    Ahmad Shamloo
1:04:26 - "October" - Composed by Mehdi Aminian
"Quieter than Silence” is a project of the Roots Revival Cultural Association based in Vienna.
"What is this metaphor we call silence? In our music, silence does not want to abstain from utterance. On the contrary, it wants to render the intentional or imposed state of muteness on the way to universal consciousness and to sublime awareness. This music intends to create a space beyond silence (“Quieter than silence”), of the complete dissolution of speech. Speech that has been emptied of meaning in an ever noisier and aggressive world. A world where less than ever is being done to revive the human dignity trampled under never ending consumerism, wars, conflicts, nationalism and their consequences. This is an era where words and communication have lost their primary function.
This project makes the symbolic journey of returning to nothingness, a tabula rasa of existence in order to invest sounds with a new creative power, worthy of dialogue.
“Quieter than Silence” is rooted in Persian, Syrian and Sufi music cultures, applying various rhythmical and timbral elements throughout the process, which makes it a unique artistic repertoire hard to attribute it to particular geographical identity.
"Quieter than Silence” is a dedication to the wandering Syrians in distress and grief. It is a form of compassion and a protest against all the noise in the world."

My roots are Indian and I am a musician of North Indian classical music. Our traditional music system is heavily influenced by Iran as well as many other countries in the near east like Turkey due to historical encounters with one another. It is truly difficult to explain how beautiful and endearing it is to hear this music, especially as I’m walking at dusk with a near full moon above me 🌔 Much love and kudos to such amazing musicians!

@@KahroSynetic Nah I believe Indian Classical got string and rhythm elements from cultural exchanges with early Persian civilizations. There are of course other elements of Indian classical music -- primarily the structures of raagas and phases -- that are well attributed to older bronze era Indian cultures.

I lived in Syria when I was younger, a year or two before civil war fell upon it. It seems so long ago, but listening to this I can remember all the faces of my school friends. Who knows where they all are, what happened to them. Never have I wept so sincerely over music, for all those people who I called friends that I will never know the fates of but fear for so greatly. Thank you for sharing this music, it spoke to me in a way unlike any other piece has.

"Lullaby for the travelling child" - 57:40
For those of you who are wondering what he is saying.
la la layi is lalabye you sing to kids to sleep (he sings this in the beginning and the end)
    My love, remain a child
The world will force you to grow
Whether you are a lamb or not,
The wolf will turn you into a wolf
The world is a coloured pencil, even if you are the best painter
The world/society will still paint you
    My love, remain a child
You will be sick and tired of the world if you grow up
It is so cruel that the moment you forget your childhood, it will turn you into a stone.

"Not Christian or Jew or Muslim, not Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen.
Not any religion or cultural system. I am not from the east or the west,
not out of the ocean or up from the ground, not natural or ethereal, not composed of elements at all.
I do not exist, am not an entity in this world or the next, did not descend from Adam and Eve or any origin story.
My place is the placeless, a trace of the traceless. Neither body or soul.
I belong to the beloved, have seen the two worlds as one and that one call to and know, first, last, outer, inner,
only that breath breathing human being.

This poem does not belong to Rumi. There are a lot of words floating around such these verses, but some of them -including this one, exactly cannot be referenced to Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. He was Muslim, and one of the best representative of sufism -islamic mysticism/philosophy, yet he compassionately welcomed everyone from any religion, culture or nation exist on earth. This is why he still call out to many people after eight centuries he lived. There are many verses regarding 'toleration' or spritualism in his very famous book "MESNEVI", but he never ever expressed that he is not Muslim. Please do not deceive anyone intentionally or unintentionally by sharing a few 'mystic/transcendental' looking words/verses that you are not sure where it comes from. Thank you in advance.

This poem most CERTAINLY belongs to Rumi. I have read it in Farsi (which is exquisite beyond the confines of any translation), I have also read this translation by Coleman Barks, and I have also read the other translation by Annemarie Schimmel. I don't understand why you so vehemently and mistakenly deny credit to Rumi. Most people don't insist this rigorously when they're not sure of something. And you state and spread this misinformation when you have obviously not read it in Farsi. In the original poem, as in the translations, he does in fact say he is not a muslim in the context that he is stating he doesn't belong to the confines of any religion and yes, he does name islam as one of them. I'd show you my books of Rumi , which include this poem, but since you're on youtube, here's the original: It's the very first screen, so pause it and see for yourself, if you are farsi literate:
      ua-cam.com/video/e6cGxtKQdJk/v-deo.html
Perhaps it is you who should please not deceive anyone intentionally or unintentionally by sharing this misinformation when you can't possibly be sure considering you are factually wrong. Thank you in advance.

Then I print a book in Farsi which does not contain this poem and with a claim of him that he says "I am muslim" and strengthen my own "false thoughts"? I will not continue to comment on this issue. I wish everyone a better state of understanding the universe, the beauties within it and the Creator of all of them - Allah.

Greetings from Cleveland Ohio, USA! I love your music! It makes me want to dance! I love the oud and the sitar! Glad I figured out what they were! I’m learning to play another unusual instrument, a dulcimer. I’ll never play as well as you, but I love making music as it is such an integral part of my life! 💜

I listened to this music several times. It is a great and heartfelt music. In fact, I cried listening to it which I rarely do. I think Mehdi Aminian has a great talent in the Ney and Setar and his voice comes through his heart. Having said that, it is the whole team that includes other players Mohamed Zatari, Leila Soldevila and Behnam Masoumi that makes this music outstanding. Mic Jagger alone doesn't make the Rolling Stone. It is the whole team that makes them a successful band. I hope this team plan a visit to perform in several US cities. Me, my family and relatives will attend it.
