In this video we'll take a detailed look at an Elgin pocket watch. Based on the serial number on the movement, we came up with an approximate production year of 1913. It's older than you and still ticking!
The grade 293 movement has 7 jewels and is signed Elgin Nat'l Watch Co. U.S.A.
A bonafide made in USA timepiece unlike many of the watches today that claim to be of American origin (see: • Identity Crisis: Watch... ).
The Elgin has a sterling silver caseback is signed “Philadelphia Watch Case Co”.
A lot happened in and since 1913 and this beautiful timepiece was there through it all.

Gorgeous timepiece! This makes me want to get a pocket watch. Not to carry around but just to have as a respect to the history of my hobby. Thank you for showing this one in such hypnotizing detail.
Glad you like it! Every collector should have at least one pocket watch in their watch box. But it doesn't have to be so well protected. They are fun to carry in the pocket and many of our clients do just that. Antique pocket watches like this Elgin are incredible (time)pieces of history, but also make for great fidget objects and are calming to listen to the ticking sounds while working or sleeping. I have my grandfathers Elgin pocket watch, which was made in 1910. He worked for the CTA(Chicago Transit Authority). The case is etched with a picture of a train car, but is very worn down. It does work but, it’s missing the hour hand. I’m still not sure if I want it restored or just get it mechanically solid and keep it just as it has been since 1910.

Would like to see it polished up
Many of our customers prefer vintage pocket watches to be untouched and unpolished. Some collectors like to see the patina from over the years. But it is interesting to see both patina and polished, so for that reason we leave it up to the discretion of the new owner :)

If you ever do a video (10-20 mins) of you(the channel) mounting or dismounting a watch with the close ups sounds from metal and the "clicks" it you be formidable and if well done would also become one of my favorite !
