DON'T Buy a Soprano Ocarina (at first)

- Soprano Ocarinas are great, but I wouldn't recommend them to a starter for these 3 reasons:
1. Ergonomics
2. Loudness
3. Squeaking
It really comes down to comfortability to play and safety for your ears. It's much easier to get accustomed to a Soprano C after playing on an Alto C ocarina first!

I started on a soprano. I would practice in the park and you could hear Epona's song within like a mile radius
I would’ve loved to watch the ocarina band
Freckled Zelda spotted in the wild 😳
I would love to be in one 😊 I think learning the techniques other ocarinists use could help me play my ocarinas better 🙂
Omg 😱 its zelda!!!
@@-_-Potato_Wedge-_- I've seen Freckled Zelda on America's Got Talent, and she was amazing! 🥰 I loved her ocarina playing 🎵🎶 Her singing was nice too, but I really like ocarinas 🥰 My favorite instrument 😊
@@ZeldaACFan17 100% agreed she has a great voice and ocarinas are amazing!!!
My first ocarina is a soprano, because when I first bought it, I didn’t know there were different types of ocarinas. Hopefully I don’t blow my ears out.
As long as you ease upward on breath pressure (start soft, slowly add more to get tuning, etc), you can avoid the risk! I simply think Altos are generally better for beginners
I bought a Hind Soprano from Charlie Hind about 3 years ago. I had it made from Corian. I love the way it sounds and the way it feels in the hand when I'm playing it. Have not had it squeak since i got it. Its a low breath pressure Ocarina and is great to play except when I try to play fast tunes with it; its slips out of my hands. But I would rate it a 1000000 out of 10 for quality as well as sound.
Hi! My first Ocarina is the night by noble you recommended and its great! I got it about a week ago! Maybe you should post lessons!! Thank you so much!
On a night I couldn't sleep I did a impulse buy. Wish me luck with my new soprano c ocarina. 😅
I love and hate at the same time that you can play All-Star on the ocarina
my first ocarina is a soprano. i play ukulele, guitar, and clarinet and i have VERY small hands so hopefully ill be okay ☹️
My ears are sensitive to high pitched sounds, so the lower pitched an instrument is, the more I'll enjoy playing it 🙂
Alto, Tenor, and Bass ocarinas are the ones I like most, because of the lower pitches of the notes 😉
Same
Same here so that's why i won't get a soprano because it would be like stabbing a knife in my ears and also i find in this video that i like the sound of the Alto more too as well@@ZeldaACFan17
While ogres have layers, do ocarinas have layers Onion boy? :)
Hello, I just bought a 12 hole soprano ocarina, the truth is it is my first ocarina and I don't really know how to start since apparently the sound of a soprano ocarina is very different from the others :(
Can't wait till Wednesday.
My ocarina (hopefully) gets here by then
Never would have expected to hear All Star played on an ocarina. Nice!
Your explanations are perfect and I like your sense of humor 😀
I love my sopranino and my infinitesimal 😊
At first, i bought i think alto ocarina for about 6 dollars, it actually wasn't that bad. But now, i got the songbird osawa soprano, and it's just amazing! I never thought that istrument for 25 bucks can be this good! Now i am practicing songs that i just coudln't do before, because the high notes just didnt go very well. And i haven't sqeaked yet :)
Somebody once told me
hands off my macaroni
I have very small hands, like kindergartners have bigger hands than I do, so playing a soprano would probably be easier than the Alto C’s that I’ve been playing.
my first soprano ocarina was a wooden ocarina wind soprano I have never squeaked it compared with a plastic one which I have squeaked the loudness is abou the same but be sure to clean it first if you get one mine had a bit of wood in the mouth piece left over from when it was made
He thirsty for subs I have been convinced. I am now subbed
0:26 *Shows off the Navy Blue Brio Soprano* Andy, I still have that ocarina to this very day.
I just got a 4 hole pendant. Does that have the same problems?😳
SHREKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
My Wife has many Ocarinas, and there a few sizes smaller than Soprano, and yes they can Squeak. Our Dogs don't like the smaller ones much, but Soprano, and up they like. Bass Ocarinas are nice, but they will hurt your arms.
What about a soprano being the second to have? I have a comfort ability on finger alignment... and my first was a alto C
Rock starrr 🌟 😍😍
I’ve got a question.. How do you learn songs that you are interested in learning? Do u read musical notes?
my first ocarina was an ocarina of crap... but i just ordered a night by noble
i'm watching this video literally 3h after getting my first ocarine which is a soprano ahah :( i hope it will be okay :(
Same haha 😅 I hope it worked out for you!
@@erynnmusic I just cancelled my order and got an alto ocarina... and I think I did the best thing because even the alto sometimes hurts my ears as a beginner... I hope you will be able to learn without hurting your ears :) 🥰
I wish they make plastic ocarinas in a lower pitch. Even if it is still in the alto range like Bb.
Can you pleaseeee do a video on different ocarina makers? :)
I bought an alto too big for my hand. I prefer soprano
buying a soprano c first is almost like buying a piccolo first
I can agree with you on the piccolo idea. I got a Hall Crystal Piccolo and threw against the wall. Tried for 5 months every day and couldn't get a note right out of it. Drove me crazy. (Hence the wall incident)
@@tmack281 i've played the flute for years and my first day of piccolo i couldn't get it to sound either.
I just bought my first ocarina and it is a soprano c. I started with that one cause I didn’t want to start out with something expensive if I didn’t intend on using it again. I have pretty big hands, and I can play my tiny 6 hole ocarina just fine. It is loud, kind of an annoying sound but I knew that was gonna happen cause it is a soprano I did lots of research on them before I bought one. Either way I still love it and I hope to get the different ones. I love instruments and music. Loud or not, I’m sure I’ll still love it.
I love your channel
Too late, lol
the song you played is All-Star by Smash mouth
What if I want to start with a bass?
Basses require more breath to fill the larger chamber of the instrument, and they're also generally significantly more expensive than Alto Cs because they're larger. They *can* work for beginners, but but Alto C is the most accessible for most people
@@AndyCormierYT The price is probably the point I'd be most concerned about. I am a larger guy and used to play trombone, so hopefully I have a bit of the air production ability - though it has been a few years so I might not anymore.
Also I tend to like deeper notes than high pitched ones but these instruments are still only a budding curiosity
I just got happy hearing the Snowden theme from undertale start playing. UwU love the video tho
The ocarina is squeaking with you that it needs your studying, If there is another way to reduce the loudness? I think you need good look into the Ocarina.
Squeaking is a result of overblowing/improper air pressure on a soprano C ocarina. It's not an indicator of the quality of the ocarina, only an indicator for needing to improve technique.
Sure, it's possible some models of ocarina may be at higher risk of squeaking, but
A. If you learn air control on an alto C, you're unlikely to ever squeak on a soprano
B. You'll only really squeak if you TRY to do it once you're comfortable on the range of instrument
@@AndyCormierYT There is an issue for Ocarina: how many tones can be found in one chamber?
