I bet most Hammers supporters these days would love to see another partnership like Cottee & McAvennie back then !! 😎

That pair just couldn't stop scoring that season. Manchester United looked almost home and hosed as champions when they won their first 11 league matches in a row,but then they started to come unstuck. That left the way for domination by Merseyside to continue, with Liverpool heading Everton for the title, but West Ham had a brilliant season. They didn't start too well but won 9 matches in a row between the later half of October and the first half of December, rising to feature in the top 3 behind United and Liverpool by late November. If anything the Hammers became even stronger in the closing weeks,a team to be feared by others in late March and April as they homed in on a 3rd place finish.

I remember this west ham side as a kid growing up, played carefree attacking football with an awesome partnership up front in Cottee/Mcavennie 🔥

I went there on what was the de facto last day of that season for both Chelsea and my team Watford,on May Day Bank Holiday Monday. We scored five past an extremely young rookie stand-in goalkeeper called Les Fridge,I think it was his only game for them. On the train back some Chelsea fans were talking about burning down Wimbledon (who'd just been promoted) next season.

Proof that football existed before the premier league. And no prima donnas complaining that it's too cold, wet or muddy. No rolling around play-acting either. Just as much skill and technique as today and just as entertaining. Sky ruined football
