I’ve been sewing for 50 plus years and I’m still learning something new every time!! I agree with many of your tips you speak too in this video very important tips for finished projects. Nicely put together information especially for a beginner.
I can definitely see how the learning never stops! Thank you for your kind words, and I’m glad that you enjoyed the video!😊
I’ve been sewing over 50 years and I was taught by my grandmother. She taught me that the iron is more important than the sewing machine.
That is amazing and I love that! I would completely agree with her. It has proven to be a very valuable asset in sewing!
Hi Rachel Ann. I'm so appreciative to hear from newer sewests along with seasoned sewests.
Hi! I agree. Everyone learns different tips along the way and all can be so helpful!
I use flat flat flat river rocks as fabric weights. About the size of an egg or smaller. I've collected them from hikes in Creek beds in the Rockies, hiking around Niagara falls, the algarve in Portugal, the Azores, amsterdam, cottage country in Ontario. Maui.....So many places
River rocks are a great sewists souvenir
I'm always looking down when I'm walking or hiking. When my gkids were smaller they painted a few when ever they were overnight. I've got lady bugs, faces, veggies, Mario cart, zombies robots, etc. Paint or sharpies work great. I love my collection of fabric weights
How cute!! what a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing, and I may also have to start collecting river rocks, and do the same! I love that your grandkids painted some of your fabric weights! I’m sure that makes them really special. Thank you for sharing and happy sewing to you!🧵🪡😊
I love your tip for sewing for the body that you’re in. That’s actually my inspiration for wanting to learn to sew my own clothes. In my 20s I could wear the standard sizes at the stores but now that I’m in my late 40s and have had multiple kids my hips are bigger than my bust proportionally and it’s hard to find clothes that fit right. I’ve come to really despise going clothes and swimsuit shopping. I don’t even enjoy going out because trying to find something to wear that I feel good in is stressful. My goal is no more sweatpants and to fall in love with fashion again! ❤
The body definitely changes with age, time, and life. Love that you are looking to sew custom garments for yourself! Shopping can be frustrating because of the limited sizes and the way that clothes fit each person so differently! Here’s to falling in love with fashion again! 🌷😍
Thank you, I learened some new things today ❣
Oh I’m so glad! Happy sewing, appreciate you being here! 🌷😊
If you're watching, you probably know I'm fairly new in my sewing journey, but I wanted to share these practical tips and mindset shifts with you! Any helpful practices you have implemented along the way that have your improved your sewing experience and project outcomes? : )
I need a dress out of the same fabric that you have on your ironing board!😅😅😅
I loved the fabric too! Can't get enough of lemons : )
Nobody is ever done learning something new and helpful in sewing or any other hobby. I like to challenge myself in order to grow in my sewing skills. My latest challenge was to sew a camp shirt with collar. I used a pdf pattern that has excellent instructions from Love Notions. I have sewn 3 shirts already and will make more in the future. Key to learning is repetition. Anyway, here is my tip: I like to pin my pattern pieces to the fabric when cutting, especially when the fabric is slippery. It is a game changer!
Well said! I agree wholeheartedly. The learning never stops does it? 😊 Love the tips you gave! I have definitely done that myself and will continue to pin some of the slippery fabrics to the pattern pieces. It really does make a big difference. Thank you so much for sharing! And happy sewing!
I use a universal needle for most of the garments I sew, but it is good to know. I don't know how to do this yet, but I'm going to look that up. Thanks for sharing that tip.
Keep calm and sew on! Can I borrow that phrase?😊
Absolutely! : ) And pretty sure I heard it somewhere along the way so use away! Happy sewing Zelda!
RachelAnn, Please stay in touch! I love stan in touch with new sewests. I am not new to sewing, but when I talk myself. I did not use patterns, so I'm learning all over again how to sew. ❤ 🙏🏼 ❤

My tip is to never turn the wheel away from you. It will slip your thread off of the hook underneath and it will snarl. Also always use a dry iron to iron a pattern or it will shrivel ! If you forget and use steam remeasure the pattern for sure.
Great tips! Thank you so much for sharing and I agree with you on using a dry iron to iron the pattern!😊
Thank you for sharing these great tips! I've been watching you for several months now and I can definitely see so much improvement in your makes! I use my iron almost as much as my sewing machine and it does make a big difference in the finished garment, however I still struggle with fitting issues sometimes. Always look forward to seeing your latest makes!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I am right there with you. That iron stays on the entire time, and like you said, I probably use it as much as I do my machine. Fitting can be so tricky. I have definitely had my fair share of fit issues 😆 appreciate you being here, and happy sewing to you! 🧵🪡

Hello, I will definitely keep this in mind! 🧵🪡
