Happy birthday Vaz Te
"Herr General, our offensive line has advanced only 120 yards in the last week. What should we do?" "What can we do? This mud is bogging down our infantry and light armoured vehicles. It's like sending our men out to march through treacle. I should have listened to Schlosser and delayed the invasion until the spring." "Jah! And besides, Hammers are playing City on here at 3 o'clock."
Remember watching the score for this one on Teletext as a 15 year old sat in my bedroom
Greaves arguably football's greatest ever striker
4:10 Joe Corrigan desperately looking for someone to blame😂😂😂
Jimmy Greaves not only scored goals, he also publicly admitted to alcoholism, a courageous thing to do for anyone.
The bog roll being thrown on the pitch is to help the goalies wipe the mud out of their eyes
Did they have grass those days?
Nobody wearing gloves! The pitches were s**t but at least the football was a fair playing level!
I started supporting West Ham about this time. Love the pitch . Heading that wet ball will have caused serious damage. Reminds me of school football .
the clarts
The sound of the ball skidding across the pitch!
Wonderful conditions. You'd never see Anyone playing on a pitch like that today
Terrible pitches, footballs like medicine balls, yet the football produced was superb.
That pitch is like a bowling green . . . after four years of trench warfare.
Dear Reader, The true Gospel: ✝️ Simply believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose to life again on the third day. Put your faith in Jesus Christ that He has paid your sin debt & you are saved, sealed by the Holy Spirit and Heaven-bound. It's that simple folks. Get saved today 🙌 🙏 Please obtain a King James Bible and read it. The Gospel of John is a good place to start. Please avoid all modern per'versions' as they all add or take away from Scripture & reading them will have you confused & doubting your salvation (as is their purpose!) God bless you ✝️
And no 10 minute injury time at the end.
Amazing skill on an allotment,,no players whingeing about the pitch, diving,or getting each other sent off,,magic.
Brooking wAs great
What a contrast to the mud pitches back then in the early 1970s. To the prestine, neatly trimmed, green & well-kept pitches you get all year round in the Premiership & beyond & today folks!! And a superb 5-1 win for West Ham at Maine Road back then too despite the conditions.
How I miss those Saturdays. Can't believe I don't give a stuff about football today.
There seems to be a drainage issue with the pitch.
Hmm, but not likely to be the score tonight…
It was a different game in those conditions but the best players are always going to be the best. There was much more time for raw boned nutters to do their thing. It seems to me that levelling up has got to be better than levelling down. That is why it has happened.
Was this game played in no man's land at the Somme during the Christmas Truce of 1914 ?
What’s that thing called when a player gets the ball off f an opposing player? Oh yeah it’s called a tackle.
This is Man City's real level.
@@BlueCraft76 As I said, their real level.
@@BlueCraft76 Yes your real level without cheating.
@@BlueCraft76 Plenty of evidence, one third of the charges accuse them of withholding evidence and guess what- They clearly have withheld evidence.
@@BlueCraft76 No, it's around one third of the charges as I said which makes it about 35.
Jimmy Bullard u blagger
I bet everybody went out that night and enjoyed plenty of pints after the misery of playing in the mud and cold and wet. Can you imagine our little namby-pamby players today they would demand the game to be postponed so they wouldn’t get their hair muddy
harry redknapp on the wing.
When footballers weren’t pampered thoroughbreds.
Love the pitch 😂😂
I am a Arsenal supporter Jimmy Greaves is the greatest finisher I have ever seen, and I have been going to football since 1959
Who was the Sheff Utd keeper?
Tottenham 1-2 West Ham 24/04/99, go and watch Ginola’s goal, which didn’t quite go down as his bullshit story suggests 😂😂
I think the best players from the early 70's must find the simpering snowflakes who play on surfaces like billiard tables and never had to deal with the tackle from behind rather pitiful. They also never went to ground at the slightest contact or celebrated goals like choreographed theater ponces. Players earned a fraction of the wages on offer now but would still batter any of the top sides today. Peter Storey v Raheem Sterling is like Godzilla v Bambi.
Had the pleasure of having Hurst and Greaves with the Seattle Sounders in the late '70s. The NASL was really a retirement league, players cashing a bigger check than they would have gotten in the 3rd Division.
And barely a blade of grass to be seen……😂
I'm a city fan who was brought up hearing stories of bell, lee and summerbee as we didnt have too much to cheer about when i was kid in the 90's. We had our own famous ballet on ice v spurs at Maine Road in 67 (ironically Greaves scored on that too). This should be the ballet in the mud. Both teams looking to play football on a pitch that wouldnt even pass a sunday league test. Some great stuff from west ham there. 🎩 Two other points. The fourth goal is quite famous anongst city fans for Corrigan having a bit of a nightmare, my dad actually brought it up when he met big Joe a few years ago. Secondly, everyone else is caked in mud apart from Greaves 😂. Anyay respect from a city fan.
Very fine team👏 Very fine the place - mount, sea and football!⚽👣
To be fair the ball seemed to travel and bounce fairly decently so the surface must have been fairly firm but with a lot of surface water rather than a pure mushy bog.
As it should be, snowflakes look away. 239,000 views and only 1,000 likes lol
Not an African in sight...what happened and why
Great goalkeeping by the West Ham player for the first city goal. Those pitches were a disgrace, how is it they were allowed to get in that state even if reserve teams were playing on them.
It's like The Somme!
Did the Man C ground staff take the season off? Surely that pictch should have been dug up and new turf laid. It's in unbelievably bad condition. Even the local recreation ground Sunday morning pitch in 1969 wouldn't have looked that bad.
The players seem unmoved. Or is that that curret footballers are play-acting all the time?
When English football was English football.
