- In the farthest reaches of the smallest passage in the back of the darkest cave... beyond where (we thought) any human could possibly go... we found a 35 year old hand written note. With a name and phone number listed in very faded ink.

Epic
They legit need to leave a note like that
Best comment ever.
Hahaha that got me good
Genius sir
Dude fuck that. I'm damn near shedding a tear and having a panic attack watching this.
@Matthew Banko right? Me too.
Mee tooo
Heck yeah, my nerve is shot (I only have the one ya know) and my back is killin me!
It's videos like this that turned me to the smack
Why? I love caves! I would have been so ecstatic to have done this when I was his sons age.
Soooooo cool!
"It might not look that scary guys.".
Yes it absolutely did.
No thank you.

We go in, place a camera, go back out, go back in... it takes FOREVER! Sometimes we use an extension pole to place a camera in a passage and then crawl towards it.
Sometimes Jacob helps me. We have a pretty good system for climbing and getting around.

THIS is my worst nightmare ....
Dude, i literally can't breathe watching the kid squeeze into that small ending spot.
same, don't know why i watch these videos, they scare me so much
I feel like the guy that left the note didn’t really care all that much. Especially for someone finding his note from 35 years ago. I would be ecstatic, and probably would have forgot about the note in the first place.
That's what we thought And I'm glad you picked up on that. But we've also noted that most people who are avid cavers have a pretty calm demeanor. Nothing really excites them. And that calmness may allow them to not panic when they are in caves. We are about as hyper as it gets for people who are willing to go in caves.
We actually edit it out a little bit where he was actually not real happy that we took the note with us. He wanted to see if somebody would have found it coming from the opposite direction. It was really a bizarre interaction.
But a good reminder to be excited for people.
I'd go back in with a rc car and a camera, maybe the boy missed something, maybe that means belt was a little to tight
Especially with that big thumbs up, he wanted to end that conversation quickly lol.
Yeah., the guy's responses were super dull... I imagine the guy is pretty old by now though... The note itself was 35... The guy was likely to have been close to that age when he left it there...
@@CalvinHikes It's also likely because you're not the first person to find the note; this is a very popular cave!
get an rc car to push through small spots to see of the continue.
We do. That's how we know the passages are safe.
wow that's really cool
Inherently I believe it when you say caving is only semi dangerous. But in my head and in my adrenal system, its a very different story. You guys are absolutely courageous and brave. Being brave is not about not feeling fear. Its about feeling fear and going forward regardless. And you do that. Doing this at your age is going to give you a tremendous tool box filled with the items you will find invaluable to survive the rest of this life and thrive. The knowledge you are gaining is priceless and along with focus and intent you can turn what you love to do, into an empire. Be safe and learn all you can. Because its about more than just caving. 💯
It's ALWAYS about more than caving. Thanks for the excellent input.
Thank you Josh for eloquently describing my feelings and thoughts.
I have some cognitive dysfunction that greatly hinders my ability to communicate effectively.
It's nice when someone else can put in words that which is swirling in my head.
✔☺
Having the sheer joy of being included on many caving trips, the charisma of Calvin is so uplifting. He reads caves like a book, and is teaching as we explore. Thanks for your kind encouragement. Bad dad
What I notice is that they have no line. They're relying on memory? That cave looks different when exiting. Line is not that expensive, neither is a reel - or two - and cookies divers use. Edit: Seeing more of the cave and the path they took, the thing about not having a line or at least some kind of markers - preferably light-sensitive glow sticks - with all the interesting passages and formations, attention gets diverted away from noting exactly where they are. Heck, I've been to museums and airports I've gotten lost in. People have gotten into serious trouble lost in caves.
You guys have a great forest, full of life, green and healthy. Our forests in Germany are dried out and dying in the heat of the relentless sun. There was no rain in 3 years.
Yikes that's no good. Yeah, we get plenty of rain in the Pacific Northwest corner of the United States. Mountains trees rivers waterfalls. It's very beautiful.
@@CalvinHikes That's nice to hear, all the rainclouds make like a kind of circle around Germany. That is called continental climate, another problem is, that we do not have an ocean near to southern Germany. Our meadows look like savannahs.
Caveman Hikes I found your channel today and I like it a lot.
In Germany the forests are really good what are u talking about lol.
Sofia Ariella Vivienne Ilina-Mironenko I’ve been to some. Rlly dry
Is it weird that every other cave channel makes me afraid of caves but these two somehow make caves seem inviting?
Cool. That's interesting. Maybe because we show them as adventures?
@@CalvinHikes because you are so down to earth with it. You dont do the things for us alone or to impress anyone. Theres no taking risks, going unprepaired or diving head first into situations you have no backup. The mindset you are taking us with is so well narrated and explanatory with an aura of fun, you practise to get out of stuck situations when you didnt even got stuck in the first place just to feel how it is and wont panic when it might happen for real. This all being so unspectacular making it so special. Hard to explain :D
i'm claustrophobic why am i watching this
I love the idea of a father and son adventure more than anything!
Or uncle and nephew in this case.
Too dangerous ! What if an earthquake happened ??? What if their batteries died, and they had no light ???
What if his dad suddenly suffered a " stroke, " or heart-attack ???
This video was very disturbing ! What if they got lost, and couldn't find their way out ???
I was so scared watching this video. No oxygen ! Too, too scary for me ! Much too scary!
@@AlmaWells their batteries won't go out because they would make sure their charges earthquakes are suprisingly safe in a cave you could say what if you have a stroke driving a car so you should not drive a car and they have a map most likely to find their way out also most caves only have one main path you can fit in
@@AlmaWells lol ok theres some legit concerns here but a heart attack or stroke? seriously? lol you know there's medications for what you have right? jking but really u need to relax a little lol.
@@AlmaWells Heya, so when people are responsible about this, they do a few things. It’s definitely scary, but not nearly as dangerous as you’d think. When underground, you’re actually quite safe from earthquakes, these places have stood strong for thousands of years through many earthquakes without collapsing.
- Bring fully charged lights, and extra batteries.
- Tell others where they’re going, and when they’ll be back.
- They use maps, aren’t just going in blind to random caves.
There’s plenty of oxygen down there, it’s mainly altitude that you’ve gotta worry about because eventually air gets too thin to sustain you.
It is definitely spooky for those unaccustomed, but if anything went wrong, search and rescue would be on the way as soon as they missed their scheduled return time.
you are going to regret, not wearing knee pads, when you get older, and your knees hurt like hell, when you put weight on them
Thats the same thing the older guys at work would tell me when i was in my 20s kneeling on the hard concrete while fixing equipment in the shop, now 20 years later i can barely kneel down at all, knees give out walking up stairs causing me to fall, shoulda listed..coulda woulda shoulda too late
Yup- when he was doing that duck walk thing when the ceiling was really low, I was thinking "I remember when my knees used to bend." I'm 43 and I feel every injury from when I was Jacob's age - soccer, karate, etc. I wish I was more careful with my body when I was young. Hey Jacob, that's the only one you're gettin- don't bust it up. Believe what we're tellin you. If you start wearing kneepads now, you might not walk with a permanent limp like I do when you're 40. One more thing- shoulders are very fickle things- protect those too, at all costs- I've had surgery on both of mine and they still ain't right.
As an older dancer i agree

As a youngster our school used to take us caving in Wales, UK.
I was petrified, we used to go through things they'd call "letter box" it was so thin and "washing machine" which was water.
The most terrifying one was the "big dipper" where we'd have to drop 20ft headfirst and the teacher caught us at the bottom.
I was so excited when I'd done it though, I was a mess all the way round but when I got out I wanted to do it again and again. Such a wonderful thing to do. Exploring the unexplored and almost untouched.
