Funny trivia: At the Dumb and Dumber Hollywood premier, Jeff Daniels ran into Clint Eastwood who told him that the bathroom scene from the movie actually happened to him. Daniel's recounted that Clint was going on a date, he really wanted to impress his date, he'd eaten the wrong thing at lunch and when he got to her house...he needed to get to the bathroom IMMEDIATELY!!

11:00 Jen mentioned that a lot of this movie was improvised - Harland Williams, the comedian who plays this Highway Patrolman, has talked about how he was picked to be part of this movie (he initially auditioned for Jeff Daniels' role,) because the right people loved this dolphin bit that he did as part of his stand-up set. While shooting this scene, he was asked to incorporate that dolphin impression somehow on the spot and this is what he came up with.
He talked about how amazing it felt being able to make both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels break character and burst out laughing at his improv because both of them were already legends at the time and he was essentially nobody yet.
There's an awesome podcast clip titled _Harland's Relationship With JIM CARREY & "Dumb and Dumber"_ that goes into a lot of detail about his experience, which is pretty fascinating. It's a 15-minute chunk of conversation about a scene that's maybe a minute long, but it's interesting the entire way through.

Jeff Daniels did this movie for a measly salary of *_$50,000_* while Jim Carrey made *$7,000,000.* The studio wanted another big name comedian to play opposite Carrey, and the lowball offer was meant to dissuade Daniels, who wanted to break from type and do some comedy. Daniels' manager thought it would be career suicide, so he didn't try to negotiate and discouraged his client from taking the job. Daniels took the job anyway, and the studio was STILL so down on him that they did his first several scenes without Carrey so they could re-cast him without any reshoots. He was basically auditioning for a job he already had! Carrey was super supportive of his co-star, though, and encouraged the studio to stick with him. After the first couple of scenes that Daniels did, Carrey assured him that he killed it. Upon review, the studio realized Daniels actually had the chops for the movie and the chemistry with Carrey to make it work. And the rest is history.
The two have had lifelong respect for each other ever since.
Edit: Oh, yeah, and at the same time, Carrey was on his meteoric rise during filming of this movie. He initially asked for 2M and the studio refused. Then Ace Ventura came out, and they went back into negotiations, with Carrey taking 7M instead of the 2 he originally asked for. His take was nearly half of the movie's entire budget, at $16M. Made sense that they wanted Jeff Daniels on the cheap, but they weren't going to get another A-list comedian for $50k, either.
Crazy how the world turns out sometimes, innit?

There is alot of different reasons. sometimes different countries have different parental advisory rules wich make the versions of movie change a bit. Other times it is due to different rules in cinema and tv that decided wich versions ended up where. and other times movies was released in one continent and after thet some changes were made before released in other continents.

The music sold it. Like Holden mentions, if the music were different they would be legitimate villains. Hilarious movie but definitely couldn't be released today with much success

This is so refreshing to me..... turn the table around is fantastic. Lets hope he is a bit more open and not so stubborn as you was. Chill is the key I think.... respect.

Back around the time when the Farrelly brothers made good, hilarious films. This, Kingpin, and There's Something About Mary is a great trifecta.

This has always been one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. My all time favorite movie of his is The Mask followed very closely by Ace Ventura(the first film). Then this and Liar Liar. I’m glad these comedy movies don’t get old. Just goes to show how much better the writers were then compared to now.

Trivia Fact is that Jim had his capped tooth removed for this movie, and then after filming, he had it re-capped.

The Seabass check was a nod to Jeff Daniels in Something Wild. He nailed Ray Liotta with the same trick. Fun movie, worth a watch.

Jeff Daniels is the ultimate chameleon, movies like dumb & dumber, speed and arachnophobia.
