I fall victim to this. I bought the game and frankly its too hard for my liking. I bought it because everyone was praising it and i do like the monkey king story but now i feel as if i wasted money on a game i dont even have fun playing with and i just dk what to do
I just refunded it after 3h on Steam. I like difficult games, but I’m too stressed in life to enjoy it right now…or ever. I’m done with these 7 hour boss fights.
Bro you just have to persevere, believe in your self. Maybe you’re not ready to fight the boss yet so go exploring, look for better items that will help you defeat the current boss you’re stuck at, idk this really helped me play through the game tho
I enjoyed the game, but the game is just hard for the sake of being hard... there is no reason for them to put a limit on how many potions you can buy per chapter. It's already tough to begin with and they make it even more difficult by introducing these unecessary limitations. It's just not fun.
I really appreciate you being honest. I'm the casual gamer. I work fulltime and i want to sit down and decompress and not pull my hair out dying over and over. This game is 100% souls like.
: )))))))) I mean all the explaination from him is kinda......... : ))))))) In the end, they need to accept it. Wukong is a great game, there is no need to defend it..... bla bla bla.
Having played several souls game and their likes, all I wanted was a nice beautiful looking game much in vein with God of War- meet fantastic creatures from Chinese mythology, see where the story goes, craft armor and clash against gods. As advertised. I’m in chapter 4 now. I regret every single dollar spent on this game. No chance for a refund, of course. Every single boss is a wall. A wall that I am not willing to bash my head in anymore. I know they will never place difficulty settings- this is a souls like, after all- but they do need to patch a lot of things when it comes to combat, because I have the best gear up until that point and am barely denting their health bar. The bosses, of course, one shot. Because of course they do
The only difference between Black Myth and any other Souls game is that when you get rek't by a boss or a mob, you don't lose exp/items. That's it. That's about the major difference, along with, its slightly more forgiving. Its Soulslike, but not the hardest Soulslike, if that makes sense.
@@bombyo3634 yeah I noticed that too worse camera angle and pretty hard for me for a casual player like me . Stuck in fighting wandering Wight. I had to refund it on steam
@PixelPerInch33 chapter 4 is probably the worse chapter for everything I said. Horrible chapter. I got to chapter 6 explored a bit and quit. Got tired of the game. Didn't beat it yet.
thanks for the warning. i absolutely belong in the category of ppl who dont like being stressed and frustrated by their games. i heard ppl say stuff like "its such a great feeling of accomplishment of finally beating a boss", i tried it for one big boss on elden ring and after like 20 tries i beat him and felt nothing but "thank god thats over" and uninstalled. not my idea of fun. i greatly enjoy the jedi fallen order games and play them on highest difficulty, they are challenging but still doable. and for 1 or 2 bosses i can lower difficulty a bit and beat the game.
You get your feeling of accomplishment through a game, that’s why. Some of us who get it elsewhere don’t need it in a game that’s supposed to be fun. Loved these games when I didn’t have a life either so I’m not hating 😂 But in all seriousness, sometimes I want that challenge, sometimes I don’t. You don’t need extremes, why extremely hard or extremely easy, how about a hard game and that’s fuxkin it?
I am 15 hours into the game. I am on chapter 3. I dropped the game. I like a challenge, but I am just your average casual gamer. I feel like I have been lied too. It was not a DMC like, like they said it would be. It is a souls like, and I find it harder than Elden RIng and I Completed Elden ring. (base edition)
At least in Elden Ring you can use summons or go to other areas and level up first, in this game there’s very limited mobs to grind and you truly have to grind while in Elden Ring you are just doing new areas first. Elden Ring has a lot of crappy elements to it and is ultimately a Souls like but they did make a genuine effort in that game I believe to make it more accessible they dont really do that in this game.
@@tehcrusherif it isn't then no game is a soulslike other than the actual souls games. this game has just as many similarities with dark souls as fucking pathetic ass lords of the fallen for crying out loud

We don't dislike soulslikes because we "can't play them" or we "lack the skill" If we had hours to spend learning the combat system, getting the timing down, etc. Then we would. But most casual gamers dont have that kind of time. We have jobs, kids, responsibilities, etc. When presented with the choice between spending 10 of my precious 2-hour gaming sessions failing and learning slowly OR playing something I can just enjoy without weeks of buy-in and learning curve, we're gonna pick option 2 every time. The satisfaction of eventually winning isnt worth the multiple days of nothing but frustration.

Souls like or not…. Some bosses are absolutely brutal and for this reason it doesn’t feel accessible to me. Difficulty settings make it more accessible where the hardcore gamers can choose the hardest difficulty and casual players like me get to choose an easier difficulty
i guess it's the combat pacing that makes them convinced it's not? being able to hit more times in a row (despite the generally low damage you deal) is why i think they believe it's not a souls like
They’re just delusional. It cleary takes alot of aspects for soulsbornes like bonfire checkpoint system. You can skip enemis which you cant in games like ghost of tsushima and god of war which ppl are comparing black myrh to. Game mostly focuses on bosses. *cough cough*
@@Dragonslayer672 the stuff you mentioned can be implemented into a turn based game, would that make it a souls game? main combat mechanics are the similarities in question, lets be clear. souls games just feel different, you dont feel like you're being controlled with strings by the game the moment you attack, which leaves us with precise timing and positioning that are indeed quite similar, but not invented by souls games, only enhanced by them
When speaking on the boss that can hit you but you can't hit them if it's that rat guy with the severed head I think that is intentional. The Rat is making the arena smaller with the sandstorm. So If you try to attack him on the edges he has the advantage. I do feel some of the attack and drink commands are delayed at times. But overall very fun game.
I've been gaming since the early '90s, but I had never played action-RPG games, as it was never a genre I was interested in. However, it was hard to escape the buzz around Wukong this year, so purely out of curiosity, I decided to try it. This has been by far the hardest (hair pulling, controller breaking difficult) and most satisfying gaming experience of my life. for over a month, since release, it took me 120 hours to complete the entire game. I've never hated and loved a game so much before. Wukong is an absolute masterpiece-easily a 10/10.

souls-lite at best. it has basically none of the things that make souls genre games feel good to play and experience. which is good. not everything needs to be a souls-like.
@@tehcrusher it Has Bonfire System, Lose Points on Death, Character does have any dialogue, Linear and Vague progression, No quest markers, No difficulty setting, Dodging is the main defense of combat. @@LightDark-pm7qe You lose nothing on death,; that risk/reward is a key component of soulslikes. Wukong is also far more linear than the average soulslike, it's very difficult to get lost and most branches lead to one dead-end and one critical path rather than say Dark Souls where firelink can lead to the Burg, New Londo and the Catacombs. It has some soulslike components but feels more like a character action/ARPG hybrid.
@@karmicbacklash The lose points thing was misinformation, that's on me, I'll add something else instead. Limited healing potion system when fighting, another soulslike feel. What you "Feel" and what I "Feel" while playing is subjective, these other similarities are facts.
@@LightDark-pm7qe Sure, and the things that are not the same are also facts. Irrespective, the devs don't consider their game a soulslike and I'm inclined to side with them in this case. You and your topographically challenged friends beyond counting can enjoy your soulslike, while I enjoy my arpg :)
Best clip I have seen on this issue thank you. I absolutely love Souls games. But I checked out late in chapter 3 of Wukong. The difficulty is relentless! To much suffering Vs not enough dopamine = pure frustration. Those graphics though wow…
The sheer number of Souls elements in BMW is undeniably in the majority. Thank you for making this point. Exploration for upgrade materials, Estus Flasks, I-frame dodges, light and heavy attacks, grinding for levels, respawning enemies when you die or hit a checkpoint, and high difficulty, high skill level boss fights. The only thing I see as non-Souls is actually the skill tree, which most Soulslikes actually have. I think BMW is a great game, I'm enjoying it, but it's a Soulslike game.
China owns tik tok, and the CCP paid a lot of money to the studio who made Wukong, in fact, in China the government describes video games as "spiritual opium" and limits it's people from playing games more than 3 hours or so a week and even more interesting is that the mythology in the game is the same mythology Mao Zedong tried to erase, so ya China's capitalizing on the lack of good Western games to fund the Party in China
Finally somebody said it. Intro kinda fricked me over because how amazing it was. I thought it is gonna story rich game where we explore the story as the Sun Wukong and maybe get his characther into more depth. I was excepting god of war gameplay, while the game would offer you to, of course do some basic dodge and such, but i was suprised how much of a heavy dodge simulator it was. Don't get me wrong the art, boss designs, music, map, graphic is godlike and i would support the devs for it, while i do somewhat enojy the boss fights and i'm at the chapter 2 currectly, i'm not found of the soulslike games. At least dark souls 3 and elden ring gives you an option to play with friends but Black Myth wukong you are alone, some people might appricate that and that is fine but i don't like that. Since i'm on chapter 2 i wil try to finish it, and i'm having fun but i'm also getting annoyed that the story it does seem to have interesting bits but you honestly have to know the book by the tea and the story is somewhat confusing to follow. You are mostly going an area to area killing minions and bosses, i mostly excepted story-rich game with a interesting fighting scenes. You also hit like a pebble while boss hits you like a truck. Again, game is amazing and i'm supporting hardwork put into it because there was an actual hardwork put into it but i wanted a game which i would get immeressed into Wukong's journey and actually have a feeling like i'm well godlike but instead i'm a monkey who rolls and dodges 99% and bonks 99% of a fight. It does have interesting abilites, i love that you can transform but so far that is limited too.
For all the dumfuks in the comment section. If you say Wukong is easier than X game or harder than X game, it's just a subjective experience for YOU NOT FOR EVERYONE. The point of the matter is Wokong is HARDER than what it was MARKETED as. To paraphrase what was said in the video, it doesn't matter what you label it 'souls' or 'souls like' or 'whatever da fuk', its objectively harder than what it was presented as before release.
Just as a point of comparison, I’ve beat every souls game including the DLC’s. Just finished Erdtree and had a blast. This game is considerably harder imo. This game is brutally hard
It’s sad that the industry has moved away from making good old fashioned semi casual single player story-based games, just to appease the critics may be. Now all we get are MMOs that are multiplayer focused or single-player games that are following the Souls formula and are depressingly hard
I honestly hate it, I used to enjoy single player games a ton but if we’re just gonna move to the trend of every single player game without microtransactions has to be a souls like Im not gonna bother with these new games.
I am happy that they did. I dont like cinematic games that do every thing for you, I enjoy these types of games. You actually have to "play" the game instead of watching a movie.
if you: •lock on to enemies •fight almost entirely using melee weaponry •have to manage armor weaponry stats, and magic & stamina bars •equip and cast spells •level up using skill points •fight a million damage sponge bosses •respawn enemies whenever you rest at a checkpoint station •have no fucking clue what the story/point of the game is •accidentally spend most of the time doing side quests you thought were the primary objective it’s a souls type game
its hard but rewarding. It requires a lot of effort though. I just finished it the second time. It is hard the first time but i became hooked after defeating the boss at chapter 3. Game is lush
ive been thinking this exact same thing ever since I came across the tiger vanguard boss. I feel like this is one of the bigger scams from a developer ive seen in a long time. steam doesnt even have this tagged as a soulslike its tagged as an action rpg. also another thing people arent talking about is how this is just a straight up dodge simulator. the big boss fights like this one you have to dodge attacks 100+ times just to beat it and its just exhausting after awhile. im almost done with chapter 3 now and im enjoying the game alot but idk how the devs got away with what they did cause this game is super frustrating and im starting to get to the point where im not even excited to run into a main boss
Yeah and the battles go way too long sure they’re difficult and you can beat them eventually if you recognise their patterns and act accordingly but my oh my do these fights take a significant chunk of your time.
Its absolutely a soulslike. Its hard affff. Great game its making me want to play more games like it. I never got into soulslikes at all but now i kinda want to. I really enjoyed Stellar Blade and now Wukong even tho i spent 2 hrs on 1 boss im loving it. But damn its hard

I agree with every single word you said and finally someone said it. I feel like chapter 1 (which was the only enjoyable one for me) was made accessible on purpose just to have many reviewers say the game was easy and good for casual players. I'm sure many have lied about having completed the game and have reviewed it after just a few hours to be able to say that. From chapter 2 the game suddenly has a switch to the worst typical infuriating gimmicks of a soulslike and I quit in the middle of chapter 3 as the experience just hadn't been fun anymore for a long while. Marketing has been very deceiving and misleading, luckily I didn't pay for the game as it came for free with my Nvidia graphics card otherwise I'd be really annoyed. But still, I'm annoyed because another potentially fun game has been turned into an unbearable chore just to follow this damn trend.
@@RedactiusRaccoonus everything is just too much in this game from chapter 2 onwards. Enemies have too much life, do too much damage, are too fast, have too many moves and combos, their attacks have too much range, they teleport to you from the other side of the arena and smash you down too often, many are too big and generate too much trouble with the camera... It's like they took all the defects of Elden Ring and condensed them in this game, with the difference that you have a huge variety of possible approaches there and you can literally get to break the game, but you don't have any of that in Wukong. Once you're stuck, you're stuck. This is like a manual about how to make a game not fun.

@@EepyBoyo then why does every other fan here and their scream the difficulty it literally part of what makes a souls game a souls game. If you made it easy it's no longer considered a souls game, if changing an aspect of a game stops it from being part of a sub genre, then that aspect MUST be integral to the sub genre. Since fans insist difficulty is inherently critical to the souls games on a story and lore level, due to your suffering as the player coinciding with the suffering of the character, then it MUST BE a key factor in what makes a souls game a souls game. The only difference between wukong and souls, is you don't lose all your currency/exp stuff on death, if that one difference can stop a game from being part of a subgenre, and difficulty doesn't matter, then fans are either lying to themselves NOW about wukong, or they've been lying to themselves this whole time about the souls series entirely. But i still say this was a souls game in denial and their is too much proof of that point out on the internet, go to any souls video or review, and say "man their should be an easy mode" and watch the jackals circle.
He says it in this video if youre watching his videos youre probably not really a casual gamer, you may think you are but youre probably not compared to the real market of gamers.
I bought this game specifically because I was told it was not a souls like, and that it was more like the new God of War games and I absolutely regret my purchase
I just wanted a fun action game. But now I’m stuck on White Clad Noble and don’t want to play anymore. These bosses are ridiculous and I beat almost every Fromsoft game. I just gave up on the Elden Ring DLC for being too hard and now this. Makes me feel defeated and like I just suck at games now.
The stamina health and magic meters are straight out of souls the way every action costs stamina and you need to chill out for a bit to let stamina recharge is a staple souls mechanic the way npcs have to have dialogue exhausted by speaking to them multiple times is exactly how souls game npc side quests work visually the way little bars appear when you are being infected by status effects is a visual style straight out of fromsoft souls games while you dont need to pick up lost souls when you die, the bonfire and enemy respawn mechanic is straight out of dark souls. even the bonfire menu is super similiar. the estus system is straight out of dark souls the game even has two upgrades for it, one for potency and one for amount of heals. the heal is even in a flask type object that refills upon death/ resting at bonfire. the lock on and targeting system where you use the right stick to swap targets is also incredibly similar to how dark souls handles locking on theres a hub you fill with npc shops just like firelink shrine from dark souls series dark souls didnt invent most of these gameplay systems, but it definitely has its own flavor whoch this game emulates i feel like this list isnt exhaustive and that there is so many similarities to the souls games general moment to moment gameplay, that its just silly to say that it isnt a soulslike
For people who have it and still don’t think it’s a soulslike, I suggest switching to controller layout type B………..it’s the same set up as elden ring, once I did this the muscle memory kicked in and suddenly my thousand hours of elden ring got me to chapter six before I gave up.
It does have a lot of qualities that make it souls like but one thing that's not is the difficulty. I suck at souls games but I've been going through this game pretty easily. Souls like games require a slower more calculated approach with boss fights and if you play this game like that, the bosses will be hard but the difference is that you can actually do a rush and dodge strategy and easily beat them in a few minutes.
Great video. I have never played a souls game because they are too difficult for me. However, this game is so fun that I don’t mind dying 100 times just to beat one boss. On chapter 3 now and it’s a great game.
After beating this you should go back and play Sekiro or elden ring, trust me you won’t regret it, the difficulty is comparable but in many aspects like map design and exploration it’s better than black myth. You definitely see the fromsoft dna in this game it would be an easy transition going to elden ring or Sekiro
I used to say that same thing. Now I have platinum trophy in Demon souls, DS1, bloodborne and Elden ring. It only takes beating one of them to realize you can beat them all.
@@kal1278 it’s fun really about evenly mixing in your spells with attacking to gain heavy attacks, it reminds me of my dex faith build in elden ring and I’m quite please with the difficulty so far, some bosses in chapter 3 were just as difficult as a boss in Sekiro or elden ring
@@kal1278 game play is closer to elden ring than Sekiro tho, Sekiros main combat focuses on parrying and deflects and elden ring mainly focuses on dodging
for me personally, wukongs difficulty is more in par with god of war. Regular npcs throughout the game are pretty easy and the main bosses are a bit more challenging. But its weird, they act and move like a souls-like boss but something is missing. Idk if the spells in wukong are just op but i didn’t struggle as much as i normally do with other souls-like games. I haven’t finished wukong yet because of work and life but so far every boss that i had to fight, took 3 or less tries.
The spells are pretty strong, I’m guessing you didn’t make it far into the game because Chapters 1 and 2 are really easy in comparison to the rest and besides, there are a few bosses down the line that counter your spells and/or are immune to them.
I had no idea what this game was, I just saw the hype and that it was 'good' and not a 'souls like' so I bought it thinking I was about to get a reskinned God of War. I do really like Wukong but it definitely isn't what I thought it was going to be and that's totally my own fault! 🤣

If you find yourself stuck on one of Black Myths bosses then go around find the hidden bosses , secret bosses, hidden items , hidden areas with each chapter ending boss there are bosses that are directly linked with the main boss . Each of these lesser bosses are there to help you get stronger before each main chapter boss . Also when your stuck go and reset all your sparks and try a build that is specifically built for the boss you're stuck against. In Black Myth it's skill tree , spells etc is a mini game within itself , experiment with your builds and your medicines that you craft there are exploits you'll figure out that destroys Black Myth Wukong's hardest bosses in under a minute the game is broken after you understand how it works , the whole game is broken . If you don't open your mind and think outside the box you will hate Black myth. For example take the yellow wind sage boss arguably one of the hardest boss fights in the entire game, with the right spells , transformations , medicine enhancements and build yellow wind can be beat without hardly taking any damage in under a minute . Black Myth Wukong is far from perfect but it's a great game

Excellent video, man. I appreciate you saying WuKong is a souls-like. I've been keeping an eye on this game since the first trailers appeared in 2018, I believe. From the onset, I just assumed it was going to be a souls-like based on the boss gameplay footage we were shown from the very start. I've found some of the bosses can be very challenging and some I took down on the first or second attempt. At least that's been my experience so far. I'm in chapter 2 and I know it will continue to get progressively more difficult. I have family members who are way ahead of me and have said just that. I wouldn't call myself a veteran souls player. The main souls game I've completed is Elden Ring and the DLC (all remembrances and main bosses) and an NG+ playthrough. I consider myself a very average player. I've been really enjoying the unique bosses and the really beautiful environments. But it is very challenging. I think if people are willing to go after some of the bosses 30+ times, they will get past some of these (White Clad Noble was a bitch for me for some reason). Think about how many times people fought Malenia? But when she was defeated it was amazing. If you enjoy difficult boss encounters, you will like Wukong. If this type of thing makes you want to punch puppies, you will hate WuKong in my opinion. Sorry for the wall of text. I think your take on WuKong is right on. I subed to your channel and look forward to more content. Thanks!
I got taken in by this, people were saying it wasn't a soulslike. I felt like a noob but there is a very early water-snake boss kept kicking my butt so much it lost any fun for me. I like a decent challenge but I don't like to be punished by games. Doing Jedi Survivor now instead which is a much better difficulty/fun balance IMHO. A bit disappointed I wasted the money on it but at least it went to a studio putting out high quality games, even if they're not for me.
Forget whether or not it is considered a Soulslike or not. I do believe it at least has some Soulslike elements though. Not to mention this game is not what i would consider "pick up and play". It is a game that you have to "get gud" at and have skill to succeed. If your someone who plays all your games on easy difficulty then your probably going to struggle with this game just as much as any Souls or Soulslike game out there.
i think the difficulty perfect (im not causal, but not great at souls games) i dont need to die over 10 times and pull my hair to finally beat the hard boss game bosses are manageable here
Also the bosses in this game take way longer to fight than most Souls bosses, you can live longer I noticed but they also are way more tanky themselves. Making the fights exhaustingly long.
Loving this game. It can’t be absolutely frustrating. Elden Ring was my first Souls-like game. I defeated every boss in 1-2 tries but in Black Myth Wukong I’m gettin destroyed 😂 only midway thru Chapter 3.
I kept seeing references to DMC and GOW.... A comparison to God Of War was the main reason I purchased it. A GOW style game with Wukong was a dream come true. I literally bought my PS5 two weeks ago for Wukong, God of War, Stellar Blade, FF7 rebirth, and some other exclusives. I was doing well on Wukong until the White Robed Noble. I was behind him, and he was still hitting me despite aiming in front of him. I'll probably stick at it, though. A friend of mine asked if I'd recommend it. I answered yes, but no. If you're a fan of Souls or Elden ring and like that difficulty but want something in a different style, definitely. If you're more casual and don't like those games or the difficulty of them, then no. I quite enjoy Elden Ring, although I haven't got that far. Only recently bought it on my Series X as I was put off for a long time. So I pretty much agree with you. If the difficulty was known, I don't think it would have sold as well.
Once again it's proven how gullible gamers are. Believing any nonsense from the developers. How on earth can anyone not see it's a souls like even after watching so many gameplay.
I didn’t watch gameplay to not spoil the game for myself I saw from screenshots it had souls like elements but that wont say anything about the difficulty of the game itself from that. Also most of the mobs are piss easy but the game itself has barely any mobs and is more about just getting to each boss, it’s like a boss rush mode with a few mobs littered throughout.
I’m glad I found this video because it really confirmed what I have been saying about this to my friends and they swear it’s not. I haven’t beaten most of the souls games I have like Sekiro bloodborne ds2 but I have beaten Elden ring at least 5 times along with a lot of other souls likes it made it clear
Cant believe so many players bought the game, only to realise its too hard for them. I immediately saw warning lights flashing in the previews, and I KNEW this game was going to be VERY frustrating. I hate games like these. A game should be FUN and make you SMILE, not bash your controller through your tv.
Wukong is difficult, quite difficult, but that's just it. Wukong is difficult but beatable, Souls games feel like a waste of time because I'm just bashing my head against a wall and feeling like I'm making no progress. I feel like I can beat Wukong, I never feel like I can beat Souls games.
Me who don’t really like souls likes much still like this game so far even tho it’s hard but they still should add a easy mode for people who don’t want the difficulty, maybe even a harder mode for hardcore souls veterans
People just have this misconception about what a 'souls-like' actually is, and assume its not, or just really want it to not be one. Ive had so many people argue in stream chats that its not a souls-like, and give me all their many views, like "if you think this is a souls-like, then you must think GoW is too. Yes, this game is different, but it still has souls-like elements, they just cant/wont accept it.
I could not agree MORE with every single thing you said. I heard it was on the same difficulty as the new God of War games which is an absolute lie. I'm on chapter 5 but I've already broken a controller. This game is ABSOLUTELY a souls-like. I don't care what anyone says. I don't tend to go for these type of games but I did beat Elden Ring. I'm disappointed that Wukong is so brutal sometimes it's not even fun to play. This game has got so much going for it, but I've reached a point where I don't know if I want to see the game through because it's becoming more of a chore than fun. I HOPE you're right thinking eventually they may release a "not so damn hard" mode like Sifu. It's not that a lot of us don't want a challenge, it's that a lot of us don't getting brutalized by a game.
Thank you for saying this! I bought the game because of everyone saying that it isn't hard but then I found it to be harder than Elden Ring (I know it likely isn't but, with Elden Ring, when I was playing that, I could just go somewhere else and train up and explore and still enjoy it whereas with this, the maps were too linear). Luckily, I always time new games on Steam and made sure I was still in the refund zone. I might try it again when cheaper (like I did with Elden Ring when I was concerned I wouldn't be able to beat it) so then I don't feel as bad if I can't manage it. I really want to play it as the world looks engaging and I want to see if I can overcome the bosses, but I can't risk it at the current price, especially when DAVG and KCD2 are on the way at the same price (and I would rather play them). Feel like we were very lied to by reviewers and developers with this game.
I treated this game the same way I did Elden ring, spent hours and hours farming, leveling my character up then fighting the boss and most times I out leveled them
It's a shame there are no difficulty settings so it can be accessible to players of all skill levels. Indeed, it would make better business sense to sell more copies so everyone can enjoy it. But then again, if they start selling items to make the experience easier, then it could make business sense, but that would be disingenuous
I remember the first time I played Elden Ring, I went up to the starter boss for the first time and to my amazement I actually parried his first hit and staggered him, then I died but it left an impression because I suck at parrying in dark souls specifically, bloodborne I could do it, sekiro I could do it, but dark souls? No.
Genres and classifications are weird like that. I wouldn't say its souls-likes but maybe souls-adjacent think Sekiro. It does feel like they were intentionally vague though. I also think the hype has blown the quality of the game out of proportion. I think its pretty good but not industry changing.
@@ICHIMANExTKNDJust because a game is challenging doesnt make it a souls-like. Sekiro isnt a souls-like but it is similar. Can you really not tell the difference

Never come across a reviewer who exactly speaks about and covers everything I wished to say out loud. Tons of players out there and some like me hate to lose over and over and learn , I don’t have the time or the mind for that . This game is far from easy.
Before playing Black Myth wukong don't play Elden Ring or Lies of P, Those Games are S tier Games, Black Myth wukong is more like a C tier, Honestly I think Lords of the falling is a better made game than Black Myth, I just don't think Black Myth lived up to the hype.
I disagree, although I do like Elden Ring more than Black Myth Wukong, I'm enjoying it more than I did with lies of p. I think the characters and bosses look cool and interesting, the combat is fun and the progression feels good. There is one area that absolutely hated in this game, but most souls games have at least one area like that. It has some enemies and bosses that I dislike or find uninteresting, but then again, I still find them more interesting then the ones in lies of p. Personally I love both Elden Ring and Lies of P and right now I'm loving Black Myth Wukong and I think it's a contender for GOTY.
@@elfarsmarirobertsson8255 So far the Bosses in Black myth is lifeless, I beat Elden Ring 4 times and Lies of P 9 times those games are super fun and replayable, The coolest Boss in Black Myth so far was the Tiger Boss, My biggest gripe is the lack of Weapons and every Boss in Black myth make you feel so underpowered it takes forever to kill a D-tier Boss lol, Even in Dragons Dogma 2 the game took me alittle while to warm up to but the Weapon classes was super fun to play, Am only on chapter 3 on Black myth wukong, Let's see if it gets better.

Good luck man , hope you enjoy the game .. don’t fall for the bait boss in the first chapter (the big head guy ) you can come back to at later just skip it lol

It's just not fun.

Its too easy.
Because of course they do
Idk how the bosses are oneshotting you you sure you have the strongest available gear
The only difference between Black Myth and any other Souls game is that when you get rek't by a boss or a mob, you don't lose exp/items. That's it. That's about the major difference, along with, its slightly more forgiving. Its Soulslike, but not the hardest Soulslike, if that makes sense.

Its 100% souls like, its crazy how ppl are denying this. Kinda mad i bought it tbh. Made it to the pagoda realm in chapter 3 and ive decided this game is gonna sit in the library. I wanted to experience the story, but now I dont care anymore
YES PRECISELY THIS. I really thought I was tripping because I was furious with all the gimmicky attacks
For all the people in the comment section saying "just cuz a game is hard don't make it a souls like" then why do you all bitch and shriek like castrated sheep when someone says "dark/demon/Bourne/elder ring should have an easy mode" the second some one says that YOU ALL SHRIEK "THE DIFFICULTY IS THE DEFINING FEATURE GITGUUUDD" so if the difficulty is a defining feature then wukong who has ALL the hallmarks of a souls game IS in fact a souls like, if it walks like a duck, people
well said.
It's because those games ARE meant to be hard them being soulsbourne has nothing to do with the difficulty
But i still say this was a souls game in denial and their is too much proof of that point out on the internet, go to any souls video or review, and say "man their should be an easy mode" and watch the jackals circle.
this game is artificially hard. if you cant notice that ur just not good at games....

Beat shadow of erd tree on 2nd play through and.....that game is easier for me then wukong. I'm on chp 4 and struggling.
The stamina health and magic meters are straight out of souls
the way every action costs stamina and you need to chill out for a bit to let stamina recharge is a staple souls mechanic
the way npcs have to have dialogue exhausted by speaking to them multiple times is exactly how souls game npc side quests work
visually the way little bars appear when you are being infected by status effects is a visual style straight out of fromsoft souls games
while you dont need to pick up lost souls when you die, the bonfire and enemy respawn mechanic is straight out of dark souls. even the bonfire menu is super similiar.
the estus system is straight out of dark souls the game even has two upgrades for it, one for potency and one for amount of heals. the heal is even in a flask type object that refills upon death/ resting at bonfire.
the lock on and targeting system where you use the right stick to swap targets is also incredibly similar to how dark souls handles locking on
theres a hub you fill with npc shops just like firelink shrine from dark souls series
dark souls didnt invent most of these gameplay systems, but it definitely has its own flavor whoch this game emulates
i feel like this list isnt exhaustive and that there is so many similarities to the souls games general moment to moment gameplay, that its just silly to say that it isnt a soulslike
It feels like sekiro with no parrying and bad bosses I think it’s safe to say it’s a souls like.

For people who have it and still don’t think it’s a soulslike, I suggest switching to controller layout type B………..it’s the same set up as elden ring, once I did this the muscle memory kicked in and suddenly my thousand hours of elden ring got me to chapter six before I gave up.

Wish I would’ve found this video before I got lied to by the devs & big reviews sayings it’s not a souls like
$60 down the drain
@@Triannosaurus I might try sekiro. However the rest of the souls games the combat just isn’t very engaging to me. How are you finding wu kong?

@@kal1278 game play is closer to elden ring than Sekiro tho, Sekiros main combat focuses on parrying and deflects and elden ring mainly focuses on dodging
I wish I saw this video 2 weeks ago. Man, I want my $60 back. 😢
for me personally, wukongs difficulty is more in par with god of war.

I had a big problem with how every outlet said that “it’s not a souls like” and then It turned into be basically exactly like a souls game. At this point, I’m really liking the game because I “got good” but I really think it was not advertised correctly.
Yeah they just bamboozled everyome to buy this fame saying its nothing like elder ring and drak souls its nothing like god of war if ao were the difficulties they know saying its soul like game this game well not sell good
Excellent video, man.
A bit disappointed I wasted the money on it but at least it went to a studio putting out high quality games, even if they're not for me.
literally if you lost xp on death the narrative would flip and its a souls like.
Forget whether or not it is considered a Soulslike or not. I do believe it at least has some Soulslike elements though. Not to mention this game is not what i would consider "pick up and play". It is a game that you have to "get gud" at and have skill to succeed. If your someone who plays all your games on easy difficulty then your probably going to struggle with this game just as much as any Souls or Soulslike game out there.
i think the difficulty perfect (im not causal, but not great at souls games)
i dont need to die over 10 times and pull my hair to finally beat the hard boss
game bosses are manageable here
Only dying 10 times to a boss in a modern fromsoft title is pretty decent actually.
I sure hope you don’t die 10 times a boss in this game cause half the game is bosses
Also the bosses in this game take way longer to fight than most Souls bosses, you can live longer I noticed but they also are way more tanky themselves. Making the fights exhaustingly long.
Difficulty selection, and cheat codes for ps5 are the only thing that will persuade me to give this game another shot

Souls games are so easy tho
@@LetMaseCook yeah if you're a masochist
