Tyler, thanks for choosing Archive and making this great video! Your video inspired me to make our own hanger support angle brackets, and they'll be much cheaper than Jim charges, and an option with the box hanger. The misalignment to Jungle Jim's brackets you mentioned at 18:25 was on me, I had the holes off a smidge, but that's been improved, I noticed as we measured the factory support brackets to design ours, (boy those are bad design, no wonder they crack). Only 3 rivets per side is NOT enough given the torque they see. Our 1 piece Box hanger resists the rotational torque that occurs with 2 separate hangers.
That's great to hear! Yeah Jim's was the only one I could find for those upper brackets and was a bit shocked at the price but is what it is. No big deal on the hole misalignment either it was easy to grind with the burr tool to make them line up too. Been very happy with the way the truck drives now after the swap! Definitely worth the work of getting all those rivets out....next part you need to produce is a beefier 4wd steering box adapter plate! Cheers.
I have the Archive garage shackle hanger set on the old first gen with new leaf springs and new U bolts. I love the Archive garage products. I do plan on running a 4inch lift with chevy Alcan springs that have a softer ride and the front box hanger from archive garage. Then ill get the other Archive products for the rear as well. for now though im swapping in a 47rh and building the internals because the 46rh blew up on me because i got too much powa baby
Yeah archive makes some awesome products. I think I want to get longer springs now that I have the option at some point in the future. It'll make forna much softer ride.
Thanks for all the info on the spring hangers, when I remove rivets I drill them just under size then use the air hammer some of the rivets are a pain to get out again thank you David
K member looks pretty good. Better pull that steering box and check the frame for cracks around the mounting holes as much as it's still moving it's likely cracked in more than one spot a little welding and a repair kit will get that thing back on there solid.
Had the steering box off a couple months ago for rebuild. Frame, mounting plate, and all holes checked and solid. No cracks. Putting the steering brace on this weekend hopefully. It's surprising how easy the frame moves even when everything is solid. They were never perfect even from the factory.
My truck has the same movement just not as much, this looks like a good fix. I noticed the movement after replacing my steering box with a Red Head box.
Yep this hanger really tightened up my steering. The next spot I found play was in the actual 4wd mounting plate for the steering box. I might get the one from autofab to remove any flex the stock one has
We use top quality Energy Suspension bushings, they hold up, but I also like steel encased rubber bushings like you mention for durability and zero maintanence. We don't use Daystar poly bushings, they tear and degrade too fast.
Treat yourself to a good air compressor it makes a world of difference. I happened apon a 2hp for free with some holes and its made my life easier but now that the weather is turning looks like its back to stock piling parts and tools for warmer weather soon.
When I move and get my shop I'll be treating myself to many nice tools, including a good shop compressor ;) I'm just making due with the space I have currently. There's a reason why I'm working on my truck on pine needles under a tree! Haha.
@@OvensGarage right now it's all budget for me trying to find the money for parts as that seems to be my limiting factor as well as it's my only vehicle. If you don't have a welder get one I didn't realize how badly I needed one but it's already paid itself back 3 or 4 fold within a month and it was only 150
Great video, we are going to using the exact kit to do our 4wd conversion on our D250. The one thing I did notice on your truck was the clunking is coming from your steering box which appears to have a lot of play in it. Will you be doing a video on the rear leaf hanger from Archive?
I just had the steering box off a couple months ago to rebuild it. I see and hear the clunking you are talking about. It's the vertical play in the sector shaft. A lot of them do that, the slack may be able to be taken up in the steering box adjustment. I picked up my rear shackle kit from hogback fab I'm planning on installing them on my truck today actually.
@@OvensGarage I thought you had the Archive rear shackle mounts? We just watched your 1st gen meet video and definitely look forward to coming out next year with ours.
Does that mean i should quit usingmine for hooking my chains when pulling stuff around. One thing that did give out though was my steering box pulling 2 of the three bolts thru the frame. Scary when you turn your wheel for a corner and your truck keeps going straight. Hard to fix too.
How were you able to drill out the top two holes for the hanger brackets? I've had nothing but trouble trying to get my drill to fit just to drill the holes
My truck is a Texas truck and the side angle brackets are fine, think I’ll be fine with keeping them? I want to keep them and save a few bucks but need a second opinion
Let me know if you find a source for new end links, they are discontinued from Ma Mopar and aftermarket I can only find new bushing kits. Not the whole link.
I've got a few part numbers for end links that look like they might work (different vehicle applications), I'm going to order 1 or 2 and see if they will work. Will make a vid on it if I find something that works.
It’s great to have some company’s and products available to keep our old rigs running. Thanks for the video and reference for parts suppliers!
Yeah I've been following archive garage for years he's always been a first gen guy. He makes some awesome products!

Archive makes a great product . I’ve been running mine for the last 5k miles. It’s an overbuilt product for sure.
It's so beefy. I love it!

The sector gear is jumping up and down also.

Will be interesting to see how those poly spring bushings hold up. I have not had good luck getting them to last a hundred thousand miles.
We will see! I'm sure they will be easier to remove than those factory bushings though lol

We don't use Daystar poly bushings, they tear and degrade too fast.
You need to look at your sector/rocker shaft (on your video) for your steering box, it is moving around indicating a needed rebuild.
Great work
Thanks!

If they aren't moving at all then it'll probably be fine. I'd add another bolt in the open hole though to strengthen it up a bit if you can.

Could you put links in comment's so can find.....having trouble finding jungle jim
I added the link to the page he sells his parts on ramcharger central in the description box. Hope that helps!
Did you delete my comment, or did FFS have youtube remove it?
What comment?
@@OvensGarage I just sent you an email regarding it.
