Zangief’s new look fits his personality so much better. There’s a level of toughness on both versions but the old Zangief’s face didn’t match his more uplifting personality, whereas the new one does so perfectly. They really went all out on the characters.
Gief got a massive glowup i feel. it was a smart choice to lean more into his wrestling as it compliments him alot and gives him more character and charm. he's always working up the crowed and his training cutscene in world tour is incredibly wholesome with how much he's cheering you on.
What i love about new Gief is that he still retains his iconic expressions while looking damn good. It helps that I love his voice both English and Japanese
Yeah, like prior to now I didn't know Zangief was meant to be a good guy (in no small part because he's always placed in the position of a villain in stuff but thats beside the point) but now from just looking at him I can get that he's a hammy, nice dude whos just really REALLY enthusiastic
I like the cartoonish style better, but i have to say making more detailed and somewhat "realistic" versions especially face details of the classic characters we all know was a huge challenge that could easily look uncanny and they absolutely crushed it. Zangief, Dhalshim, Cammy, Blanka they all look really good very convincing.
I just love the fact the devs will go far to also add much more better facial expression even though sometimes we won't be able to see it. Just shows how the character feelsin sf6
the amount of expression goes into Ryu's outro alone is still insane to me. it really breathes life into him when you can see him going from a tense and fierce expression to a more calmed and determined look.
This a pretty big deal cause in SF4 when a shoto fires a hadoken, you can clearly tell the character is animated to say. “Hado-“, but then goes blank face because their shoulder cover their mouth when they say “ken”. I’m sure 99% of people didn’t notice it, but I sure did and it drove me crazy.
Something I want to point out in the transition to SFV to 6, is you can *hear* how much better the voice direction is in 6, that is a genuine glow up too
Apart from just the graphics, it's amazing how much better the character proportions are in SF6. Everyone has relatively normal hand sizes and no more exaggerated giant hands. Gief looks big in SFV but his body and neck looks so stretched. Everyone just looks so much more natural in 6
they clearly did alot of work in how muscles are supposed to be modeled. just looks at the difference beween guiles giant weird ball muscles on his shoulders compared to SF6 having a more proportional shoulders that more accurately go with his traps and back muscles

@@yimur5062 "In the very early stages of development, we actually put together a build of Street Fighter V that was rendered in photorealistic graphics, but when we did, we realized that it just wouldn't be Street Fighter without the bold, anime-esque look and feel to the game, so we decided to shelve the whole photorealism idea altogether." -Koichi Sugiyama (Street Fighter V Producer) Ironically this isn't the first time that they went directly against what they'd previously said was 'wrong' in the very next game and did it in SFV too. During SF4's development they messed with the idea of Cody being able to pull out a knife but felt it was wrong and wouldn't be Cody without the knife on the ground. Also they'd planned on putting in Final Fight Cody but decided to add criminal Cody due to feeling he was more popular. Both times the original thought was the correct one. Tekken-esque realism was wrong way to go with SF and should have stuck to the SF3 or SFAlpha anime direction. Also should have gone back to hand done animations instead of motion capture, imo.
Capcom had definetely perfected their exagerated human proportion art style in SF6. everyone looks natural yet the expressive proportions and facial expression are absolutely spot on.
actually i have the same opinion and didnt know how to explain that little detail, i mean, the winning pose is amazing in SF6, but at least for me their idle pose when u look at them for the front side made them look like idiots, idk how to explain that, in SFV their pose is more like realistic, for example, while ryu's idle pose in SFV looks amazing in front view, in SF6 ryu's idle pose moves too much his shoulder, like wtf who moves his shoulder like that when fighting? in the front view perspective some of the sf6 characters looks like idiots for me, thats all.
Holy shit I didn't realize how much of Luke they carried over between like 5 and 6. All the way down to the idle animations. You could /tell/ these two Lukes were developed at the same time Also I really wouldn't mind seeing his actual classic MMA outfit from 5 return. Would love to see how it looks in 6
his animations are a great showcase for all the extra facial animation flourishes that were added in 6. instead of a mostly static expression, the characters actually move their mouths and vary their expressions, and it's extremely apparent with luke in this vid.
When they first announced Tekken x Street Fighter I thought, there's no way they can make the Street Fighter Characters not look weird in the Tekken style and I still thought the same during SFV. SF6 now makes me believe it can work, I can see these character models in the Tekken 8 engine. I love everything about this game.
@@Pestigirioso Not in the traditional sense, but it has been mentioned numerous times by both series directors (mainly Harada) that it does exist in some form but is currently in dev limbo because of the timings of SF6 and T8's release and just general lack of faith in it selling well.
Luke’s glow up in SF6 from SF5 is one of the best in video gaming history. ChunLi’s smile in SF6 is so cute too! So nice to see her looking happy for a change, given her tragic past.

I definitely prefer the brighter lime green colour of Cammy’s thong leotard in SFV compared to her darker more subdued coloured and duller swamp green thong leotard in SF6. The colour seems to pop out more and is much more vibrant.
I think both have their strengths. SF6 has a more realistic artstyle and that reflects in the darker green leotard which better conveys that's she's military that in previous street fighters.
I love the new OLD ONES! Retro beyond imagination! This calls out to my nostalgic heart! Born in 1981 I had the honor an privilege to play what some would call the true vanilla of Street Fighter 2 in an arcade. Like the good old days.
I'm in awe how much the model and proportion has improved. For example, Dee Jay's face looks very good and realistic, Honda looks more like a Sumo wrestler, Zangief's torso is much much better, Blanka becomes less gnarly and more monkey-like, Cammy's lip expression now being an important part of her, that sort of stuff :)
I agree with almost all those things except Blanka. They did my guy dirty making him look more like a monkey. Hate that and his overalls. Prob the worst take out of all the characters. Everyone else looks great thou.
SF6 is how Street Fighters would look like in the Resident Evil universe, especially Ryu, Chun Li and Blanka could pass for Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine and a goofy looking Hunter.
Some characters feel improved, while others look kinda ridiculous between installments. I like the majority of the characters in 6, however. Namely, I love the presentation in their end-screens. It's apparent that characters like Luke, for instance, look better with a more stylized carton appearance, and ironically, characters like Deejay who were oversaturated with exaggerated aesthetic feel much better toned down.
there’s something truly amazing about the new art direction. re engine is so powerful, all the characters just look great. the quality of the clothes is incredible and mixed with the evolution of the character stories, they’re all more badass

I prefer the aesthetic of 5. Some of the characters in 6 look really awkward, like Guile and Cammy. A lot of the personality has been lost in the transition from 5 to 6. Doesn't help they de-boobed most of the Women, either.
God sf6 feels like a masterclass on character modeling. All the models look so good and the small physics detail are nuts. The way how the muscles shake and giggle. And how they mangage to very accurately simulate muscle tension and veins popping when muscles flex. Also more silly but its so cool to see the men boobs giggle and not just the woman's.
@@gokublack3107 I've got a theory about the realistic proportions... they haven't done it since Capcom vs SNK2. There were rumors they were making Capcom vs SNK3. These realistic proportions would work better with the SNK characters. Also they just look better in general.
I know a lot of people think SFV's graphics are horrible, but I'm impressed by how consistent the appearance of the characters is despite the different angles and types of lighting. which ends up being the opposite for SF6 where the game is either super beautiful, or ends up being weird.
A lot of the stances and poses just look better on SF5. Also, it looks like there's more life on the hair, especially the front, like Cammy and Chun Li..
Looking at the graphics, it's like it's two different franchises. Hard to tell what game actually looks better. Either you like the cartoon style or the more realistic real-life style more.
I think the more cartoonish style, fits Street Fighter better. But there's one or other that I liked best on SF6 (Chun-Li, Ryu, Zangief and Dee Jay). I hope that SF7 brings back the cartoon art.
I kind of liked how buff and ripped they made Cammy in SFV, it really added more variety to the female character physiques. I also notice Juri isn’t as curvy as she was in 5, not that it’s a bad thing just an observation.
Actually I feel that with SFV they made the same female physique one thousand times: Ripped, big boobs, big bum. In SF6 the female characters are way different compared to each other. From the hulking Marisa, the small Lilly, slender Cammy, Super Super-Model Manon, and and and. Street Fighter 6 really feels like a celebration of different bodies to me.
@@MangaMarjan I can actually see the differences in SFV. Chun Li had the biggest legs(obviously), Cammy was the most ripped, Mika had the most muscle mass out of all the females, and Akira was the most petite. The rest seemed to be thick to various degrees from Sakura to Poison, but that’s just my observation. Don’t get me wrong, the differences in SF6 are more noticeable but I just preferred Cammy’s physique in 5.
My feeds have all been comparisons of characters from Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat and it's honestly just SO wild to see how far we've come (even when just comparing the last couple games of each franchise). WOW!
I'll never understand how capcom has some of the best anime artists to ever live, with a history of the best pixel art.... and went towards realism with their art direction. It's deplorable
I might be completely alone here, but I think the SFV models are better overall. Something about the graphics and detailing in those models look more refined and timeless to me while there's a bit of uncanny valley on the newer ones and these graphics are probably gonna look dated in about 5 years. And i know some people are saying the newer ones are better because they have "realistic proportions" honestly it makes the characters look less visually interesting. Would you wanna play a dragon ball z game where all the characters look more human and realistic? I don't think so.
Fully agree with you. Sf5 design is really faithful to sf and beautiful. Sf6 has too much muscle, and realistic as in dull. All Sf6 has is technical improvements, art is worse. People are blindfolded by newness.
The only con for SF6 is that the lighting is much different in cinematics, which is also far better. During actual gameplay, something looks a bit off about them
@@sfplayer1234 I honestly think it's the lighting. Even custom made characters look way better in cutscenes. Sad, considering MK11 came out 4 years ago and looks far better. I love SF6, but expected it to look at least as good
The game was made for PS4 too, let's not forget that. I wish it was a next gen game, but their decision will help the franchise in the sales department.
I play more Tekken personally, but came by this video and honestly prefer the same.. cartoony just fits better and Cammy got big f&@king rack in SFV over SF6 😂
Gotta say, I'm not really digging the new "realistic" look. I do like the body tweaks they made to Dahlsim, Zangief and Honda, but everything else, especially the faces are just throwing me. I mean c'mon, Ken just looks like Leon S. Kennedy with a beach boy haircut at this point.
The biggest upgrade is Ken, they really botched his face in SFV. I prefer Juri's and Chun Li's look in SFV instead. E.
I mean SFV Zangief is The most handsome version I've ever seen

Agreed. I love how he looks more and more like a Russian Bluto. Definitely adds to his wrestler persona.
I had no idea Luke winked at his opponent during his idle motion lol. That's so Luke
Right? I didn't even know Luke winks at his opponent in his idel animation. It's so minor but so cool to me

Something I want to point out in the transition to SFV to 6, is you can *hear* how much better the voice direction is in 6, that is a genuine glow up too
IIRC, a lot of characters have new voice actors. I think the only returning voice actors are for Ryu, Cammy, Juri, Zangief, and E.Honda..

"In the very early stages of development, we actually put together a build of Street Fighter V that was rendered in photorealistic graphics, but when we did, we realized that it just wouldn't be Street Fighter without the bold, anime-esque look and feel to the game, so we decided to shelve the whole photorealism idea altogether." -Koichi Sugiyama (Street Fighter V Producer)
Ironically this isn't the first time that they went directly against what they'd previously said was 'wrong' in the very next game and did it in SFV too.
Agreed

Capcom had definetely perfected their exagerated human proportion art style in SF6. everyone looks natural yet the expressive proportions and facial expression are absolutely spot on.
I prefer sf6 models, especially faces, but honestly I still find sfv posings and idle animations more convincing
actually i have the same opinion and didnt know how to explain that little detail, i mean, the winning pose is amazing in SF6, but at least for me their idle pose when u look at them for the front side made them look like idiots, idk how to explain that, in SFV their pose is more like realistic, for example, while ryu's idle pose in SFV looks amazing in front view, in SF6 ryu's idle pose moves too much his shoulder, like wtf who moves his shoulder like that when fighting? in the front view perspective some of the sf6 characters looks like idiots for me, thats all.

Luke SFV was a testbed for a lot of SF6's mechanics, you could consider the character a back-port
his animations are a great showcase for all the extra facial animation flourishes that were added in 6. instead of a mostly static expression, the characters actually move their mouths and vary their expressions, and it's extremely apparent with luke in this vid.
