  • How to swap 52" leaf spring in the front of any square body Chevrolet/GMC truck. I took the leaf springs out of a 1985 Chevy K10 Scottsdale and removed the overload spring. I pulled all the leafs apart and cleaned them all up and gave them a coat of paint. I then installed some new bushings and slapped it all back together!

    I think this is the best way to do a 52" spring swap, everybody else moves the axle forward and I hate that. Nice job, can't wait to see more!

      If the truck is being used off-road most would prefer the axle being moved forward.

    I've been wanting to see someone do the 52" front springs without extending the wheelbase, I heard you have to get alot longer shocks and crossover steering I will definitely be following this build

    The shackles weren't the problem, you can clearly see the top bushing was shot . if you had just pulled them down they would have bolted up.

      Ur a fucking idiot 52" rear leaf springs are different than front leaf springs so he obviously needed longer shackles

    Awesome video man, gonna be doin a Sas 2wd to 4wd conversion here soon on a 90 Chevy 1500, wish I knew how to weld probably be a hell of a lot easier lol

    Have you tried putting a front bumper and brackets back on to see how the wandering lessens

  • @derekstewart8175

    Hyd jack your ratchet on tight bolts. Unless there are rusted so bad they are welded

    Thought you built new extended front shackles?

    how much lift did this actually get you, full vehicle weight; resting?
    judging by that steering linkage.... a lot. like 4" maybe
    i ask because:
    i think this mod is only for people who really want to offroad and flex that front end. and to do so, you need to get rid of the sway bar and switch to a totally different steering set up... like a Y-link high steer style.

      Mr Derp I think it gave me about 4” but with my raised steering arm I have horrible bump steer. So you pretty much need a crossover steering setup for it to work decent

      And my reason for doing the swap is for flex, if I wanted it higher I would have just bought a lift kit

    Would you say that the tire is centered in the wheel well after doing it the way you did it?

    • @BENK482
      @BENK482  5 років тому

      Theodore White The way that I saw other people doing the spring swap, the wheel wasn’t centered very well, but with the way I did it, it’s very close to stock. It doesn’t seem to have moved much at all.

      Ben Kraus thanks for getting back to me, with the way you did it did you hammer the core support mount flat?

    hey man good video!
    I was curious as to what all you needed to do to mount the spring hanger under the body mount? just hammer it flat and bolt it up? I'm looking to copy that method and wanted to be prepared to knock it out.

    • @BENK482
      @BENK482  6 років тому

      Patrick Casey That’s pretty much all I did, otherwise you can buy new mounts that are designed for the spring swap, they have multiple holes and still keep the hole for the body mount
