    My father, born October 27, 2008, in the German province of Volhynia (southwestern Ukraine) was deported at the start of WWI all the way to Orenburg, north of Kazakhstan. Thus he learned to speak Russian perfectly.
    Before he died so long ago (January 29, 2002), he would sing all day Christian hymns in German but also Russian folk songs. He had a beautiful strong voice. I will forever miss him, as well as my mother who died years before him (April 18, 1993) and often also sang all day.
    I honor their memory by singing their favorite hymns and folk songs. Since yesterday I've been practicing Evening Bells and do my best to sing it in Russian. Will never come close to Ivan Rebroff; my absolute favorite. The way he sings it brings tears to my eyes and I find it to be the most beautiful tune there is.
    I also like to sing Thomas Moore's version.

      Nice tale about your father. Born in 2008 and died in 2002. Reincarnation by time machine. There is no Thomas Moore version. Music is created by Russians but they took Thomas's lyric and translated with some changes which should match the music. Then some guys nowadays took this Russian music and sang it with Thomas's lyric, why? Because music was nice, why to make the other if that is so nice. Simple as that.

    Those evening bells, those evening bells!
    How many a tale their music tells,
    Of love, and home, and that sweet time,
    When last I heard their soothing chime.
    Those joyous hours are passed away;
    And many a heart, that then was gay,
    Within the tomb now darkly dwells,
    And hears no more those evening bells.
    And so ’twill be when I am gone;
    That tuneful peal will still ring on,
    While other bards shall walk these dells,
    And sing your praise, sweet evening bells!
