The reason the GMT hand moves counter clockwise is due to the fact that the original ETA movement that this one is based on is a day/date movement. Ordinarily, clockwise movement of the crown in the first position would advance the date (as it does on the 6460) and counterclockwise would advance the day. The 6460 has modified the movement by swapping out the day disc for a 24 hour hand, but they couldn’t adjust the basic method by which the ETA movement that it is based on operates. This is really the least elegant way to implement a GMT function.
As seems to be the case with SM nowadays, their watches are generally very good but both of the watches I've had from them (this one and the water ghost sub) have had issues that I've had to fix in order for me to enjoy them: 1. The water ghost sub I had, had a misaligned cyclops. It bugged me every time I looked down at the watch so I ended up cleaving it off. Thankfully it removed with a single strike with no damage to the crystal or watch and actually I think it looks better without it now anyway. 2. Sharp edges. Every skin-facing edge had to be slightly sanded because it was like putting my hand in a bear trap on day one! 3. The GMT had the bezel misaligned - this was immediately apparent as soon as I took the watch out of the box and really pissed me off because I didn't really want to mess about trying to take the ceramic bezel off without damaging it. This proved to be warranted because I had a bit of a faff about trying to correct the misalignment. I ended up having to remove/reapply twice which did cause a slight crack on the blue/red boundary on one side (although not noticeable once finally stuck down.). Just a warning if you do the same - when you remove the bezel, in all likelihood you'll inadvertently pull the crystal off too because the crystal isn't pressed on with a regular plastic/rubber gasket. The crystal sits around the fixed 'chapter ring' and is sealed with an outer ring that pushes down around the outside edge of the crystal. This also serves as the bezel click mechanism. Therefore if you pull the bezel off, you will likely pull that off too. This means that if you either misalign the bezel insert or (like I did) inadvertently leave a finger print on the inside of the crystal, then you will have to start over... and with a ceramic bezel it'll start to damage after two tries no matter how careful you are. Fortunately I was able to get mine back on again aligned correctly without further issues. Though it was one of those jobs where you start and then wish you hadn't! 4. Again sharp edges needed to be sanded. I do like the overall build quality of SM.. they feel more substantial than Parnis or Pagani. Once the issues were fixed with my watches I quite happily wear them with no niggling feeling about this or that. It just seems QC is SM's biggest problem at the moment.. seeing the amount of watches they're knocking out these days it seems they're all gas and no brakes right now. However, if they are going to ask people for more money for their offerings then they really do need to sharpen up when it comes to QC otherwise people will just move to someone who can. This is the reason I stopped buying Parnis watches - the lume was consistently bad and they keep putting those awful clasps on their watches despite everyone knowing Pagani can put a rolex-style clasp on their similar priced watches.
Thank you for your detailed feedback! You are not the first to raise up the issue about the components being sharp. I personnally dont feel it but some people have more sensitive skin than others. As for the quality in general I believe SM watches are in general very well constructed and have less issues than Pagani, Cadisen and others, but indeed, they could always improve! Indeed I believe this GMT has not been one of their best offers and it's apparent in the video. Their sweet spot was the Water Ghost (40mm) and their Vintage Sub. Those were absolutely amazing around the 170-200 euro mark. More than that may be asking too much, especially if quality is not better. It might be a matter of these companies churning new models like crazy. Like you I believe they should stick to fewer models and just perfect them over time. However what I have noticed about these Chinese companies is that most of them are willing to listen to feedback and implement it quiet rapidly (In PD's case it's incredibly fast). That is I believe where they are strong, they are really agile. Thanks again for the comment and I'm glad you are finally enjoying your watches!
@@altamushg Hi, I just used my wifes nail file pad. Its a low grit sandpaper and does the job just to take the sharpness away from the skin-facing edges of the watch.
Nice review as always Olivier. Unfortunately San Martin are making a lot of QC and judgement mistakes lately, the new water ghost sn019, the Gmt, the BB58 .. To ask around 350$ for these watches and offer faulty clasps and bracelets and misaligned cyclops and huge end link to end link sizes is going to affect their overall quality reputation. I’ll be waiting for your comparison and hopefully for a SN019 review as well. Thank you.
Thanks for another great review. I've found San Martin leave a lot of sharp edges on their watches. Not necessarily bad finishing, but they don't smooth or bevel edges enough. I have the latest 41mm Sub homage from them and I have the same complaint about the clasp's sharpness at the logo. The crown is also very sharp and I definitely notice it on the back of my hand. Some of their past bracelets have also had very sharp edges at the link's edges. I'm not sure I'll get another San Martin for these reasons.

Very nice, The second hand on my PD GMT. Plan on ordering this next. I'd like to see the depth rating in feet as well as meters, would look better with it also.

I totally agree with you that the Rolex is overpriced even though I have it. I reviewed it and said so in that review. I know many dismiss these type of homage watches in this price bracket but I look at Steinhart and Davosa which also offer homages at significantly dearer prices. There’s a market simply because many crave to own the real thing and will never get the chance and this is as close as they will get. First of all thank you so much for your support! 23h25 seems a bit early 🤔. Does it change completely or it just starts changing and ends at around 12?
If it starts then and finishes changing at say 00:30 or 01:00 i would say it's normal. My 1974 Bulova is like that and my recent Orient Kamasu takes from before midnight to almost 04:00 for both day and date although the date finishes changing similar to the Bulova.
Very nice review! When are you going to make a side by side review with your Rolex GMT Master 2? San Martin makes a sterile/anonymous dial which is what I'm interested in.
I finally got my gmt from the sale. Unfortunately something really annoy me bad. The case back so noisy? When you tap it, sounded like it's going to pop loose... It look seal though. Do you have this noise with yours? I tried tapping the back of pagani design and there is no noise? At the moment I try to contact them again for a solution.
there is no solution.....youre purchasing at a price point where thats the quality......buy a steinhart, closest youre going to get....costs a lot more, but you get a lot more.....you wont be tapping the back of it and trying to ask the chinese people about it
@@Horologique but I don't think that even not very expensive ... I found a jubilee bracelet from pagani Design for 16 Euro on aliexpress ... .. okay maybe the san Martin jubilee has better quality i don't know .... !
@@djzrobzombie2813 The Pagani Jubilee is horrible, the clasp literally broke and deformed when I was doing the micro adjustment (yes, the spring-bar AND the clasp mechanism, *both* ). I don't have the San Martin GMT or any SM with a jubilee bracelet but I have the v3 Sub with the oyster style bracelet and it is easily the best you can get below the thousand dollar mark (even compared to Swiss pieces), it doesn't get any more solid or better than it.

We should not forget what we pay for the price ... those who want a gmt master will always be desapointed by all the homages, Those who pay for the practicality would tell you a 75e pagani is a better bang for buck... whose niche is this one? I am afraid some chinese brands are missing their market and not endorsing their objectives. There is a place for high ends chinese brands with a propper design (i am sure of it). The homage market is in the end so frustrating (cos you never get the real satisfaction buying a watch instead of the purchase of a status) so i buy them as good cheap watches (i set my limit around 100e) used as beaters with no correlation in my mind with de real one and i am satisfied. My two cents.
That's a great point my friend, to some extent I share your perspective. But then there are watches like the SM Water Ghost V3, that cost only 170 euros and that are so well built. I guess their top value and place in the market is there and I hope in the future that their own models (which they have many of) will be more successful

Fuck it. I'll just buy the 600m diver with the MOP dial and call it a day. I've been waiting to get this GMT for a while now but unfortunately there's a lot of things wrong with it for the really big price tag.
San Martin have stolen every single aspect of the watch from another watchmaker and now they expect us believe THEY have had to develop the technology for the bezel process and we should pay through the nose for it, absolutely unbelievable. This isn't standing on the shoulders of giants it's dipping their pockets and ours 🤔 Have a great weekend Olivier, cheers.
Thanks mate! I don't know where the truth lies but apparently they did invest in R&D for the red bezel. The thing that makes me wonder is that in that case they should have made the batman much less expensive 🤔
I don’t recommend this model I had received the Batman version nice looking watch but then the problems started happening like it would be slow by 15 minutes a couple times a week to a one minute fast after I adjust the time this would happen ever two or three days. Then I noticed condensation under the crystal for a supposedly 200m watch that shouldn’t happen. And lastly there’s the CS ok they do respond but they keep repeating the same thing over and over again. It’s like they act like they care but only make it more frustrating. For $400 I say save up a little more and get the Mido GMT with a true Tavel hour hand I wish I knew before buying this watch.
If you saw the full video you'll see that I don't recommend this watch either, as San Martin has many other much better and much more affordable watches. It would be a good idea to save up and go for something better. I proposed the Glycine Airman, totally original design that predates even the Rolex GMT Master.

And yes....everyone I see a middle age or 18 years old punk, man(especially man) who wearing a Roley........it is like either mid-life crisis or someone wanted to be gangster wannabe soooooo bad! Btw, why would I want to have a “feeling” I am wearing a Roley, Roley, Roley....Gucci, Gucci! Should I go get some Iced out gold chains to go with it, too?
The reason the GMT hand moves counter clockwise is due to the fact that the original ETA movement that this one is based on is a day/date movement. Ordinarily, clockwise movement of the crown in the first position would advance the date (as it does on the 6460) and counterclockwise would advance the day. The 6460 has modified the movement by swapping out the day disc for a 24 hour hand, but they couldn’t adjust the basic method by which the ETA movement that it is based on operates. This is really the least elegant way to implement a GMT function.

I've handled both the Cronos and this one, I find this one better
@@Horologique what do you like better about the SM compared to the Cronos?
Just got vintage GMT and it's awesome! Planning to pick up another one....though cant decide between the new 62mas v4 vs Sumo...thoughts?
Yes it's a nice watch, I'm really glad you like it 😊. You got it in black or white?
@@Horologique got it black. Planning to get the blue 62mas v4 or the blue sumo next...can’t decide lol
@@ihavcandygetinthevan that's a really tough one. I'll be reviewing the 62mas in the coming days if it helps
I really love the rolex gmt pepsi, so I would like to buy an homage instead of a replica. I'm deciding witch to buy San martin or steinhart.....it's a really hard choice man
Pick this one. I own the Steinhart and it sucks. It's too small or too big (38mm of 42mm), no applied indices and the bracelet is crap.
Have they fixed the outward curve that the rehaut had in the V1 Version?
Great ! Can't wait for comparison again gmt master !
Thank you David. That's should come next week or the following at latest 👍

Love your video and on this basis, I did buy one. I was curious . As it happens I am quite happy for what it is and quality is pretty good and even Basel alines perfect. Just one thing I notice is that the date changes at around 23.25 hrs is this the norm ? or I have a lemon ?
First of all thank you so much for your support!
23h25 seems a bit early 🤔. Does it change completely or it just starts changing and ends at around 12?
Thank you for taking the time to respond. It changes completely . I have seen this before in other watches even from micro brands.
It's strange, I would say try to have it replaced, that's not normal.
Good luck!
If it starts then and finishes changing at say 00:30 or 01:00 i would say it's normal. My 1974 Bulova is like that and my recent Orient Kamasu takes from before midnight to almost 04:00 for both day and date although the date finishes changing similar to the Bulova.
Actually, it appears that the Kamasu date window starts at 22.00 !!!!
Very nice review!
When are you going to make a side by side review with your Rolex GMT Master 2?
San Martin makes a sterile/anonymous dial which is what I'm interested in.
Thank you very much 😊.
In this video I compare it with the GMT Master 2 and with the Steinhart GMT:

@@Horologique Thank you. 💯❤️
Will the Rolex comparison still happen?
It did partially happen in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/UOnra0C0wNQ/v-deo.html
Hmm, ok.
I finally got my gmt from the sale. Unfortunately something really annoy me bad. The case back so noisy? When you tap it, sounded like it's going to pop loose... It look seal though. Do you have this noise with yours? I tried tapping the back of pagani design and there is no noise? At the moment I try to contact them again for a solution.
there is no solution.....youre purchasing at a price point where thats the quality......buy a steinhart, closest youre going to get....costs a lot more, but you get a lot more.....you wont be tapping the back of it and trying to ask the chinese people about it
Yeah everyone was waiting for that jubilee bracelet 😂😂😂😂😂😂👌
Totally 😁
@@Horologique but I don't think that even not very expensive ... I found a jubilee bracelet from pagani Design for 16 Euro on aliexpress ... .. okay maybe the san Martin jubilee has better quality i don't know .... !
@@djzrobzombie2813 yes it certainly is, especially the clasp. Having both I can tell you from experience 😁
Thanks! Really appreciate your work. Helped me make a decision. Cheers mate!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's my first ever super thanks 👍👍👍
@@Horologiquebuying you a coffee was the least I could do. Thanks again.
I wish they would do a batman version black dial blue batons with blue lume and a ceramic half blue half black ceramic bezel and maybe black pvd coated case and stap and maybe a bat insignia on the seconds hand like Tissot has a T on there's a bat moving around the dial would look awesome it would look great if it was light grey in colour to make it stand out against the black dial✌️🧐🇬🇧
finally we got such an interesting review!!! ) thank you!
You are absolutely welcome, thank you for your comment 😁👍
This watch is way better than Rolex & patek philippe.
Because they just sell their famous names. And that's it.
Thanks for the review👍
You are welcome mate!
Dude, it's just a lazy copy.
@@Horologique I understand why they sell on aliexpress but they would benefit from other platforms and some warehiouses around the world. I've got their kanagawa that is something of it's kind despides of the case homage and i'd like to see more enhanced designs like that. Have a nice day and as always thanks for the reviews.
Another great video. Well done.
Thank you very much my friend 👍
Fantastic review mate, best one I've seen of this model! Can't wait to see your comparison with the GMT Master.
Not a fan of San Martin's higher pricing and QC issues that seem to be popping up more frequently nowadays. I love the brand and I hope they don't stray too far from what made them popular in the first place.
Thank you so much for your support 🙏👍.
I totally agree with you. For me SM's strengthz are the high quality 150-200 euro range
Wouldn't it be better without GMT hand? Looks like it only makes the watch more expensive and maybe less reliable and accurate Submariner.
That's an idea 👍💡
Thanks for the review. I think this watch is nice, but, the price. I am not that in love with the Pepsi ceramic to pay the extra. Still, cool piece.
You are welcome my friend. I really hope SM don't fall in this pricing trap, I believe they offer incredible value from 150 euros to 220, more than that and I believe they are missing their core market
I prefer the Pagani gmt or we personally, the price is too high
Great review, I just can’t bring myself to part with that sort of money though.
Thank you, and I totally understand 👍
@@Horologique I may still do though lol. Can you take a look at the Cronos GMT as a comparison?
@@MrSimonfoz I bought the Cronos GMT and was so disappointed that I sentit back right away. This is barely batter. These are not both companies best values
@@Horologique thanks mate 👍

Bonjour,
@@Horologique is it avaible?
@@locdang9935 yes it is, check the link on the description of the video 👍
This gmt or the cronos one?
I prefer this one, I had the Cronos for a few days, the quality is a bit less good
So, the explorer II is not a GMT?
No it isn't and it isn't meant to be 😁
how can you adjust gmt? Let's say, i want 3 hours ahead of time. I notice, it kept going faster and faster. I looked every where. No tutorial
Fuck it. I'll just buy the 600m diver with the MOP dial and call it a day. I've been waiting to get this GMT for a while now but unfortunately there's a lot of things wrong with it for the really big price tag.
Wonderful, that one looks amazing!
San Martin GMT or Steinhart GMT?
That's a good question, the Steinhart GMT os coming to the channel so a comparison is in the works 😁
@@Horologique Thanks, brother.
@@Horologique I wanna see that comparison
San Martin have stolen every single aspect of the watch from another watchmaker and now they expect us believe THEY have had to develop the technology for the bezel process and we should pay through the nose for it, absolutely unbelievable. This isn't standing on the shoulders of giants it's dipping their pockets and ours 🤔 Have a great weekend Olivier, cheers.
Hey Dave, very well said mate! 🙏
@@AlexanderB. 🤣 Cheers Alexander. I feel better after I've vented 🤣.
Thanks mate! I don't know where the truth lies but apparently they did invest in R&D for the red bezel. The thing that makes me wonder is that in that case they should have made the batman much less expensive 🤔
@@Horologique Great point Olivier, they should have. Recently, I think San Martin look to the west and think 'kerching !!!'
@@Horologique Funny thing is I have a Glycine Airman Base 22. I bought the San Martin due to its lumed 24 click bidirectional bezel.
@@kevinc1001 have you had it replaced? Don't hesitate to kickly get in touch with the seller so they find you a solution
Very pricey. I don't think they invest to produce that bezel. The probably buy from other manufacturer.
I don't really know but that's what they say in their page and what they told me personnaly.
Its not worth the money unless it mimics Seiko QC issues 😉
On their Seiko homages they almost always nail the QC, so it's not a reliable Seiko homage 🤣
