One of the best songs ever. Best slow dance. Loved the Chantels.
Could not wait till the very end of the dance, LOL, They played this and hold me, thrill me, kiss me and it was a rare chance to get close to a girl, lol.
exactly
and a great song to sing acappella
THIS IS PURE GOLD FOR ETERNITY FACT
She is the only one who can sing like this. Would love to hear someone on the Voice do this!!!!!!!
Try the Barberettes version of Maybe on UA-cam. It is very more emotionally packed. It will bring you to tears.
john frusciante maybe
I CAN HEAR HER CLEARLY ; ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE OCEAN ATLANTIC. FROM: COOLAVOOHIG, COUNTY CORK, REPUBLIC of Ireland 🇮🇪. Spectacular!!!.
She is awesome
She was beautiful, too, beautiful eyes and hair.
Love me some Arlene Smith and the Chantels. She is so great since 1958 and American Bandstand.
Love her voice and this song!
Great singer!
Ladies and gentlemen this is the The Great Arlene Smith lead singer of the Chantels , she is the original lead on the song
grega1972 love it
Damn straight!
Yes Arlene is the Original lead But the Real Chantels had a harmony that these girls could Not even think about duplicating ....just sayin
Indeed. What an incredible voice. I loved this since I was a young kid. Incredible/
She's incredible
What a magical match... the Lou Reed band added that powerful missing bottom end. This was how this song was meant to be.
wow what a beautiful beautiful song I will always love this song it touches my heart so, The Chantels I will always love their music.
What a sentimental song... And what a beautiful voice...!!!
Love that song
WOW! This is a rare gem!!
This was always one of my favorite 50's songs! There is another rare clip of the original Chantels together on stage from about 2006. She was still belting it out then as well. I love Arlene Smith's voice! These songs remind my of my mom who was always playing her generation's music when we were kids, so I have a real fondness for the early days of Rock n Roll. Beautiful song!
Why RIP?
@@the30secondpunny17 oh she's still with us? I know that I read that she had passed! If she is still with us I am so happy to hear it!
Voices.from heaven.
Arlene!! Blessed with that Voice. God Bless You!!
What a great singer! I have always loved this song and Ms. Arlene singing it!
I was there, a great night. Who would ever think I'd see Robert Quine play back up for The Chantels?

so great it was unreal, slow grinding, and great to sing and I was hoarse after hitting the high notes
Canta con un Shure 57, lindo detalle además de su gran voz.
ARTISTS!
I saw her at the bottom line tiny little place lower Manhattan in the village in the 70s voice of an angel a voice That took you out of your seat and took you on a ride
Arlene became a teacher, and we taught together in the Bronx.
I'm James Monroe class of '65
My mom n dads song.......
heard it first time in Mafia2 Game ,wanna now who sing, now i now thx for uploading
the sad truth is when this song came out these BEAUTIFUL QUEENS had to enter the building through the back door and once they touched peoples souls they were ushered out the back door racism is so ugly and disgusting
Really!!! no!!! sad...
Some 26 years from original recording but, sounds just as good as she (Arelene Smith ) did when she was a 14 year old.
I loved the chantels practicing all the time singing it to slow talk about sing though
ARLENE you are so awsome but she needs the original Chantels cuz the backround vocals cannot be dupped , the original girls still sound like Angels
good ass fuck song
John Frusciante me trajo aquí
igual a mi
Alan Gutierrez Deseo que John siga cantando ;3;
Nice
Chantels are wonderful but there is absolutely no Lou Reed to be found anywhere in this video
It was his special.
Lou Reed's musicians from the Capitol Theatre concert are playing: Quine, Saunders, Ferraro, Wood.

Why does it say Lou Reed?
TartempionLampion this was a concert where Lou Reed also performed. I was a young man of about 19. We were so excited to see Lou Reed perform.
When in tune she was the best, but her going out of tune makes it bittersweet given the high standards she previously set.
I’ve heard her in years since this performance… I think she was having vocal problems on this night. There are a couple times when she seems distressed in her voice, I think it’s amazing she sounded as good as she did. I think something else was going on with her voice that night.
@@martyrobinson4474 Even when she's off she's ON
even now she was starting to lose it. that's why she was replaced by ami ortiz.
If it wasn't for the great Arlene Smith, who by the way wrote their first single, "He's Gone" there would be no group period.....and get your story straight the girls had a big disagreement, she went out on her own.....the rest of the girls rode on her coattails for years with HER music....while Ami Ortiz is a fairly good singer, she has since retired from the group and they brought in the daughter of one of the originals....she isn't and never will match the vocals of the great Arlene Smith, the pride of The Bronx, NY
It seems she's out of tune
no she's not
