This was helpful, just what I was looking for. Thank you! Most fans have some clips for the housing to attach. This model needs the housing/vent thing to be installed before the light shroud. Makes sense now that I’ve seen you do it!

I have this replacement fan you're using. It's so noisy, now I know how to rip it out of my bathroom ceiling and install a decent one. (Gonna vent mine to atmospheric though!)

There is a large gap between the box and drywall allowing heat to go into attic. Shouldn’t that be taped around it to block the escaping air?

I have this model and notice it leaks so much outside air from the exhaust when off... How do I fix that?

If you mean it leaks outside air back into the bathroom when the fan is off, you probably installed the exhaust damper assembly upside down. ua-cam.com/video/hdvoI_XQWXo/v-deo.html

This is how not to install an exhaust fan. first it's a fire hazard, wire nuts (the connections) must be inside the fan's metal junction box to avoid fire in case of sparking. Also you should build the ceiling square hole (reduce the size) to fit the new fan box, now there is a gap between the metal box and the ceiling which allow air movement between the bathroom and the attic. Also the way you stripped the wires was wrong! use a wire stripper to avoid damaging the copper!

Why not just replace the motor and keep the housing.

Now you have hot and cold air from the attic leaking through vents. needed to add sheetrock buddy🤔🤔

    Wrong 👎
There is too much of a gap surrounding the new Box. The ceiling hole needs to be exact to the box you are installing. If not you have insulation falling unto the grille and consequently into the bathroom and or extractor fan duct and out of the home.
Fix: build it up with straps of wood ( 2x4 is okay but is over kill ) , dry wall straps or go into attic and seal with HVAC Duct tape as last resort.
Point is you should not have gaps. Plus your bathroom will be hotter because you are sucking in hot air from attic when extractor fan is on.

You didn't vent it. If it's going into attic it will have mold damage. Just because person who installed the old one wrong, doesn't mean you should too. Oh well.
