They didn't start too well but won 9 matches in a row between the later half of October and the first half of December,rising to feature in the top 3 behind United and Liverpool by late November. If anything the Hammers became even stronger in the closing weeks,a team to be feared by others in late March and April as they homed in on a 3rd place finish.

We scored five past an extremely young rookie stand-in goalkeeper called Les Fridge,I think it was his only game for them. On the train back some Chelsea fans were talking about burning down Wimbledon (who'd just been promoted) next season.
