I see you're from Malaysia .. we may have been there at the same time. Are you stationed in Malaysia? With my group? the Army Pacific or elsewhere? I was just in Malaysia last year providing Tactical Combat Casualty Care Training for Malaysians in jungle environment and oversaw the training of many Malaysians. I was very impressed with the level of discipline and I'm proud to be strengthening ties between out countries... I was in the 118th royal battalion, 8th brigade. My captain was running training courses last year to train in Gerun, Kedah, Malaysia. There were only 27 of us there but it was quite the experience. Curious what you mean by "medic" ... Are you in the army ? Or military? navy? I hope you're not one of the people behind a keyboard pretending to have fought for your or mine or any country for that matter for attention... Bc anyone could say they're a "medic" and lie. I could be lying if I wasn't.. but to often I see people claim to be apart of the army military navy seal etc and they're lying which is disgraceful and it just seemed a bit odd that you only called yourself a medic bc anyone in the army will give their specific job title, rank or specify which type of medic they are. If I'm wrong forgive me but this comment is just a little suspicious and with 1k people just believing whatever people write discredits so many of us who train to give our lives if need be in the persuit of helping others. Never in my 12 years of service have I ever called myself a "medic" always a 🪖 Tactical Combat Medic in the US ARMY. I'm currently stationed in Poland and the atrocities are unspeakable. I wish I didn't have to see what I have seen .. I am not allowed to go into Ukraine but I am able to help those in shelters. Again, forgivene if I'm wrong but your comment is very vague and if you were a part of the armed forced you understand why that comment being so vague is less credible. "a medic" is not something I've ever heard any real medic call themselves b.c there are levels to it and specific titles... As you should know. We work hard for out rank and position and our titles so we never downplay them. Why would u? Are you not proud of yourself if you're infact some sort of medic? Guys don't hate me in the comments. If you're in the armed forces you would understand why Im asking specifics. Too often people pretend to be a part of the army navy marines etc and it's not fair to those of us dedicating our lives to and those who have given their lives for our country and every other country in NATO. Even Ukraine who isn't a part of NATO .. it's an honor to do this but it's not easy leaving your family behind, our children etc. But we do it in the name of freedom. Not bc it's something to brag about on UA-cam so that comment rubbed me the wrong way having seen so many impersonate something they're not which is beyond insulting to those of us in active duty, our bets and those who have died for our country.

Of all the soldiers he helped, the Japanese one is the one that hits the hardest. He doesn't even hesitate, as soon as he acknowledged his presence, he immediately noticed his wounds and without a second thought went to help him. The way the Japanese soldier also realizes that and just "relax" and let him do his work, only to see the relief of the morphine. At that moment, there wasn't a Japanese soldier and an American soldier, there was a medic and a patient.
There were a few accounts of Japanese soldiers trying to snipe him, but whenever they did so, their guns would inexplicably jam. This man had the holy protection of someone who would not let him die.

This movie really wowed me. I’m not a huge fan of war movies, but this one was completely different. Andrew Garfield deserved the Oscar nomination because he brought every ounce of courage and strength to Desmond Doss. The most touching scene in this clip is when Desmond calmed the Japanese soldier and even gave him morphine. He was the kindest soul to both his men and the enemy’s men. You don’t see that every day. I think it's sad we don't recognise that the Japanese were actually doing a service killing off wounded. Better to be put out of your misery than die for days. Plus they were low on amunition. I know they were also making sure the enemy wasn't going to survive but still.

Yep, people would watch this movie, roll their eyes and say "typical Hollywood". This is one of the few cases where the real story was even more bananas than the movie.
BrassBashers do you know this was based on a man by the name of Desmond Doss IRL who fought in the pacific who which saved countless American lives and also Japanese lives as well. How about you do a little research and watch the credits of the movie where Doss as an old man speak on it like fr it’s disrespectful for you to say this isn’t historically accurate where they even brought the man to the movie theatre screening so he can see the masterpiece they made about him. People that don’t research stuff before they say things are just ignorant idiots.
BrassBashers This is also disrespectful to me due to the fact my great grandfather fought in the same battalion as Doss and they went through Guam and the Philippines together and one of the first Americans to set foot on japan soil during the war.
I saw an interview with a Japanese soldier who had him in his rifle sights twice and both times his rifle jammed. Also some of the thing he did are not in the movie because people would have a hard time believing that it happened.
grenade torn his leg open, then a .267 bullet shattered his arm in several places. whilst suffering from both injuries he made his own splint (with 1 hand and 1 leg) make up your own mind....
Every time I watch the scene of Doss aiding the Japanese soldier I get chills. Desmond Doss' goal was to save lives and that's what he did. One of the most deserving Medal of Honor recipients there has ever been.
Desmond Doss was a true hero, he helped his friends and the enemy because he saw no difference, he was a man of God, I wished I could have met him...and Andrew Garfield did an exceptional job in this movie, he definitely deserved an Oscar for this just as the movie itself did as well as Mel Gibson for his directing:)a truly wonderful movie
Jennee Reedus too back the people in charge of the Oscars had Mel Gibson to the point that they refuse to give him, or anyone in his movie, awards when he/they clearly deserves it.
Jennee Reedus heroes are the ones who do what they have to do. The ones who make the tough choices. What Desmond did was very honorable because he saved so many lives, but he is no leader. True heroes know there duty, and that is to fight as a good soldier does. Desmond did not fight for his Country. He did not fight so his brothers could go home. He fought for himself and his own spiritual enlightenment. If everyone was like him we would all be defeated. So no, he is not someone to marvel at.
Lord Inquisiteur Willhelm Von Steiner he’s no better than the millions of soldiers who fought in that war. He got a dang medal because he saved people. The only reason everyone else wasn’t saving people is because they were doing their damn job!

Patricia Gullickson Ummm. Bandaging the wounded man and giving him morphine was an act of kindness. Yes they were enemies; but Pvt. Doss saw past that and showed Mercy. Did Japan have an evil Empire at this point in their history? YES. But that's not the point I was making. I'm saying that if more people were like Desmond Doss, in the way of showing kindness, even to enemies maybe the world would be a better place.
And you are right about that, but thats because they believed in the bushido codex... that is not an excuse however, just a different culture we can not understand today. What about the invasion of Iraq it was illegal and cost dozends of life including "collateral" damages... In war there are no good guys.
there was even some parts the Mel Gibson didn't include because it was basically _too_ good to be true. (e.g. Doss actually jumped on a grenade and *_lived_* and the grenade that injured his leg, he wasn't pulled out on a stretcher, he _crawled_ *300 meters* back to safety. *_And took a bullet for another soldier when he was crawling.)_*

But there will be a time where that door will be shut. We cannot earn our salvation through good things we do. Scary times when you have Japanese soldiers going into war knowing for s fact they are going to die. They would literally have kamikazi planes where they’d only fuel enough for the planes to reach the battle zone so that they would be forced to kamikazi... incredibly hard war to fight against soldiers like that
@саша сашин not really. Kamikaze was only a method because by the end of the war Japan had run out of skilled pilots, and couldn't train recruits quick enough. An ISIS comparison would be warranted if it was used on a mass scale all through the war.
@саша сашин Actually, the Japanese Army was one of the most well trained, tactical armies out there during world war 2. One of their most well known techniques was to send small scouting groups to stir up various parts of the American battle lines. These small groups of Japanese soldiers would find the weakest parts of the American lines so the main Japanaese force could attack where they were most likely to win. One of the reasons the casualties in the Pacific theater were so high was because the Japanese were so good at what they did in the conditions they faced.
@саша сашин I think you are confusing scariness with effectiveness. They are scary because they are willing to fight no matter how many losses they sustain. This, however, does not make them effective.
Fun fact: well it’s not fun but the army told the medics to not have a cross or anything on their uniform or hat because it got the Japanese to target them more, when your not supposed to shoot medics really. Edit: HOLY FUCK 333 likes thank you so much!
Kenny Gudz i mean it’s not the soldiers fault technically it’s the generals and leaders because if the soldier says no he’d be shot but it’s still sad, oh and they forced commanders to work in war camps when the Geneva convention said not to and treated them like shit, whilst the Japanese soldiers where treated with at least some respect
it was the same for all sides during the war. Americans, Germans, Japanese, Russians. Most medics on the frontline didn't wear their cross during the middle/end of the war because they were all being targeted.
socksamazingchannel n the Northern Africa region and the Western Europe troops were very considerate of medics on both sides so they wouldn’t target them more

Jennee Reedus too back the people in charge of the Oscars had Mel Gibson to the point that they refuse to give him, or anyone in his movie, awards when he/they clearly deserves it.
Jennee Reedus yes he was
Jennee Reedus heroes are the ones who do what they have to do.

I really do like that scene where he comes across the Japanese soldier who was wounded. Simple acts of kindness like that is what we need more often.

This man was an absolute monster! Field medic that’s this badass and quick thinking and absolutely REFUSES to be stopped.
Someone was definitely watching over Doss throughout his entire ordeal at Okinawa.
God was. I have no religion but God had to have watched him. Edit: I made a typooo

@саша сашин Just try to read something about history..
@саша сашин I think you are confusing scariness with effectiveness. They are scary because they are willing to fight no matter how many losses they sustain. This, however, does not make them effective.
@саша сашин Yes. I was born and raised in the US. My name is in my second language.
Fun fact: well it’s not fun but the army told the medics to not have a cross or anything on their uniform or hat because it got the Japanese to target them more, when your not supposed to shoot medics really.
Edit: HOLY FUCK 333 likes thank you so much!
It's a literal war crime to shoot a medic
Kenny Gudz i mean it’s not the soldiers fault technically it’s the generals and leaders because if the soldier says no he’d be shot but it’s still sad, oh and they forced commanders to work in war camps when the Geneva convention said not to and treated them like shit, whilst the Japanese soldiers where treated with at least some respect
@@kennygudz9326 Yeah at that point the Japanese could give a shit about committing war crimes
it was the same for all sides during the war. Americans, Germans, Japanese, Russians. Most medics on the frontline didn't wear their cross during the middle/end of the war because they were all being targeted.
socksamazingchannel n the Northern Africa region and the Western Europe troops were very considerate of medics on both sides so they wouldn’t target them more
At 6:35, the Japanese man is gonna remember for what he did to him, despite being enemies, Doss helped him.
I don't think he survived
I am Japanese. I'm sorry if it is strange as I translate it.
I want to send respect to the people who fought for their own important things without enemies or ally.
Even in the era when both the enemy and the ally were crazy, I would like to salute the gods who kept their homeland even after putting their own life.
I would like to salute the Japanese for their courage and extraordinary sense of honor.
@@pranaysirvee4420 I don't think the IJA had much honor bayonetting kids

Cole what exactly do you think his point was?
Maybe he instantly had a change in heart and couldn’t help but get emotional?
But you gotta think some.of the Japanese we're suicide bombers
"Love your enemies" is taken to heart by this man.
Desmond Doss was a modern saint, the fact that he never wanted to be revered as a hero ironically just makes it seem more true. He was truly a humble man of god, willing to put his life in the line of fire for his fellow man and the allied cause.
The fact that he did this 75 maybe even more times is absolutely insane
