Monumental work either way, but I'd ask you not to stop trying to find people to help. This mod, if it attempted to recreate all aspects of daggerfall (rule sets/guilds/features/skills etc), could easily be one of the greats 😁
Funny enough I actually love the notion of taking a character from this Skygerfall, through Skywind, Skyblivion, and finally Skyrim, considering that's basically how I play the games already. I essentially created a character with the sole purpose of having a backstory to excuse why he exists from the time of ESO all the way through Skyrim.
lol, a literal Eternal Champion. Has Arena gotten this treatment yet? It seems the most worthwhile of the titles since it is the most rough around the edges.
Out of curiosity what sort of backstories do you use to explain why a single character can live through multiple eras? I love to roleplay so I'm hoping you'll give me a couple ideas lol
@@conmereth Well in my own character's case, I justified it in three primary ways: 1. He's a vampire (or rather, becomes a vampire by choice). Aundae in case you're curious. 2. He's a member of House Telvanni (and a Dunmer), which is more tolerant of vampires as such. 3. He tends to keep his 'head down' as it were. He doesn't draw too much attention to himself over the centuries (aka I play with mods that either alter the main quests in the games, or allow you to skip/ignore them). In short, he's a character "in" the Elder Scrolls, without being the "hero" of those games. Now ESO you don't really have much of a choice, but I just hand-wave that away as just pretending that most of what I do in that game is non-canon to his actual story; and what I DO count as canon, I come up with alternative reasons for it. For example, in Skyrim, my character is *NOT* the Dragonborn. But he *is* powerful enough he can fight dragons one on one and come out victorious due to being a powerful sorcerer and vampire who's (at that point) over 1,000 years old. There's a lot more to it than that, but that's the short of it. Hope it helps. :)
@@TheNN Okay, so you're not the Hero of Kvatch and, thus, meet yourself in Skyrim. Makes more sense with your approach. Then again, the Madgod managing to meet himself for Daedric quest wouldn't be out of the question, all things considered... As Haskill says, "Praying to yourself, My Lord? That's not a good sign. Or perhaps it is, Prince of Madness and all." 🤣
@@HickoryDickory86 Pretty much, but in my case I also basically decide what is canon to his story. Like in ESO his only 'canon' parts are anything related to the Dunmer or to the Ebonheart Pact, along with other things that affect him such as the Mages Guild, Psijics, and vampirism-related quests. All of Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion are totally non-canon for my character (even if I play as him in those games). His 'story' mostly takes place in Morrowind and Skyrim, like I said, being a character in the ES universe but not being the 'hero' of it.
Coming from someone who started the series with _Oblivion,_ I spent more than a decade trying to get into _Daggerfall._ No matter how many times I tried, I gave up and went back to other _Elder Scrolls_ games. Now, I started another playthrough via _Unity,_ and I'm nearly the end of the Main Quest. Suffice it to say, the game drew me in. I've been playing it since May 31st. I'm not sure if it's because of _Unity,_ or the fact that I've already completed _Arena_ almost a year ago, so I'm more motivated to finish this game, but I came this far, and I'm gonna see it through to the end. Speaking of _Arena,_ I'd like to hear your take on it. If weren't for the fact that I was already addicted to _Daggerfall,_ and have been playing it a week or so before I came across your analysis of the game, it probably would've had me convinced. By the way, my Orcish Nerevarine, Bulag, would consider being around the presence of "grooge" to be the highest honor an Orc could have.
Ok so I find myself in the same boat. Kept trying Daggerfall kept moving on to other TES games. What changed for you with Daggerfall? I tried the unity version a month ago and almost got into it but everything got repetitive. What am I missing cuz I want to get into this?
@@spregged7231 I genuinely enjoyed the soundtrack composed by Eric Heberling. The lore is quite elaborate for a '96 game, and its story allows for more freedom than any game before or after it. The Spellmaker system is as unbalanced as ever - that's what made magic so much fun in the older games, frankly. The game's armor/clothing system rivals _Morrowind_ in terms of pure apparel customization. Speaking of customization, you probably got an idea as to why the game's Character Creation system is held in such high regard. Those are some aspects I remember fondly from _Daggerfall_ The game's repetition was noticeable from the first hours of gameplay, but _Daggerfall_ had been the only mainline _TES_ game I haven't finished, so I had a strong desire to finally complete it. I can't exactly pinpoint what "changed" my attitude towards the game; it took *years,* several uncompleted playthroughs, and a fan project for me to have a more positive opinion on it.
@spregged7231 What is tricky with Daggerfall is the lack of handholding and immersion, a lot of events are explained with text boxes and a lot of the scenery feels flat. Definitely play it on Daggerfall Unity, and install the DREAM texture mod. Those two things alone make a HUGE difference. I'd also just say that with a game like daggerfall, you kinda have to make your own magic? It's so open and so free that it's up to the player to find that groove, which can be tricky. A mod I would also suggest for improving immersion is the dynamic music mod, which allows you to add custom tracks from your favorite game franchises to replace the clunky daggerfall music and generate a bit more immersion imo
the square corridors of dungeons look great in 1992/6 games like ultima underworld and daggerfall, but in a 2011 game where everything else is really realistic looking it kind of looks scary lol
About the Daedric weapons and armor in Daggerfall, they were extremely rare to find and it was usually a chance roll for them to even be in your playthrough, which makes sense. I also think it depended on doing quest with the Daedric prince's that's where the higher chance roll actually was.
I've got Daggerfall Unity with DREAM set up specifically for when I get around to playing it as I've only really played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim but after watching this I've decided to go through Skygerfall first instead mainly because being able to play through vanilla Skyrim afterwards as The Agent sounds bloody awesome.
@@trexasaurus5322Welcome to the world of a 1-1 scale overworld. If you scaled up a modern game to that scale it would be even emptier. Again, weird thing to say... Is this the ”haters of old games” part of the comment section?
I started my TES journey with Skyrim, but Morrowind became my favourite with Daggerfall(ubnity) being close second. Why, I guess I like the charm they have.
Facts! A man with good taste. Morrowind is the best TES game, followed by Daggerfall, then Skyrim, then Oblivion, then Arena. Nice to see someone who started with Skyrim who still understands Morrowind & Daggerfall are better. You took the time to get through the Daggerfall tutorial dungeon, and to learn the combat. You cant hit stuff at first but the combat is so rewarding because of the RPG leveling system. You get to feel your character get better based on the things he/she practiced doing. Many Elder Scrolls fans who started with Skyrim either miss out on the better games or give up on them, when they see they need skill and they can't just melee kill everything easily from the start. Morrowind is such a cozy fun feeling world. Unlike Skyrim the cities actually look different from one another. There's a sense of fantasy and magic.
@@ArachnidSoul Daggerfall is an objectively awful game. Everything is pregenerated garbage with no reason to explore, no reason to have 1000 towns in each province doing nothing, no reason for 1000 temples doing nothing, no reason to explore the overmap at all, etc. The game is just straight up bad. People that say they like Daggerfall are those who never actually played it.
6:52 There's a mod for Special Edition (maybe regular Skyrim as well, I don't know) that allows Skeletons to have their Daggerfall scream. I'm legit surprised that wasn't a required download for this mod.
I’m really hoping to see even more progress on this mod. Daggerfall seems so cool especially for it’s time but I just can’t make it far without getting frustrated by the combat mechanics.
For the author and anyone who might benefit: The optimal attack pattern for one-handed in Skyrim is power attack followed by two normal attacks (possibly setting up the very first power attack with a single shortened normal attack). The two normal attacks will have increased attack speed. If using shield, you can ideally bash>power>normal>normal rinse and repeat. Slice and dice.
My favorite thing about this mod is finishing the quest and getting to play skyrim with your daggerfall character! ❤ another awesome video, I love your deep dives!
16:56 Invisible platforms. Heh. I guess it was easier to make stuff to step on than it was to manipulate player gravity. 46:40 A massive olive green diamond. Clever. ... I've played it. I loved it. I actually was making it so that more of the unique items could actually be found/created outside of the Skygerfall boundary, and I had also made compat. patches with the Beyond Skyrim: Bruma mod (the Adamantium Ingots from that mod are awesome looking), but unfortunately, all that was lost when Windows 10 decided to be an arsehole and brutally force those damned updates, whilst Windows was running, basically ruining the HDD everything was on. Been nearly a WHOLE DAMN YEAR SINCE THAT HAPPENED. ... Yeah, I had issues; there were some graphical issues (some floor textures were a glitchy mess and one of the items also had this issue), and a few CTDs due to some kind of loading thing. Nothing too glaring, and it's likely that the hardware I have with the more capable PC was basically being maxed out or something, and that might of been the issue. Not sure. I also had that issue with Shedungent, and no, at the time I knew not about the torch puzzle, so I wasn't sure what the deal was. ... I had used the Realm of Lorkan mod, which allows one to transport between various areas using large purple crystals (I forget which Squaresoft game that's ripped from), which also allows one to start there instead. I made my Breton main an ally of many factions, and gave her quite a few boons available from that realm, which would in turn make the large spiders and scorpions not care that I was there and/or aid me in some battles. I had also the alliance with Forsworn (she's a Breton as aforementioned), and because I also had the Handcart mod (I love it!), for a time I was barehanded, and I suplexed a LOT of Imps, lolz "For the Reach!" (I eventually figured out how to make the cart be an incorporeal accessory) ... I must of had over 2,000 weapons and over 1,200 pieces of wearable clothing after completing the quest, not to mention all the usable and unusable items I had also collected. That, and five figures in gold bits, maybe six figures. I had the Daggerfall dagger on a weapon rack in the basement of the 'build-a-house' manor nearby Falkreath, and the Wayrest shield taken from the corpse of the jackarse that betrayed Lysandus on an armor rack nearby the forge. All in all, fun. That said, I am playing the original game and enjoying that (this dated 2007 DELL cannot run DFUnity at all-blame Unity's removal of DX9 support on this). ... TES: Arena. DAMN IS IT HARD at first...
Thank you for not being pretentious! I'd love to get into the older games, hell I've made it my mission to finally beat Oblivion after not doing so for years, but I do have a lot of problems getting into games with extremely complex systems and clunky controls. Having someone understand and give me alternatives actually gives me some motivation to eventually try out Daggerfall in the future.
I always find it funny that Morrowind fans are seen as the oldies preaching about how the series declined, because I literally remember having this attitude towards Morrowind on release - about how shallow, small and simplified it seemed compared to Daggerfall, which I'd been hooked on since 1996. About how it brought in all these new fans and was all flash and no substance. Heck, it was even released on consoles! Consoles! Of course, I wasn't entirely right, or entirely wrong, it's just a matter of perspective. A lot of the new fans that came on with Morrowind were very much the Skyrim latecomers, to me.
Honestly as I see it there has been a noticeable decline in certain aspects especially rpg aspects throughout the games. Now if you like the new games I have no problem with that heck Skyrim was my first game and for a long time Oblivion was my favorite. Still I do wish there wouldn't have been so much lost over time even when I originally played Skyirm I felt it was shallow in some areas. Now after playing the older games that feeling only gets stronger
During my playthrough the liches and vampires casted spells and were pretty deadly, of course I had a lot more mods installed so maybe that helped, also if you have amazing follower tweaks you can summon your companions in dungeons with u and they will follow throughout the dungeon unless they get stuck, which u can just summon them again
22:14 Even thought its very simply designed and doesn't look like the original but I just dig this dark tall monolithic castle design, something I very much liked with solitude and windhelm in Skyrim
All of the holds should've had a similarly old keep, Skyrim is ancient and most of the major capitals should have a keep that looks old, it was disappointing that so many had basic wooden houses given their age, then again most of the cities in Skyrim were demoted to villages and the only major population centers were the capitals so I guess they had to make them look basic for variety lmao
I get that it's called Skygerfall to follow suit with the others e.g. Skyblivion and the beautiful named Skywind. However, I would have loved it to have been called Daggerim.
I think if you want the quintessential Daggerfall experience you go with Daggerfall Unity. But for people who just want to experience the base story of Daggerfall and get caught up on the ES lore? This is a great mod! Seriously.
I really appreciate the technical achievement. However I think it's a more pragmatic approach to extend the existing games rather than completely rebuild them in an already outdated engine. Daggerfall Unity and OpenMW are basically the original games but on steroids and extremely customizeable.
OpenMW lacks compatibility with the Morrowind Script Extender though and will likely never have it. This means mods that were/are made requiring it are unplayable in OpenMW, which is a huge drawback.
I really enjoyed this mod for the dungeon crawling and a quick and easy way to understand the lore of Daggerfall. The only thing I wished for were populated towns, even if they were just throwaway NPCs without dialogue. As for merchants, though, I found quite a few scattered throughout the various cities. Sometimes it's just a random guy you find when you open doors inside castles that you wouldn't normally think to go through with the streamlining and whatnot.
I lived in daggerfall for a good 2 months when I first started playing the game, there's so much to do but everything takes so much time and there are time restrictions in place. so stressful, loved it.
I still like how original Daggerfall looks and how it performs in unity without visual mods What id be interested to see is Skyrim de-made in the style of Daggerfall.
I never finished the first dungeon of Daggerfall, but before then, I finished Skygerfall. I enjoyed the story, and I'm glad to hear I made a good choice about this mod. I hope this video helps others who are like me who just want a nice story in the Elder Scrolls series that isn't locked within hard to understand gameplay.
I played Daggerfall on original release, and I can honestly say, while there are some aspects of the difficulty I can appreciate (Daedric prince questlines should be obscure and difficult to find/complete - they really feel too easy in Skyrim) there were definitely some aspects that were just frustrating due to the lack of QoL functions and obtuse gameplay. Navigating some of the dungeons was a real headache at times, even when I _didn't_ have a bunch of real life stuff to sap all of my spare time.
I used this mod to RP a mythological being who served the emperor and in doing whatever it takes to bring him the totem, she died but woke up 200 years in the future still having the mindset of serving
Skakmat (Danish word for checkmate, skak -> chess, mat -> mate) standing on a checkered/chessboard looking floor is a fun detail; I wonder if it was intentional :D
Just commenting for the algorithm, but it was nice seeing so much of a mod I never would've played. Always uncanny seeing part of one game through the lens of another in these things.
Given the focus on just the story, I do wonder if a better approach would have been to have the different locations in their own instances that require fast travel (or leaving via gates/roads) to travel between. You'd lose the technicality of it being a true open world, but would be able to focus on set-dressing for the surrounding areas that make them look more true-to-scale. But perhaps that's just a difference in the stylistic vision the mod author had.
I skipped some parts to not get spoiled, but thank you for the analysis! I played Daggerfall a few years ago, and started with joining all factions. I don't remember my level, but had Daedric equipment... Ignored the main questline only because of this mod. So I will play Skygerfall soon (but replayed Oblivion first then started Nehrim).
Also the ability to clear a dungeon only with certain spells and abilities is awesome. imagine ustengraf limits the players progress without whirlwindsprint, fusrodah and etheral form.
these original daggerfalldungeons look awesome. like giant 3d mazes. skyrim should have tried to put some of those in. for labyrinthion or serveral apocrypha. i dont mind the brain-off and follow the path of living-soon-dead things, but for some important mainquests some challenge would have been nice
When he made a joke about his character not being able to read then talking about "the letter system". I thought Daggerfall had a reading and understanding letters system for your character or something, then the courier from skyrim was mentioned :x
As a Morrowind snob I tried Daggerfall and could not do it. Took me ten attempts to escape the cell and ten to die again in the corridor. Got really pissed off and gave up. I would have loved to see the outside world. I don't want games to be easy, but I don't want level one to be impossible.
I'd love to play Daggerfall but it wasn't the outdated visuals that stopped me, it was the UI. When I fire an arrow at a bat and it looks like it hit I can't tell if it missed, how much damage it did, etc. Same for physically swinging at an enemy: am I hitting it? Am I doing damage? I have no idea until the thing just dies. To me this is baffling because plenty of old school CRPGs had tons of stats like this being displayed all over the place, usually when you try an attack you see exactly what happened, whether it hit, how much damage it did, etc. In Daggerfall you apparently get none of that and that's what I was unable to deal with.
I had a fairly trivial reasons why I couldn't play the pre-Morrowind stuff; the lack of controller support. I got into the series via Oblivion on the 360, and even now on PC, controller is the only way I can play them. Old games, even older habits.
to be completely honest I think the preachy older fans are actually true fans. no offense. if you only played Skyrim and only enjoy Skyrim you're not an elder scrolls fan, you're a fan of the game skyrim.
wish daggerfall got a proper remake...what i mean by that is a mod that isnt just flat lands ofc... maybe there are modders out there with such ambition
I'm disapointed that you didn't install any mods to swap the colours of your health and stamina bar just like Daggerfall. One of my favourite gaming culture shocks I've ever experienced. The idea of health being red was so ingrained in my brain that I couldn't comprehend the fact that the reason I kept dying when my stamina ran out was because it was just a differently coloured health bar. I was making outlandish theories in my head about how the combat system worked when it was just a colour swap.
Just the quest marker and streamlined dungeons would take Daggerfall from "I'd rather not," to "I can't wait," for me. Seriously, I get stressed just remembering having to wander around aimlessly in seemingly infinite, randomly generated dungeon labyrinths. 😬
Hey man love the content. You should do an analysis vid on Arktwend. It’s the total replacement mod for Morrowind by SureAi. Great stuff and deserves an in depth video.
Honestly from this video, I would probably just recommend Daggerfall Unity with some key mods that resolve whatever issues they may have. Make trees and monsters 3d, make the world not flat, upgrade textures, remove chance to hit and armor deducts damage, simplify dungeons snd dungeon exteriors etc. There's probably a mod that resolves whatever issue they may have.
Yeah this is the reason i did not play this mod and played the Dream/Unity version instead. Despite Oracus0 stating that it was impossible to recreate it fully, a little bit more care and effort would have been appreciated it, as other projects like Skyblivion, Skywind, and Enderall really show exactly what Modding and Skyrim engine are capable of despite some limitations. I dont see any reason why he could not add all the daggerfall fetch quests as well as respawnable dungeons as they are entirely possible despite what Oracus0 stated!
Yo, I played the unity version of daggerfall a while ago. I cleared the first dungeon and made it to the capital city before I stopped playing. After watching this dudes video on Daggerfall, I picked it up again, and I'm so glad that I did, it's such a good game. It just needs a little more time to get adjusted to it and then some mods once you've become familiarized with it. I'm glad that I ran across this channel because I don't think I would've given daggerfall the second chance it deserves otherwise.
I think with daggerfall it’s less about the graphics and more about gameplay enhancements. Yea you can upgrade the texture quality a bit but the biggest thing holding me back from it is the ui mechanics and such. With morrowind I absolutely love it but I needed to first learn the mechanics thoroughly first and still only would really play it with modded enhancements as well. Honestly any Bethesda game you’re going to need mods to have an optimal experience.
I would of loved if Bethesda kept up the rogue like rpg elements, daggerfall really feels like a world. The game has so much and I could not imagine what TES would look like if they continued enchasing on the arena/dag style.
I'm playing this in VR. I'm an oblivion starter not a skyrim starter, but safe to say I'm having one of the most unique first experiences with daggerfall ever lol
I think Skygerfall is perfect for the modern audience in a more compact package and directed experience. At the same time, I would highly recommend Daggerfall Unity (DFU) for those who dig the concepts and story seen in Skygerfall, because DFU is the ultimate full-blown Daggerfall experience, and then some. For those who don't want the hassle of setting up and configuring DFU, you can pick up a fully modded and configured version on GOG for free.
I remember saving before taking mages guild quests in daggerfall, so that i could reload if i ever got the "find the brown root in the brown dungeon" cause F that it took way to long.. they were a bit too tedious...
I really like the charm and atmosphere of Daggerfall (unity) but for me combat was tough to enjoy. The main issue I had was knowing if I was actually hitting my enemies. I couldn't figure out how to get the floating dmg numbers to work either. I think having a clearer idea of if my attacks were working would have made it a lot more enjoyable from the combat perspective. Everything else was super neat and charming.
It's funny, because I see this as the worst of both worlds: Daggerfall's strength was in the character customization, gameplay - dated though it might be by modern standards - and trying to actually have a conversation system where you could ask people questions; while the story was ambitious but clumsily done. Skyrim, conversely, dedicated a lot of time to telling a 'cinematic' story; while dumbing down and streamlining the character customization, gameplay, and a dialogues with only one option. Someone's clearly put a lot of effort into making this happen though, so good job. I hope people enjoy it, even if that won't be me.
I honestly can’t go back to older pc games due to how bad the controls feel. And by “older” I mean anything before mouse looking was a standard. I’m too used to looking around with a mouse, not the damn arrow keys!
After playing Daggerfall Unity, playing this Skyrim mod was a treat. It's obviously made for those who cannot play the OG game but for me, it was nice to see everything remade. Especially the music. I got a mod for Skyrim that plays previous elder scroll game music and I replaced all the Daggerfall Tracks with the ones used for this mod because I legit really like the remastered tracks. Now it's time to wait for someone to make Arena more playable like Daggerfall Unity or someone remakes it's main quest in Skyrim. Who knows.
Oh wow, I never got around to checking so I always just figured they were different descendants all called Uriel Septim; never realized it was Uriel VII from Arena all the way to Oblivion. Also, it sounds like the Simply Climbing mod works exactly like original Daggerfall.

I'm curious if there's still any intent to rework anything or to put finer touches on anything. Even if not thanks for the hard work that went into this, and I can't wait to play it myself.
@@AlanGresov I've tried to get help with landscaping and level design, but so far no one seems interested, so for now, the mod stands as is.
@@oracus0983 I totally understand, I'd be happy to help here and there but have no experience with it, if you could show me how these things work I might be able to help, but if not I totally get it. If I come across anyone with relevant experience and willingness I'll point them your way for sure
@@oracus0983 Incredibly impressive!
@@conmereth Well in my own character's case, I justified it in three primary ways:
Falling through walls, corners and the floors is a true Daggerfall experience.19:20 Works as intended.
Why do you put italics in a comment? Autism moment
0:58 pretty cool that CDPR was down to let their models be used
the square corridors of dungeons look great in 1992/6 games like ultima underworld and daggerfall, but in a 2011 game where everything else is really realistic looking it kind of looks scary lol
This makes me actually want Doom and Doom 2 (as a dungeon network representing the maps) remake on Skyrim lol.
About the Daedric weapons and armor in Daggerfall, they were extremely rare to find and it was usually a chance roll for them to even be in your playthrough, which makes sense. I also think it depended on doing quest with the Daedric prince's that's where the higher chance roll actually was.
I have a decent collection and by level 20 I think I've found two in each skill category. Nearly all of them if you count shop items I never purchased
Were you able to keep the spells like Levitate, Mark, Recall when playing Skyrim later?
Just tried this mod. The world feels so dead. It's like you're walking in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone mysteriously vanished.
This is exactly the same as Daggerfall.
Welcome to the world of old games
@@Chris-ey8zf But daggerfall is full of npcs though, far more npcs than later games...
Weird thing to say. I can only assume you haven’t played it.

If you scaled up a modern game to that scale it would be even emptier.
Again, weird thing to say... Is this the ”haters of old games” part of the comment section?
@SCHNEK Daggerfall's map is wayy bigger than newer ES games, also the Npcs are a bunch of 2d sprites. It still felt like a dead world.
I started my TES journey with Skyrim, but Morrowind became my favourite with Daggerfall(ubnity) being close second. Why, I guess I like the charm they have.
Morrowind and the Tamriel Rebuilt mod combos are unmatched
@@ArachnidSoul I almost have the same list, but I put Skyrim above daggerfall.
DUDE, SAME
@@ArachnidSoul Daggerfall is an objectively awful game.
> The mod threw me into the void, so I think it's broken.
Oh no, that's how it worked in Daggerfall, too.
All too true 😂
6:52 There's a mod for Special Edition (maybe regular Skyrim as well, I don't know) that allows Skeletons to have their Daggerfall scream. I'm legit surprised that wasn't a required download for this mod.
I just hate that it's called Skyggerfall. I get that Skyfall was taken but Daggerim would've flowed much better
That would imply that it’s a port of Skyrim into Daggerfall’s engine, though
I remember a mod that adds the scream to skeletons, might be a good addition to his playthrough
That scream is so haunting fr
I’m really hoping to see even more progress on this mod. Daggerfall seems so cool especially for it’s time but I just can’t make it far without getting frustrated by the combat mechanics.
Daggerfall Unity helps smooth out things and is also very easily modded
For the author and anyone who might benefit: The optimal attack pattern for one-handed in Skyrim is power attack followed by two normal attacks (possibly setting up the very first power attack with a single shortened normal attack). The two normal attacks will have increased attack speed. If using shield, you can ideally bash>power>normal>normal rinse and repeat. Slice and dice.
Power attacks are useless in Oblivion. Not so in Skyrim.
Clever.

I had also the alliance with Forsworn (she's a Breton as aforementioned), and because I also had the Handcart mod (I love it!), for a time I was barehanded, and I suplexed a LOT of Imps, lolz "For the Reach!"
(I eventually figured out how to make the cart be an incorporeal accessory)
...

TES: Arena. DAMN IS IT HARD at first...
Just finished watching, excellent work once again 🙌🏻
Thank you for not being pretentious! I'd love to get into the older games, hell I've made it my mission to finally beat Oblivion after not doing so for years, but I do have a lot of problems getting into games with extremely complex systems and clunky controls. Having someone understand and give me alternatives actually gives me some motivation to eventually try out Daggerfall in the future.

@@ComicDubbers It's good! Just personally not for me, I think. If you want something that's very systems driven, go ahead!
Now imagine if TES6 and its fans are like that to Skyrim players... And TES7 afterwards.
@@SA-rb5xq It's hard to make simpler RPG than unmodded Skyrim though

My man you aren’t even a Boomer you’re a certified Neanderthal
During my playthrough the liches and vampires casted spells and were pretty deadly, of course I had a lot more mods installed so maybe that helped, also if you have amazing follower tweaks you can summon your companions in dungeons with u and they will follow throughout the dungeon unless they get stuck, which u can just summon them again
46:29 there’s something unnerving about those three-fingered gloves with the magic animation
I hope someday, once all three are out, someone can patch them together and we can play Skymorrodaggblivionerwindrim just before 6 releases.
I can hear the theme song's vocals now...
I think if you want the quintessential Daggerfall experience you go with Daggerfall Unity. But for people who just want to experience the base story of Daggerfall and get caught up on the ES lore? This is a great mod! Seriously.
Another great video Jwlar! Thanks for getting me into Daggerfall, after watching your reviews I jumped into it and I've been having a blast!
This makes me want an Enderal video from you
But is it sexlab compatible?
I want to see Skyrim remade in Oblivion.
I’d also like to see the opposite tbh.
That makes three of us.
This is a weird fever dream, but not an unpleasant one.
Id love to see a lot of these assests like the enemies and items imported into skyrim
I'm hoping the updated engine for Starfield opens up the possibility of Daggerfall sized maps in future Elder Scrolls games.
I think they could have taken creative liberty to make the land seem not so flat and lifeless
If there's no naked lady on the floor at the bar it's not Daggerfall
😂
You're doing Mauloc's work grooge. Thank you for your service 🙏
Someone should remake Skyrim s main quest in Daggerfall now
I lived in daggerfall for a good 2 months when I first started playing the game, there's so much to do but everything takes so much time and there are time restrictions in place. so stressful, loved it.
To be fair, the original daggerfall map is absolutely giant, so the smaller map is probably a good idea considering the original is 150K+ KM
Funny how much money Bethesda could make making these old games in 4K
This video is so cozy, somehow. I keep playing it in the background when I need something reassuringly familiar.
I still like how original Daggerfall looks and how it performs in unity without visual mods
What id be interested to see is Skyrim de-made in the style of Daggerfall.
I love your long form analysis videos you kill it
Thanks Chase!
I used this mod to RP a mythological being who served the emperor and in doing whatever it takes to bring him the totem, she died but woke up 200 years in the future still having the mindset of serving
"...rather than just taking the .midi files and replacing the instruments with ones of better audio quality"
Major props.
Skakmat (Danish word for checkmate, skak -> chess, mat -> mate) standing on a checkered/chessboard looking floor is a fun detail; I wonder if it was intentional :D
Just like Finn who hunts trolls is a reference to Finntroll, that most surely was intentional
Just commenting for the algorithm, but it was nice seeing so much of a mod I never would've played. Always uncanny seeing part of one game through the lens of another in these things.
I should stream this some time, looks pretty fun.
19:15
Jokes on you, in original Daggerfall you would clip and fall into the void ad nauseum. Working as intended.
🤣 Oh what Todd took away from us!

I played Daggerfall for the first time a few months ago and I actually enjoyed it and how it felt
Also the ability to clear a dungeon only with certain spells and abilities is awesome. imagine ustengraf limits the players progress without whirlwindsprint, fusrodah and etheral form.
I still haven’t used mods and have done 7 play throughs in the last 4 years. I like the older graphics personally
My guy, the comforts of Skyrim just detract from the experience of older games.
these original daggerfalldungeons look awesome. like giant 3d mazes. skyrim should have tried to put some of those in. for labyrinthion or serveral apocrypha.
i dont mind the brain-off and follow the path of living-soon-dead things, but for some important mainquests some challenge would have been nice
When he made a joke about his character not being able to read then talking about "the letter system". I thought Daggerfall had a reading and understanding letters system for your character or something, then the courier from skyrim was mentioned :x
Just went I thought you ran out of daggerfall you got more. Fantastic! And thank you!
This was my first experience with daggerfall. Absolutely love the mod. Glad to watch this vid after that 3 hour daggerfall video.
Sure, but I want as many people to play the older games as I can, and if this is the only way, then so be it.
Eh most people that like Skyrim often also like Oblivion
I never bothered with the main quest when I played Dagger Fall just free roamed but seeing how cool some of those dungeons are making me want to try
wish daggerfall got a proper remake...what i mean by that is a mod that isnt just flat lands ofc... maybe there are modders out there with such ambition
Hell yeah, just when i need to wait for 2 hours and got nothing to do
It's Daggerfall time
I'm disapointed that you didn't install any mods to swap the colours of your health and stamina bar just like Daggerfall.
Great stuff and deserves an in depth video.
hell yeah something to shiny hunt to, great stuff as always mate.
Should have called it Daggerrim
Also i love how the creation engine makes hammerfell look like a flat plane world in minecraft lmao
The intro brings back memories!
Good to see sentinel was done well, its probably my favorite city in the original daggerfall.
Jwlar you should to Skyrim Lore videos or a retrospective! Love your content ❤
I thought I was looking at an airplane when you went outside for the first time at 8:08.
SUNDAY EVENING SORTED!
HA! the elder scrolls community has never been gatekeepy
I honestly can’t go back to older pc games due to how bad the controls feel.
And by “older” I mean anything before mouse looking was a standard. I’m too used to looking around with a mouse, not the damn arrow keys!
daggerfall has mouselook right, you might have to enable it in the options but i swear it has it even before unity was a thing
This is a great video! I enjoyed watching it so much!
