22MEU...I remember eating dinner on the 66..Craftmaster Dumas....
@@billyjoejackson5477 WOW that's pretty cool of you thank you so much I greatly appreciate it
It's called a Vessel..not a boat...they weigh 180 Ton..an M-60 tank 60ton..we carried 3 M-60 tanks..that total..360ton..the LVT weigh 40ton..

Here is to the U.S Army Paratroopers saying to the U.S Marines....come on in,is safe now since we drop yesterday afternoon!..lol...let me hear you Devil Dogs!?
Mario Soto Hear this...
We both are fine fighting organizations that have great reputations that we earned, and rich histories that are known worldwide.
We both attract young men with a desire to take the fight to the enemy and act or react aggressively in a combat situation. Look at the LGOP concept, or the fact Marines attack head on into enemy beaches.
We both have higher standards than the regular Army.
We both have to have a higher state of readiness to deploy quicker than the regular Army, and we have our own capabilities of doing so (GRF/ DRB, MEU/ SPMAGTF, etc.)
We both have specialized methods of getting to the fight that require more training and sustainment to effectively employ than what the regular Army goes through (Basic Airborne Course, Scout Swimmer Course, etc.)
We both turn into normal infantry when we hit the ground. This also means that our capabilities that make us what we are are also very niche/ specific, and aren’t going to be used in every situation. That doesn’t mean they should get rid of either of us though.
As a US Marine, I would love nothing more than to train with our Paratrooper brothers, and while your average US Marine and Paratrooper does not have to go through the same hard training and lifestyle as a Ranger, we both are probably the best conventional units the entire US has to offer. The 2nd MarDiv and the 82nd Airborne are both in NC. I see no reason why they can’t make time to detach some elements to meet up once a year at minimum to train and share TTP’s. To share in each other’s knowledge and lessons learned. To break down pre-existing barriers and stop the spread of misinformation by establishing enduring professional and personal relationships for the day we go down range and end up fighting together. If anything, we should both be in a sort of American “Rapid Reaction Corps” like France has. We are more alike than we are different.
By the way, did you know the USMC had it’s own parachute training school at one point, and that we also do not need resupply after three days unlike you Army cats do after dropping in? Semper Fi Brother. I know we always trade banter back and forth but at the end of the day you Paratrooper cats have earned your respect and reputation. It is an honor to stand side by side with the Army and it’s Airborne troopers. Steel sharpens steel.
look like the ones from d day, but bigger.

I wonder if a lot of the ship and LDH crew talk shit as the marines are boarding their craft like
"How about those Cowboys SSGT?"

Funny, I did not see any females walking up that ramp with the packs only horses or mules should have to carry. I suppose when the Marins bring in infantry females, they will get them shopping buggies or quads to carry their gear.

They don't do wet well operations in stormy weather, people and machinery can get damaged.

Snake_whisperer I believe the Marines are experimenting with silencers to test if they improve communication
